Departed: 01/29/2022 (Divide)
Obituary Preview: Vicki Lynn Smith was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. We lost this beautiful soul too soon on January 29, 2022, at age 66.
She was born to Dale and Carol LeFevre on April 7, 1955 in Los Angeles, California. She grew up with 4 siblings: Todd, Michael, Tami Jo and Connie. She graduated from Batavia High School in Batavia, Illinois. As a young woman she loved to ride horseback.

Vicki was a caretaker for her granddaughter, Addy, to whom she passed on her adventurous spirit and zest for life.

Riley "Dozer" Cox - March 29, 1947 - January 27, 2022

Departed: 01/27/2022 (Divide)
Obituary Preview: Riley Stanford “Dozer” Cox, cherished husband of Linda Cox, passed away on January 27, 2022 at his home in Bailey, Colorado after a long illness. His loss cannot be measured in words, but the impact of his life will continue to be felt in the hearts of all those who were blessed enough to know him. He would disagree, of course; he always said he was “just doing his job.” Riley hated the limelight, and much preferred to raise others up, content to be in the background quietly doing so much more than most.
He was born to Walter and Emmaline (Rooks) Cox in Globe, Arizona on March 29, 1947, one of five children. Riley served with distinction in Vietnam as a member of F/58th Infantry, Long Range Patrol and as one of the earliest Army Rangers. He was grievously wounded in combat in 1968 while attempting to help keep his team alive during a horrific ambush. Even in his wounded state, he succeeded in holding the entire side of a hill on his own until his teammates could be evacuated. He refused to leave the battlefield until others were rescued.
He spent the next 10 months in the hospital recovering, after which he insisted upon returning to duty with the 75th Rangers and serving another tour in combat, even though the Army tried to medically discharge him. Decades later, he still didn’t want accolades, certain that he had not done enough.
By the time his service in the Army was finished, he had earned the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars with Valor device, two Purple Hearts, two Vietnam service ribbons, and most importantly, the Combat Infantryman Badge and his jump wings.
After his service, together with the love of his life, Linda, he found a new way to serve his country and the veterans he loved so much. He became a mentor and even second father to two more generations of Army Rangers and their families, supporting them through their own trials by combat and helping them navigate the VA system after their service. His contribution to the veteran community as an advocate and friend may never be matched.
Anyone who met Riley, even once, found themselves changed in a profound way. His quiet demeanor belied an incredible, even mischievous sense of humor coupled with an iron set of principles. Riley didn’t believe in backing down or giving up. His refusal to accept failure underlined everything he did both in and out of combat, and things that would have broken lesser men rolled off Riley’s giant shoulders as if they were merely inconveniences. His immense physical stature was made all the more so by his giant personality, yet Riley’s nature was kind and gentle, forged in the personal, up-close knowledge that life is a fleeting whisper, all too often gone in an instant.
Because of that terrible knowledge, he loved just as fiercely as he fought, and was a beloved stepfather to Caroline Mishleau, Lisa (Jon) Patzer, and Niki (Aaron) Lenox. Later in life he was the proud grandfather of Cody Mishleau, Atalia (Aaron) Hatt, and Annaka Lenox, and even had a great-granddaughter, Huntleigh Hatt. He is survived by all of these beloved family members, as well as his siblings Jeannie, Ruth, Jack, and David.
Riley was a life member of the 75th RRA, the 101st LRRP-Ranger Association, and the LRRA. He was a quiet warrior, and one of the very best men this world ever offered…but if he were reading this, he would make me rewrite it all and leave out everything but his family and his fellow veterans.
There will be a celebration of life later in the spring.

Alice Michelle Reynolds - July 17, 1959 - January 09, 2022

Departed: 01/09/2022 (Divide)
Obituary Preview: Michelle was born in San Antonio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe S. Trevino and Mary Alice Guerra, and her brother Mark T. Trevino. She is survived by her loving husband Martin L. Reynolds of 18 years, stepfather Andrew Guerra and her two younger brothers, Jeff Trevino (Kerry Whitehead) and Joseph Trevino (Julie). Michelle dearly loved her nieces Marcie Trevino Ripper (Phillip) and Ashley Marie Murillo (David), nephews Jacob (Laurel) and John Trevino, grand nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and extended family.
When she was a young girl, Michelle’s mother instilled in her and her three younger brothers a serious work ethic. Because her mother Alice worked two, and sometimes three jobs to provide for her children, Michelle was often left with the task of taking care of, and in some cases raising, her brothers. At the age of 15, Michelle landed her first job in a local grocery store checking and bagging groceries. These responsibilities gave Michelle an appreciation for the value of hard work. True to her familial roots (maternal Muniga and paternal Trevino), she developed a strong work ethic which became a dominant part of her character lasting throughout her entire life.
While in Middle School, Michelle mastered the art of baton twirling and kept her brothers mesmerized with her majorette twirls, twists, high-flying kicks, and baton throws. Michelle was also a talented roller-skater; she could be found at Skateland many Friday and Saturday nights. Like many girls her age, Michelle also had a crush on Donny Osmond (whom she would meet later in life). This early appreciation for dance and music flourished in Michelle throughout her life. Music and art were her great passions, cultural treasures Martin and she bonded over throughout their marriage.
Upon graduating from high school, Michelle’s passion for music grew. She became good friends with the girlfriend of rock superstar Eddie Money. She saw the rock and roll business first-hand from the back stages of arenas and even attended a birthday party for Mick Jagger. Her concert ticket keepsake booklet is the envy of any baby boomer Rock and Roll fan.
Michelle’s keen insight into the art world coupled with her developing flare for design made her the perfect candidate to take on the role of partner and marketing manager of the family-owned GTO Advertising, Inc., an award-winning advertising agency in San Antonio. Michelle never needed to try too hard in high school or college to excel in her classes. Her knack for numbers allowed her to manage all the bookkeeping and financials for the advertising agency, while also mastering the duties of Marketing Manager. Michelle taught herself these skills on her own. She delivered unparalleled professional marketing services throughout her entire career. It was during her tenure at GTO that Michelle became the steadfast perfectionist that many of us knew and loved.
In 2001, after working at GTO for twelve years, Michelle met her future husband, Martin. Michelle took a leap of faith and moved to Colorado where Martin was stationed as a member of the Air Force. This was a pivotal moment in Michelle’s life. At age 41, after living in San Antonio for her entire life, Michelle moved away from her comfort zone to grow and create a life for herself and with Martin. What she surely knew at the time (but kept to herself), was that Michelle was on a mission, not only to enrich her own life, but to also make Martin the happiest man on earth.
Upon arriving in Colorado Michelle continued to accomplish the accounting duties for GTO. She also applied for and was awarded the position of Marketing Manager for the Brady Group in Colorado, a professional Dental Management and consulting firm. Michelle created websites and hosted numerous seminars for the Brady Group. She travelled with the consulting team to major cities such as Las Vegas, Nevada where she finally met her childhood sweetheart, Donny Osmond after a show. Donny and Marie were both personal friends of Dr. Brady. Donny danced on Michelle’s table and was just as dreamy at age 50 as he was at age 25.
Michelle and Martin purchased their first house in Colorado and were married in November 2003. They continued to support each other and built a beautiful life for themselves in Colorado Springs. They travelled and learned to cook together, and Michelle showed Martin a better lifestyle than he ever imagined. Michelle had exquisite taste and together they travelled across Europe and visited amazing places in France, Spain and Italy.
In April 2016, Michelle landed her dream job working as a marketing and advertising manager for the PhysioFit Physical Therapy and Wellness company in Los Altos California. After completing several interviews for the position, the company owner was so impressed with Michelle, she hired her in a telework capacity. Michelle was the only PhysioFit employee allowed to work remotely across state lines. Over the next 5+ years Michelle transformed Physio Fits reception area appearance, operations, fitness center branding, employee to client marketing practices, created new websites and became the company owner’s confidant. She did more to increase the growth and expansion of PhysioFit than any other employee. The company owner referred to Michelle as “like a sister to her”.
Michelle and Martin continued to nurture their relationship during this timeframe also. They purchased a beautiful mountain home in Woodland Park, Colorado and re-decorated the inside and outside of the home per Michelle’s keen decorating sensibilities. They designed new landscaping and planted twenty trees around the back of the property. This house was the grand vision of Michelle, and the pride of both Martin and Michelle.
Michelle and Martin adopted a Yorkie-Apso puppy and a total of four cats throughout their marriage. Unable to have children of their own, Michelle and Martin were determined to provide the best life possible for their adopted fur-babies.
Michelle was a natural. She was a natural lady, a natural learner, had a natural eye for art and decorating. She had a natural sense of marketing concepts and proved this over and over throughout her life. Michelle had the kindest, most natural smile you can imagine, and she loved to laugh. She lit up every room she walked into. Former president Bill Clinton walked up to her directly and introduced himself the first time he saw her. She had an infectious likeability that could not be denied.
Michelle gathered numerous friends from around the world during her marketing career, through her personal life and finally through her battle with cancer. She had four thousand eight hundred friends and followers on Facebook. She bonded with women through the Women’s March movement. She led other women in her battle with Ovarian Cancer and she was a true inspiration to so many suffering from this terrible disease and other forms of cancer. Even as Michelle’s suffering increased from the disease, she continued to post inspirational prayers and messages to all her Facebook followers daily, until the day she passed away.
There is a void in this world that cannot be filled. We have memories, but memories will never take the place of Michelle’s infectious smile, laughter, and love. Her spirit, laughter and love will remain within all of us who are fortunate enough to call her family or friend. After fighting against ovarian cancer harder than any other, she is now at peace.
A memorial service for Michelle will be held in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, January 29th at 11:00am at Cornerstone Church (the Vada Hagee Prayer Chapel).

William N. Harrison - October 18, 1963 - January 03, 2022

Departed: 01/03/2022 (Divide)
Obituary Preview: William Niven Harrison was born in Bartlesville, OK to parents Roland Henry Harrison and Mary Margaret Fewell on 18 October 1963.  He was the youngest of their seven children.  William grew up in Bartlesville, attending school at St John's Catholic School, Central Jr High and College High School.  Just prior to graduating high school in May 1981, he met the love of his life, Lisa Jean Mosher.
William and Lisa attended Oklahoma State University together.  They were married in Bartlesville on 30 December 1983.  He professed his love by singing 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart' to her as part of the ceremony.  William completed the Bachelor of Music Education degree in December 1985.
William and Lisa made their first home in Ponca City, OK.  While living there for eighteen years the Lord blessed them with six amazing sons.  William's career allowed him to raise the boys at home, teaching them all the basics before they entered public school.
William spent the rest of his life sharing his love for music and teaching people of all ages.  He served as Director of Music Ministries at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ponca City.  He led a Sunday morning adult choir for worship services, an adult handbell choir, youth singing and handbell choirs, and children's singing and hand chime choirs.  He served as youth leader at Harmony Baptist Church in Ponca City briefly before moving to Bartlesville in 2002.  William served in various roles at Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Bartlesville, including interim Music Director, Youth Leader, and Deacon.
Once his sons were all in school, William began his elementary music teaching career.  He started at Roosevelt Elementary in Ponca City where his sons attended school.  William then taught one year at Owasso schools before moving to his final teaching role at Ranch Heights Elementary in Bartlesville.  "Mr. Harrison" was loved by all his students.  He had an uncanny ability to know all several hundred student names within the first couple weeks.  William couldn't go anywhere in town without at least one current or past student calling out 'Mr. Harrison, Mr. Harrison'.
Scouting was another of William's passions.  As a youth he was able to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, become a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and complete an outdoor trek at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in NM.  As William's sons became involved in scouting, William served as Den leader, Cub Scout Master, and Scout Master. William went on hundreds of campouts with his boys and Scout Summer camp every year.   He assisted all six sons in achieving the Eagle Scout rank and was able to join them on Philmont treks.
William was also a Loyal and True Oklahoma State fan.  While he might not have actually bled orange it would be a rare occasion that he wasn't wearing an OSU something.  He was even known to have taught his boys that the color orange isn't simply orange - it's "Orange Power" of course.
William is survived by his spouse Lisa; his son Brian and his family Shannon and Elizabeth of Stillwater, OK; his son Andrew and wife Rosemary of Houston, TX; his son David of Dallas, TX; his son Jonathan and wife Amanda and sons Clark and Cooper of Stillwater, OK; and his son Kevin of Tulsa, OK.  He is also survived by his parents Roland and Marge Harrison of Bartlesville, OK and his six siblings and their extended families - Margaret and Pete Duggan, Cecelia and Tom Cameron, Roland and Stephanie Harrison, Tom and Barbi Harrison, Elizabeth and Tim Saine, and Robert and Heather Harrison.  William was preceded in death by his son Sean and grandchildren Hope and Oliver.

Anna Lee McGee - January 10, 1931 - January 01, 2022

Departed: 01/01/2022 (Divide)
Obituary Preview: Anna Lee (Harden) McGee
Some losses are expected, but yet we’re still unprepared. Anna Lee was able to ignite an energy inside others that sparked anywhere from competitiveness to pure comfort; she believed you could do anything. She believed it, so it had to be true. That is just the way it was. She left an impression on you — that is undeniable — a force that demanded your attention.
She started life in Sioux City, Iowa then moved with her family to Omaha, Nebraska.  In Omaha, she met Jim McGee her high school sweetheart; who gave her the nickname Candy.  When Jim enlisted, Anna Lee ventured out to Portland, Maine where they were married on July 27th, 1951.
After Jim’s military service, they took up brief roots in Colorado; then back to Nebraska, where they would find themselves with six kids and running 16th Street Auto Parts in Blair, Nebraska.
After becoming empty nesters, they once again found their roots in Colorado calling. This time to Woodland Park, Colorado.  In Woodland, Anna Lee opened a yarn store where she enjoyed nurturing other's passions for crafting. After the yarn store, she kept busy as a City Councilor, cross-country skiing; and the many walks around town with Jim.
Her biggest joy and greatest treasure, was of course, the grandkids; Nicki, Dani, Kelly, Leslie, Hannah and Alex.  After that came the even greater love with great grandkids – life was complete.
Next Jim and Anna Lee moved to Fort Collins, then on to Loveland and finally Colorado Springs.
Anna Lee did not believe in flowers for funerals, so in lieu of flowers, please do something for yourself. Have some candy — everyone loves Candy.
Funeral services will be held January 12th at 10AM at Sacred Heart in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information for those who want to pay their respects. They help to notify others of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and provide a sense of closure for loved ones.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations in lieu of flowers, and other relevant information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise, between 100-200 words. However, some online platforms may allow for longer tributes or stories.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and type of notice. Some newspapers may charge by the word or line, while others may offer package deals or free listings. Online platforms may offer free or low-cost options as well.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told in your own words. You can store it with your important documents or share it with your loved ones.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Yes, there are many online platforms that allow you to publish an obituary, including funeral home websites, online obituary databases, and social media sites. These options often offer greater flexibility and reach than traditional print publications.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

You can usually submit an obituary to a newspaper through their website, email, or by contacting their obituary department directly. Be sure to follow their guidelines and deadlines for submission.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult or impossible to make changes to an obituary once it's been published in print. However, online platforms may allow for corrections or updates.

What if I need to make corrections to an obituary?

If you need to make corrections to an obituary, contact the publication or platform where it was published as soon as possible. They may be able to make changes or issue a correction notice.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The time it takes for an obituary to be published varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online platforms may publish immediately, while print publications may take several days or weeks.

Can I request a copy of an old obituary?

You can try contacting the newspaper or publication where the obituary was originally published to request a copy. Many libraries and genealogical societies also maintain archives of old newspapers and obituaries.

Are obituaries public records?

In most cases, yes. Obituaries are considered public records and can be accessed by anyone. However, some online platforms may offer private or restricted access to certain notices.

Can I use an obituary as a eulogy?
