Don Ells - November 27, 1945 - May 07, 2024

Departed: 05/07/2024 (Clarkston)
Obituary Preview: Don Ray Ells was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Lewiston, and passed away peacefully at his home in Clarkston on Thursday, May 9, 2024. He was one of seven children born to Lillian Gertrude Olson and Walter Henry Ells.
He grew up and attended school in Clarkston before enlisting in the United States Navy. After his military service, he became a traveling millwright and worked in several locations west of the Mississippi, one of the hardest working men you’ve ever met. Don moved back to Clarkston after retiring to be close to his sons and the finest fishing holes.
He married Linda Kinzer in 1968 and they had three sons, Lonnie Ray, Daren Henry and Travis Lee. This marriage eventually ended in divorce. His marriage to Cheryl brought him a daughter, Christina Michelle, whom he adopted. This marriage also ended in divorce.
Don spent many years in South Dakota and Arizona supporting his daughter’s love of horses, helping train Arabian show horses. He enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee every morning, spending time with Daren at car shows or cruising around town checking on friends and relatives. He loved helping Daren with various projects, the many lunches they shared over the past several years and helping him and his wife at their home, mostly as their personal security guard. Don had a heart of gold, which he hid from most everyone with his stubbornness and tough exterior.
Preceding him in death were his parents and four siblings, Arthur Ells, Delbert Ells, Coral Burgess and Gary Ells.
He leaves behind his older brother, Richard “Dick” Ells of Daleville, Ala., twin brother Dan Ells (Karen) of Clarkston, sister-in-law Angie Ells of Walla Walla, sister-in-law Betty Ells of Clarkston, son Lonnie Ells (Kim) of Clarkston and their children Gavin and Cody, son Daren Ells (Dana) of Clarkston and their children Cedar, Cutlar and Stailee, son Travis Ells (Megan) of Gilbert, Ariz., and their children Oakley and Tate, and daughter Christina Graves of St. Petersburg, Fla.
We offer our sincere thanks to Dan’s family, Robert and Casey Engle, and Elite Home Health & Hospice for their care and assistance.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place, per his wishes. Merchant Funeral Home of Clarkston is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence "Dutch" Kuykendall - January 09, 1920 - April 13, 2024

Departed: 04/13/2024 (Clarkston)
Obituary Preview: Lawrence Russel “Dutch” Kuykendall, an 81-year resident of Clarkston, went to be with his Lord, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the age of 104. Dutch was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Leland to Elbert and Leatha Kuykendall. He was raised in Kendrick then attended Weiser Vocational School to become a welder. He met his future wife, Lissa LaVerne “Jo” Hayhurst there and married April 19, 1941, in Boise.
Dutch joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, and served with the SeaBees in the Philippines during World War II. He worked as a welder for Potlatch Forests Inc. and Lewiston Truck and Tractor (Crocker Trucking) before opening Dutch’s Welding Shop on 15th and Maple in 1960. During his welding career he worked on natural gas lines that span the Snake River and lines from the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley to Spokane.

Dutch and Jo played with a cribbage club and he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and lapidary. There were many camping trips and picnics with other families while they raised their four children. Birthdays and holidays were unforgettable celebrations. Dutch’s advice to younger generations was “take every day the way it comes and make the most of it,” which he certainly did. We will miss our dad, having been blessed to enjoy him for so many years, but we do not mourn his passing. Dutch asked Jesus into his heart two months before his 100th birthday. We know where he and our mom are and believe John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Dutch was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers- Jim, Stan and Don Kuykendall and his loving wife in October of 2020. Dutch and Jo were blessed with 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the First Church of God, 910 Sycamore St, Clarkston, where any memorial gifts may be made.
Our deep gratitude goes to his angel caregiver, Audrey Felkins, his “best neighbor,” Lenny Frasure, Clarkston Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia and the staff at Evergreen Estates where he was lovingly cared for since June 2016.
