Mary Josephine Voglesong - March 19, 1934 - May 14, 2024

Departed: 05/14/2024 (Mount Laurel)
Obituary Preview: Mary Voglesong (nee Kelly), 90, of Mount Laurel, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, following a long illness.
She was born on March 19, 1934, to the late Henry and Mary (“Molly”) Kelly, and raised in Glenside, Pa. Her parents were both Irish immigrants, and met at a dance in the Philadelphia area. Mary was the oldest of five children, which included Margaret (“Peggy”), John, Henry and James (“Jimmy”). Peggy, who Mary considered her best friend, died at age 81 in 2016. The first movie Mary ever saw was “The Wizard of Oz” in 1939, when she was 5. She recalled being frightened by the green-faced witch played by Margaret Hamilton in the film. It was the beginning of Mary's lifelong love affair with the movies. She attended Saturday afternoon “kiddie” matinees in Glenside, and once worked as an usher at the Keswick Theater there. She remembered that her boss always called her “Kelly girl.”
In 1954, when Mary was 20, her mother died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the tragically young age of 48. Mary took over the finances of the household, which came in handy when she became a newlywed. In 1956, she married Charles J. Voglesong, a Marine who saw action at Iwo Jima during World War II. The couple set up house in Cherry Hill, and had three children: Mark, 65, of Monmouth County; Barbara, 64, of Mount Laurel; and Brian, 63, of Medford. Charles died at age 82 in 1999. Their extended family included Charles' son from a previous marriage, Charles ("Bud”) Voglesong Jr., who died at age 74 in 2013; his wife Patricia; their children Eric, Leah and John Charles, and their respective families.
When Mary's children were in high school, she worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator at the Cherry Hill Inn, where she sometimes interacted with celebrity guests such as Muhammad Ali, Duke Ellington and Frankie Avalon. She later worked as a researcher for radio industry guru Kal Rudman's music publication, Friday Morning Quarterback. Mary loved nothing more than to be surrounded by family, and Christmas was her favorite time of year. In a nod to her Irish heritage, green was her favorite color. A sign in her kitchen says: “When Irish eyes are smiling ... they're usually up to something.”
Mary had what you would call an Irish sense of humor. When her children were pre-schoolers, she told them that a ghost named Simon lived in their house. Every once in a while, she would instruct them to wait by a heating grate at the stairs to speak with Simon. She then hurried downstairs and spoke as Simon (in a reedy, quavering voice) from the furnace room. Mary also told her youngest, Brian, that his real name was “Jamie McPherson,” and he belonged to another family. Brian has often recalled with humor that he believed her at the time. Mary was once interviewed by her niece, Lauren Kelly, for a book of Kelly family history published in 2010. “I think that we were raised with common sense and love,” Mary said of her upbringing. “That always struck me later. What I'm proud of in my own life is that I love and care for (her childhood) family and my own family. I had a great husband. I'm not unusual or brilliant or anything, but I had a good life.” Mary is survived by three of her siblings; her children; her daughter-in-law Smara Voglesong; and her four grandchildren: Michaela Shelton, 37, of Taylorsville, Utah; Ian Voglesong, 36, of Brooklyn; Alexandra Vogelsong, 35, of Pittsburgh; and Margaret Rose Munro, 34, of Davenport, Fla. "I'm very, very happy and proud of each and every one of them," Mary said of her grandchildren in Lauren Kelly's book. "They have that Kelly work ethic of your grandfather. They are accomplished, educated and kind. I just like what I see."
Relatives and friends are welcome to a visitation on Thursday, May 16th, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054. As well as her funeral service on Friday, May 17th, at 10:30 AM, at First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, 101 Bridgeboro Rd, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Interment will follow services at Colestown Cemetery in Cherry Hill.

Noreen Ann Cunningham - October 15, 1965 - May 10, 2024

Departed: 05/10/2024 (Mount Laurel)
Obituary Preview: Noreen A. Cunningham, age 58, of Mount Laurel, NJ passed away on May 10, 2024.
The sixth of Pat and Peggy’s seven children, Noreen grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ.  It was an ideal childhood with dance classes, rec sports (although sports were never her thing), art classes, swim club, playing with her doll house (that her father made), Brownies and Girl Scouts (all with her BFF Chrissie).  There were lots of projects like refinishing & restoring furniture with her beloved dad (who always made “Doll” his little helper).  There were lots of family vacations—with Noreen and Chris in the “way back” of the station wagon with their dog Sam.  Later, she had trips to the Jersey shore with Chrissie and Tree in high school and college.
It was during college in Georgia when Noreen worked at an Atlanta record store—she loved all the free records and tickets to concerts that she got to see with Linda, Melony, and her brother Chris.  She loved seeing all those 80’s and 90’s bands.
After going to college and living in the South, Noreen moved back to NJ.  She worked in the book industry for years and it allowed her to travel to libraries all over the US before she changed careers and became a high school English teacher.  For 20 years, she loved teaching literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.  She was lucky to have such an interesting & rewarding career with nice students and wonderful teacher colleagues--including Skye and Susan who became like family.
Noreen enjoyed exploring other countries and their historic sites, culture, architecture, and food.  She especially loved visiting foreign museums with friends and then discussing the art that they saw.  She traveled all over the world from the Cliffs of Moher to the Great Wall of China, but her favorite places were Ireland and Spain.  An avid reader—she always said her favorite day of every month was her book club brunch when she and her friends met at wonderful restaurants to eat, drink, and discuss literature.
She loved movies; music by the Smiths, Nina Simone, and Van Morrison; fashion (especially all those trips to L& T with her mom); PBS miniseries; completing jigsaw puzzles with Mel; books by Ian McEwan and David McCullough; Irish literature; playing Boggle with her sisters; reading on the beach; swimming in the ocean; riding her bike; sewing; wine tastings; Frank Gehry buildings; cooking & hosting dinner parties; French food & Julia Child; her public library; RBG & Feminist causes; art museums; Rittenhouse Art Fairs; NPR; hunting for buried treasures at antique stores with Bill; thrift stores; hosting patio happy hours; being an aunt (which she loved more than anything); kayaking with Matt and Chris; and watching World Cup soccer with her nephew Michael.
She had a very full and happy life—blessed with family and friends who loved her dearly. She is survived by her sisters (Margaret Cunningham, Mary Boyce); brothers (Chris, Pat, Gene, Mike); nephews (Michael, Matt, Chris, Patrick, Ryan, Jack); and nieces (Catherine, Erin).   She was thrilled about the recent addition of baby Will to the family.  In addition to a large family that adored her, Noreen was treasured by her many wonderful and lifelong friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Noreen’s visitation on Sunday, May 19th, 2024 from 12PM – 1:30PM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. Family and friends time of sharing will follow at 1:30PM.

George is survived by the love of his life, Vikki (Goffredo) Sanders.  They were so content just being together and sharing their lives with family and friends.  He loved doting on Vikki and their dogs who brought such joy and laughter to them and were their “kids”.
George was born in Oxen Hill, Maryland, to the late Bridget J. Zelasko Sanders and George R. Sanders.  He is also predeceased in death by his sister Rebecca (Becky) Lynn Sanders.
He is survived by his sister Bridgett (Sanders) Riley (Bill) and known affectionally as “Uncle” to Niece Kaitlin G. Hoopes (Alex), Nephew Justin W. Riley (Ashley) and great Niece Hazel Riley Hoopes.

He started his career in Boston with GE Aerospace which eventually evolved into Lockheed Martin with a total of 39 years of dedicated service.  He received Lockheed Martin’s 2017 NOVA Award which is their highest award and recognizes extraordinary members within their whole corporation.
George was always smiling. He had the biggest, happy grin for everyone and everything he would be doing. He was happiest at their “cabin” in Pennsylvania. He was always smiling and so relaxed. He loved it so much. He was so excited with all the plans for expanding the cabin into their dream home. His brother-in-law Bill and he were like two peas in a pod when it came to planning projects, working on a project or just shooting the breeze about the next one. There never was a dull moment with the two of them and they were both looking forward to many future projects once George and Vikki were in Pennsylvania full-time.

It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They offer a sense of closure and allow loved ones to share memories and condolences with each other.

Who writes an obituary?

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary typically includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. You may also include a photo, quotes, or personal anecdotes to make it more personalized.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it ranges from 100 to 500 words. Keep in mind that longer obituaries may incur additional costs or be edited for space constraints.
