Obituary Preview: Guy Carter, son, father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and colleague passed away May 5, 2024, at his residence in Fort Myers Florida at the age of 90. Guy was born in Shelbyville Kentucky on September 28,1933 to Mary Ellen (Snider) and Boyd W. Carter. He was proceeded in death by his wife Barbara, son Todd, his parents, and brothers Boyd (Bo) and Charles (Charlie).

Guy graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Engineering in 1957 and obtained the rank of Professional Engineer. He opened his own firm in 1962 at the age of 29 and remained in ownership throughout his career eventually retiring as the President of Staggs and Fisher in 1998. Guy served as President and National Director of the Consulting Engineers Council of Kentucky and served on the Board of Department of Buildings Housing and Construction. He was a University of Kentucky Fellow and a Kentucky Colonel.

Guy had a long and successful career and provided engineering services on some of the largest and most complex projects in Kentucky. His projects included the UK Wethington Health Science Building, Vine Center and Radisson Hotel, the state Human Resources Building, the State Office Building, UofL Donald and Delia Baxter Research Building and the Jewish Hospital Heart Lung Tower among many others. His name is on the cornerstones of buildings across the Commonwealth.

He is survived by sons Mark (Kellie), Greg (Jackie) and Keith (Andi); his grandchildren Marcie Cheshire (Dan), Kristin Esham (John), Nathan Carter (Kaitlyn), Kathrine Carter, William Carter. (Taylor), Zachary Carter, and Jacob Carter; and great grandchildren Addie, Carter, Kolbe, Greer, Lane, Beau, Reese, Riley, Casey, Lilly, Gracie, and Easton.

Ronald Penn Easterly - October 15, 1948 - May 04, 2024

Obituary Preview: Ronald Penn Easterly, 75, passed away on May 4, 2024, after a four-year battle with cancer. In 2020, doctors told him he had months to live, but Ron dismissed this diagnosis. He had too much more life to experience.

Ron was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 15, 1948, to Edgar and Ethel Easterly. The family moved to Frankfort, Kentucky, when he was a child. He graduated from Franklin County High School in 1966, having successfully played third-baseman on the baseball team and quarterback on the football team. He attended Indiana University, graduated from the University of Kentucky, married Vicki Waits, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Ron and Vicki had two sons, Chad and Chris. He recognized both his sons' unique interests and encouraged them. He went hunting and fishing with Chad and took Chris to the movies. He never forced them to be something they were not but affirmed their individual passions and goals. Then he set an example by pursuing his own in midlife…

Ron always dreamed of being a medical doctor, so after serving as a Marine and working for OSHA for nearly 20 years, he applied to medical school. He gained a Navy Reserves scholarship to attend the University of Louisville and started pursuing his dream. It didn't matter that by then, he was middle-aged. For Ron, it was never too late to dream and achieve.

He graduated medical school, then went on to serve in his third branch of the armed services, the Army Reserves. He served three military tours in Iraq in his 50s, using his medical skills and knowledge to help prevent the outbreak of disease there. He was not a moral supporter of the wars, but he served his country faithfully. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He ended his career as an epidemiologist, first in West Virginia and finally for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, retiring in 2023. Along the way, he taught in several places, including at Marshall University.

Ron was always full of energy, positive, and upbeat around everyone he encountered. He made you feel better. That was true for his family as well as his many beloved friends.

In 2012, Ron reconnected with Marilynn Holt Cunningham and began a beautiful love story, leading to their marriage in 2019. With that marriage came a bonus family, and all involved were blessed.

He is survived by his beloved wife Marilynn; sons Chad (Jenny) and Chris (Carol) Easterly; Ronda (John) Webber, Robert (Abby) Cunningham, Rachel (Daryl) Swartzentruber; brothers Edgar Ernest III, Ellis Eugene, and James Chappell Easterly; grandchildren Sophia and Makayla Easterly; Grayson and Noah Webber; Holt, Charlie, Owen and Henry Cunningham; and Ruth, Micah, Miriam, and Clara Swartzentruber. He was preceded in death by his best friend and older brother, Charles Thomas, a former Kentucky senator, who died in 2005. Ron was a faithful Christian, confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a teen. When his doctor asked him where he wanted to die, Ron said, "I don't care where I die because I know where I'm going."

Ron loved the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In the movie, Ferris says: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Ron Easterly didn't miss it. He lived life to the fullest and made everyone around him better for it.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sat., May 11, 2024, at 11:00 am at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Kentucky. A time of visitation will follow immediately after the service.

She is survived by her devoted children, Christine (Bill) Hammel, Amy (Steve) Manning, Miriam (Michael) Seasock, Brian (Julie) VanderHorst, Tim (Faith) VanderHorst, and Jeff VanderHorst. She was preceded in death by her daughter Julie Bova. Rosemary's legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren, Yon Hammel, Josh Manning, Katie Manning, Ben VanderHorst, Allison Ivetic, Chris VanderHorst, Will VanderHorst, and Jett VanderHorst, who will forever cherish their grandmother's love and guidance.

Rosemary was the dear sister of Deborah Meis, Eileen Holtzhauer, Les Prenger, and John Prenger. She was preceded in passing by her sister Velma Roeckner.

A full-time mother and homemaker, Rosemary dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. She was always putting the needs of her loved ones above her own. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

An avid bridge player and golfer, Rosemary found joy and camaraderie in her hobbies. Her competitive spirit and sharp mind made her a formidable opponent on the bridge table and a consistent presence on the golf course. These activities brought her immense pleasure and allowed her to forge lasting friendships.

Rosemary was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where she found solace and community. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with strength and comfort through the years.

Rosemary's love was a constant, unwavering force that will continue to be felt by those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, family, and faith. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her. Jim was born in Miami, FL to Raymond and Helen Mittenzwei and grew up as the youngest of two children. He led a full and vibrant life that took him from his childhood in Miami to Tampa, FL, where he married his wife, Joanne, in 1984. Together, they were blessed with three daughters while living in Tampa, FL. Jim and Joanne later moved their family from Florida to Louisville, KY, eventually setting roots in Union, KY.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Ray Mittenzwei. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Joanne Mittenzwei, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering companionship. His legacy lives on through his daughters, Gina Mittenzwei Labovitz (David), Susan Mittenzwei, and Amy Mittenzwei Stutler (Mitch), and his cherished grandsons, Austin, Graham, and Owen, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and uncle. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. An alumnus of the University of South Florida, Jim's talent and expertise in accounting propelled him to the top of the industry with a distinguished career that spanned decades.

His acumen as a CPA saw him take on prominent leadership roles at Deloitte, serving as Partner and Director for 15 years before his retirement. Prior to Deloitte, he also held a significant leadership position as a Principal at Ernst & Young, another of the “Big Four” global accounting firms. His early professional journey also included significant contributions at Lykes Brothers, Seminole Electric Cooperative, and American Express. Jim's professional integrity and mentorship left an indelible mark on the industry and those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Yet, beyond his professional talents, Jim’s heart and passion was most devoted to his family. He was a true family man. He prioritized cheering on his daughters at every tennis match and cross country meet, planning family vacations together, and always ensuring that holidays and birthdays were not only celebrated but made to feel truly special. For his own 60th birthday, Jim's greatest wish was to be with his family, so he and Joanne embarked on an adventure, visiting three different states in a single day to celebrate with each of their daughters, sharing a unique birthday meal in every location.

Jim’s way of expressing his love and appreciation was also through frequent visits to his daughters, with Joanne by his side, supporting them throughout the years by traveling to the diverse corners of the country where each had made her home. Jim also was a firm believer that a good beach vacation was the solution to almost anything. For years, he and his family would vacation to Marco Island, FL which was one of his favorite places to relax in the sunshine, drink piña coladas under the tiki hut, play paddle ball, and enjoy time with family.

Jim's enthusiasm for life extended far beyond his professional achievements. An avid supporter of the USF Alumni, he maintained a strong connection to his alma mater. His competitive spirit found an outlet in tennis and golf, sports he played with vigor and joy. Jim's love for collecting sports memorabilia was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his loyalty and passion for his favorite teams, including the University of Miami Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins, and various baseball teams.

Jim had a profound love for animals, especially dogs. He actively supported various animal rescue organizations and showered his own dogs with unwavering affection and care. Known affectionately as the resident dog watcher, he also devoted his time and love to all of his granddogs. Jim's life was indeed a resounding success, measured not only in accolades or achievements, but in the generous love he gave and the lives he touched. In maintaining the calm in his female-filled household, he frequently would say his favorite “dad-isms” with a smile: “The dogs keep barking, but the caravan rolls on.” and “Every journey begins with a single step.”

Visitation for Jim will be Friday, May 10th, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Milward - Man O 'War located at 1509 Trent Blvd. Mass will be Saturday, May 11th at 7:00 pm, at Cathedral of Christ the King located at 299 Colony Blvd.

Interment for Jim will be Monday, May 13th at 10:00 am at Lexington Cemetery. Guests are asked to arrive between 9:30 am and 9:45 am to stage around section A for procession to the gravesite.

Andrea had a passion for life's little luxuries, starting her mornings with a cup of coffee and unwinding at night with a glass of wine. Her love for sports was evident to anyone who knew her, with an unwavering support for Kentucky Wildcats Basketball, San Francisco 49ers Football, and San Francisco Giants Baseball.

Andrea's formative years sparkled with the same energy she carried throughout her life. As a young girl, she embraced the camaraderie and discipline of cheerleading and drill team, showcasing the teamwork and dedication that would become a hallmark of her character.

Her family was Andrea's pride and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her three daughters: Allyson Michelle, Hannah Victoria, and Megan Julia Hodge. Andrea's partnership with Joshua Stanford Moore was a testament to enduring companionship and mutual respect. She was a cherished daughter to Julia Cage-Lindsay and a sister who will be deeply missed by Steven Michael Cooley. Her brother, Erik Peter Cooley, and her grandparents, Joseph Franklin Cage Jr. and Carolyn Lunsford Cage, predeceased her, as did Bailey Moore, the family dog who held a special place in her heart.

Andrea's social circle was wide, and her ability to connect with others was unparalleled. She found as much joy in watching episodes of The Real Housewives as she did in the lively conversations and laughter that accompanied gatherings with friends and family.

Her life was a reflection of the scripture, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Andrea's presence will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. Her laughter, her kindness, and her unwavering spirit will remain in the hearts of all who loved her. Andrea's story is not one of sorrow, but a celebration of a life lived fully, a life that will continue to be celebrated through the memories she leaves behind.

He was married to Norma Jean Hager for 64 years. He is survived by his children, Laura B. (Les) Halls (GA), David E. Hager II (KY), Louis R. Hager (KY), and Amy R. Meyers (FL). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jason Halls, Matthew (Kayla) Halls, Kelsey Halls, Spencer (Sandy) Halls, Phil (Lana) Hager, Hunter Hager, Claire (Conrad) Banderoff, Sean Hager, Brandon Hager, Kathleen Hager, Joe (Katie) Vidal, and Mandy (Dan) Shea; and 13 great-grandchildren.

David was a retired funeral director, serving Lexington for 35 years at Whitehall Funeral Chapel of which he was co-owner and at Milward’s Funeral Directors, Inc. He graduated from University High School in 1950 & briefly attended the University of Kentucky before entering the U.S. Air Force. He served in Korea & was thrilled to go on the Honor Flight in 2019.

David was a member of the Devotion Masonic Lodge #160 F & AM, Scottish Rite 32nd degree, and Oleika Shrine Temple. He is an emeritus member of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, also serving as past secretary on the Board of Governors for Shriner’s Hospital.

Visitation will be 5-9 pm Sun. May 12, with funeral services 11:30 am Mon. May 13, both at Milward-Man O’ War, 1509 Trent Blvd. Family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be sent to Lexington Shriner’s Hospital.

Obituary Preview: John Ben Leach of Lexington, KY, born in Jellico, TN on Mar 19, 1945, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on April 11, 2024.  He was survived by his son John, daughter Mary Ann, granddaughters Corrine, Caroline and Taylor and grandsons, Jackson and Gavin, sister Clara and much loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Zella and siblings Larry, Novella, Wilma, and Gary. John had a huge heart for his family, friends, a good time, and laughter.

He proudly graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, OH in 1963 where he was Football MVP. He also served in the U.S. A.F. 1964 -1968 as well as A.F. Reserves 1968 -1970. He was successful in owning multiple businesses and properties throughout his lifetime.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Milward-Man O' War, 1509 Trent Blvd., Lexington, KY, 9:30 am with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 am. He will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Ong Ngoai, Quy Ngoc Pham, at 81 years old, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, KY. He was born March 06, 1943 at Song Be, Vietnam. There he completed college with a Bachelor’s Degree before he fought in the South Republic of Vietnam War for more than 10 years. Ong Ngoai married Ba Ngoai, Minh Thi Vo, in 1963. They have been together for 61 years and have 5 kids and 10 grandchildren who live around the world.

Ong Ngoai served in the military for more than a decade. During this time he was promoted to Captain and he assisted in the military hospital. After 1975 he spent 5 years in the reeducation camp and a few years later he found work in Laos with tree processing for a few years. He immigrated with his family to the U.S under the HO-35 program. Upon moving to America, he stayed in an apartment with his family before moving into a house. He worked at Ruskin for 10 years before retiring.

He had many hobbies including painting, playing music, photography, videography and most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He was an active member of the Vietnamese community in Lexington and he spent time teaching his grandchildren about Vietnamese culture.

Ong Ngoai was a kind hearted, giving, wise and strong man who found beauty and joy in the small things in life. Ong Ngoai was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He cherished telling stories about his past and imparting valuable life lessons to younger generations. His legacy of love and generosity will forever remain in our hearts. Though he is no longer physically here, his spirit and teachings will continue to guide and inspire us.

We would like to take this time to not only grieve his passing but celebrate the life that has made an impact on the community. He was surrounded by his family in his last moments.

Service will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 9th at Milward - Man O 'War located at 1509 Trent Boulevard, Lexington, KY. A visitation to receive family and friends will follow from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. The family kindly declines any floral arrangements at this time.

Ông Ngoại của con, Phạm Ngọc Quý, thọ 81 tuổi, qua đời thanh thản tại nhà riêng ở Lexington, KY. Ông sinh ngày 06 tháng 3 năm 1943 tại Sông Bé, Việt Nam. Tại đây, ông đã hoàn thành chương trình đại học với bằng Cử nhân trước khi chiến đấu trong Chiến tranh Việt Nam Cộng hòa trong hơn 10 năm. Ông Ngoại kết hôn với Bà Ngoại, Võ Thị Minh, năm 1963. Họ ở bên nhau 61 năm và có 5 người con và 10 người cháu đang sống khắp thế giới.

Ông Ngoại phục vụ trong quân đội hơn một thập kỷ. Trong thời gian này, ông đã được thăng cấp Đại úy và công tác tại bệnh viện quân đội. Sau 1975, ông đi cải tạo 5 năm và vài năm sau ông tìm được việc làm ở Lào với công việc chế biến gỗ. Ông cùng gia đình di cư sang Mỹ theo chương trình HO-35. Khi chuyển đến Mỹ, ông ở trong một căn hộ cùng gia đình trước khi chuyển về Stonewood Lane, Lexington. Ông đã làm việc ở Ruskin 10 năm trước khi nghỉ hưu.

Di sản tình yêu và sự hào phóng của ông sẽ mãi mãi ở lại trong trái tim chúng ta. Mặc dù ông ngoại không còn ở đây nữa nhưng tinh thần và những lời dạy của ông ngoại sẽ tiếp tục hướng dẫn và truyền cảm hứng cho chúng con.

Ông được gia đình bao bọc trong những giây phút cuối cùng.

Obituary Preview: Beginning 1/31/51: Eight out of eventually Nine siblings. Oldest sister Helen is 18 years older than C.J. Hele went to the hospital to be with Mom Murphy when Sea Jay was born and she was born during a snowstorm in Philly! Cradle Catholic: Mom had a great faith, Dad not so much. Catholic elementary/ middle school/ (although I don’t think they called it Middle school back then) and an all Catholic Girls High School that is still in operation today! I think it is called Hallahan Catholic Girls High School! Battle some with a few Nuns. Was charged with cheating on a test and sent home early! CJ remembers Dad siding with the Nun, which made CJ nun to happy! (Get it!! Nun to happy)! Being a Philly city girl the escape in the summer was to head to the shore! Rent rooms with friends and work at the shops on the Boardwalk to keep body and soul together. (really to be able to pay rent)! Sao what does a roomful of high school girls attract? (oh you are so smart). High school Boys! Sea Jay had an epiphany when she was working at the fudge shop and one of the boys who visited the day before came by wearing one of CJ’s shirts! Enough of that she thought!

With encouragement from older sister Nancy and her Dad, CJ made it thru three years of Nursing school and became an RN! In the long run what followed was 47 years of working as a Nurse!!!! Unfortunately, Dad died before she finished Nursing School.

What followed was work and fun! CJ was Hippie-Like for a while. Traveled to Spain with a girlfriend and partied like it was 1999 when it was in fact this was still the 70’s.

Fell away from the church for 15 years (much to the chargin of oldest sister Helen who had Mom and Herself praying all the time that Sea Jay would “see the light” and return to practicing the Catholic Christian Faith”.

Long story short CJ and I met in a bar in downtown Philly and it was love at first sight that lasted well over 43 years. (I know of people who will do the math and wonder? The answer is we lived in sin for several years). We were married in Philly by a Justice of the Peace with only Mom in attendance and when I was transferred to Chicago, CJ began practicing the faith again. Turned her Lapsed Lutheran into a Roman Catholic and we have both been faithful for over 40 years. I know the funeral home will want me to end soon so I will. Carol Jean Murphy Hatter was pure unadulterated LOVE as our God is pure unadulterated LOVE. Many many many people will keep her Spirit alive for as long as they live! Rest in Peace Darling!

Obituary Preview: Mr. Thomas Jay Collar, known affectionately to family and friends as Tom, passed away on March 21, 2024, in Lexington, KY, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in January of 1955, in Lima, OH, Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his wisdom, handiness, and kindness, qualities that he shared generously with all who knew him.

Tom was the proud son of Cleva Collar and the late Jay Collar. Tom spent his formative years in Englewood, OH learning the values of hard work and family. He graduated from Northmont High School before pursuing higher education in business administration at Bowling Green State University.

After completing his studies, Tom embarked on a fulfilling career that spanned several decades. He was a dedicated manager at Dayton Plastics and later at Plastic Products of Kentucky, where he was known for his strong leadership and commitment to excellence.

Tom had a love for '70s music, golf, UK basketball and NASCAR. However, his greatest joy was in being a family man. Tom's face would light up at the opportunity to watch his grandchildren—William and Katelyn Hanners, and Avery Collar—play sports, dance, and cheerlead. He was their biggest fan, never missing a chance to cheer them on from the sidelines.

Tom is survived by his cherished wife, Jane Collar; his devoted mother, Cleva Collar; his loving siblings, Susan (Joseph) Martin and Dan (Susan) Collar; and his beloved children, Emily (Matt) Hanners, Nicholas (Magan) Collar, and Andrew Collar. His grandchildren, who brought an unparalleled sense of pride and joy into his life, will hold onto the legacy of his love and the many life lessons he imparted.

Throughout his life, Tom exemplified what it meant to be supportive. His presence was a source of stability and comfort for his family. His ability to fix anything that was broken with his witty resourcefulness is something we will always look back on with a smile. Tom parented and loved his family with a gentle hand.

As we bid farewell to Mr. Thomas Jay Collar, we remember a man who lived his life with an unwavering commitment to those he loved. His memory will live on in the stories told, the advice cherished, and the love he shared.

Tom was a devoted band parent, volunteering his time to help with the Tates Creek band, in which all three of his children were once members. A Tom Collar Memorial Fund is being set up for donations to honor Tom’s memory. The fund will benefit the Greenwood Band program, which his oldest son, Nick, is the director.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 28th from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. A service to honor Tom’s life will begin at 2:00 at the Milward Funeral Directors, Trent Blvd. location in Lexington.

He is also survived by his sister, Pam (Ed) Linderman, and brother, Brian (Marilyn) Turkett, and many nieces and nephews.

Ron graduated from Plymouth High School in Michigan and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) followed by a Master's Degree from Wayne State University.

Ron had a distinguished career in the automotive industry working at General Motors and Toyota. He also established a successful consulting business and was an adjunct professor in the Engineering Department at U of M.

Ron enjoyed attending U of M football games, and his grandson's baseball games. He was an active member at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church and enjoyed working with students at Trinity Christian Academy.

Visitation for Ron will be from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church located at 3900 Rapid Run Road in Lexington, Wednesday, March 27th. A service to celebrate his life will begin at 5:00 pm with a reception to follow.

His final days were spent in Lexington, Kentucky, surrounded by the love of his family.

Christy was a devoted family man and cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His 36-year marriage to his beloved wife, Rita Hundley Taylor, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Although he was preceded in death by his father, Milton Christy Taylor Sr., his mother, Bessie Jett, and his daughter, Christina McMorris, Christy's legacy lives on through his wife, Rita, his sisters Mary Jo Monaghan, and Connie Joyce (Larry), his children, Bretta McDonald and Clifton J. Taylor, his five grandchildren, Ashley Chesser, Autumn Lacey, Skyla Moody, Brodie Taylor, and Joseph Taylor as well as his three great-grandchildren, RobertChesser, Asher Lacey, and Ava Lacey. His numerous nieces and nephews also hold dear the memories and lessons imparted by their Uncle Christy.

A proud alumnus of Henry Clay High School, Christy furthered his education at Transylvania University, where he embraced a lifelong love of learning. His academic pursuits were matched by his dedication to service, as evidenced by his time as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army.  Following his military service, Christy embarked on a distinguished 40-year career with the US Postal Service. Not one to sit idle, he continued his professional journey with 17 rewarding years at Wal-Mart before finally retiring. He was also a member of the Man O' War Church for 20 years.

Throughout his life, Christy was known for his diverse interests and hobbies. He found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was casting a line into a tranquil lake, losing himself in a good book, or enjoying the timeless narratives of classic movies. Christy was also a tinkerer at heart, always curious and eager to understand how things worked, often fixing or improving gadgets around the house.

Christy's absence leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him, yet his warm spirit and the memories shared will continue to comfort his family and friends. His approach to life, marked by kindness, integrity, and a gentle sense of humor, will serve as an enduring inspiration to all.  As we bid farewell to Milton Christy Taylor Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a family well-loved, and a man who made a positive impact on so many. His story does not end with his passing, for the love he gave and the wisdom he imparted will ripple through generations to come.

A private service to honor Christy's life will be held by his family. They extend their heartfelt thanks for the support and friendship that have been offered during this time of remembrance.  Christy's journey on this earth has concluded, but the chapters of his influence will be read and cherished for years to come.

She was born on July 3, 1989, to Tim and Michele Hill and has spent nearly every moment since then caring about others. Jessica’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her.

Jessica was known for her kind spirit, unwavering love for her family, enjoyment of music and art, desire to protect nature, and compassion for all living things. She would capture spiders indoors to release them outside. She loved pizza, video games, music festivals, camping, gardening, theatre, and art museums. Jessica wanted to bake the perfect loaf of bread, win the Price is Right Showcase Showdown, and travel the world.

She cherished every moment spent exploring new places and creating memories with her family and friends. She loved experiencing new cultures, enjoying the beauty of nature, and dreaming of a future with her daughter, Madeline Burchill, who held the most special place in Jessica's heart. Her love for Madeline was boundless, and she fought her illness with fierce determination, fueled by her desire to be there for her daughter and family.

Jessica graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and received a bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University. She was a federal program specialist for the Kentucky Department for Local Government, helping local governments acquire federal grant money for new parks and outdoor facilities. Her legacy will live on in communities throughout the state, enjoyed by people whose lives were unknowingly touched by her kindness.

Jessica's indomitable spirit, tireless work ethic, unwavering loyalty, and zest for life were evident in everything she did. She approached challenges with resiliency and courage, inspiring all who knew her. Even as her health continued to deteriorate, Jessica never gave up.

In addition to her daughter, Jessica is survived by her loving husband, Aaron Burch (Frankfort), devoted parents Tim and Michele Hill (Lexington), sister Brittany (Cory) Middendorf (Independence), little brother Chase Hill, nephew Luke Middendorf, two grandmothers, several aunts and uncles, a host of cousins, cherished best friends Leslie and Adam Weber, and her beloved cats. They are all shattered by the loss and struggling to imagine a world without her smile.

Jessica's legacy of love, strength, and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Though she may no longer be with us, her memory will continue to brighten the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

A service to celebrate Jessica’s life with story sharing will begin at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, March 13th at Milward – Man O ‘War located at 1509 Trent Blvd. in Lexington. Obituary Preview: DeWitt Talmadge Hisle II, 89 of Lexington passed away at his home on February 28, He was born July 25, 1934 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late DeWitt T “Peck” Hisle Sr. and Emily Batten Hisle. He is preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Nickerson Hisle. In addition to his wife of 19 years, Maxine Perry Hisle, he is survived by his daughter Linda K Hisle, Lexington, son Kent D Hisle (Kathy) Lexington, grandchildren Paul H Ward (Amy), Stephanie E Ward, Sarah E Hisle, Annabel H Hisle and Ella W Hisle all of Lexington. He is also survived by great grandchildren Phenex Schwarz-Ward of Louisville and Jonathan Mulberry of Lexington.

DeWitt earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky in 1956. He joined the accounting firm of Owens and Owens while still a student in 1955 and worked up until his death as a Certified Public Accountant at the firm Hisle and Company, the firm he founded in 1975, a career that spanned almost 70 years.

As a four year member of UK’s Army ROTC, DeWitt was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation from UK and served in the Reserves for 8 years.

He became a member of the Board of Directors of Jerrico, Inc in 1968 and served on that Board until the sale of the Company in 1989. He was also a Board member of Host Communications, Galls Inc., and part owner of Kentucky Lighting and Supply.

DeWitt was very community minded and served as a Board member of the YMCA, the Better Business Bureau, the Living Arts and Science Center which he helped establish, The Rotary Club of Lexington, Blue Grass Community Foundation, The Triangle Foundation, The Lexington Chamber of Commerce, and Lexington Jaycees where he served as President and was voted Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1963.

He was a founding member and Director of the Commercial Property Association of Lexington, a board member of the Lexington Home Builders Association and the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants where he was honored with the Public Service Award in 1994. He was also added to the Henry Clay High School Wall of Fame in 2014 and was inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in 2016. A lifelong fan of University of Kentucky basketball, DeWitt was a founding member of a group which championed a new home for Wildcats that began in 1968. The Alley Cats, which would go on to lead the grass roots effort to build Rupp Arena. DeWitt served as one of the initial members of the Board of Directors of the Lexington Center Corporation, a role that he would serve from 1975 until 2011. While on the Board he served as the first Treasurer and later as its Chairman. He helped negotiate the design-build contract with the developers and the operating agreement with the University of Kentucky

DeWitt was a not only a fan of basketball but a competitor as well. He competed in The US Senior Games 9 times in 3 on 3 basketball, only giving up the sport when hip replacement sidelined him at the age of 76. He was also an avid tennis player, a sport he loved and played competitively for over 30 years.

DeWitt was blessed with many close friendships, most importantly a group of men known as the Y’s Men, a service club that has supported the High Street YMCA for over 65 years. This group has met every Wednesday night for almost 7 decades to play basketball, enjoy a meal and a presentation, and solve the world’s problems.

Family was the most important thing in DeWitt’s life. As the patriarch of his family he has been a devoted father, grandfather and husband. He took responsibility for his aged aunts and his widowed mother as a young man in his 20’s, in addition to raising and providing for a family of his own. He was a present and nurturing grandfather to his grandchildren who admire him immensely. DeWitt will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

They were married 66 years at the time of her passing in 2020. John was a barber on Walton Avenue for 60 years, but his passion was fishing. He and Marjorie spent 26 years living their dream on Herrington Lake.

John is survived by four children: Sue Thornton (Eddie), Jim Dacci (Pam), Jane Sparks (Brad), and Steve Dacci (Janie), six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and son, John “Bud” Dacci, and three brothers, William “Bill” Dacci, Mayo Edward Dacci, and Robert “Bob” Dacci.

John and Marjorie were lovingly cared for in their final years by Emma Shofner, Sarita Goins, Laura Ellis, Cindy Sirles, Tammy Horton, Grant Horton, Hana Kryeziu, Djellza “DJ” Kryeziu, Diarta Kryeziu, and Jan Mason.

Obituary Preview: Ruth Lynne Midboe (née Neilson), 84, passed away in Lexington, KY, on February 23, 2024. Born in Grafton, ND, on July 15, 1939, Ruth was raised on a farm outside of Hoople, ND, where in 8th grade she met the love of her life, Dean Midboe. Ruth and Dean shared a love like no other, marrying June 19, 1960, and remaining devoted to each other for the 71 years they were together.

Ruth graduated Salutatorian from Hoople High School and received an A.D. from Moorhead State University before finishing her B.S. from the University of North Dakota. She taught elementary students at schools in Lincolnwood (IL), East Grand Forks (MN), Grand Forks (ND), and at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Ruth was always on the go. Her travels took her to Scandinavia, the Mediterreanean, the Caribbean, the British Isles, and Ireland, as well as entertaining family car trips through much of the United States and Canada. She held many positions in the American Diabetes Association, including serving as the chairperson for the North Dakota chapter. She was a long-time PEO and Past State President of North Dakota. She was also active in numerous groups at the Methodist churches she attended, the Red Cross, DAR, Red Hatters, and so many other service and social groups, being named the Grand Forks (ND) Woman of the Year in 1982. Ruth’s ability to get things done, but especially her endless care for others, positively impacted the life of everyone who knew her.

As busy as she was, Ruth always made sure she had time for her family - she was simply selfless in caring for her children Pamela, Timothy, and Kristi. She applauded through their very many concerts, games, recitals, and shows. She filled the house with wonderful aromas and earned her “taxi driver” nickname. She was always there to answer her children’s questions and provide all kinds of support, without ever forcing her own views on them. Ruth was happiest when simply spending time surrounded by Dean, her children, and her grandchildren, with a dog (or several) on her lap.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents (Mazel and Linden), and her sisters (Marion, Lois, and Jean). She is survived by her beloved husband Dean Midboe, her loving children Pamela Midboe-Penn, Timothy Midboe, and Kristi Midboe Miller (Chip), and grandchildren Kaitlin Clancy, Rebecca Clancy (Levi), Bennett Miller, and Lucas Miller.

Service to celebrate the glory of Ruth’s life will be held Thursday, February 29th at Southern Hills United Methodist with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm. Interment in Lexington Cemetery will follow. Memorials may be sent to Southern Hills United Methodist Church or Cottey College.

Van served honorably in the Navy and later obtained his Medical Degree. Van's passion for women's health led him to a distinguished career as an OBGYN, spanning over four decades. His expertise and dedication to his patients were unparalleled, and as a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), he played a pivotal role in setting standards that would enhance the field of obstetrics and gynecology for years to come.

Beyond his professional achievements, Van was a man of many interests including skiing and fishing. Van's artistic side was expressed through his love for photography and painting, capturing moments of beauty and sharing them with those around him.

However, it was his role as a family man that truly defined him. Van was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary Jean Jenkins, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Together, they raised a family that became his pride and joy: Deborah Jennes (Rusty MacSwords, II), Susan Jenkins, Van Ransler Jenkins III (Meredith), and Jason Jenkins (Kirsten). He instilled in his children the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family, lessons that they carry with them to this day.

Van’s grandchildren, Chase Marcinek, Brent Marcinek (Haley), Kathryn Newcomb, Paige Marcinek, Van Ransler Jenkins IV (Sophie), McKenzie Buehler (Walker), Miranda Jenkins, John Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, Mary Elliott Jenkins, Ben Jenkins, and Andrew Jenkins, and his nine great-grandchildren, who all survive him, were touched by his wisdom, humor, and unconditional love.

Van’s thoughtfulness will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His story is not one of an ending but a lasting influence that will continue to resonate through the generations he has shaped and friendships he has nurtured. His family would like to extend special thanks to Samuel Peoples of Richmond Place. Samuel made a point to check on Dr. Jenkins often, and this meant more than words could express.

Visitation for Dr. Jenkins will be Thursday, February 29th from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Milward - Man O 'War located at 1509 Trent Blvd. Service will begin at 12:00 pm with interment to follow in Lexington Cemetery.
