Free time in her youth was spent ice skating, cross-country skiing and bicycling, eventually pedaling across Norway upon graduating high school. She became employed on an Air Base in Gardermoen, Norway where she and Fred Sr met during his service in the United States Air Force. Raymond Killen - April 08, 1937 - March 27, 2024

Departed: 03/27/2024 (Somerset)
Obituary Preview: Raymond Henry Killen passed away March 27, 2024 at his home near Seven Springs at the age of 86. Ray got to spend quality time with his family all the way to the end, especially on St.Patrick’s Day weekend where he was celebrated.
Ray leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years Rebecca. Ray’s oldest children with his first wife, Patricia Barker are Ray Killen (wife Kristie), Michael Killen (wife Robin) and Bridget Mitchell (husband Kevin). Ray and Rebecca’s three children are Adam Killen (wife Candice), Katey Siluma (husband Sandile) and Noah Killen (wife Taylor). Ray has eight grandchildren, Sophie Mitchell, Keenan Mitchell, Erin Killen, Ian Killen, Nicholas Killen, Lucas Killen, Lilah Killen, Ryley Siluma and one great grandchild, Mitchell Shanesy. Also left behind is Rebecca’s mother Sibyl Ruffing (husband Don) and sister Jennifer Kline (husband Michael), who were very important people in his life.
Ray grew up in Morningside, a Pittsburgh neighborhood, born to Stephen Raymond Killen and Catherine (Thomas) Killen. He is also survived by his older sister Lois Held and her three daughters Kathy Schmidt, Kris Limetti and Karen Leornard who all laughed with him just days before he passed. Lois’s husband John Held preceded him in death. Ray was an original member of famed youth football team the Morningside Bulldogs, graduated Central Catholic High School and went into the Navy before graduating from Carnegie Tech, majoring in Printing Management.
Ray’s business career began utilizing his degree by working at Heinz and Herrmann Printing but eventually he leaned into being an entrepreneur and started a travel business, a trucking distribution company and the windshield repair company Dr. Glass, which was ahead of its time. He designed and patented a device to dry cars and clean glass, called the “Cham Easy” where he traveled the country selling it at car and home shows for the last 20 years.
Ray had a passion for traveling, sailing, skiing, St. Patrick’s day, Emerald Isle, NC, Jimmy Buffet Concerts, Kingston Trio, and the Steelers (being a season ticket holder since 1970). He’d welcome anyone with a warm smile, prayed daily for a long list of loved ones (including cats and dogs) and always loved you more than expected. Ray always had a twinkle in his eye and could make anyone laugh by cracking a joke or telling a great story from his amazing life experiences. "I am not the body. I am the Eternal Spirit dwelling temporarily in this vehicle of flesh. It’s all the working out of good." (hand written in his notebook)

Departed: 03/02/2024 (Somerset)
Obituary Preview: Ronald L. Schrock, 73, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024. He was born on November 24, 1950, to the late Clark and Betty (Cassler) Schrock. Ron was a devoted husband, father, and brother, and his passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alyce Gneuhs, and brother, Whitey Schrock. Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Susan (Saylor) Schrock; his daughter, Krista (Paul) Bennett, of Los Angeles; his son, Derek Schrock, of Pittsburgh; his siblings, Clark Schrock, of New Jersey, and Joseph Schrock, of Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ron was a man of extraordinary intellect and achievement. He pursued his academic passions at Franklin and Marshall for his undergraduate studies and continued his education at Dartmouth University, where he earned his Master’s degree in Geology. Despite his impressive academic background, Ron remained humble, often describing himself as an “educated hick.” Following his studies, Ron founded Geo Chemical Testing company in Somerset, where he applied his expertise in geology to great success. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to acquire Miller Apple Orchard, embarking on a new and rewarding adventure. Ron took great pride in his apple cider and also found joy in custom woodworking.
An avid skier, Ron spent many memorable days on the slopes and shared his passion as a ski instructor at Hidden Valley Ski Resort, where he worked alongside his daughter for several years. Beyond his professional and athletic pursuits, Ron was a lifelong lover of dogs. He firmly believed that anyone who didn’t love dogs couldn’t be trusted. His cherished dogs, Buzz and Dunkin, were constant companions who will miss his loving presence and his ever-ready supply of cookies.
