Dan graduated from Claflin HS in 1979 later receiving his Associates Degree from Barton Co. Community College. He married Melanie Bieberle at St. Joseph Catholic Church on September 21st, 1985. Dan worked for Sunflower Electric for over 20 years before retiring in 2020.
Survivors include wife, Melanie Zink, Ellinwood; son, Kyle (Miranda) Zink, Great Bend; daughters, Stacy (Kyler) Clawson, Lindsey (Jonathan) Andrasek, Great Bend; brother, Mark Zink, Salina; sisters, Susan (Craig) Goodell, Lindsborg, Janet (Kent) Klug, Overland Park, Joni (Don) Haines, Great Bend; beloved grandchildren, Cooper, Cameron, Brynlee, Madalynn, Mikayla and one on the way. She was born April 23, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank and Martha Elizabeth (Shutts) Lynch. She graduated from Turner High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1957 and married Jack Andrew Teeter on August 17, 1957 in Brenner Ridge, Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Great Bend, Kansas in 2015.
She worked in the cafeteria at Turner Grade School and for Gear for Sports both in Kansas City, Kansas. She had a passion for animals and animal rescue. She was a member of the Heartland Dalmatian Club of Kansas City.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack, of Great Bend; daughters, Martha Ann Socolofsky, Topeka, Kansas; Tammy Sturn (John), Ellinwood; Jane Spuehler (Michael), Independence, Missouri; brother David Lynch (Linda) Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and grandchildren Jason Socolofsky, Justin Socolofsky, Lainie Sturn, Lauren Spare, Eli Sturn, Brandon Spuehler, and Heidi Hood; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Obituary Preview: On Tuesday, February 15th, 2022, Nathan Miller, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 61.
Nathan was born on September 20th, 1960 in Great Bend, KS to Harold and Elma Jean Miller. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1979, and worked for the City of Ellinwood for the last 39 years. On August 19th, 1979 he married Pam Caffee. They raised two children, Breauna and Brayden Miller. Nathan had a passion for hunting. His sanctuary was spending time at his two favorite hunting spots, enjoying nature, and the Kansas sunsets. Nathan was an avid collector of antiques and was intrigued by the story each item would tell. A man with a passion and love for all genres of music. Nathan enjoyed spending time with family, especially his children and grandchildren. He cherished every moment. He was known for always being genuine, his infectious smile, his warm-hearted personality, and his famous words, “Thank you for being my friend.”

He was born on April 6, 1951 in Wichita, KS he was the son of Robert and Frances (Rogers) Hanne. John was an Ellinwood resident for 1 year, and a Las Vegas resident for 30 years. He served in the Army National Guard, was a member of the American Legion and loved his motorcycle. Survivors include his three daughters, Shonda (Shane) Sowers, Salina, KS, Sherry (Scott) Marcic, Great Bend, KS, Francesca (David) Hanne, Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Frank (Wendy) Wasson, Mesa, AZ, David Wasson, IL, Roger Wasson, Texarkana, TX, Wayne Wasson and Robin Hanne; sister, Leah Davis, Texarkana, TX; grandchildren Ethan, Leah, Salem and 5 grand-pups.  He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Wesley Wasson.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place May 7th 10 am at Lakin- Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, KS. Memorials for John can be made out to Minnis Chapel to assist with funeral expenses in care of Minnis Chapel, 113 N. Main St, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Lowell “Red” D. Meier - Unknown - February 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Lowell (Red) Meier entered the kingdom of heaven on Saturday, February 12,2022 at Ellinwood Hospital.  The son of Claus and Marie Scheuerman Meier born on the family farm near Bison, Kansas, March 26, 1932.  Red entered the Army on 1952, a veteran of the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1957.  He worked for Northern Natural Gas (Enron) for 44 years.
On July 6, 1957 he married Carolin (Sue) Meier in Bushton, Kansas. Sue entered heavens gates February 2018.  Red and Sue made their home in the Claflin area and were blessed with four children: Ricky, Christy, Cheryl and Byron.  Red is survived by grandchildren Byron (Betsy) Landis, Courtney (Samantha) Landis, Christopher (Morgan) Isern, CayLee Isern and  Cody (Anna) Isern.  Great grandsons: Ni’Shaune, Koas’Tyne and A’lec Landis and Theodore Landis. Red was preceded in death of his two sons Ricky and Byron, sisters MaryLeen Brown, Joann Wunder and Wanda Kayartz.  Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Red was an avid sports fan, attending games throughout the region.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 16, 2022, 10:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church Ellinwood, followed by burial at Bushton Cemetery.  Visitation will be from noon to 6 PM, Tuesday, February 15, family present 4-6.  Memorials are suggested to those who provided outstanding care for him this past month Ellinwood Hospital Foundation or donors choice in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Mary Jo Cunningham - Unknown - January 30, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mary Jo Hirsch Cunningham, 77, passed away Jan. 30, 2022 in Ellinwood, KS. She was born Jan. 1st, 1945 in Manhattan, KS to Charles & Stella Dyche Hirsch. She attended St. Joseph School and graduated from EHS in 1963 and from Kansas State with a degree in Technical Journalism in 1967 and has advanced hours in Museology from Bowling Green State University. She married Ronald Gene Cunningham in 1967 and moved to Wooster, Ohio for a year where she worked at Wooster Floral Store and OARDC in the Forestry Department. She lived in Deshler, Ohio 30 years belonging to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic minister and lector, head of liturgy committee and member of communications and community life committee, Secretary, President of the Deshler Council of Churches, member of Rosary Mission Guild, and member of the Toledo Diocesan Synod on the Ecumenical committee. Other memberships include Bartlow Township Historical Society, Henry Co. Historical Society, Black Swamp Spinners Guild, Company of Military Historians, Old Northwest Department, Riley Co. Historical Society, Kansas Historical Society and Ellinwood Historical Society. She was a member of the National Cookie Cutter Collectors Club, Editor of Cookie Crumbs their national newsletter, regional President of Heart of America Cutter Collectors, Secretary of Golden Belt Model Railroaders Club, member of Hutchinson Antique and Collectors Club. Additional memberships include American Legion Auxiliary, and was President of the Heritage Club (Ellinwood Senior Center). Mary Joe wrote the History of Immaculate Conception Church and its update, written Dyche Trail and Tails and published the Journal of 1800-1840 for the U.S. and Canada for 15 years. Also she published I.C. Light, Spin a Gram, Henry's Attic Newsletters, Echoes the newsletter, and Ridin' the Rails newsletter. She published Keeping in Touch for cookie cutter collectors and tinsmiths in the US and Canada. Mary Jo also gave  a number of presentations at National C.A.M.P conferences and had articles published in the Journal of America's Military Past. She later worked for Deshler Flag newspaper in Ohio and for the Brewer Bohlander Publishing Co. and was Editor of the Ellinwood Leader for 9 years. She was active in War of 1812 living history program primarily at 1816 Historic Ft. Wayne, 1813 Fort Meigs, Ohio, but traveled further East and to Canada. She chaired the Ellinwood German Christmas Open Haus and hosted eight regional Heart of America cookie cutter meetings in Ellinwood.  She is survived by Husband Ron, Ellinwood, KS; sister, Kathleen Hildebrand, Hutchinson, KS; niece Star Hildebrand; her dog Fergi the Corgi. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dog Cora the Corgi and Mask her loving Cat.  Cremation will take place and services will be scheduled at a later date with Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood.

Beverly A. Zimmerman - September 08, 1939 - January 30, 2022

Obituary Preview: Beverly A. Zimmerman, 82, passed away in Great Bend, KS on January 30th, 2022.  She was born on September 8th 1939 in Ellinwood, KS to John S. and Pauline (Miller) Blehm. Bev graduated from Ellinwood High School in May of 1956, and in September of that same year married Robert M. Zimmerman at Evangelical Church in Ellinwood. After moving around while Bob was with the military, and then the oil patch, they returned to Ellinwood where Beverly was a resident for 56 years.
She worked as a secretary at Ellinwood High School, United Church of Christ, Ellinwood Hospital, and worked at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood as the social service director. She owned and operated Flowers & Things floral shop for several years as well.  She was a 4-H leader for a number of years, belonged to the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, United Church of Christ Altar Guild, UCC Women’s Fellowship, and served on the UCC church board.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years Robert M. Zimmerman, sons Scott (Penny) Zimmerman of Ellinwood, Kevin (Joanie) Zimmerman of Ankeny, Iowa, daughter-in-law Tammy Zimmerman of Ellinwood, brother, Jack Blehm, Guymon, OK; grandchildren Zachary (Staci) Zimmerman of Claremore, OK, Blythe (Clinton) Reinert of Sioux City, IA, Baily Black of Phillipsburg, KS, Whitney (Luke) Hoyle of Scranton, IA, Jacob Zimmerman of Slater, IA. Great grandchildren Zoey Zimmerman, Rhett Reinert, Nashlynn Black, Ava, Allie and Aspen Hoyle, and Daxten Zimmerman.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Robert B. Zimmerman and sister, Donna Adams.

Survivors include children; Jean (Joe) Simmons, Larned, KS, Luke Feist, Great Bend, KS, Ann Feist Christiansen, Ellinwood, KS; grandchildren, Kelsee Hauser, Lauren Feist, Laken Blair, Jayce Christiansen, Jaxon Christiansen, and Bradyn Christiansen; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Hauser, Emmy Hauser, Camdyn Blair, and Uriel Feist. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings; Kenneth Schartz, Vernon Schartz, Norbert Schartz, Gerald Schartz, Charles Schartz, Loren Schartz, Celesta Bennett, Mary Bowes, Leon Schartz, Thomas Schartz, & Patrick Schartz.

Carlon R. McMullen, 84, passed away in Wichita, KS on Jan. 19th, 2022. Born in Oklahoma City, OK on Sept. 3rd, 1937 he was the son of Cleo & Anna Bell (Neally) McMullen. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1957 and later joined the United States Army. Carlon served his country from 1957-1960. After his service he married Emily Hazel Smith on Feb. 14, 1966. She survives of the home. Carlon worked at Stevens Motors as the parts manager before retiring in 1999. He was a 54 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Wichita, KS.
Survivors include wife, Emily McMullen, Wichita, KS; daughter, Joy Lynn Michael (Tim), Kechi, KS; sons, Don Meek, Wichita, KS brothers, Harold McMullen, Osage Beach, MO and Howard McMullen (Ann) Handford, CA; sisters, Shirley Koch, Amarillo, TX and Phyllis Eggerts, Hutchinson, KS; and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Bruggeman; brother, Ronald McMullen, sister, Carolyn Mae & sister-in-law, Cathy McMullen.

Obituary Preview: Ila Pauline Crews, 94, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood, KS on Jan. 12th, 2022.  Born in rural Shubert, NE on Aug. 19, 1927 she was the daughter of LeRoy Thomas & Goldie Elizabeth (Bodle) Vice.  Ila graduated from Shubert High School in 1945.  She earned a Diploma from the Electronic Radio-Television Institute and Western Union School in 1946.  She married Edward Eugene Crews on Mar. 21, 1947 at Humbolt, NE.  Ila worked as an office manager and later inside sales rep. for Sealright Co. in Kansas City, KS for 35 years.  Ila was a resident of Ellinwood since 1994 formerly of Kansas City, KS and Sunrise Beach, MO.  Ila and Eugene also lived at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri in the lake home that they built together for 7 years after retirement.  They moved to Ellinwood to be close to family.
Pauline was known for her hard work ethic.  She was always by Gene’s side building, repairing, trimming or mowing.  After Gene’s passing, she still did her own yard and repairs, if possible, well into her 80’s.  She enjoyed crocheting, and stainglass.  Most of all she will be remembered as the ornery and loving, coffee drinking Grandma.
Survivors include daughter, Carol Frees (Jerry), Raymond, KS; grandchildren, Lacy Frees Draznik (Matt), Austin Frees (Shelbi); great-grandchildren, Van and Stevie Draznik, Madilyn, Ila, and Jaylyn Frees; and many beloved Nieces and family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Crews, siblings Burton Vice, Edward Vice, Delores DeJonge, brother in-law Lee DeJonge, sister in-law Myrtle Vice and Nephew Kent Vice.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date with Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood.  Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Hospital Foundation (new hospital project), or Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood in care of Minnis Chapel PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS  67526.

Carson & Ella Pearl (Smith) Carson. Nona was a Barton Co. resident since 1945 where she graduated from Barton Co. Community College with a Bachelors degree in Nursing.  She married D. Franklin Ratlief on Oct. 2nd, 1951 at Great Bend, KS, later she married Elmer A. Leeper May 24, 1974 he died on Sept. 1983, she then married Carroll W. Manning on Feb 13,1997 he died on Dec. 12th, 2006.
Nona was an Ellinwood Resident since 1996 formerly of Great Bend, KS. She worked as the Executive secretary for Leben Oil Co., and as an R.N.C. at Woodhaven, CKMC, and Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, TX.
Survivors include sons, Darrel Ratlief, Geneseo, KS, Dennis Ratlief, Spring Hill, TN; daughter, Arlinda Ehler, Amarillo, TX; brother, Rusty Carson, Great Bend, KS; step-son, James Leeper, Duncan, OK; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Nona was preceded in death by her parents; and husbands, Elmer A. Leeper, and Carroll (Katy) W. Manning; and brothers, George Carson and Bobby Carson.

Matthew loved his family and loved camping & fishing with them. His love for his motorcycle and playing pool were just a few to mention. He was a Jack of all trades. Survivors include his mother Geraldine Menges, Ellinwood, KS; daughter Anna (Rex) Hammer, Ellinwood, KS; brothers Mark (Tracy) Menges, Ellinwood, KS, Mitch (Tara) Menges, Lyons, KS; sisters Mary (David) Tudor, Ellinwood, KS, Millie Menges, Ellinwood, KS, Margaret Ferguson, Kinsley, KS, Melinda Adams, Leavenworth, KS, Michelle (Donavon) Jones, of Wichita, KS; sister in law, Belinda Ketch; Grandchildren Mario and Salena Leon, Keaston and Morgan Isern; as well as many nieces and nephews. Clifford Anthony Reid, 68, passed away in Ellinwood, KS on Dec. 7th, 2021. Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago on Sept. 5th 1953, he was the son of Horace & Yevonne (Hunt) Reid. A lifetime resident of Maloney Gardens in Trinidad & Tobago he worked as the founding pastor of the Christian World Outreach Mission church. Clifford earned a bachelor’s in Theology from the West Indies School of Theology and was the Valedictorian in bible school. He married Ivy Naomi (Smith) Reid on Dec. 27, 1975. They were married for 45 years. Other survivors include Clifford’s mother, Yevonne (Hunt) Reid; Children, Clifann Birney (Bryant), Jason Reid (Meredith), Clint Reid, & Crissy Reid; Grandchildren, Joshua Birney, Rachel Birney, & Elise Reid; Brothers, Andy Reid, Hugo Reid, Stanley Reid, David Reid, Lester Reid and Wayne  Moses; Sisters, Irma Pinkerton, Althea David, Merle Lewis, Jennifer Best and Wendy Charles. Pastor Reid was preceded in death by his father Horace Reid, brother, Livingston Reid, and sister, Hazel Richards.
Clifford also worked as a police officer, helped with the management of his wife’s pre-school, and provided counseling services to parents of the children at the school. He was involved in Christian prayer meetings, which was a joy to him. He also enjoyed his work as a Pastor. Clifford was a kindhearted and loving person who worked hard to provide for his family and treasured his grandchildren. He authored and published the book, “The Life Giving Tree”.
His Funeral Service will take place 11:00 AM, Sat., Dec. 18th at the First Baptist Church south of Ellinwood with Pastor David Wesner officiating. There will be no viewing. Memorials are suggested towards funeral expenses in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Eileen Fisher, age 81, entered the gates of heaven Sunday, November 7, 2021.  She was born to Henry C. and Elsie E. (Miller) Hutchison October 7, 1940 at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas.  She was a lifelong resident of the Ellinwood area, attended Star School, District 30 near her family home east of Ellinwood, and graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1958.
Eileen was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, where the following three important events in her life took place.  She was baptized by Rev. Fred Kramer November 3, 1940, confirmed by Rev. Arthur F. Traugott April 11, 1954, and united in marriage to Stephen H. Fisher June 25, 1957, with the ceremony conducted by Rev. Arthur F. Traugott.
Through the years she served St. John as a vacation Bible school and Sunday school teacher, Sunday school treasurer since 1984, congregational secretary, altar guild member, greeter, lector, newsletter editor, and financial secretary since 1986.
Eileen was a longtime typesetter for the Ellinwood Leader newspaper, advancing from the linotype method to the photo typesetter, and finally finished her newspaper career with the computer method.  She was employed by Ellinwood USD #355 for 19 years serving as secretary at the grade school and middle/high school offices.  She retired from the school system in 2006.
Through the years she enjoyed sewing and fashioned many of her clothes and those of her children in their younger years.  Later she learned the art of paper quilling while spending winters in a Mission, TX RV park with her husband in their retirement years.  Attending all the sports and academic activities of her three children, and later those of her grandchildren, was truly a highlight in her life.  For a number of years, she served as secretary of the Cheyenne Archery Club where she and her husband were members.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen H. Fisher; two sons: Stephen L. Fisher (Kim), Wichita, KS and Scott M. Fisher (Tawnya), Overland Park, KS; one daughter: Jean R. Thiessen, Newton, KS; six grandchildren: Michele Fisher Grantham (Jason), Bonner Springs, KS, Brent Fisher, Wichita, KS, Nathan Fisher, Brett Fisher (Lindsey), Overland Park, KS, Jill Fisher, Lawrence, KS, Kyle Thiessen, Manhattan, KS; two great-grandsons: Hunter and Levi Grantham, Bonner Springs, KS; one brother: Melvin Hutchison (Sue), Worland, WY; one sister: Shirley Sparks, Salina, KS.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marla Jean Macy, 67, passed away on November 5, 2021 in Ellinwood, KS. Cancer is a thief and has taken our beloved mother and grandmother from us all way too soon. She was born to parents Herman Joseph & Mary Ann (Klepper) Kowalsky on April 18,1954 in Ellinwood, KS. A lifetime Ellinwood resident she graduated from Ellinwood High in 1972. Marla married Tom Macy on November 24, 1972 and they later divorced.She was as stoic as it gets when it came to fighting all things in life, but stood up to her cancer diagnosis and outlived it by years. Marla loved hosting her family, filling her house with laughter and games, and always wanted to be the host for her children so she could have fun too. She loved Christmas time, auctions, and antiques which she collected over the years. She always looked forward to her class reunions with the EHS Class of ‘72. She was a member of the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group, St. Joseph Church and Altar Society, Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer, and the Jaycee’s.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Kowalsky, and a son, Eric Macy.
Survivors include partner of 20 years, Paul Fullbright; daughters, Dawn (Dallas) Beck, Lisa (Terry) Gross, Andrea (Josh) Sturgis, Amanda Fullbright; siblings, Gail (Ed) Geer, Gregg (Lori) Kowalsky; beloved grandchildren, Macy Fahrney, Brynlee Baker, Bryce Baker, Myles Menges, Bella Baker, Peyton Edwards, and Ruby Sturgis; great-grandchildren, Crew Lawrence and Hadley Fahrney. He was a member of the Vintage Wheels Car Club in Great bend and has spent many years attending car shows bringing home numerous trophies and awards.
