Obituary Preview: A tribute to our mom from Pam, Debi, and Johnna. Mom was a graduate of East High School in Denver where she met our dad, Jack. They were married in 1949 and moved to Shelton Nebraska in 1958 and began their Nebraska adventure. Mom’s legacy, which we are most proud began with her determination to help the children of Shelton learn to swim. Bev implemented the swimming program with Red Cross at Shelton’s pool. She not only taught us the love and fun of swimming, she taught swimming to two generations of families. We girls also benefitted from her love of that sport and became lifeguards, teachers, and competitors.
Mom and Dad moved back to Denver in 1981. They decided to give Phoenix a try in 1995 with the goal of improving Dad’s failing health. Dad gave it his best shot, yet died in 1997.
Mom continued to enjoy living in Peoria, Az., playing golf with her many friends and celebrating every Christmas with exuberance and always making it special for us, our husbands, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mom and Dad were avid Husker fans and generously supported the Husker football program and had season tickets until 2020. They loved dancing to the many big bands that played at the Elks and Liederkranz clubs in Grand Island. Bev was a lifetime member of PEO and DAR.

Mike was born December 27th, 1966, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Mike loved the water from an early age, and one of his fondest memories was being on the Chesapeake Bay with his mom, Carol, and dad, Bob Jones. At an early age, Mike was inspired by a desire to travel. His father ran the Peugeot Automobile plant in Nigeria for five years. During that time, Mike played polo, met the royal family, rode a camel in Egypt, and spent time in Tunisia. When they left Nigeria, Mike and his family came to the Phoenix area, where Mike excelled at sports, loved listening to Run DMC, and helped his father run bartending schools. It is where Mike learned a love of sales and a gift for talking with people. Mike was an astute businessman who always did what was best for the client, a skill he learned from his father, Robert.
For over two decades, Mike was the dedicated owner and operator of Discount Air Care, where he built a reputation for his honesty, integrity, and exceptional service. In 2019, the Chamber of Commerce awarded Mike the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Mike’s generosity knew no bounds, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. On Friday, May 17th, the family will learn if Mike was awarded the Business Person of the Year, which his peers nominated him at the Chamber.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike will be remembered for his warm heart, infectious laughter, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to his family. He adored his Sunshine, Julie. Mike was Julie’s biggest cheerleader, and together, they lit up a room with their love for each other. He is a devoted father and mentor to Konlin (Donna) Jones, a beloved son to Carole(Dennis) Mortensen, a mentor and teacher to his employees, and a cherished friend to many. Mike also leaves behind his extended family Debbie (Byron) Durham, Linda Jahn, and Joe(Connie)Rosolek.
Mike enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending quality time with his family in his free time. One of Mike’s biggest passions was spending time with his rescue dogs Roscoe, Prancer, and Rocky. Mike would wake up at 3:30am during the summer to walk his buddy, Roscoe. Mike also loved the tiny home recently purchased in Pinetop. It was an opportunity for him, Julie, and the dogs to enjoy the views, reconnect with each other, and be in cooler temperatures. Mike enjoyed life's simple pleasures, especially when he could be with his family. Preceding him in death are his fur buddies Satan, Rosie, Foxy, Sammie, Nougie, Mickey, Chumley, and his father and mentor, Robert Jones.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched.

Gerald Lawrence Colbert - November 08, 1934 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Fountain Hills)
Obituary Preview: Obituary - Gerald L. Colbert (Gerry)
Gerry passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024 surrounded by his family and an amazing staff at the Mayo Clinic. His wife of 61 years, Marge, preceded him in death in 2021. Gerry’s 1952 high school yearbook, The Duluth Cathedral Beacon, described him best, “A cheerful lad with a sparkling smile, if laughter’s important, he’s in style.” Gerry embodied this quote throughout his life, making jokes and bringing laughter to others until his final hours. If ever an 89 year old could be described as a cheerful lad it certainly was Gerry! Per Gerry, there is never any problem in life that can’t be solved with a positive attitude and a little laughter.
Gerry was born November 8, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Michael and Evelyn Colbert. He was the oldest of four boys: Gene, Jack (deceased) and Tom. The family moved to Marquette, MI for a few years but settled in Duluth, Minnesota for Gerry’s formative years.
Following high school at Cathedral, Gerry attended St. John’s University for a year followed by a stint in a steel mill and two years in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Vicenza, Italy and was always grateful to Uncle Sam for funding his European vacation.
Upon his return, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota Duluth, earning a B.A. in Business and Economics. The cheerful lad made the acquaintance of a young co-ed at the neighboring College of St. Scholastica, Marge Forster, which led to a very busy year in 1960. With college degree in hand, he started what would turn into a 37 year career with State Farm Insurance and married Marge which would turn into a very fruitful union.
As Gerry climbed the corporate ladder, Marge raised their six children: Mike (Lauri) Colbert of Denver, CO, Dan (Mira) Colbert of Deer Park, IL, Bill (Marie) Colbert of Cary, IL, Pat (Julia) Colbert of Ponte Vedra, FL, Debra (Brian) Murphy of Wethersfield, CT, and Becky (Andy) Dykstra of Ponte Vedra, FL. Gerry and Marge could not have been prouder of their family. Watching them all graduate from college, get married, and raise wonderful families of their own brought them immense joy. They were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Gerry and Marge moved to Fountain Hills in 1998 and became active members of the community through The Church of the Ascension, the Fountain Hills Men’s Club, volunteer groups and of course their beloved game of bridge. He was a devout Catholic with a servant’s heart and was active in multiple parish ministries. He was also active in the Friends of The Library where he and Marge managed the thriving Book Store. Additionally, he served on the Board at The River of Time Museum where Gerry and Marge ran the popular Christmas sale raising much needed funds for the museum. Gerry also enjoyed helping “the old folks” by teaching a Drivers Safety for Seniors course and by preparing tax returns. He was also active in the Mens Club serving on the Board as President. His community efforts were recognized in 2019 when he was inducted into the Lower Verde Valley Hall of Fame.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 5 from 9:00-10:30 at Messinger Mortuary in Fountain Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd, Fountain Hills, AZ. A private burial service will be held Monday, April 8 at National Memorial Cemetery.
