Obituary Preview: Mason Corban Kilby, 71, of Roaring River, NC passed away on May 19, 2024, at his home. He was met at the gates of heaven by his loving wife, Rachel Lail Kilby.
Mason attended North Wilkes High School and worked for Pneumafil Corporation for over 20 years before his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, NASCAR and especially Dale Earnhardt Sr, and fixing things in the most untraditional ways. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where Pastor Larry Teague baptized him in August of 2019.
Mason was survived by his daughters Lisa (Tim) Ramsey and Donna (Willi) Matava, grandchildren Courtney, Landon and Briana, his sister Carol Elledge and many nieces and nephews. He was very close to his nephew Pastor Larry Teague who shared his love of coffee and his niece Barlena Combs and her children that he fondly nicknamed Neutron, Queenie, Squirrel and Corban.
Mason was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Lail Kilby, his parents Gaither Thomas and Ella Shumate Kilby, his brothers Roy Lee Kilby, Nonnie Edward Kilby and Thomas Gaither Kilby, his sisters Betty Jo Cleary, Margie Celeste Teague, and Nancy Maryann Sprinkle.
A funeral will be held at 12pm Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Teague officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 on Wednesday, prior to the service.

Obituary Preview: Carl Alvin Faw, age 97, of Millers Creek, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at his home. He was born May 26, 1926, in Wilkes County to Andrew Faw and Rovertie Parsons Faw. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He was a faithful member of Millers Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, when he was younger. He was also the eldest active member of the church. He worked for Church & Church Lumber for over 60 years. He loved gardening, sitting on the front porch, and especially going to Bojangles, to sit and have coffee with his friends. He found a second home and family at Bojangles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Maggie Neece Faw; his sisters, Marie Martin and Parlea Staley; and brothers, Earl Faw and Burl Faw. His daughter, Martha Shumate and son in law, Randy Shumate; his son, Mike Faw; and granddaughter, Jennifer Shumate Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Faw, children, Carolyn (Michael) Shumate, Brenda Day (Philip Broyhill), Patricia Wingler, and Scottie Faw. Grandchildren, Renee Shumate, Sandy Romero, Jessica Faw, Zane Faw, Heather Faw, Chase Shumate, Brandon Day, Shawn Day, Brandy Wingler, Joshua Faw and Adam Faw. He had twenty-three great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. He also had four stepchildren, ten step-grandchildren, and nineteen step-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Miller Funeral Chapel with Pastor Shannon Critcher and Pastor Jim Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2024.

Gary Wayne "Pops" Church - March 04, 1957 - May 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: Gary Wayne Church “Pops”, 67, of North Wilkesboro, passed away on May 17th, 2024. A heart attack took him from this Earth too soon, but his gentle soul and infectious smile will never be erased from the minds and hearts of his family and friends.
Gary was born on March 4th, 1957, to Wayne and Margaret Church. His parents, along with his brother Jeff, were certainly all waiting for him with arms wide open at the gates of Heaven.
Gary was a star athlete for the North Wilkes High School varsity football team. After graduating from high school, he worked several years for the Charlotte Observer before starting his own HVAC company, Gary Church Heating & Air. He was never afraid of hard work and getting his hands dirty. He worked long hours to provide for his family, doing the work he loved. He met many amazing friends along the way…ones he kept for a lifetime. Gary retired in 2019 and spent his remaining days building his man cave/treehouse and taking care of his rental properties. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
While his accomplishments were great, Gary found the most joy in spending time with his family. He loved to spend quality time with his kids and watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and dance. Often times you would find him cheering them on from the sidelines. Many weeknights and weekends Gary could be found at the local watering holes singing karaoke and enjoying life with Malinda.
Left to cherish him in memory is his loving wife of 22 years, Malinda; his children: Dustin (Amber), Ashley (Kenneth), and Adrian; and his bonus children: Karen (Jay), Jessica (Emerson), and Robby (Ashley). Gary had 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who deeply loved their Pops. His family will miss his presence for the rest of their days.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Journey of Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Pruitt and Pastor Benny Romans officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm.

Born on July 8, 1942, to William Arthur Groce, Sr., and Maude Pinnix Groce, John Henry was a beloved member of the community, and a faithful member of the Wilkesboro United Methodist Church.
Throughout his life, John Henry embraced various hobbies including sport shooting, hunting, yoga, and walking, which kept him active and connected to his friends and neighbors. His commitment to the Wilkesboro United Methodist Church was unwavering; he served faithfully in numerous capacities, embodying the spirit of community and faith for over eight decades.
John Henry was known for his positive outlook on life, often responding with a heartfelt "I am blessed" whenever asked how he was doing. His kind demeanor and generous spirit touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his community involvement, John Henry was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took immense pride in his family and cherished every moment spent with them.
John Henry is survived by his two children, Patrick Scott Groce (Terri) of Wilkesboro, NC, and Julie Groce of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsay Groce Ward (Drew) of North Wilkesboro, Stacey Groce Neece (Ben) of Wilkesboro, Graylan Groce (Aubrey) of North Wilkesboro, Max Groce of Sylva, NC, Allison Gaw of Dallas, TX, and Gage Meeks of Dallas, TX. Additionally, he leaves behind his greatgrandchildren: Clayton Ward, Canaan Ward, Vivian Neece, Georgia Neece, Henry Groce, Harper Groce, Holly Groce, Hudson Groce, and Riley Rivera.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Lakey and Pastor Kim Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church from 1:00 until 2:00 on Tuesday prior to the service.

Ingool and Erta Richardson Ingool. He was an Army Veteran and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church; he loved and served Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. He worked as a truck driver for Holly Farms/Tyson, driving over 500,000 miles for which he received a Driver Safety Award. Woodworking and gardening were some of his hobbies and he loved his children and grandsons and great granddaughters. He rescued a pug mix named Sugar, who misses him very much. Preceding him in death are his parents, spouse of 59 years, whom he loved, Lillie Lou McCrary Ingool, and sister, Josephine “Jo” Ingool Gabriel.

Jerry was a US Army Veteran, he received an Associates Degree in Electronic Engineering and retired after 37 years with Sears as a technician. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church for over 60 years. Jerry loved his church. He was a deacon, choir director, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Director. Jerry received an Associates Degree in Music Ministry, was a volunteer fireman with Goshen Fire Department and a member of Wilkes County Cruisers with his 1953 Studebaker Commander. He was an avid golfer and golfed weekly. He also loved working on his Studebaker, tinkering with electronics and appliances. What he loved the most, was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters; and two brothers.

Kyra is preceded in death by her parents and 4 siblings, by her late husbands, James Edward Baker of Independence, VA and Jason Ring of Lansing, NC and by her grandson, Austin Ring of Indian Trail, NC.
Kyra was a hard worker and was determined to make her own way. Kyra worked for a number of years at Sprague and managed Western Steer in Wilkesboro and a McDonalds in Taylorsville, before opening Kyra's Beauty Shop in her home in Warrensville where she did hair for almost 50 years. Customers could get a nice haircut and friends would come and spend hours chatting, laughing, and hearing Kyra share about her faith in God. In her later years, Kyra frequently worked multiple part-time jobs and liked to keep busy around her home.
Kyra was spunky, fun-loving, smart, independent, friendly and had a passion for telling others about God. She enjoyed playing Rook and Skip-Bo, line dancing, shooting guns, working in her flower garden, watching NFL football, and reading her Bible. She also loved having all her family at her home for Christmas to play games and give out funny gifts. Kyra made friends everywhere she went and was well loved in her community. Out of all of her accomplishments, her greatest one was raising 4 children to be generous and caring adults.

Throughout her life, Helen enjoyed reading, cooking, and gardening. She was generous with book recommendations, cooking lessons, and gardening tips-although no one could quite master her fried chicken and gravy.
Helen was generous with her time. She was actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives throughout childhood and into adulthood, helping to shape them into the people they are today. For many years, she serves as a Sunday School teacher at Zion Methodist Church in Mill Creek, NC. Helen was a friendly, welcoming presence in her community, who created connections with her neighbors.

He is survived by his father Boonie Shell of Wilkesboro, mother, Relta Shell McClure of North Wilkesboro, two sisters, April Shell (Todd) and Cristal Shell Prince (Jason), both of Wilkesboro, and three nieces, Amber Myers, Meredith Clawson, and Lauren Clawson, all of Wilkesboro, who will cherish his memory forever. Bradley's love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Bradley's life will be held on Monday, April 29, at 3:00 PM at Miller Funeral Service, with viewing taking place at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at Edgewood Baptist Church immediately following the service. Flowers will be accepted as well as plants & vegetables to fill his memorial garden, the one he looked forward to planting this spring.
