Obituary Preview: Clayton was born to Lawrence and Kathryn (Wiedenmann) Ricker in Rossville, Iowa, on June 30, 1931.
In fourth grade, Clayton began working at the Feuerhelm Truck Body Shop. His first job was to paint the new wood on the hay/grain wagon wheel spokes with red lead paint, since metal for wheels was prioritized to support the war effort in WWII. Years later, Clay pulled a new wagon behind his Studebaker to the Iowa State Fair as a sales promotion. He graduated from Waukon High in 1949, where he earned letters in baseball, basketball, and was the ping pong champ. He met his wife in high school when the principal said, “Hey Clayton, Audrey is sick and you’ve got a car, you need to give her a ride home.” He enlisted in the Navy on March 16, 1951 and served aboard the USS Orca, a sea-plane tender, during the Korean Conflict. Clayton married Audrey Mae Christensen on July 27, 1952. Their son, Dennis, was born two years later, while still in Waukon. Audrey moved to San Diego after Dennis was born, awaiting Clayton’s return from overseas. He finally got to meet his son when Dennis was a year and 9 months old. Audrey’s sister said that Audrey's sole purpose in life at that time "was to keep Dennis alive until Clayton got off the ship."
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as an Electronics Technician Second Class, after 4 years, 11 months, 27 days.
His career with AT&T began in Des Moines, Iowa, and then moved throughout the West in Arizona & Colorado with various assignments in coax cable routes, microwave radio sites, as a civilian/military communication liaison to the Air Force at Cheyenne Mountain, and finally as a specialist in the implementation and construction of fiber optic routes from New Mexico thru Arizona, to California.
As Dennis grew up, Clayton became actively involved in Boy Scouting during the time the family lived in Arizona and Colorado. He filled the Scoutmaster positions and started new Troops when one wasn’t available.
Baseball was a sport that he knew well and Clay volunteered as a coach for Little League. He also served on community water boards, square dancing clubs, and Lutheran church councils.
Clayton and Audrey retired to Strawberry, Arizona, in 1988 where he built a home of his own design.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Audrey Ricker; son, Dennis Ricker (Patricia); grandson, Jared Ricker; granddaughter, Brett (Charlie) Renfro; great grandchildren, Hilde and Helga Renfro; and sister, Barbara (Arne) Grangaard.

Edna Louise Pimental - June 01, 1930 - February 22, 2024

Departed: 02/22/2024 (Payson)
Obituary Preview: Edna Louise Pimental entered into rest on February 22, 2024 in Payson at the age of 93. She was born June 1, 1930 in Madison, Illinois to Helen (Schoffra) Lofland and Albert Lofland. She was raised in St. Louis, Missouri, worked at Western Union and U.S. Steel until 1960 when she relocated to Southern California. She worked at Alcoa and Rome Cable, then moved to San Jose working at Fairchild Semiconductor and National Semiconductor retiring in 1996 and relocating to Payson.
Her hobbies were crochet, bridge, and genealogy. She loved Big Band music and in her younger years was very active in Ballroom and Jitterbug dance contests.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley Thrasher and Mildred Votoupal, brother Dale, sisters in-law Darline (Dale), Penny (Richard), Brother-in-law Glenn (Patricia) and her many pets. She is survived by sisters Barbara Spreck and Patricia Pavlick and brother Richard Lofland. Also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, nephew/Godson Kris Pavlick.
Per Edna: "This is my last attempt to get help for all the pets that are not treated with love and human companionship. 75% of all adopted pets are adopted by people who should never be allowed to adopt. My plea is to all the kind and loving pet owners who don't report because there is no one out there to help with abuse/cruelty. I knew it was a reality, but until I was forced to witness it it really didn't set in. When renters moved into the house behind me I found out how cruel some people can be.
Loving dogs were caged up inside/outside10-12 hours daily and weekends 24/72 hours, most of the time without water. One renter told me they were 'just dogs' and to mind my own business. Owners were very seldom outside with the dogs and when they were the dogs were ignored, and weeds, dirt, bugs, and piled up poop since day one were also ignored. After being exposed to this treatment for 3-4 years, my health went downhill from the stress. I reported but found no one that would help, not the house owner, landlord, Humane Society, Animal Control, or anyone else who was contacted. I witnessed one Animal Control person trying to rescue a cat caught between a fence and a partition placing a pole around the cat's neck (instead of waist) and jerked up killing the cat. Removal of claws, vocal cords, chopping off ears, etc. should all be outlawed. Vets can and should refuse to perform these types of surgeries on God's precious animals.
My plea to all PET LOVERS - keep bombarding officials with phone calls until someone with intelligence wakes up to the reality of animal abuse/cruelty. Always document what you see and take pictures like I did since 2011. Adoption agencies MUST be forced to follow up each adoption within 3-5 months, with surrounding neighbors, NOT the pet owner".
There will be no service per Edna's request. Donations may be made to Hospice.

James "Jim" Karns - February 13, 1942 - January 26, 2024

Departed: 01/26/2024 (Payson)
Obituary Preview: Jim Karns passed away at his home on Friday, January 26, 2024, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was best known for his long career as a financial planner and accountant, more than thirty of which were spent serving the Payson community.
Before moving to Arizona, Jim was already an accomplished CPA working more than twenty-five years for a prominent Ohio accounting firm. He grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, where he learned to value the beauty of nature and to respect the hard work and bounty that came from working off the land. He maintained a garden most of his life.
He had a lifelong love of mathematics, but his true passions were for nature and the outdoors. He loved to travel and explore and had hiked most of the Arizona trail as well as trails throughout central Arizona’s Mazatzal mountains, Tonto Basin, and the Mogollon Rim. He backpacked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim numerous times. Those who hiked with him knew him as the one who loved to go “off-trail” and he never lost the desire to know what was beyond the next ridge. In his younger years, that same desire to explore led him to travel by van with his wife and children, visiting all but six states in the continental US by the time his children graduated high school.
Music was always an intricate part of his life. A huge Bob Dylan fan, he had acquired a collection of more than 500 tracks from this artist alone. His tastes ranged from classical to new age, country, to pop. He particularly enjoyed discovering more obscure artists and gravitated to ones that were unique or that told a story.
Jim is survived by his wife of sixty years, his son and daughter, his five grandchildren, and his sister. A private service will be held for the family at a date to be determined. In place of flowers, please send donations to the compassionate healthcare team at Compassus Hospice of Payson who provided care and comfort to Jim and his family on his final journey.

Growing up Mitch participated in both the Cub and Boy Scouts, proudly keeping his uniforms his entire life. He also joined the Future Farmers of America raising both chickens and cows, it is also where he learned he had a “green thumb” utilizing his gardening skills the rest of his life.
When Mitch was just 19 years old, he met the love of his life Renee Martin. Known for his quiet demeanor, Renee balanced him perfectly with her outgoing, bubbly personality. Together they raised 3 wonderful children, residing most of their early marriage in the small town of Salome, Arizona. Salome was where they made many lifelong friends, making lasting memories throughout the years. Mitch and Renee left Salome for Gilbert, Arizona in the early 90’s where their children attended high school. When the children had grown up, they moved to Snowflake in 2002, where they spent the remainder of their years together.
Mitch had a love for adventure, often finding himself in precarious situations that he always miraculously got himself out of. There was never a dull moment when you were hanging out with Mitch. Whether it was gold panning in the hills of Yavapai County, or rock hunting in the desert of Salome, or fishing in one of his many fishing spots in the White Mountains, you could bet you would come away with a story to tell. Mitch was stubborn, headstrong, ornery, sarcastic, hilarious, truthful, resilient, strong, surprisingly sentimental and a man of very few words. What he didn’t say out loud he expressed with his piercing blue eyes. His one liners never ceased to catch people off guard with their on-point hilarity.
