Obituary Preview: Charles Edward Littles, beloved husband of Sheila (Keeler) Littles, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Holyoke at the age of 62.
Charles was born on June 8, 1959, in St. Petersburg, FL, a son of James Littles and Annie (Jackson) Dyson, he was raised and educated in Holyoke, before becoming a longtime resident of Holyoke.
He worked for several years in the construction field as a mason and a roofer. Charles was a Golden Gloves Boxer in Holyoke during the early eighties and later through practice became a very skilled Chess player, who could dominate the board. He was a loving person, who wore his heart on his sleeve. Charles was loud and funny and was always smiling.
He leaves his beloved wife, Sheila of Holyoke, mother, Pastor Annie Dyson of Holyoke, children, Ronald Vachon of Holyoke, Marie Vachon of Springfield, and Jessica Henn of Holyoke, brother, James “Beau” Littles, Jr. of Holyoke and sister, Shirley Griffin of Springfield, and five cherished grandchildren, Amadora, Bria London, Ruby Lou, Tyler, and Jordan, and many extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, April 5, for a period of visitation for Charles from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a service at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial for Charles will be held at a later date.

Helen T. Miles - July 23, 1926 - March 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Helen T. (Irwin) Miles, beloved wife of 67 years of Gideon T. Miles Jr., who predeceased her in 2016, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Holyoke Medical Center at the age of 95. Born in Holyoke, a daughter of Joseph and Nora (Sugrue) Irwin, she was educated in St. Jerome Schools and was a graduate of St. Jerome High School in 1944. Helen was employed in The Billing Department of the former Holyoke Wire and Cable Corp., and the Mount Tom Box Company before joining the Holyoke Water Works where she was a Senior Clerk for eighteen years, before retiring in 1991. She was a member and director of the American Association of Retired Persons, Holyoke Chapter #1524. Helen was also a member and treasurer of the Emblem Club, associated with the Holyoke Lodge of Elks #902. She was a strong going church lady who was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke for many years. Helen leaves her two sons, Edward G. Miles of Holyoke and Steven T. Miles, Sr. and his wife, Cindy of Burlington, CT, two grandsons, Steven T. Miles, Jr. and Daniel J. Miles, and niece, Laurel Smith Lafford (Llewellyn) of New York and her son Ryan O’Donnell, two special people in her life, Marc Gonneville from the House of Marc Beauty Salon in Chicopee and her longtime mail handler, Mark Lamagdeleine, who she affectionately said were like sons to her. There were also many neighbors and friends who made her life better. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Ann Bresnahan. Helen’s funeral will be held on Friday, April 1, beginning at 9 a.m. from Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Burial will be held at Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. Obituary Preview: Chicopee, MA – Carole Ann (Oparowski) Wiggin passed away January 9, 2022 and her loving husband Wallace Lee Wiggin passed away February 11, 2022.
Wallace served his country honorably in the United States Air Force serving during Korea as an Airman First Class. On November 29, 1965, Carole and Wallace were married, spending 56 wonderful years together.
Together they had two daughters, Karen Brown and her husband, David and Cindy Wiggin as well as two adored grandchildren, Taylor and Haley Brown. Carole leaves her siblings, Ronnie, Richard, Dorothy and Jeanie, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carole was predeceased by her brother, Eddie and Wallace was predeceased by his siblings, George Beck, Virginia Hyland, Ardelle Blood, Ralph Wiggin, Fred Wiggin, Stanley Wiggin, Edward Wiggin, and Charlie Wiggin.
Carole and Wallace lived in Chicopee for many years and were members of Mountain View Valley Baptist Church.
Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Friday April 15, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, with a 12:30 p.m. service in the funeral home. in Holyoke, MA later moving to Granby. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edmund Roger Gelinas, son Roger Gelinas, brothers Albert and Pierre VanBelle, Sister Henrietta McVemba and parents
Victorine and Leopold VanBelle. She leaves her son John Gelinas and wife Pat, daughter Michelle Gelinas and husband Justin, daughter Jaqueline Perrot and husband Ed, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Odette Dardenne, Sister-in-law

Obituary Preview: Victor Julio Solano, 63, passed away Monday January 24, 2022 at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke. Born in San Jose, Costa Rica to Victor and Francisca (Ramirez) Solano, he was a longtime South Hadley resident.
Victor was employed with the Canteen Corp in Connecticut for 30 years and most recently in Maintenance with the Holyoke Courthouse for several years.
Victor leaves his loving wife, Kathleen (Nelson) (Erickson) Solano of Holyoke; his five children, Christopher Solano of Holyoke, Melissa Torres and her husband Pedro of Belchertown, Michaela Solano of Holyoke, Keith Erickson of Holyoke and Jenna Erickson of California; six siblings, Ana Cecilia Winterle, William Solano and his wife Lidia, Carlos Solano and his wife Cruz, Gerardo Solano and his wife Ligia, Rosibel LaPointe and Yanory Roque and her husband Victor Manuel Rocque; two adored grandchildren, Sean Solano and Lillyanna Torres; brother-in-law, Carlos Luis Brenes and by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins both here and in Costa Rica.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Yadira Brenes and by his brother-in-law, Forrest LaPointe.
Victor loved life, people and his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed watching football with his nephews, and he found great joy in hosting many pool parties over the years and taking many beautiful rides and walks with his wife, Kathy. But Victor was happiest when he would share his cooking with his family and friends. Everything he made tasted wonderful, especially his Tamales.
Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Sunday January 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Constance was born January 13, 1939, in Holyoke, MA, a daughter of Ernest and Rita (Courchesne) Hamel. She was a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke and was employed as a Cashier for many years.
Connie loved her family dearly. Her best time were when they were all together, especially at the beach, picnics, holidays, the Big E and the casino with her beloved husband, Tom. Connie loved volunteering at the hospital and made wonderful friends. Connie and Tom had wonderful memories when they spent the winter months at their condo in Boca Raton, FL with their many friends. She is survived by her husband Thomas, three daughters, Diana and her husband Michael Zabielski, Cheryl and her husband Norman Fleurent, and Jennifer and her husband Anthony Westbrook; siblings, Robert and his wife Janet Hamel (Pre-deceased), Donald and his wife Mary Hamel, and Joanne Wiernasz and her partner Thomas Basile; grandchildren, Candace and her fiancée Nick Provost, Rachael and her partner Nick Cranshaw, Brittany Zabielski, Jamie Westbrook and his fiancée Denise Crockett and Kyle Zabielski; great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Ramona Provost and by many dear nieces and nephews. She was born on September 30, 1929 in New York City to Mario and Margaret ( Leto) Valenti and was a graduate of Julia Richmond High School. After leaving New York City, she enjoyed living in Bayville, NY, and Severn, MD, before moving to Holyoke, MA, five years ago to live with her daughter, Carolyn.
Josephine was an incredible cook and wonderful housewife. She was employed as the Administration Manager at the Pratt Institute Library, Arts & Science School in Brooklyn, NY, for many years.
She was predeceased by her husbands, James H. Tittle in 2015 and Arthur R. Schoedel in 1989; her son, Eric M. Schoedel in 1980; stepsons, James A. Tittle in 2015 and Fred Tittle in 2009, brother, Andrew Valenti, and his wife Ann, and by her sister in law, Gloria Valenti.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Carolyn A. Schoedel of Holyoke, MA; her brother, Joseph Valenti of Plainview, NY; stepchildren, John Tittle and Carol Ann Thompson and by several nieces and nephews.

William served his country honorably as a Specialist 4 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was later employed as a tool maker, for over 32 years, at United Technologies Research Center. William leaves behind his loving wife, Gail of South Hadley, and daughters, Lisa Wyman and her husband, Scott of Hawaii, Heather Morris and her husband, Stephen Rogers of Duxbury, MA, and Elizabeth Clark of Litchfield, NH, two Hanai daughters, Emily and Amanda Lambert; sisters, Maryann Boucher and Regina Riding both of Fairhaven, MA, and five cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn, Julia, Tyler, Nathaniel, and Lauren. Luz was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Holyoke and was a loving and devoted mother. She worked at “The Sisters of Mount Marie”. She retired after 30 years and never used a sick day. She loved to cook and always enjoyed having family gatherings. She once found a stray cat with a broken leg, and after several hours and several veterinarians advising her to euthanize the cat, she found a veterinarian in Connecticut who saved the cat, this was a reflection of her great heart. She is survived by her loving children, Sergio Cruz and his wife, Sonia of Springfield, Jose Cruz of Holyoke, Carmen Cruz of Springfield, Marisol Cruz of Holyoke, Holyoke Police Captain, Isaiah Cruz of Southampton, and Maritza Cruz of Holyoke, siblings, Angel and Pepe Rivera and Paula Rivera all of Puerto Rico,  numerous grandchildren, including her special grandson and caregiver, Tyrone O’Banner of Holyoke and numerous great grandchildren. Denise enjoyed crafting and cooking but most of all she truly  loved her family and friends. They were everything to her. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Vieu and her fiancé John LaBelle of South Hadley and Jahida Rivera and her fiancé Miguel Marchany of Waterbury, CT; two brothers, Michael Vieu of Springfield, VT and Clarence Vieu, III of Laconia, NH; her sister, Stacy Vieu of Holyoke; five grandsons and by several aunts, uncles and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Park; her son, Luis Rodriguez; her daughter, Belinda Rodriguez and by her brother, Kevin Vieu.

James R. Morton, Sr. - November 11, 1944 - October 04, 2021

Obituary Preview: Huntington – James R. Morton, Sr., 76, of Westfield, MA, peacefully passed away at his home. He was born November 11, 1944, in Northampton, MA, the son of the late Robert H. Morton, Sr. and Frances (Corbett) Morton of Florence.
Jim was educated in the Williamsburg schools and attended Smith Vocational School prior to enlisting in the US Army. His professional career included his military service and working as a 3rd Class Engineer on submarines in Groton, CT. He enjoyed keeping current on news and politics.
Jim was most passionate about his family. He treasured his time with this daughter, Angelika, and savored his interaction with his grandchildren. Consistently, Jim thought about the needs of others and tried to lend a hand to anyone needing one. In his last years, he developed a special relationship with his four-legged buddy, Toby. Toby was a special cat, both Jim and Toby cared for one another deeply.
Of special interest was Jim’s attraction to Florida’s weather and scenery. He lived in Florida for 20 years and loved to travel around in his RV to take in the sights and meet new people. “Papa”, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed wood working, fishing, puzzles, and he loved his Dunkin Donuts and coffee! He had a good sense of humor, witty, smart, kind, generous, stubborn at times, funny, selfless, and had a big heart.
Unfortunately, Jim experienced some difficulties with cancer in life. He is immeasurably grateful to the American Cancer Society’s generosity. With ACS’s support, Jim had more time to spend with his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Angelika Morton of Huntington, MA; two sons, James Morton, Jr. with his wife Jackie, and William Morton of Fairbanks, AK; his five grandchildren, Tony Morton of Woonsocket, RI, Amanda Kochapski and her fiancé Cody Clarke of Florence, MA and David Kochapski, Jr. of Huntington, MA and Hope and Grace Morton of Fairbanks, AK, a great granddaughter, Selina Morton of Woonsocket, RI and his nieces and nephews, Hedwig Gabriel and Hanelore Morton of Fairbanks, AK, Ollie “Buddy” Schmith and his wife, Lisa, and TJ Schmith. Jim was predeceased by his brothers and sister, Robert Morton, Jr., Mary Schmith, Jackie Morton and Richard Morton.

Obituary Preview: On September 24, 2021, Doris Rios (Loli), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, passed away at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield at the age of 76. Doris was born on March 6, 1945, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, daughter of Dolores and Juana (Andino) Perez. She was raised and educated in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, before coming to the States in 1966. Doris first resided in Brooklyn, NY, and later in Holyoke and most recently in Springfield.
She worked in several factories throughout the years and was a bus monitor in Holyoke and helped many under privileged children as a Foster Mother for the city of Holyoke. Doris was at the center of her family; she was a phenomenal cook and homemaker who loved to entertain her family and friends during the holidays and other special occasions.  She was also the winner of a radio contest several years ago for the best Morcillas in Springfield. She crocheted many hats, blankets, and other garments for those she loved and cared for. Doris also enjoyed listening to music; especially Bachata and loved to dance.
She leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Victor Rios of Springfield, her children, Iris M. Luna of Davenport, FL, Marilyn E. Colecchia of Daytona, FL, Sonia L. DeMaio, and her husband Jeff of Springfield, Doris D. Saavedra and her husband Luis A. of Palm City, Fl, Raymond Lopez, and his companion Maddie Ramos, Destiny S. Rios all of Springfield, and Ivalise M. Rios of Fitchburg, MA, two brothers, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her beloved dog Nina. Raymond was employed in Research and Development at Texon in South Hadley for many years until his retirement.

She was born in Holyoke to Claire (Chabot) Hebert and the late Levi Hebert, she was a 1978 graduate of Holyoke Catholic High, later attending Holyoke Community College.
Diane was employed in Retail for many years as a Cashier and at Arnold’s Meat in Chicopee for 15 years. Diane enjoyed beading, making jewelry and her many friends at the American Legion on Sycamore St. in Holyoke, Post 325 as well as the Women’s Auxiliary.
She also enjoyed the Mt. Tom Reservation and loved her family and grandchildren dearly.
Besides her mother, Claire, she is survived by her two children; Randolph A. Pennell, Jr. of Westfield and Christie Pennell and her husband William Gideon of Maryland; her brother, Dennis Hebert and his wife Jolene of Texas, and by three grandchildren, Madison, Randy III and Sal.
Family and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Sunday August 29th from 11:00 am – 1:00pm at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke followed by a 1:00pm service in the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family at a later date.

Alice was born on November 11, 1918, the daughter of the late George W. and Hannie E. (Muzzey) Wing. Growing up in Holyoke, Alice lived just a block down the street from George Henderson, whom she would later marry in 1947. Alice was a member of the former Falls Congregational Church in South Hadley, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was also a Troop leader for the Girl Scouts for several years, a member of the Senior Citizens of Holyoke, and as a young adult she was a member of the Oak Leaf Rebekah Lodge, of Holyoke. Alice enjoyed taking trips with her mother up to Sunapee, NH, where her mother grew up and in her later years, Alice would travel to many different places around the world, including China, Germany, and Israel. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband George (1980) and by her brother, W. Paul Wing. She is survived by her daughters, Dora Campbell, of Springfield, Cheryl Tarczynski of North Adams, her granddaughters Gail LaCosse of North Adams and Jennifer Campbell of Holyoke, her brother Richard Wing, of Newton, MA, as well as four great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
