Obituary Preview: William G. (Bill) Symons passed away at his home on Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Liberal, Kansas at the age of 79.
Bill was born January 24, 1943 in Liberal, KS and graduated from Perryton High School in 1961. He went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK, Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, and Wichita State University in Wichita, KS where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a minor in Business Administration in 1971. Bill married the love of his life, Therese Sperry, in May 1965 and after living in Buffalo, NY and Wichita, KS, they returned to Liberal, KS to raise their family.  Bill worked at multiple businesses in Liberal, KS before owning his own business, Southwest Data Services, as a Xerox agent for 25 years.  Bill and Therese loved gambling and moved to Las Vegas, NV in 2005 after Bill retired, where they resided until Bill’s health deteriorated. They returned to Liberal, KS in 2018.  Bill loved traveling, playing pitch, and playing pranks on people.  Over the years, Bill was very active in Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Kiwanis, Lions Club, Pancake Day, and St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish and Elementary School where he served on both boards. Bill was a quiet, generous man loved by his family and countless friends whom he considered family!
Bill is survived by his wife, Therese (Sperry) Symons of the home and daughters Kim (GB) Caedo of Olathe, KS, Jennifer (Randy) Miller of Mulvane, KS, and Melissa (Jon) Parker of Liberal, KS; grandchildren, Cassie, Alex, and Emily Caedo; Mitchell, Camron (Lizzy), Morgan, Jordan, and LnCpl Zach Ruckman, Samantha, Alyssa, Hailey, Katelyn, Sophia and Sydney Miller; and Ashleigh, Hannah, Elizabeth, and JonDavid Parker as well as great-grandchildren Cooper, Teddy, Cameron, Regan, and Easton.
Bill also leaves behind his brothers Vic (Carolyn) Symons of Liberal, KS and Bee (Dixie) Symons of Liberal, KS; his cousin and honorary sister Shirli Poulton of Liberal, KS; and brothers-in-law Jim (Gay) Sperry of Thornton, CO and Thad (Kelly) Sperry of Oklahoma City, OK as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Leda Mae (Mutschler) Symons, a granddaughter, Madison Parker, and his in-laws Thad Sperry and Elizabeth (Maruska) Sperry Fetsch
The family would like to give special thanks to Nicole Daniels, Vanessa Avila, and Stefanie Lewis for the truly amazing job they did helping to take care of Bill over the last few years.

Obituary Preview: Eva “Lorraine” (Mata) Steadman, 64, died on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.
She was born on June 6, 1957 to Margaret (Madrid) and Consepcion "Chon"  Mata in La Junta, Colorado.
Lorraine married Jerry Don Steadman in LaJunta, Colorado.
Lorraine had a love for music; it was a constant in her home and in her car, she would sing to it and dance to it and knew every lyric. Lorraine was employed as a cook at Southwest Medical Center and later at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal; she took great pride in providing the meals for the residents there. She also had a great love for dogs and especially her family.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Steadman of the home; a son, Jerod Steadman of Liberal, KS; siblings, Floyd Whatley, Sr. of Garden City, KS, Jesse Whatley and wife Cindy of La Junta, CO, Jerry Mata and wife Janet of La Junta, CO, Gloria McKinney and husband David of La Junta, CO, Victor Mata of La Junta, CO, Christine Mata of Denver, CO, and Larry Mata and wife Connie, of Lamar, CO; mother-in-law, Betty Heston of Tyrone, OK, brothers-in-law, Gary Steadman and wife Louann of Colwich, KS, and Larry Steadman of Fort Worth, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Per the request of Lorraine's family, there will no public viewing.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, Liberal. Burial will follow in Liberal City Cemetery.

Edna Reeves - January 21, 1947 - April 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Edna Stannard Reeves, 75, of Liberal. KS  passed away Wednesday, April 13th at home surrounded by her loving family.
Edna was born in Oneida, NY to the late Alfred and Leona (Covert) Stannard and raised in Munnsville, NY.
She served in the United States Air Force and the Kansas Army National Guard.  Edna moved to Southwest Kansas in the early 1970s and lived there for the remainder of her life. Edna was the founder, proprietor, and chief operations officer of Mom’s House.  Mom’s House went through 3 expansions and several location changes over the years.  When she franchised the concept, she changed the name of the original to Grandma’s House.  Edna prided herself on making her house a home everyone was comfortable in.  She always welcomed any strays the boys brought home over the years, whether the strays were two or four legged.
She is survived by her 4 sons, Clarence (Janice) of Dudley, NC, Tim (Bonnie) of Forgan, OK, Billy (Pam) of Liberal, KS, Eddie of Liberal KS, her brother Peter (Charlette) of Munnsville, NY and sister Virginia (Jackie) of Syracuse, NY.  She also is survived by her grand children Maci, Alexis, Ethan, Adrian, Dominic, Alexus, Hailey, Dakota and her many honorary grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 32 years Clarence "Bubber" Reeves.
Cremation was entrusted to Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Calvary Mennonite Church at 831 S. New York Ave. in Liberal.  Flowers and cards can be sent to 109 W. Pine Street, Liberal, KS.

She was born on January 3, 1936 to George and Lillie (Kearns) Kagle at Concordia, KS.
On January 6, 1951 she married Earl Wayne "Bud" Hickey  at Concordia, KS; Bud preceded her in death on May 18, 1996.
Julia enjoyed gardening, fishing, "gadding" about visiting with her friends, and being with her grandkids. She was a member of  Liberal VFW Post 3166 Ladies Auxiliary.
Julia is survived by her Six Children, Jack Hickey of Hugoton, KS, Donna Owens and husband Donnie of Medford, OK, Linda Fisher of Liberal, KS, Mary Johnson and husband Kent of Hooker, OK, Bonny Ellis and husband Jesse of Turpin, OK, Gary Hickey and fiance Julia Jackson of Tyrone, OK; 15 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, Three Great-Great Grandchildren, and many Nieces & Nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her Parents, Three Brothers and Three Sisters.   There will be no viewing as Cremation has taken place.       Memorial Services will be 10:30am on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.   Memorials are suggested to the Donor's Choice in care of Miller Mortuary, PO Box 826, Liberal, KS 67905-0826.

Katherine White, 96, beloved Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother joined her Lord and Jesus Christ on Thursday March 17, at her daughter’s home in Wichita.
Katherine was born on a farm west of Emporia, KS, on February 6, 1926 to Elmer R. and Rowena (Stanton) Harris.
In 1943, she graduated from Plains High School and continued her education at Ft. Hays State College receiving an Emergency Teaching Certificate (WWII). She taught at Evergreen Township School in Meade and Bluebell Rural School, and another rural school north of Liberal. She married Edwin L. White on December 21, 1947 at First Christian Church in Hayne, KS. Edwin and Katherine made their home in Liberal.
To this union five beautiful daughters were born.
She received her cosmetology license in 1962. Over the next 56 years in Liberal she was employed at Dottie’s Beauty Shop, Elk Kan Hair and LaVelle's Beauty Shop. Also, a flower shop, furniture store and hostess at the Pancake House. She was a member of the First Christian Church and an active member of their Women’s Church Group. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, playing Farkle, Bunco and Mexican Train with family and friends. After the death of her husband of 49 years, she moved to Wichita, to be near her daughters. She enjoyed traveling with her daughters on cruises to Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Alaska. She also traveled to Hawaii, England, Scotland and Paris; and enjoyed many bus tours with friends throughout the US.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edwin in 1994, two brothers Gail, and Lloyd Harris; three sisters Alice Burkhardt, Vera Mae Winfrey, and Rose Hall. She is survived by her brother, Elvin Harris (Henrietta), Plains, her daughters, Priscilla Taggart, Wichita, Kay Hatfield (Jimmy), Fayetteville AR, Billie Keller (Allen), Wellington, Jolyn Apsey (Joe), Wichita and Sonja Sutherland (Mitch), McPherson. Grandchildren, Stacha, Shannon, Robyn, Lori, Kyle, Adam, Erin, Allison, Evan, Ryan, Tracee, Jayme, Cody and Brad. Great-Grandchildren, Felicia, Skyler, Austin, Logan, Anna, Jackson, Olivia, Violet, Makayla, Isaac, Easton, Carter, Carson, Brooke, Paige, Mason and Axel. A Great-Great-Grandson Waylon is expected in April 2022. Sister-in-Law, Samantha Stuck (Junior), Cushing, OK. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and family members.

Ruby Mae Stevens - July 20, 1924 - March 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Ruby Mae Stevens, 97, of Liberal passed away on Thursday March 10, 2022 at the Wheatridge Care Center.
She was born July 20,1924 in Domby, OK to James R and Sarah Edna Kulow.
Ruby and Jessie Clifton "JC" Stevens were married on February 18, 1946 at the First Christian Church of Liberal where they resided for the rest of their lives and had been married 64 years. JC preceded her in death on September 10, 2009.
Ruby grew up on a farm in Beaver county Oklahoma and graduated from Turpin high School in 1943 where she was the salutatorian of her class. She then went to American Business college in Wichita in received her certificate for a secretarial course. After returning home she worked at beech aircraft during WWII, where she met her husband who was in the Army Air Corps at the base in Liberal, and they would meet at the fountain everyday at lunch. JC and Ruby attended the Assembly of God Church and Ruby worked with JC at his business, Liberal Quick Print as bookkeeper. She loved traveling to the Rocky Mountains every summer. Ruby was a dedicated wife and mother to her four children and loved her family more than anything. She loved the Lord and praised Him everyday.
Ruby is survived by daughter Debra (Chris) Miller, Kansas City, MO, son Randy (Kamie) Stevens, Mannford, OK and  nephew, James R Kulow lll,  Liberal,KS, Grandsons Matthew (Samantha) Cranford, Kansas City, MO Devin (Gina) Miller, Granddaughters Keara (Jeromy) Harrison, Mannford OK, Brandy (Sebastian) Meeks, Yukon, OK, Denita (Bret) Young, Dodge City, KS, Ashley (Tanner) Williams, Stillwater, OK; five great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons David W Stevens and Larry M Stevens,  twin brother James R Kulow, Ralph Kulow, Effie Lindenmuth, Edith Bartel, Ethel Neil, and Orville Kulow.
Viewing will be 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday March 16, 2022 at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.       Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Thursday March 17, 2022 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.   Burial will take place in the Liberal City Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Lovola B. Eatmon, 89, of Liberal, KS passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Liberal Good Samaritan Center.   Lovola was born on October 6, 1932 to Fred and Eddie (Day) Baker at Pickens, AR.
She married Robert Lee Eatmon; Robert preceded her in death.   Lovola worked at Southwest Medical Center from 1972 until 1995 as a Laundry Tech for 23 years. Lovola was the back bone of the family. She enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, making hummingbird cake & poundcake, listening to her children sing the gospel, reading her bible and having fun with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Bible Way COGIC where she was an Usher for many years. Lovola was known and loved by many!   Lovola is survived by her seven Daughters; Jessie Taylor of Liberal, KS, Stella Eatmon of Liberal, KS, Fanny Mae Pugh and husband Herman of Milwaukee, WI, Jessie Mae Clay and husband Joe of Marion, AR, Bobbie Rae Eatmon of Liberal, KS, Marceline Byrd of Liberal, KS, Eddie Mae Houston and husband Nathaniel of Liberal, KS; Two Sons, Robert Lee Eatmon and wife Ida of Liberal, KS, Solomon Eatmon of Wichita, KS; 24 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, sister Freda Mae Davis of Wichita, and a host of Nieces & Nephews.   She was also preceded in death by her daughter Ruby Lee Watson, son Arthur Lee Eatmon, 2 grandsons; Earl  Watson, Larry Byrd; 2 granddaughters; Tykesha Miller, Alexis Fisher, her parents, sister Maple Washington, brother Isaiah Baker, brother James Baker.

Naomi  attended school at Okeene High School. Naomi worked at several places in Liberal, including the A&W, the Senior Center, and as a homemaker.  She enjoyed camping, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mark Massoni - August 28, 1949 - March 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mark Richard Massoni, 72, of Turpin, OK., passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Springfield, MO.
He was born on August 28, 1949 to Jack and Jane (Douglas) Massoni at Liberal, KS.
Mark met Annette Swan of Turpin, OK. In the summer of 1966; on June 10, 1969 they were married at the Turpin Mennonite church near Turpin, OK.
Mark grew up on the rural Kismet farm, immersing himself in the work of the farm and ranch.  He was doing a man’s share of the work by the time he was in junior high school.  Mark graduated from Southwestern Heights High School in 1967.   He attended Kansas State University, Dodge City Community College, and completed the drafting program at Liberal Technical School.  He served six years in the Kansas National Guard from 1970 – 1976.  Mark & Annette lived in several different places, including Newton, KS., Liberal, KS., and Dallas, TX., before returning to Turpin.  Mark’s life’s work was building homes, developing property, and construction management.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Annette, Son, Jordan (Ranee) Massoni of Maryville, TN., Daughter, Hayley (Scott) Cornelison of Camdenton, MO., Brother, Steven (Kelley) Massoni of Tulsa, OK., Two Sisters, Susan (Warren) Fox of Plains, KS., Celia (Jere) Beymer of Billings, MO; Uncles, John Massoni of Sunset, LA., Sam(Nancy) Douglas of Cedar Park, TX., Hugh (Marilyn) Douglas of Sandy, UT;  Aunts, Shirley (Ken) Castle of Lubbock, TX. Joan (Larry) Hall of Kingman, KS. Dorothy Douglas of Overland Park, KS.;  Five Grandsons, Tyler (Nikita) Olomon, Taylor Olomon, Gavin Massoni, Grayson Massoni, Griffin Massoni; Three Granddaughters, Bayley Olomon, Adde Smith, Jaidey Smith, and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lily, & Aubrey.
He was preceded in death by Parents, Sister, Melissa Massoni, Grandparents, Floyd & Mildred Massoni, and Floyd and Pauline Douglas, his uncles, John Volz & Gene Douglas and aunts, Sharon Massoni & Caren Douglas.
There will be no viewing as cremation was entrusted to Miller Mortuary.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 4:00 pm at the Turpin United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Player officiating.

Obituary Preview: Joan T. Trahern, 92, of Liberal, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Twin Oaks Manor in Booker, TX.     She was born on December 6, 1929 to Bernard and Mildred (Broscha) Regier at Newton, KS.
On November 14, 1952 she married Dale Trahern in Oklahoma City, OK; he preceded her in death.
Joan grew up in Hesston, KS near Newton, KS. She was a graduate of Newton High School and went on to attend Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. She moved to Plains, KS in 1948 where she was a second grade school teacher. While living in Plains she met Dale Trahern; whom she later married. In 1970 she and Dale moved from Cushing, OK to Liberal, KS. Joan worked as a Bookkeeper for Holiday Inn, Tradewinds, and Liberal Truck Service. She was a previous member of the Eastern Star and numerous bridge clubs throughout the years. Joan was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing bridge, reading, stitching, plus started quilting when she was 78. She also enjoyed antiquing, genealogy, playing games & cards with her grandkids and great grandkids. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal. Joan is survived by her Two Daughters, Cindy Trentham and husband James of Balko, OK, Rhonda Trahern of Winfield, KS; Sister, Gail Grimm of Rose Hill, KS; Four Grandchildren, Katherine Denise Tully of Tahlequah, OK, Carrie Trentham of Henderson, NV, Danielle Salinas and husband Elijah of Colorado Springs, CO, and Matthew Trentham and wife Antoinette of Balko, OK; 11 Great Grandchildren.   She was also preceded in death by her parents, Son, Doug Trahern, Sister, Leah Welsh, and Sister, Rachel Penner.     Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Miller Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Todd Carr, officiating.   Burial will take place in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.   Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS. 67905-0826

Obituary Preview: Gene Wilfred King, 85, passed on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Beaver County Memorial Hospital, Beaver, OK after several years of bad health.
He was born March 3, 1936, in Beaver County, OK, to Rufus & Hazel (Matkin) King.
Gene was raised on the family farm near Turpin, OK until his family moved to Liberal, KS while he was in grade school. Gene graduated from Liberal High School in 1954 and then attended his freshman year at Kansas State University. He transferred to Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK and continued his education. After two years, he decided to serve his country and enlisted in the United State Army, serving four years of active and three years of reserve duty. He completed his basic training at Fort Carson, CO, completed his mechanical training at Ft. Dix, NJ and served his time as a Nike Missile repair technician at Ft. McArthur, San Pedro, CA. After completing his active duty, Gene returned to OPSU to complete his education in mathematics and agriculture. While there, he met the love of his life, Joan Watson, who became his wife on March 30, 1961. When they finished college, they moved to the family farm and began a lifelong pursuit of farming and ranching. In addition to his agricultural interests, Gene thoroughly enjoyed fishing, especially in Colorado, collecting, and was an active reader of farm journals, newspapers, collector magazines and history books. Family and friends, especially those from high school, were important to him.
Gene is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Joan King, daughter LuAnn Hill (Joe) of Winfield, KS, daughter Tara Kirkhart (Roger) of Turpin OK, son Marlon King (Michalle) of Wichita, KS and daughter Jackie Depew (Daren) of Beaver, OK, his sister JoAnn Sharp of Liberal, KS, sister Jan King of Scottsdale, AZ, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren with 2 more expected soon.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Rufus King, his mother, Hazel King, his sisters Sammy Lane Cope, Carol Lea Roberts, and infant brother Rufus Alroy King.
There will be no public viewing.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Turpin United Methodist Church in Turpin, OK.
Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, KS.

Obituary Preview: Jamison G. Lewis, 47, of Liberal, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.     He was born on December 27, 1974 to James and Gwendolyn (Dunlap) Lewis at Liberal, KS.
Jamison attended Liberal High School where he played Football; he was a class of 1993 graduate. Jamison went on to study Social Work through Butler County Community College,from which he graduated from in 1995. After college he moved to Norfolk, VA to play football and then returned back to his hometown. Jamison went to work at National Beef Packing Co in 1997. In 2000 he went to work for Seward County as a Sergeant and later transferred to Court Services; he was with Seward County for a little over 20 years. He was currently a Security Officer at Seward County Community College. He participated in leadership classes for LEAD, a program that he was very passionate about. Jamison enjoyed working with Liberal's youth and was also a coach with the city recreational league. He also enjoyed fishing, watching football, shooting at the shooting range, but most of all, Jamison loved being with his wife and family. Jamison was an ordained Elder at Bibleway C.O.G.I.C., where he taught Sunday School and grew spiritually in God's word.   Jamison is survived by his loving wife Tawanda, Two Daughters, Mercedes Adams of Liberal, KS, Briana Adams of Liberal, KS; Mother, Gwendolyn Dunlap Lewis of Liberal, KS; Two Brothers, Eddie Lewis and wife Kodi of Omaha, NE, Jordan Richard Nicolas "Nicki"  Lewis and wife Benita of Hutchinson, KS; Two Sisters, Stefanie Lewis and husband Pablo of Williston, ND, Mia Jones and husband Russell of Atlanta, GA; a host of many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.   He was preceded in death by Father, James Arthur Lewis, Grandfather, Richard Dunlap, Sr. and Aunt, Tina Dunlap.   Viewing will be 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday, February 18, 2022, at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas.       Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 19, 2022  at the First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal.   Burial will take place in the Liberal City Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Roger Gene Lamcke, 94, of Liberal, Kansas died Friday, February 4, 2022 at Southwest Medical Center.
He was born October 25, 1927 at Climbing Hill, Iowa, the son of Ira and Margarite (Day) Lamcke.
He was married to Marion Johnson from 1948 to 1968 having two daughters from this marriage, Linda and Brenda. On November 2, 1969 he married Faye (Smith) White at Forgan, OK; from which he gained four more kids, Tony, Kenny, Leisa, and Jerry. Faye preceded Roger in death in 2009.   Roger was a graduate of Climbing Hill High School; class of 1945. While in High School he played basketball and loved the game until the end of his days. He worked most of his life in the Beef Packing Industry and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for National Beef Packing Co. in Liberal, Kansas. A Christian throughout his life, Roger was Baptized and Confirmed in Sioux City, Iowa during the month of June 1962.
His survivors include Three Daughters, Linda Jungferman of Portland, OR, Brenda Cline of Aurora, CO, and Leisa Williams of Bradenton, FL,; Two Sons, Tony (Janet) Keeth of Smyer, TX, and Jerry (Beth) White of Forgan, OK; Nephews, Howard Lamcke, Vernon Lamcke, Bill Fuson, and Bruce McCall; Grandchildren, Josh, Hannah, Jennifer, Jessica, Julie, Jocelyn, Jesse, Jerrad, and Whitney; 16 Great Grandchildren.
Roger was also preceded in death by his Parents, Son, Kenny Keeth; Son-In-Laws, Steve Jungferman. Andre Cline, and Jeff Williams; Grandchildren, Brandee, Brandon, and Bradley Williams.
As requested per Roger's family, there will be no viewing and a private burial will be held.

Frank L. Challis - August 29, 1946 - January 29, 2022

Obituary Preview: In loving memory of Frank L. Challis, 75, who passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 as a result of Covid, at his home in Liberal. He was born on August 29, 1946 in Geary, OK, the son of Oran and Betty (Smith) Challis. His biological father was Frank “Swede” Henderson; Oran Challis adopted Frank at a young age. While Frank became a Challis through and through, he remained fond of his birth family as well.  Frank graduated from Geary High School, class of 1965. He then went on to obtain a BA in English and a Masters of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Frank started his professional career by teaching high school in Weleetka, OK and then Henryetta, OK.  Next, he moved on to the university level teaching college classes at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. In 1976, Frank became employed as an instructor for Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS, where he remained for the rest of his career. During his tenure at SCCC, he was a speech instructor and director of drama/theater. After 38 years in education, 33 years at SCCC, Frank retired in 2009 but continued working part time through the SCCC Business & Industry programs until 2016.
Frank had a love for theater, especially musical productions, and enjoyed designing sets and stage costumes. For many years he had a side business providing costumes for stage productions and holiday parties which was well known regionally. Frank cared deeply for his mother. He shared a home with her, where she lived for many years until her death in 2007. In retirement, Frank loved decorating his home for the holidays and would invite friends over to view his creations. He treasured seeing his many former students and had many lifelong friends around town in Liberal and among his coworkers at SCCC. Frank enjoyed morning coffee and lively discussions with friends at McDonalds, Burger King and lately at Braum's. Frank is survived by his brother, Michael Challis and wife Beth, of Oklahoma City, OK; nephew, Samuel Oran Challis of Oklahoma City, OK; niece, Claire Elaine Boyd of Norman, OK; grandniece, Lucy Jo Boyd; grandnephew, Bennett Ray Boyd; and Frank’s two beloved dogs, Zander and BZ Bee.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oran and Betty Challis and nephew, Berkeley Elliott Challis.
There will be no viewing, as cremation has taken place.

She enjoyed collecting bear figurines, driving Rc rock crawlers, listening to music, making homemade jewelry and loved spending time with her family. Obituary Preview: Betty Jane Buchanan died Friday, January 14, 2022 at her home in Liberal, KS.
She was born January 21, 1937 to Hazel (Garrett) and Jess Buchanan in Liberal.
Betty graduated high school in Liberal and went on to attend Northwest Texas Hospital, Amarillo, TX where she graduated as a diploma RN in 1957. She started her nursing career at Epworth Hospital in Liberal and later retired from Southwest Medical Center. She then went on to work 10 years as an Occupational Health Nurse for National Beef Packing.  Betty Jane was a dedicated nurse all her life.  She truly loved nurses and nursing.  She was also a fierce patient advocate regardless of the consequences to her. For those of us privileged to know and work with her, she raised the nursing standard and was willing to teach and show others how to attain this.
She is survived by a multitude of friends, who will miss her, and her little dog, Sugar.
Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday March 26th at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.

He was a member of New Community Missionary Baptist Church and Black History Committee. He enjoyed gardening, collecting coins, horses, motorcycles, working out, watching westerns and animal shows. He also enjoyed taking the kids on long walks, his pets and listening to music.     Max is survived by his loving spouse of 56 years Ruth, Two Daughters, Maxine Phelps Carpenter of Beaver, OK, Stephanie Phelps Champagne of Duncanville, TX; Son, Brian Phelps and Wife Stephanie of Broken Arrow, OK; Five Grandchildren, Candace Goitia, Kiana Goitia, Jordan Phelps, Tierra Phelps, and Leilah Champagne; Six Great Grandchildren, Ileyah Ross-Goitia, Mekhi Goitia, Imauri Eikenberry, Ivilyss Chau, Monae Chau, and Ilijah Orozco; Sister Helen Wilson of Detroit, MI and many Nieces and Nephews.     He was preceded in death by Father, Andrew Phelps, Mother, Myrtis Phelps; Sister, Audrey Mae Baker; Brother Leroy Phelps, and Niece Kathy Temple.    There will not be a Visitation held.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Joycelyn, Three Sons, Lawrence "Steve" Stephens, Jr. and wife Jackie of South Fork, CO, Tracey Stephens of South Fork, CO, Charles J. He was an active member in the Fellowship Baptist Church bus ministry.    David is survived by Two Daughters, April Buell and Husband Clyde of El Paso, TX, Rachel Booth and Husband Seth of Liberty Hill, TX,; Son, Matthew Yourdan and Wife Erika of Ovalo, TX; Seven Grandchildren (soon to be Eight!); Sister, Sally Stiles and Husband Tom of Yale, MI; Brother, Larry Yourdan of Sandusky, MI; Sister in-Law Grace Yourdan of Imperial, MO; Along with several Nieces and Nephews.

On March 16, 1976 she married Jimmie D. Manning at Tyrone, OK: he preceded her in death on December 13, 2009.
Barbara was a graduate of Pratt High School in Pratt, KS. She worked with USD480 of Liberal, KS for 32 years. During her years with USD480 she held many positions including Secretary & Cheer Coach for 10 years at South Middle School. She was Paraprofessional at Cottonwood Elementary working with special needs children; she had been learning Sign Language to help assist the children she worked with. Barbara looked forward to receiving Coach Handbags from her kids. She enjoyed playing bingo, shopping with her best friend Mona Schwindt, was an avid reader. She loved children and enjoyed working with them. She was an important part of all of her Nieces & Nephews lives. Barbara was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Liberal.

On November 18, 1961 she married Larry Edmond Bryan at the First Christian Church in Liberal, KS. They lived in many places after getting married while Larry was working in the oil industry before moving back to Tyrone to work on the family farm in 1967. Larry preceded Judy in death on July 15, 2021.
Judy enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, and baking Pumpkin Bread for her loved ones. She loved to spend time with her family, especially being "Mamo" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Judy took great pride in being a farmer's wife and homemaker.
Judy is survived by Two Sons, Darrell W Bryan of Tyrone, OK, Eric E Bryan of Tyrone, OK; Daughter, Amy E Mosburg of Neosho, MO; Two Brothers, Jerry H.
