At times, Aniceta worked at both jobs simultaneously. During this time, her grandchildren were in her life. Aniceta adored, loved...would do anything and everything for her grandchildren. They were Aniceta's "LOVES"...which the family admired her for.
Aniceta was kind, she was welcoming, she had a unique characteristic and charm that exudes such positive energy. Food, her orchids and roses were her passion. Casinos, crossword, word search puzzles, the little electronic solitaire and of course her Filipino channels made her eyes light up. Aniceta enjoyed, well, the necessity to be bright and cheery as much as possible with her dress style, her jewelry, her bright red, oraneg or pink manicures and pedicures. Aniceta was her friends' and families' light, smile and love. She was "safe" .. And even though mom was not eating in the last days of her life, Elena manage to make mom eat a few things that nobody else was able to do showing that both of them had bonded in a very special way. Mom would open her mouth "wide".
Toring was also loved by her nieces and nephews in Georgia where one of her nieces said that they would "line up" to get their hugs. She is affectionately called "Aunt Toring" there in Georgia to this very day.
There will be a "viewing" for Toring on Friday, January 18th from 3:00PM-7:00 PM where all who knew her can say their "good-byes" to a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, Aunt and many very special friends. Mission Memorial Park 1915 Ord Grove Avenue

Wha Kim - August 28, 1934 - January 01, 2019

Departed: 01/01/2019 (Seaside)
Obituary Preview: On New Year's Day, 2019, Dr. Wha Ja Kim passed on peacefully while with her family on the Monterey Peninsula.
Dr. Kim pioneered the acceptance of the Asian medical system of Acupuncture in the West and maintained an Acupuncture practice in Monterey for several decades. Born in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Dr. Kim's interest in the science and art of acupuncture developed as a young girl, while caring for her ailing mother and observing the local acupuncturists. She went on to deep study of the Acupuncture system and received certification.
Before acupuncture was widely accepted in the West, when Dr. Kim began practicing in America, those interested 1n the medical science had a difficult time finding qualified Acupuncture practitioners and the practice was widely misunderstood and even feared by some religious leaders.
Dr. Kim's practice in Monterey extended to various religious leaders a catholic Bishop and Korean Buddhist leader and meditation master Ku San Sunim. Ku San made a point of meeting with Dr. Kim whenever he visited Sambosa Buddhist Temple in the Carmel Valley. The Carmelite nuns, who live in solitude south of Carmel, also discovered Dr. Kim and eventually became regular clients.
With her mastery of Acupuncture, Dr. Kim attracted world class sports figures looking for a competitive edge, including pro golfers, pro football players and cyclists. Circumstances lead to her become ng likely the first acupuncturist to manage sports medicine for a Tour de France rider, who became the first American to qualify for Tour de France and the first American to place in the top 10 in the Tour. She also rode, as chief medical support, on the 1985 Race across America, an endurance contest in which the rider she treated won the race by riding a bicycle from Huntington Beach pier California to Atlantic City, New Jersey in less than 9 days. Dr. Kim kept the winning cyclist riding and resting through daily acupuncture treatment for the entire race.
Dr. Kim apprenticed a number of acupuncturists whom she selected and who ate still practicing around the world today and passing on her skill and knowledge.
She is survived by her 3 children and 2 Grandchildren.

Cornelia Corpus - October 01, 1919 - October 26, 2018

Departed: 10/26/2018 (Seaside)
Obituary Preview: Cornelia V. Corpus passed away at the age of 99 on October 26, 2018 while under hospice care at the Pacific Grove Healthcare Center. Cornelia is survived by her sons Edward and William Corpus, and grandson William Conahan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo B. Corpus, parents Alberto Velasquez and Petronila Frias, sisters Natividad Bayan and Benita, and brothers Gavino, Servilliano, Bernardino and Perfecto Velasquez.
Cornelia was born on October 2, 1919 in the municipality of Urbiztondo, Pangasinan Province, Philippines.
She was twenty-two years old when Japanese military forces invaded the Philippines on December 8, 1941. She remained in the Philippines during the nearly four years of World War II. After the end of war, Cornelia left for the United States on July 3rd, 1946.
Between 1947 and 1951, she attended the School of Nursing at Boston University in Massachusetts and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Education.
She met her future husband, Guillermo Buendia Corpus, while he was majoring in Public Administration at New York University. They fell in love, returned to the Philippines and married on September 27, 1952. Edward, their first son, was born a year later.
Cornelia taught at Dagupan College School of Nursing, while her husband Guillermo held a professorship at the University of the East in Manila. Guillermo returned to the U.S. to resume his post-graduate education at New York University and to prepare for Cornelia and Edward to join him. He secured a residence for the family in New York City’s Greenwich Village, anticipating their arrival.
As Superintendent of the School of Nursing, Cornelia remained in the Philippines just long enough to coach her students towards attaining degrees at the top of their class. For the remainder of her life, she would remember this as one of her proudest achievements.
Mother and son departed the Philippines on July 10th, 1955. Reunited with Guillermo in New York City, second son William was born in April, 1957.
Cornelia began her U.S. career as a private duty nurse in New York City at French Hospital. After 1960 she attained the position of Assistant Director of Nursing and then Director of Nursing Services at the Montefiore Medical Center in the northern borough of the Bronx. She remained at Montefiore for the next twenty-five years until her retirement.
Her dedication to nursing compelled her to moonlight on her “days off”, riding the New York subways from her Bronx home to Park East Hospital in the borough of Manhattan. She secured for her now teenage son Edward part-time work as switchboard operator on the night shift.
During the time that the Corpus family resided in the New York–New Jersey metropolitan area, Cornelia’s brother Perfecto Velasquez had established his own family on the central coast of California. Cornelia and husband Guillermo would eventually join them there, purchasing a home in Seaside in Monterey County, where she moved shortly after her retirement in November 1985.
Her husband Guillermo passed away on March 31, 1991 two months short of his eighty-sixth birthday. Except for a brief residence in Las Vegas, Nevada, their Seaside home would be Cornelia’s residence for the next twenty-seven years.
Cornelia has always shown tenderness towards animals. She found joy in the company of her small dogs, and in occasionally hosting a visiting cat or dog for their vacationing owners. Feeding the wild neighborhood birds that called at her kitchen window and watching their antics was second favorite. Generous and kind, she was always ready to assist her sons, relations and friends in their needs.
Mounting health issues finally necessitated shifting Cornelia’s place of residence to the Pacific Grove Healthcare Center (formerly P.G. Convalescent Hospital) in 2013.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 6 at 10:00 AM. According to her wishes, her cremated remains will be interred with her husband’s at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside, California.
