Obituary Preview: David “Cricket” Bass, AKA, “Bassman”, 64, of Petal, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at University of Mississippi Medical Center. A gathering of friends will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the Petal Civic Center.
Mr. Bass was the Merchandising Manager of Stokes Distributing, where he loved working for over 30 years. He loved drawing, cooking, and music. He was always the life of the party and loved to entertain his family and friends by singing and dancing. Above all, he was a devoted, encouraging, and loving husband and father. He made sure that his sons knew that he supported whatever it was they wanted to do in life.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Bass, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Karyn Andrews Bass of Petal; his sons, Kyle Bass (Kayla) of Hattiesburg and Corey Bass of Petal; his mother, Louise Bass of Petal; his sister, Linda Garner of Hattiesburg; his brother, Dale Bass of Hattiesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Petal with services immediately following at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be Hillcrest Cemetery.
Ms. Alford was a member of Petal Harvey Baptist Church. She graduated from Petal High School in 1963. She also graduated from William Carey University before receiving her Master’s Degree in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977. She was a Coin Collector for Bell South for 32 years before her retirement in 1997. She loved traveling, cooking, and attending gospel concerts with friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Johnnie B. and Catherine Strickland; her mother and step-father, Darise and John Massengale; one grandson, Luke Simmons; one brother, Johnnie Wayne Strickland; and one step-brother, Mike Massengale.
She is survived by her daughter, Christi Simmons of Summit; four grandchildren, Sarah Simmons of McComb, Leah Simmons of Smithdale, Matthew Simmons of Summit, and Eli Simmons of Summit; and her beloved dog, Ami.

Mrs. Gates was a member of Petal First Baptist Church. She began her career as a seamstress at Big Yank, and later, took time as a homemaker with her family as well as fostering several children over the years. She later worked as a hostess at the Forrest General Hospital Cafeteria and finished her career as a caregiver with Home Instead Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gates and her parents, Cleve and Elma Lovette.
She is survived by her daughter, Wyn Gates Mims (Scotty) of Petal; her son, Christopher Gates of Petal; four grandchildren, Charlie Marlowe (Katie) of Mobile, AL, Sam Marlowe of Petal, Cody Mims (Alyssa) of Petal, and Kandi Gates of Laurel; one great granddaughter, Millie Mims; and one brother, Pat Lovette (Betty) of Seminary.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mac “Buster” Byrd. They married when she was 16 years old. Carol and Buster are the parents of four children, Randy, Kendall, Scott, and Kayla Byrd. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Cameron Bass, Jaci Price, Peri Byrd, Landunn, Mason, Brandun Patterson, Jessica Boney, and Justin McKay; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Gayle Moore Fiveash; one brother, Jerry Creel; and many others who would claim her because she babysat many children throughout her time here.

He was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Jerry Lavell Knight, Sr., and Shirley Dunnam Knight. Jerry enjoyed being a storm chaser, ham radio operator, working on computers, and collecting guns. He loved his family and was a Master Mason in the Petal Grand Lodge of Mississippi, F. & A. M, #516, a member of the Grand York Rite Bodies of Mississippi, and the Knights Templar of the Hattiesburg Commandery #21. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Lavell Knight, Sr., a brother, James Knight, and a sister, Vicky Knight.
Survivors include his wife, Marites Sumilang Knight, whom he married on October 12, 2005, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; children, Brandi Baxter of Walker, Louisiana, Kelly (Jason Austin) Knight of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jarred (Drew) Knight of Walker, Louisiana; his stepfather and mother, Wayne and Shirley Canard of Gautier, Mississippi; grandchildren, Aiden, Slayde, Kash, Hudson, Myles, Brielle, and his fur baby, Beaux.
Visitation for Jerry will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Petal Chapel of Moore Funeral Home on Friday, April 5, 2024.

She is survived by three sons, Dr. Keith M. Dianne was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She graduated from Petal High School. She drove a school bus for Petal Schools for many years. Dianne was one of the founding members of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department and served as Secretary up until her stroke in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Nola Mae Morris; a brother, Thomas E. Morris; and a grandson, Joshua Trey Walters.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Grady McCardle; two daughters, Michelle Walters (David Herrington) and Janene Page (Greg); four grandchildren, Daniel Walters (Heather), Drew Walters (Tori), Chelsea Kitchens (Mack), and Ally Page (Bailee Daughdrill); seven great grandchildren, Tayte Walters, Kylee Walters, Nola Kitchens, Karlyn Walters, Bennett Kitchens, Grady Walters, and Macy Walters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
