He was born January 18, 1937 in West Liberty, OH to the late Leo and Mary (King) Grimes. On July 1, 1988 Joe married his beautiful and devoted wife, Sylvia (Holthaus) and she survives.
Joe is also survived by one son: Jeff (Stacy) Grimes, Piqua, OH; one stepson: Philip (Michele) Berning, Miamisburg, OH; one stepdaughter: Beth Berning (Paul Schmiesing) Egypt, OH; one son-in-law: Rick (Jill) Cron; one sister: Phyllis Wallace, Bellefontaine, OH; two brothers: Leo Grimes, Jr., Bellefontaine, OH; Don (Carol Ann) Grimes, Kenton, OH; loyal companion: Barney; grandchildren: Dawnna (Ray), Zack (Rachel), Katie (Kyle), Kyle, Kassie (Trey), great-grandchildren: Dirk, Clive, Neil, Lochlan, Wade, Rafe, Kaylei, Eli, Kameron, Khloe, Zoey, in-laws: Karen and Jim Anthony, Ft. Joe graduated from Zanesfield Monroe High School in 1955. He was a guard at the London Prison Farm and worked for Miller-Meteor in Piqua, OH as a salesman. Joe retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in Sidney, OH. He enjoyed boating, fishing, mushroom hunting, and gardening. He belonged to the Piqua VFW and Piqua Boat and Ski Club. Joe enjoyed playing cards at the VFW every Tuesday and Thursday. He enjoyed spending the winter in Lakeland, FL. More than anything Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thank you to Ralph Bolten, a dear friend.
A private funeral service for Joe will be held at the convenience of the family. Services have been entrusted to Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua, OH.

She was born on September 17, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Michael Arthur and Frances (Pumo) Pezzullo. On July 20, 1957 in Croydon, PA, she married William A. Shanks, Jr. and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2020.
Anita is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: James L. and Michelle Shanks, Omaha, NE; Michael J. and Tracy Shanks, Phoenix, AZ; one daughter and son-in-law: Sandy and Antonio “Tony” Zingaro, Burlington, NJ; granddaughters: Amy Correa, Michelle Rodriguez, Sandy Rodriguez, Courtney Shanks & Kate Zingaro (Rob McLaughlin); grandson: Shawn Rodriguez (Nicole); great-granddaughters: Sarah Mota, Leah Rodriguez, Jaylynn Romero; great-grandsons: Nicholas Correa, Eddie Cruz, Isaiah Cruz, Nicholas Ploetz, Hunter Webb; great-great-grandson: Christian Rodriguez. She was preceded in death by: daughter: Debra Ann Shanks; one brother: John Pezzullo; one granddaughter: Carlie Ploetz.
Anita graduated from Delhaas High School, Bristol, PA in 1954. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Piqua, OH. At the church, Anita was active in St. Clara Society, Sacristan, Lector, Parish Council and Worship Commission Committee. She was a secretary at Hartzell Fan and the French Oil Mill Machinery Co., both of Piqua, OH for many years. She was also employed at Design Technologies in Troy, OH.
Funeral services for Anita will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua, OH with Rev. Tony Cutcher. Burial to follow at Miami Memorial Park in Covington, OH. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am through 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Mary graduated from the Piqua Central High School in 1956. She was a member of the Piqua Church of the Nazarene. Mary retired in 2003 after 30 years of service with the Piqua Sears. She was an accomplished bowler for over 40 years. Mary served in her church, teaching Sunday school in the children’s ministry, and serving at the Bethany Center.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Piqua Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Steve Spoon officiating. Burial to immediately follow at Miami Memorial Park in Covington, OH. Terry graduated from Houston High School in 1977. He worked at Hydro Aluminum in Sidney, OH for 36 years, holding multiple positions. Terry was a proud Democrat. He loved and had a passion for music, especially the band Rush. Terry loved to travel to Michigan frequently and out west. He loved the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Cincinnati Bengals. Terry loved to spend time with family, especially at every family event.

Jesse graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1960 and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1962. He worked for Miami Industry for 5 years. Jesse sold insurance for Prudential for a couple of years. He was a Transportation Manager for local car dealerships for over 20 years. He enjoyed going fishing and vacationing in Florida. Jesse helped coach midget league baseball, and softball.

Lee graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1987. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1987 to 2003. Lee worked for Steve Bohman at Bohman Trucking Company in Russia, OH for 8 years. He enjoyed camping, cleaning his cars, working on his cars, and camper. More than anything Lee loved spending time with his children and grandson.

Jeannene graduated from Houston High School in 1979 and was a member of St. Boniface Church. She worked for Conagra Foods in Troy, OH for 17 years. She loved to go shopping and collecting purses. Jeannene loved to spend time with family, especially with her grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 22, 2024 at St. Boniface Church with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman. Burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua, OH. Shirley A. Harkless - December 20, 1936 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: SHIRLEY ANN HARKLESS, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at her home in Brookhaven Retirement Community in Brookville, Ohio. Shirley was born on December 20, 1936 in Manor Township, Pennsylvania to Joseph Christopher and Lorna Jeannette Wyant who lived in Ford City. She was the oldest of five children who included Robert, Judy, David, and Dale.
Shirley met and married Donald Dale Harkless in 1956 shortly after graduating from Ford City High School. They were married for 34 years until his death in 1990. Together they had three children. Judi was born in 1957 and twins, Brian and Patsy, were born in 1962. Unfortunately, Patsy died at birth.
Shirley was an avid reader, loved animals (especially cats), and loved music. She possessed strong Christian values, was a faithful church attender, gave generously, and was a dedicated and much loved Sunday School teacher to busy third graders for decades at Worthington Baptist Church in Pennsylvania. After spending many years as a busy, stay-at-home mom, she eventually went to work in the office at the Buffalo Township Water Authority until her retirement. The move to Ohio came after that in an effort to place herself closer to all of her kids and grandkids.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents (Joseph and Lorna Wyant), her husband (Donald Harkless), two daughters (Patsy Harkless and Judi Nicholl), one grandchild (Megan Nicholl), and one brother (Dale Wyant).
Surviving family members include her son Brian (Alisa) Harkless, Englewood, OH; and son-in-law Gary Nicholl, Piqua, OH. Loving grandchildren Andrew (Courtney) Nicholl, Natalie (Ian) Schott, Katie (Jason) Frazier, Christopher (Alexandria) Harkless, Heather (Travis) Snyder, and Haleigh Nicholl. She was a proud great-grandmother to Romey, Paisley, Addie, Tristyn, Eliza, and Wyatt (who is scheduled to arrive in just a few short weeks). Additionally, living siblings include Robert (Gerri) Wyant, Judy (Edward) Mailki, and David (Denise) Wyant.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday April 18, 2024 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua, OH with Pastor Matt Harbour. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 AM through 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
On Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM through 12:00 PM at Worthington Baptist Church 327 East Ross St., Worthington, PA 16262 the family will receive friends for a time of remembrance. Burial to follow at Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery with Pastor Dan Basham.

He was an ambassador for Petosky Chamber of Commerce and Robert also M.C. for Brother Dan’s Food Pantry in Petosky for many years.

He was preceded in death by one son: Robbie Von Aschen and two brothers: Richard Von Aschen and Daniel Von Aschen.
Jerry graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1968 as the class Valedictorian. He worked as a top tool maker for Hartzell Propeller in Piqua for 25 years. Jerry helped build one of the pieces for the voyager airplane. Jerry was a born again Christian and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Piqua. He was a private pilot and was a big part of starting the Piqua Youth Soccer Association. Jerry was also a soccer referee for the OHSAA.

Sonny proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1965 – 1967 at Ft. Carson, CO where he was a Gas and Diesel Tanker Driver. He worked at Champion Paper for 10 years. Sonny then went on to work at Hartzell Propeller where he retired after 35 years.

After graduating from Graham High School, Anthony proudly served in the United States Army from 1977 and retiring in 1994. During his military career, Anthony was proud of his time as a drill instructor, where he prepared new recruits for their military service. He then became a part of the United States Army’s Infantry and was awarded numerous honors and accolades for being the outstanding soldier he was. Anthony also proudly served as commander of a Bradley Tank Platoon during the Desert Storm Operation in Kuwait. He was stationed throughout the United States and overseas, finishing his service in Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO. Anthony was proud and honored to serve his country and considered it a privilege to have serviced in the United States of American Armed Forces. After his first retirement Anthony got his CDL and once again traveled across America. He settled locally driving a concrete truck and concrete pump truck then hauling groceries and supplies for local factories before once again retiring. Never one to slow down, Anthony began working again delivering auto parts locally. He retired one final time to take care of his wife, beloved dog Dobi, his mustang (which was a prized possession), yard, and house. A brave soul joined with a humorous livelihood; one that fought tirelessly through life’s tribulations, yet never faltered in bringing contagious laughter and joy to any atmosphere. Anthony was a beautiful soul that will always live in those who loved him dearly; revisiting fond memories as if they were yesterday, no matter the amount of time that has passed.
