Veronica worked for MPS food service at Kosciuszko Middle School for over 30 years. She enjoyed retirement with her job at St. John Paul II Parish. She was a proud member of The Dancing Grannies, served many years as Secretary and Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of Gold Star American Legion Post #505 and was an avid Facebook follower.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Helen Church, 3329 S. 10th St., on Friday, May 31. Visitation at 10 am followed by Mass at 11 AM.

Founding member of the Great Lakes International Gang Investigators Coalition.

John's adeptness with tools was legendary; he spent countless hours building bikes, indulging in his love for Harley Davidson motorcycles, and was often sought after for his invaluable advice and assistance.

Those close to John are left with cherished memories, especially his loving wife Siri, his adored daughter Loma, and his treasured fur baby, Boba. His legacy will be honored by his long-time friends Mark “Old Man,” Matt, Jerry, Luciano, Justin, Mike, Sue, and Brenda, who will carry forward memories of his loving and kind spirit. John’s warm presence will also continue to be felt by his extended family and friends in Thailand as well as the Department of Justice co-workers and family, who will miss him dearly.

John's life was a beacon of what it means to care deeply for others and immerse oneself fully in one's passions. He embodied the essence of kindness and love and will forever be remembered as a man who made the world a better place simply by being in it. John Barajas will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love and service will enduringly resonate. He furthered his education by attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Chuck dedicated 29 years of service to Milwaukee County Parks before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to his community. His work ethic and friendly demeanor made him not only a respected colleague but also a cherished friend to many.

An avid softball player, Chuck's passion for sports was evident both on and off the field. He not only played the game with enthusiasm but also coached and managed softball teams. His competitive spirit was matched by the camaraderie he shared with his teammates.

Chuck was a devoted fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. Beyond sports, Chuck enjoyed the warmth of First Friday gatherings with friends, where laughter and stories were shared. Summers at Okauchee Lake with friends were especially dear to him. He met his future wife while vacationing there.

Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 29 years, Mary (Franz) Sawicki. Together, they shared a life filled with love and laughter. Besides Mary, Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Zenon and Sylvia (Krzwina) Sawicki.

He is survived by a loving family, including his beloved sister Barbara (Paul) Behrndt, nephews James (Krista) Behrndt and Eric Marschke, nieces Pamela Larson, Diane (Brian) Kita, Kris (David) Huebner, Laura Marschke, and sister-in-law Connie (Jeff) Marschke.

Chuck's departure leaves a void in the hearts of his friends and relatives, who will miss his humor and generous spirit. His life was a testament to the value of family and friendship.

She is survived by her adoring husband Edward, her son Steven, and her daughters, Candyce Gauthier (Christopher) and Linda Dreger (David), and grandchildren Isaac, Isabel, and Matthew (Steven) Burnette, Benny and Jonathan (Candyce) Gauthier, and Marissa, Joshua, and Nathan (Linda) Dreger, her sister Ruth Dorava, and many family and friends.

Lucy was born in the small town of Tony, Wisconsin on a dairy farm. She was proud of her farm heritage. Lucy was a trailblazer as a young woman, moving to Denver, Colorado, with her lifelong friend Babe, skiing in the Rocky Mountains, and surfing in California.

Her love of children led her to pursue an associates degree in teaching. Her first teaching job was in a one-room schoolhouse, and she would later work as a paraprofessional teacher aide for Milwaukee Public Schools.

Family and caring for others was always central in her life. When she was in her mid twenties she returned home from Denver, Colorado to care for her ailing father.

After her parents’ passing, she moved to Milwaukee and obtained a job at CNA Insurance. It was in Milwaukee that she met her husband of 56 years, Ed, at Victor’s Cocktail Lounge. They met on March 17, 1967, and married on November 2 of the same year.

In 1968 she became a mother for the first time when Steve was born, fulfilling her dream and calling of being a mother. Steve was soon joined by Candyce (1970), and Linda (1972).

Lucy was a loving and attentive caregiver. Her dedication filled her family’s life with love and fond memories. Family and friends attest to her sweet and caring nature, always welcoming others in a loving manner. She was also known for her wit and sass.

One of Lucy’s great joys was being a Grandma. She cherished her grandchildren and showered them with love, affection, and generosity. Her grandchildren adored her back, knowing her constant support as their biggest cheerleader, who was always there for them.

Her example of love and care inspired those around her to love and care for others. She was grateful for acts of care and kindness, both big and small, offered to her, thanking others, even to her last moments.

Lucy was a woman of strong faith and set the foundation for her family’s faith, the greatest gift she could give her children and grandchildren. We know that we have a prayer warrior in Heaven watching out for us. The following is a prayer she read daily during her final weeks after coming home from the hospital: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10

A memorial gathering will be held at Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church (3672 E. Plankinton Ave., Cudahy, WI 53110) on Saturday May 4 from 9-10:45AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM. Obituary Preview: Juanita Parrino nee Blanco, aged 89, passed away peacefully early Easter Monday, cradled in the loving arms of her daughter, Laura. Her departure was met with a joyful reunion in heaven with her beloved husband, Vincent, her cherished daughter Donna, and a host of relatives and friends who had gone before her.

Vinny had the BBQ fired up, and the whole gang was there to greet her. Donna and Vinny gave her a big hug, and family friend Bob Naughton was ready with a joke to make her laugh. At a perfectly timed moment, Frank Sinatra stepped up to the microphone to sing “Summer Wind;” Nita and Vince were instantly young again, laughing and dancing. Juanita’s happiness, now complete, fills the hearts of those who remember her.

Born into the Blanco family in Chicago in 1934 during the grip of the Depression, Juanita’s arrival was a delightful surprise to her parents, James and Pauline. Her early days showcased a spirit of resilience; she overcame the challenges of a premature birth with the ingenuity of her mother’s care, who placed her in an oven as a cradle for her, symbolizing her lifelong tenacity and strength.

Despite her challenging start, Juanita's spirit was indomitable, shaped by a Catholic education that instilled in her values of self-discipline, obedience, accuracy, and the morals befitting a true lady. Her academic journey led her to Wright Junior College, where she earned an Accounting Clerk degree, setting the stage for a life of independence and resilience.

Juanita's grace and beauty, coupled with a cheerful disposition and a heart as vast as Chicago itself, made her a memorable presence. Her life took a romantic turn one summer night when Vincent Parrino, with his Fonzie-like charm, asked her to dance.

Vincent loved her very much, and six months later, gave her the lifelong dream she yearned for: a home and a family. They married in the warm embrace of a large Italian-Sicilian family, an ageless love affair filled with love, laughter, Vinnie’s antics, parties, and their princess daughters, Laura and Donna.

The sudden passing of Vincent at the age of 60 tested Juanita's strength, but she persevered, moving to Las Vegas to be close to Donna. Later, she moved to Milwaukee to live with Laura, seeking healthcare.

Juanita's later years were a testament to her undying spirit. She found joy in daily tasks, keeping up with the news, engaging in lively phone conversations, and reveling in her music. Her love for life was infectious, as was her laughter, which could light up any room.

The loss of her daughter Donna after a prolonged chronic illness again tested her resilience and inner strength. She took solace that her daughter no longer suffered, while her heart broke into pieces.

Nita continued to find a way to find meaning in her life. She serves as a gracious role model on how to age well; always interested in life, listening to her music, watching old movies, finding the simple pleasures in life. She loved to swirl in her chair. vape coming from her e-cig, as she listened to Sinatra.

She cherished her weekly “spa” treatments, a testament to the deep bond between her and Laura, who honored her father’s wish to care for her mother until the end.

Juanita is lovingly remembered by her daughter Laura, grandsons Michael and Christopher, son-in-law Rick Shaw, and "adopted" daughter Chris Moshinski. There are many more friends who have enjoyed Nita through the years who were touched by her grace and love. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chang and his assistant, Larissa, for their compassionate care throughout the years.

Juanita's life, marked by love, resilience, and joy, leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her. She danced into the next life with the same grace and spirit that defined her time on earth, leaving behind memories that will forever warm the hearts of her loved ones.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the MAX A. SASS & SONS OKLAHOMA CHAPEL (1515 W Oklahoma Ave., Milwaukee) from 10AM until the Celebration of Life at 12PM. Arlene's interests were as vibrant and diverse as her personality. She had an insatiable love for traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures. In the kitchen, her cooking was legendary, and she took great joy in sharing her culinary creations with family and friends. Blues music was the soundtrack of her life, and her passion for it was contagious. But what truly set Arlene apart was her wit and her role as the life of the party—her infectious laughter could light up any room, and her fun personality made every gathering memorable. Religion played a role in Arlene’s daily life as she attended Prince of Peace Baptist Church for over 15 years where Pastor McVictor and First Lady welcomed her.

Taking care of her girls was Arlene's greatest pride. She was not just a mother and grandmother, but a caretaker to her entire family, always putting their needs before her own. Her selfless nature was the bedrock upon which her family was built, and her unwavering support was a constant source of comfort and strength. Her ability to bring joy to others, to make them laugh, and to care for them without a second thought, defined her essence and will be her lasting imprint on the world.

Neftali was born August 15, 1977, and his life was characterized by love, sacrifice and unwavering commitment. Neftali was a devoted father to his daughter Emily, and he also took three other children under his wing as his own: Destiny, Lee Krause, Neftali Ruiz Jr., and Giavanni Gomez. He became a loving guardian to them and embraced fatherhood with grace and compassion. Providing support and guidance to his children. Obituary Preview: So many lives touched, so much love, so much caring and compassion and so much fun. In her 81 years Sandy Hofmann brought so much to the world that cries out to be celebrated and can never be replaced.

Her greatest gifts were her four children who were at her side when she was freed on Feb. 15, 2024. No one ever loved harder than Sandy or was more deeply loved in return. Amazing wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, daughter, mentor and friend, she lived a life richly shared, without a word of self-pity or complaint.

Sandy’s passion was kids. They included the many wonderful children she welcomed here from Laos along with their parents, and countless students who are now living productive lives thanks in no small part to her sending them on their way during her decades as an English as a Second Language teacher. These were her second family.

Sandy was born on Aug. 19, 1942 with a permanent love of learning. She was one of six siblings who took full advantage of each other’s company while exploring the woods and water around the family cottage in southwest Michigan. It was her nature to watch and listen and read and read and read. She held three college degrees, and if you spent any time with her, you came away happier and smarter.

And if you were even a wee bit Irish, you would never run out of things to talk about. Summer after summer, she crossed the ocean to attend classes so that she could teach the Irish language. The culture, the character, the history, the literature, the music were all a crucial part of who she was. Especially the music. Lord, Sandy loved to dance.

She is survived by Dale Hofmann, her incredibly grateful husband of almost sixty years, her daughter Tara (Dan) Serebin, daughter Dana Hofmann (Jonathan Kern), son Kyle Hofmann (Perry Moriearty), and daughter Maren Hofmann-Larsen (John Larsen), her grandchildren Zachary and Molly Serebin, Mia and Rowan Hofmann, Finn, Cormac and Eisa Hofmann-Geye, and Desmond, Declan and Pearce Hofmann-Larsen, siblings Karen Jensen (Robert Christopherson), Linda Read, Mike Read (Sharon Crandell) and Pat Read and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Harry C. Read, mother E. Virginia Read and brother Harry Cyril Read.

A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24, at Hubbard Park Lodge, 3565 North Morris Boulevard, Shorewood, WI 53211, with visitation from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and a service commencing at 4:30 p.m.  Reception to follow until 7 p.m. at the Hubbard Park Lodge.

Come say good-bye. She’ll love it.

Memorials will be used to establish a scholarship fund in Sandy’s name.

Obituary Preview: On the 26th of January, 2024, Irene M. Kopernik (nee Pioro)  of Blair, WI passed away at the age of 95. She was born in Sady, Poland, on March 28, 1928, to Chester and Katherine Pioro and her earliest days were spent in Poland.

She and her family were taken and forced to work in German work camps during World War II. They stayed in the camps under American control after the war. Here she met and married Peter Paul Kopernik.

She and her family finally made it to the United States in 1951. She eventually called Milwaukee, Wisconsin home and became an American citizen. Irene lived the American dream in many ways because she earned it through hard work, faith, and prudence. Irene worked and retired from the American Motors Corporation/Chrysler in Kenosha, where she earned a reputation for being a scrappy lady who not only got the job done but did well with a persistent, hardworking, optimistic attitude of gratitude.

Irene and Peter had a son, Peter Henry Kopernik. In addition to raising their son, she was also a significant part of her two grandchildren’s lives and provided a healthy and supporting cornerstone in their upbringing and early adulthood.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and son, her sister Janet Carillo and brother-in-laws Albert Carilo and Edmund Smieja. She is survived by her grandchildren Paul Kopernik and CarrieAnn (Bret) Glembocki, great-grandson Weylan Glembocki, nephew Albert (Jackie) Carilo, niece Susan (Timothy Baldwin) Smieja and goddaughter Jeanne (Dan) Blau. She was a friend to many, from Poland to Germany to the United States.

In 2016, Irene moved to Independence, WI and spent most of her remaining days with her devoted sister, Mary Smieja, where the two of them bonded further as sisters and brought their remaining family closer together.

She was a devoted friend and encouraged others freely. She was one of the most compassionate people anyone could meet. She was known for her amazing Polish cooking and for being kind and empathetic.

The special care given by the staff at Grand View Care Center in Blair, Wisconsin, has done much to ease the weight of the last few months, along with the ceaseless attention given by her sister, Mary. We express our heartfelt gratitude for your service as we appreciate the challenges of such undertakings.

Irene had a child-like faith as a devoted Catholic, which served her and others around her well and will serve her well in the afterlife. Her legacy lives on with all the lives she touched, and the world is now a little darker place without the sweet soul that Irene carried with grace all these last 95 years.

Services for Irene will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (3100 S. 41st Street, Milwaukee) on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service.  Burial will take place following the service at St. Adalbert Cemetery (3801 S. 6th Street, Milwaukee).
