Danny R. Reynolds - November 01, 1938 - October 30, 2023

Departed: 10/30/2023 (Mt. Zion)
Obituary Preview: Danny Ray Reynolds was called home to his Lord on Monday, October 30, 2023. He was 84 years old.
He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Anyone who knew Danny has at least one "Danny" story. His presence here on Earth was immense for all who loved him, and his absence will leave a tremendous hole in their hearts and lives.
Danny was born in St. Elmo, Il on November 1, 1938 to Jesse and Beulah Reynolds. He had four sisters and four brothers. They were a rowdy bunch, and regaled their families with colorful stories from their childhood.
Danny moved to Decatur, Il in junior high, and joined the Air Force after high school, serving at Travis Air Force base in San Diego, California before returning home. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Potts, on November 12, 1961.
He started his life-long career in the insurance industry with Mutual of Omaha in 1961, and remained a general agent with them for over 3 decades. In 1972, Danny started an independent insurance agency, Dansig, with his mentor, Sig Stottrup. Ever an entrepreneur, he started another company, Consociate, a third-party administrator and PPO network for employee benefits, in 1995. He came from humble beginnings, and worked hard to make something of himself for his family. Although he retired in 2017 to take care of Carolyn, he was never far from the office or the conference room.
Danny had an endearing sense of humor and always had a big, handsome, grin for any who crossed his path. Full of stories (which may or may not have been true), he gifted his family with laughs and witty one-liners until his last days. Danny was generous. He gave back to the community - supporting his church, the LSA (Lutheran School Association), and many other causes he cared about. His biggest cause, however, was his wife, Carolyn, and his example of extraordinary love and care during her failing years - unwavering through all that was hard and heart-breaking - will be one of his greatest gifts and an enduring legacy to his family.
Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, four sisters, and three brothers. He is survived by his younger brother, Ron Reynolds (Lynn) of Decatur; sister-in-law, Marissa Reynolds of Farmer City, IL; children: Dan Reynolds Jr. (Shelly) of Decatur, David Reynolds (Irene) of Rockvale, TN, Darren Reynolds (Tiffany) of Decatur, Dana El Gammal (Tarek) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren: Daniel, Christian, Samuel C., Matthew, Mason, Paige, Noah, Jacob, Samuel D., Sydney, Seth, Isaac, Olive, Josiah; and great-grandchild: Casson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at #1 Bachrach Court, Decatur, IL 62526 from 5 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday morning from 11:00 am until service time.
We will celebrate Danny's life with a service on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Decatur, IL with military honors by the Macon County Honor Guard.
