Departed: 07/29/2023 (Missouri City)
Obituary Preview: Willie Ray Marshall, also known as Big Daddy, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the age of 62, in Houston, Texas. He was born on Monday, August 29, 1960, in the same city, as the last child to Willie James Marshall and Curlie Lee Marshall. Willie was a beloved husband, father,
brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Willie received his education in the Houston Independent School District,
completing his secondary education at James E. Madison High School in 1979. He then enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, in 1980. After a year of service, he was honorably
discharged. He began his young adult life pursuing gridiron dreams. He tried out for the Houston Oilers and became a member of the practice squad. He then played for
the original Houston Gamblers of the USFL. After his football career ended, he became a truck driver – a professional role that he held at various companies until December 2020. However, he maintained his connection to the game by becoming a football coach for his nephews’ little
league football teams. Later in life, he also refereed games. Outside of work, Willie was a devoted pit master, who rose early to smoke ribs, chicken, and other meats until they were fall-off-the-bone ready. He also loved riding his motorcycle and flossing in one of his trucks - a Blue Ford F-150 in the
1980s, a Lincoln Town Car in the 1990s, and a Black Ford F-150 in the 2010s. He loved watching and commenting on sports. Once his kids were out of the house, he earned credentials to referee football and basketball. In his free time, he loved to listen to music and do so loudly. In his club days, he was known to
have his dance called “The Bill”. Willie was a charismatic individual who deeply impacted the lives of those around him. Friends and family fondly remember him as a jovial, affable, honest, and long-winded person. There was always a lesson he wanted to share to help friends and family navigate the ups and downs of life. He had an unyielding zest for life, approaching it with vibrant colors and an outgoing nature. Willie never met a stranger; he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a trash talker fluent in the language of smack. He held a special place in his heart for his family, embodying kindness, compassion, and a strong work ethic that he
imparted as valuable lessons. Willie was a great source of joy and inspiration. Whether through his attentive listening, mentoring, or problem-solving, he left an enduring mark as a true friend and role model. His boundless spirit and genuine happiness were truly infectious, making him a beloved individual
whose memory will forever resonate. Willie leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. GLADYS ERNA ROGERS - July 07, 1927 - May 14, 2022

Departed: 05/14/2022 (Missouri City)
Obituary Preview: Gladys Erna “Oma” Rogers entered her heavenly resting place on May 14, 2022, just shy of her 95th birthday. She is in the hands of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is united with her loving husband, Lee and beloved son, Tim. She leaves behind daughters Susan Rogers and Mary Ann Dougharty, grandsons Michael Smith and Ben Rogers, granddaughter Nadine Rogers, and great granddaughters Kayla Rogers, Thalia Rogers, Adrienne Smith, and Leighton Smith.
Gladys was born in Geronimo, Texas and lived in Texas her childhood years, a lot of which were on a farm, which probably made her the pillar of strength she was. She was living in Seguin, Texas when she met the boy next door; they were married after his service in the U.S. Navy, until his untimely death in 1980. During their marriage they lived all over the United States from Wyoming to Louisiana to Alaska, to California, and back home to Texas. Their final home was in Missouri City, Texas.
She was the mom and grandma that was always involved and enthusiastic about whatever her kids and grandkids were excited about. She was the mom that had cookies waiting after school. She was the Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher. She was always supportive of all her family in every way and was the “rock” of the family.
After her children grew up, she worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer until she was 80 years old. After retirement she volunteered at a hospital and continued her involvement with New Hope Lutheran Church. She took her joy in helping others and volunteered in her community. She had a very kind and loving spirit and always looked for the best in everyone. May her example of graciousness, love, and forgiveness continue to live in all of us left behind.
Her life will be celebrated on June 8, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. at Missouri City Funeral Directors at Glen Park, 419 Present Street, Missouri City, TX 77489; Phone: (281) 403-3350.
