Markus "Mark" Benson Sink - July 07, 1948 - April 04, 2022

Departed: 04/04/2022 (Asheboro)
Obituary Preview: Reverend Markus Benson Sink, 73, of Thomasville, went to his eternal home on Monday, April 4th, 2022. ‘’To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord,” 2 Corinthians 5:8.
Mark was born July 7th, 1948 in Randolph County to Joseph Benson “J.B” Sink and Margie Boone Sink.  He grew up in Asheboro and was the oldest of three children.
After graduating from Asheboro High School in 1966, Mark continued his education at Gardner-Webb College, Pembroke State University, Billy Graham School of Evangelism, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mark was a gifted baseball player, All State in high school and All American in college.  He was inducted in the AHS Hall of Fame for baseball and football. Mark was a center fielder for the 1966 Randolph County Post 45 North Carolina State Champions. He went on to play semi-pro baseball for the Shenandoah Valley Baseball League of Virginia. Mark served in the United States Army Reserves.
On March 1, 1968, Mark married his high school sweetheart, Sally Oglesby. Their 52 year journey together took them on many adventures.  Sally was the love of his life. They had a strong partnership and were there for each other, in sickness and in health, until Sally’s passing in June of 2020.
In 1978, Mark was a founder and charter member of Cross Road Baptist Church in Asheboro.  What began with 4 families, grew to a group of 24 people who came together with a vision for a new church in Randolph County.  Their goal was to take the good news of Christ to our community.  This continued to be Mark’s mission throughout his life.
God called Mark to ministry and he was ordained at Oakhurst Baptist Church in 1978. He was a Baptist preacher (bi-vocational and full time) for over 40 years, serving the following churches: Interim pastor for Greystone Baptist (Asheboro), Spoons Chapel Christian Church (Asheboro), and Mt. Carmel Baptist (Troy); Full time pastor for Peace Baptist (Whiteville), Macedonia Baptist (Liberty), Park Place Baptist (Thomasville), and retired from full time ministry in 2018 from Lankford Memorial Baptist (Greensboro). Mark also served as prison chaplain for Columbus County Correctional (Whiteville). He was a deacon at Armfield Heights Baptist, Oakhurst Baptist, Cross Road Baptist, and Evangelism Director and deacon at Trinity Baptist. He served on committees for the Piedmont, Liberty, Randolph, and Columbus Associations, as well as the North Carolina Lay Witness Foundation. He also served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity and was a chaplain volunteer at Thomasville Medical Center.  Mark was faithful to go and serve where God called him.
Mark loved watching Andy Griffith and classic westerns. He enjoyed time spent in the NC mountains and SC coast. He admired God’s handiwork in nature. Mark could grow plentiful vegetable gardens, never passed up a good banana pudding, and understood the importance of Sunday naps. He had a love for all animals, and his cat, Lilly, was a companion and great source of joy for many years.
Mark was an avid sports fan and took pride in attending his grandson and granddaughter’s soccer matches. He had a passion for the game of golf, both playing and watching. But greater than his passion for sports, was his desire for reaching those who did not know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mark had a burden for the lost and wanted to share the Gospel with all people.
Mark was faithful to sing in the choir and enjoyed listening to gospel music.  His favorite songs were “Victory in Jesus” and “Sweet Beulah Land.” He studied the Bible and was especially fond of Philippians Chapter 4.
Mark was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, pastor, and friend of many.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally Oglesby Sink, father, J.B. Sink, and brother, Tim Sink.
Mark is survived by his son, Jason Sink (daughter-in-law, Stephanie) of High Point, daughter, Anna Lowe (son-in-law, Todd) of Asheboro, two grandchildren, Max Lowe and Maggie Lowe of Asheboro, mother, Margie Sink of Asheboro, sister, Donna Allen (brother-in-law, Doug) of Asheboro, and a host of dearly loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former church members.
The Sink family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Thomasville Medical Center, Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, and Hospice of the Piedmont for the compassionate care they provided to Mark.
