Anna Maria Vasquez - June 20, 1970 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Anna Maria was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 27, 1970. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Estela (Perez) Vasquez. Her sister Andrea V. Robinson, brother-in-law, Guffie Robinson, her only niece Monica Robinson, and Godsons Justin Saucedo, Adam Rosas, and Christian Pruneda. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Arnulfo Perez and Rebecca Perez, and her paternal grandparents, Francisco Vasquez, Jr. and Margarita Vasquez.
Paul Bearers: Nathan Davis, Michael Limon, Steve Pruneda, Christian Pruneda, Leroy Rodela, and David Eric Vasquez.
Honorary Paul Bearers: Guffie Robinson and Frank Vasquez, Sr.
Anna exhibited her independent spirit at a very young age by walking at eight months and talking in complete sentences by 18 months.
She was an active child, dancing ballet folklorico, playing kickball, and soccer. Following in the steps of her family’s lineage of musicians and love for music, she was a member of the Lanier High School band and played the flute. She enjoyed the spirit and energy the band brought to the football games. She worked hard to prepare for band competitions and was awarded a medal for her superior performance. After graduating from Lanier High School, “Class of 88,” she moved to Lubbock, Texas, to attend Texas Tech University. “Guns Up!”
During the summer, while attending Texas Tech, she worked as a Claims Assistant for State Farm Insurance. She moved back to Austin, and at the age of 23, purchased her first home. She worked at Motorola, then began her career as a public servant, working for the State of Texas. She worked at the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, dedicating 12 years to state service.
Anna was very creative and enjoyed crafting as a hobby. She truly enjoyed making mums for her cousin’s football games and graduations. With her impeccable organizational skills, she planned and assisted in planning many parties, dinners, vacations, weddings, and activities for her family. Anna also loved camping, enjoyed time on the lake in their family boat, football season weekends were a must; Saturdays were rooting on the “Red Raiders,” and recently rooting for Deion Sander’s Colorado Buffaloes; with Sunday’s saved for the Dallas Cowboys, regardless of their record.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, and having the perfect table setting to enjoy the fruits of her labor, paired with fine wine of course. Anna also enjoyed music, an eclectic array of artists, such as: Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Erasure, The Cure, Information Society, INXS, The Smiths, Prince, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind and Fire, The Gypsy Kings, Jill Scott, and Ella Fitzgerald, to name a few. With that, she also enjoyed dancing and having a cocktail or two.
Throughout life, Anna faced many challenges and always handled them with courage and faith. In 2006, she received news that she was in renal failure and in 2009 received a kidney from her cousin Frank Vasquez, Sr. Because of this, she and Frank had a special bond.
She had an infectious smile and laugh that would light up the room. She was kind, caring, loving, and a giver. Although she didn’t have children of her own, she was blessed with many “littles” in her family. She was a mother figure in all aspects of what that entails. She had plenty to offer, hugs and kisses, quiet talks full of advice or just listening, of course, scolding, when necessary, but out of love. The door to her home was always open, whether it be for a day or two, or longer if you needed.
She loved her friends and family fiercely and expressed it regularly. To know her was to love her and be loved by her, unconditionally. She encouraged her parents to enjoy life but to also take care of their health. She was the best big sister Andrea could ever ask for and the best “Tia Anna” Monica could have.
Her absence will be greatly felt by those left behind to honor her memory. Included are lots of aunts and uncles, thirty first cousins, a host of extended cousins and friends. Fly high with the angels Anna!
Visitation Service for Anna will be held on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 from 5:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of The Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH-35, Austin Texas 78704.

Extrañaremos a María.

Mike G. Amaro - September 29, 1927 - February 21, 2024

Departed: 02/21/2024 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Our Beloved father, Mike G. Amaro, 96 was called home to heaven on Wednesday, February
21, 2024.
Mike was born at home in Creedmoor, Texas on Thursday, September 29, 1927. He was the oldest child out of 7 to Eladio & Theresa Amaro. Going to middle and high school was not in the books for this young man. He went straight to work in the fields. At one point he tried going into the service but was turned away because was told that he was too small and too skinny to enlist in the Army. At a very young age, he picked up a guitar and was self-taught. He was a very talented guitarist and knew the inside and outside of an acoustic and bass guitar like the back of his hand. He played with many bands and was good at what he did. There were many bands that wanted him but he declined and stayed true to his compadre, Manuel Donley y Las Estrellas. He also earned the nickname, "Lil Mike". Twinkle was given to him by his wife, Josie. Many relationships were formed while on the road playing various weddings, quinceaneras, and parties. Mike's motto was, "I don't like parties unless I'm getting paid to perform ."
As a young adult, he picked up a golf club and liked hitting the balls.
He worked many years as a presser at Darlings Cleaners and Sweet Cleaners. While at Darlings Cleaners, he invented his own concoction for removing tough stains on garments. The owner wanted to buy his recipe but he didn't allow that to happen.
Whether he was at home fixing something, working, playing at a party, or just semi-relaxing, he kept busy. We say semi-retirement because even after retirement he still wanted to work. Up until his wife's passing he was very active in the 7:30 am choir at Sta. Julia. At that point, he started having health issues with his knee and wanted to attend mass for it was just a little more difficult for him. He remained a devout catholic and his faith was stronger than ever. He loved all of his children. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
In the recent weeks that passed, he was happily waiting to meet his newest great-grandchild, Roselyn Josephine. Mike shared 60 wonderful years with his wife, Josephine Hernandez Amaro who preceded him in death. His daughters, an infant baby girl, Amparo Angel Amaro, and Dolores Amaro. His sister, Simona Esparza and brother, Paul Amaro Sr.
He is survived by his children, Alfred, Richard (Fermina), Ernest, Mario (Melissa), Daisy, JohnAlbert (Lynn), Christal (Joseph), Miguel, Mike Jr. (Valerie), Benny and Teresa; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters Daisy Martinez, Mona Amaro, Helen Gomez, and brother Bruno Amaro, Sr. along with many nieces and nephews.
It broke our hearts to let him go but he was ready and knew that his time was limited. He will forever live in our hearts and he will always be talked about, just as he is here.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home - East Side, 1615 East Cesar Chavez Street.
Services for Mr. Amaro will conclude at the close of the night.

Michelle Marie Cole - October 31, 1970 - February 20, 2024

Departed: 02/20/2024 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Michelle Marie Cole, 53, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024. Michelle was born a happy baby and that happiness never waned.
As a hairstylist, she utilized her creativity in the salon to boost the spirits of her long-term clients, while also learning about their lives.
She was moved by the holy sites in Rome, and in Israel, such as Bethlehem in the West Bank. Her heart pumped wildly as she watched the bulls of Pamplona storm through the cobblestone streets; she danced to the music of Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro; and she even got to meet her relatives in the small mountain village of Caccamo, Sicily. She especially loved traveling to India to attend a friend's wedding. She was in love with life.
Karen Lynn, Michelle's big sister, was her most trusted friend. It was always a joy to watch them tease one another and laugh while sharing stories. Karen and her husband, Jason, loved her dearly.
Michelle experienced a new kind of happiness in 1990 when her son, Shelby, was born. This was one of her proudest moments. She lived for him. She was blessed again in 2019 when Shelby and Lauren had their own son, Beckett. Her most important role became "Meemaw," and she loved him fiercely.
Being Aunt Shelly to her niece, Gianna, the daughter of her little brother, Criss, and his wife, Helena, filled her with joy.
Most importantly, Michelle found the man of her dreams in her husband, Brent Parish, and they enjoyed their life together. This past year, he gave her the most tender, loving, and devoted care. Brent's parents, Ron and Kayla, loved Michelle as their own daughter.
On behalf of our family, we would like to thank the many people who helped her during this time, such as Dr. Kyaw Aung, Maya Simand, and her close friends.
We love you, dear Michelle. Dad (Dennis Cole) and Elizabeth.

She was a loving sister, mother, memaw, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend to many in Austin and at her parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe. She will be greatly missed by many, especially her family.

Mary Louise was the epitome of a lady. She was kind, elegant, full of grace, and very beautiful. Though, unlike some ladies, she was very fond of telling strangers her age. She enjoyed time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially to places in Europe. She was very fond of Paris. She enjoyed spending time with her family whether it was the mundane like shopping, movies, meals, or annual traditions like post-midnight mass Christmas celebrations. She loved dancing and could often be found on the dance floor, dancing for hours without ever breaking a sweat.
Mary Louise was a devout catholic. She was a eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for many years. She was active within the parish, helping with various church activities over the decades she was a parishioner. She and her brother, Rudy, could often be seen each year at the Jamaica bingo.

She is survived by her four great-grandchildren Matthew Holt, Josiah, Carter, and Gray. Mary Louise was a source of unrelenting support for her children and grandchildren. Joke battles were often fought over who had the most rights to claim her love and attention amongst her kids and grandkids. She was truly the best mom and memaw!
Mary Louise’s rosary service will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on February 21st, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on February 22nd, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
Burial will directly follow funeral services at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
A funeral reception will be held at the Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Parish Hall following burial.
