Obituary Preview: Christine Malone Street “Chrys” left this life April 18, 2022. She was born in Birmingham, AL on September 4, 1930 to the late Malloy Benson and Lucy Sims Malone. She graduated from Auburn University with a BA in Art. She attended graduate school at Emory University where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Upsilon, honorary education sorority. She taught in Atlanta Public, Marietta City, and the Walker schools. She was also involved in cultural arts, receiving board commendations and a lifetime membership in the P.T.A. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Anne Hudgins Shakespeare Class and the Honeysuckle Garden Club.
She was the founder of Cobb County Habitat for Humanity (now the NW Atlanta Habitat affiliate) which has built many houses in the area. She was also a founding member of the Cobb County (GA) Landmarks, the Jule Collins Smith Art Museum at Auburn University as well as the Booth museum in Cartersville, Georgia.
Chrys was a true artist in the deepest sense of the word. She designed and made stained glass windows, some of which are installed at the Cobb Youth Museum and the Marietta Middle School. She found joy in taking discarded and damaged materials to incorporate them into her arts, where it be a mural from broken dishes or a rooster from a discarded laundry detergent jug. She was always saving things for making something.
She married John R. St, an architect, in 1952 and he designed their Marietta home in 1955. John predeceased Chrys, passing in 2009. She is survived by her sons and daughters in-law Ruben Mattison (Matt & Christie) of Roswell, GA and John Kirkland ( Kirk & Tressa) of Marietta, GA, Grandsons Alex & Lea and granddaughter Taylor Lyle of McMinnville, TN and Keller of Atlanta as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Marietta Educational Garden Center (505 Kennesaw Ave Marietta, GA 30060) or  the Cobb Youth Museum ( P.O. Box 78 Marietta, GA 30061).

Obituary Preview: Anthony Bruce Potre, 84, died April 18, 2022, at his home in Woodstock, Georgia. A resident of metro Atlanta for 37 years, Bruce was born to Stanley and Barbara Potre in Chicago, Illinois, and was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara McLeod.
He was married to his wife, Sandra, for more than 60 years and has two children, Lauren (Bill) Zuravleff and Karen (Bob) Quinn; and four grandchildren: Adam Zuravleff, Delaney Quinn, Carter Quinn, and Barrett Quinn.
Bruce was an electrical engineer with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 40 years which took him from Chicago to Denver to Atlanta with lifelong friendships formed in each location.
Always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends, Bruce also always had a smile to share. His interests were incredibly varied throughout his life: stock car racing in Chicago, mountain climbing in the Colorado Rockies, downhill skiing, building or fixing anything and everything in his workshop, coaching and refereeing soccer, being a Blue Knights of Colorado parent and supporter in so many ways, playing golf and tennis, traveling the world with his loving and adventurous wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
A private family service will be held.

David was born on March 12, 1947 in Wilder, TN, to the late Porter and Josephine Stults. He was the second of Porter and Josephine’s nine children. David’s family moved from Tennessee to Anderson, Indiana, when he was a child. He returned to Tennessee to attend college at Tennessee Technological University, where he met his wife, Carolyn Jean Doran. They wed during college and were married 54 years. They gave birth to two daughters, Tina and Laura. David worked as a computer programmer and software engineer for more than four decades, before retiring in 2012.
David is survived by his daughters and wife; his son-in-law, Bruce Launey; his granddaughter, Hannah; his sisters, Saundra Turner, Denise Flesher, Shirley Richardson, and Catherine Duckworth; and his brother, Ronald Stults.
At the family’s request, no public services will be held. The family also respectfully declines flowers, but donations may be made in his honor to Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary, 765 Nonaville Road, Mount Juliet, TN 37122, 615-314-5565, https://ofsds.org.

Wallace Eugene Pickel - June 17, 1935 - February 27, 2022

Obituary Preview: Heaven welcomed Wallace Eugene Pickel of Marietta, Georgia on February 27, 2022 at the age of 86.
Wallace, known to most as Wally, was born on June 17, 1935 in Murray County to Joseph Franklin Pickel and Lillie Patterson Pickel. He was one of seven children born in a log cabin in the Duggin area. He was the only child in his family to graduate from high school and college. He always remained very proud of his humble beginnings!
He graduated from Cassville High School and entered the US Navy in 1952, where he served until 1956. Upon discharge he completed a BBA from the University of Georgia and a JD from Woodrow Wilson College of Law. Wally spent most of his career in the insurance business.
Wally was happiest spending time with his family, playing music, tending to his vegetable garden, and chopping wood. He had a great love of music and was an accomplished guitarist and singer. He loved playing with his beloved band brothers at the senior center. Wally loved the beach and his North Georgia Mountains. He passed his love of travel on to his entire family.
His greatest love was his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue Pickel (formerly Day) and three daughters: Stephanie Harkins, Pam Chafin, and Kim Akin; as well as three son in laws who he adored: Paul, Nick, and James. Wally was beloved “Papa” to nine grandchildren: Seth Harkins, Jared Harkins, Jake Harkins, Kristen Wagner, Tyler Chafin, Laura Chafin, Jay Akin, Joseph Akin, and Rachel Akin, as well as eight great grandchildren: Karalin, Sawyer, Barrett, Laila, Jackson, Rylie, Caleb, and Wesley.
Wallace, a proud Navy veteran, will be laid to rest at the military cemetery in Canton, Georgia with full honors on March 18th.

Alicia is survived by her three children Judy, Linda, Billy, family and her many grandchildren.  Mom is and will always be missed. Sadly last year, her daughter Renee passed.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 PM on March 21, 2022 at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia.

Virginia Stiles Pittman - December 17, 1924 - February 20, 2022

Obituary Preview: Virginia (Gennie) Stiles Pittman, of Dallas, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 20, 2022 at the age of 97.
Virginia was born on December 17, 1924 in Cobb County, Georgia to the late Harley Samuel and Bessie Scroggs Stiles and grew up in a close knit family with her 8 brothers and sisters.  She graduated from Marietta High School and began her career as a bookkeeper with Anderson Chevrolet in Marietta, Georgia.  After meeting and marrying Sidney Pittman she was devoted to being a wife and mother (teacher, mentor, counselor, cheer leader and number 1 fan of all her children).  Together Sidney and Virginia raised a beautiful family of seven children.  She was a long-time member of Awtrey-Westwood Baptist Church where she enjoyed many activities, especially being a member of the choir.  Virginia loved working crossword puzzles, working on jigsaw puzzles (the harder the better), board and card games.  During the past few years playing Skip-Bo became her favorite way to pass the time.  Playing the game with one or more of her children became a daily activity.
Virginia is survived by her children Amy Pittman Bennett, Barbara Pittman Bennett (Ron), Joel Samuel Pittman (Vee), Gloria Pittman, Elizabeth Pittman Moss, David Pittman (Wanda) and Marian Pittman Gallman (Mark), 21 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Luther Pittman, her parents and siblings, her son-in-law, Jackie Glenn Bennett and grandson Benjamin Luther VanBuren.  She is loved by many and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 26, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at Medford-Peden Funeral Home, 1408 Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia 30066, followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 am in the Medford-Peden Chapel with Virginia’s grandson, Michael Bennett officiating.
Interment will be at Northeast Piney Grove Baptist Church, 3277 Post Oak Tritt Road, Marietta, Georgia 30062.
Virginia’s grandsons are honored to be pallbearers for their grandmother.

Obituary Preview: On Tuesday February 15, 2022, Elizabeth Poe Jankura, loving wife and mother passed away at the age of 78.
Betty was born on June 23, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia to C. Dwight and Gertrude Poe.
Betty graduated from Saint Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta in 1961.  Her professional career was in government service and included working for the General Service Administration as well as the CDC.  She left government service in 1986 to support the family business, Pathogen Control Associates.
She was dedicated to her husband, Raymond Theodore Jankura, children and grandchildren. Forever an optimistic person, she brought joy into everyone's lives and was not one to complain. She enjoyed volunteering for the church, traveling, spending time with family and she never met a slot machine that didn't make her smile.
On December 5, 1992, she married Raymond Theodore Jankura. She is survived by Ray, son Carl Hollingsworth and wife Mo'nique of Atlanta Georgia; daughter Lori Sellers and partner Sean DeGayner of Hartland, Wisconsin; son Chris Feeley of Jasper Georgia; son Jay Feeley and wife Namiko of Kyoto Japan; daughter Shawna Feeley and husband Stephen Wayne of Bristol Tennessee; son Brendan Feeley and wife Mende of Dallas Georgia; daughter Linda Popham and husband Dennis of Cartersville, Georgia; Daughter Becky Jankura of Hixson, Tennessee; brother C. Dwight Poe Jr. of Burke, Virginia and eight grandchildren Brittany Feeley, Dillon, Jackson, Ethan, Marina, Erika, Emily and Jenna.

Douglas Anthony Morgan - November 08, 1949 - February 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: Douglas Anthony Morgan, 72, of Kennesaw, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Wellstar Community Hospice Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain. He was born on November 8, 1949, in Atlanta, to Ola Morgan and Sarah Jeanette (Pate) Morgan; who both preceded him in death.
Anthony was one of eight siblings. He was preceded in death by his two older sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley Morgan, and Jewell Currier (Donald). He is survived by five younger brothers and four sisters-in-law, Henry Morgan (Tracy), John Morgan (Mary Helen), Raymond Morgan, Larry Morgan (Redina), and Mark Morgan (Kim). He is also survived by three adult children, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was known to many as Doug, or Anthony, or another nickname along the way, but the one he enjoyed and embraced the most was “Cowboy”. To his family he was known as Anthony.
Anthony really enjoyed his work. He had a history of working for the City of Atlanta Water & Waste Water; he also spent time playing country music; he worked for a cabinet making shop; building and selling custom furniture, and working many years for home builders holding many positions including construction foreman. He then became an entrepreneur, starting Residential Preventative Maintenance, Inc., where he worked for the last 19 years of his life.
Anthony loved to spend time with his family, and enjoyed any opportunity to take a road trip, he found a certain comfort in working on vehicles, especially older ones; his special love was playing his guitars and singing. He also renewed his passion in Christ when he found Freedom Church.
Anthony was a good man, a hard worker, and a loving, caring person who didn’t know a stranger and he will be missed dearly by all who know and loved him.
A Memorial Service to honor Douglas Anthony Morgan’s life will be held at Freedom Church, 3611 Cobb Pkwy, Acworth, Ga 30101 on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 am. We would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Freedom Church. Obituary Preview: Fred W. Buford Jr. of Marietta, GA. went to be home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 5th ,2022 at the age of 93.  Fred was born on August 11, 1928 in Acworth, GA.
Fred was a WWII veteran. He enlisted in the navy on his 17th birthday and served as a seabee. He went on to work for three decades at Lockheed and retired as a flight line supervisor.
He was also a deacon at the Christ Worship Center in Marietta GA.
Fred was predeceased by his daughter, Melody; his wife, Geraldine; and brother, Jack. He is survived by his son, Fred; grandchildren, Andrew and Michelle; and great-grandchild, Maria Todd.
A service of remembrance will be held Thursday February 10th at the Christ Worship Center located at 3393 Canton Rd. Marietta GA. Family will greet friends at the fellowship hall at 12PM followed by a service of remembrance in the church sanctuary at 2:00.
Internment will be at Georgia Memorial Park, Marietta, GA.

Dolores was a dedicated case worker for the American Red Cross (Service to Military Families) from 1951 to 1981. She graduated from Kensington High School in 1940 and worked in the war industries during World War II.  Dolores was an accomplished seamstress.
She also enjoyed gardening, Scottish Folk Dancing, and family vacation trips with her grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob” Ernest Koch age 73 of Marietta, GA passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA surrounded by his family.  Bob was born December 19, 1948 in Flint, MI, son of the late Arnold and Rosemarie Koch.  Bob was well respected as a father, PaPa, sibling, friend and co-worker; while helping, teaching many individuals of his vast knowledge especially when it came to “repairing” items.  He loved dancing, gardening, woodworking, skiing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Bob graduated from Goodrich High School in 1967.  After high school he studied Electronics at Oakland Community College,  R.E.T.S. Electronics schools receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Siena Heights University.  While attending High School he worked at Bennett’s TV in Goodrich.  Later Bob purchased it until he relocated to Georgia.
Bob retired from Stromquist & Company in 2018 after working a total of 37 years.  In addition to working, Bob received a Lifetime membership after serving 46 years with the Lions Club. He was actively involved with the Marietta Lions Club (serving on the board and receiving numerous awards and honors), Goodrich Lions Club and the Leader Dogs for the Blind in MI.  He was also a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church, serving on many boards, in particular with building maintenance and repair. He was always willing to lend a helping hand even before he was asked.
Bob is survived by his beloved daughter, Susan Marie Koch (Jarred Miller) and his awesome grandkids: Bradly Keith, Dean Patrick, Kaitlyn , Karson, Cabella, Wyatt Miller.  Sisters, Monalee Sue Clements (James), Shirley Hetherington (Bryan), Nettie Stanley (John), Jacqueline DeLaRosa (Antonio) and brother, Edward Koch (Twila).  He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Keith Koch.  Also, many nieces and nephews and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 1st at Faith Lutheran Church (2111 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA).  Visitation is from 12pm – 1pm with the service at 1:00pm.  A separate service will be held in Michigan; details will follow at a later date.
We would like to thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to all the staff at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for the great care that was provided.

Obituary Preview: Opal Holmes Tatum, age 99, of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband, James Gaston Tatum.  Survivors include her daughters: Dianne Carter of Kennesaw and Deborah Babykin of Marietta; granddaughters: Anastacia Murray, Margie Purtic and Ginna Mage; and 9 greatgrandchildren.
Opal grew up in Pickens County, GA, but lived most of her life in Cobb County.  She was active in her church and positively impacted many lives over the years.  She never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcomed.  Anyone who truly knew her knew she had a big heart.  She would give you anything, even if it was not hers to give.  She loved gardening and would share the bounty with family, friends, and even strangers.
Her long, fruitful life was one of strong belief in the Lord and faithfulness in all of life’s events.  She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Medford-Peden Funeral Home at 1408 Canton Road, NE, Marietta, GA on Saturday, January 29th, 2022 at 1:00 pm with funeral service following at 2:00 pm.

Roy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Pace Neal.  Roy was a father of 3.  Son Lee Neal (Jessica) of Dallas, GA preceded him in death in 2012, daughter Helen Hodges (Chris) and son Steven Neal (Tara) of Marietta, GA.  He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Roy is also survived by siblings Eugene Neal, Claudette (Charles) Sudlow, Wallace Neal, Richard (Irene) Neal, Belinda (Steve) Genda, and David (Brenda) Neal, along with many nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by sister Wanda Winters.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 12 from 4:00-6:00 PM.  Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Culpepper on Thursday, January 13 at 1:00 in the chapel at Medford-Peden Funeral Home followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta, GA.

Obituary Preview: Gaither Dawson “Pete” Peden, Jr., 89, of Woodstock, GA, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021.  Pete was born on June 23, 1932 to Gaither D. Peden, Sr and Anna S. Peden in Cincinnati, OH.  He grew up in Mount Washington, Ohio, a beautiful suburb located on the east side of Cincinnati.
Pete attended Withrow High School where he was very active in Sports, Men’s Glee Club, Fraternities, and Socializing.  After graduating in 1950, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a Sr. Communications Installer for the 155th Tactical Control Group, stationed throughout Eastern Europe.  After the service, he began to study Architecture, however exposure to the funeral industry as a youth and during his military duties, revealed his true calling and Pete decided to attend the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.  Following graduation in 1955, his parents and sister, Katherine moved to Miami, Florida where Pete began his apprenticeship in the funeral industry, mastering his trade along-side many of the largest funeral home owners in South Florida.  His enthusiasm and natural leadership abilities soon led Pete to opening his first funeral home.  Before long, a second location was opened, and Pete quickly became the youngest funeral home owner in the State of Florida.  He was an extremely hard worker, dedicated and determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved.
Alongside the growth of his family and a successful funeral home business, Pete’s recognition in the community developed quickly through his continued leadership in many Professional and Social organizations, such as Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Rotary Club and Optimist Club, to name a few.
In 1983, Pete met his wife, Rita and the storybook romance he had always hoped for was born.  Along with his daughter, Rosanne and sons, Gaither III and Sean, he welcomed Rita’s daughter, Jennifer and son, James into the Peden family with open arms.  In 1986, they moved to Atlanta, GA to join Rita’s immediate family.  Pete soon returned to the ministry that was his calling, by purchasing an existing funeral home, naming it the Medford-Peden Funeral Home, located in Marietta, Georgia.  In 2018, with over 60 years in the industry, he finally retired with his Bride.
Pete touched the lives of so many, described by all who knew him as nothing but kind, loving, caring, warm, amazing and was always a source of positivity.  He never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcomed.  He will be missed more than words can say.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Mary Peden of Woodstock, GA; his four children, Rosanne Peden Patterson of Miami, FL, Gaither D. Peden III of W Palm Beach, FL, Sean Peden of Clearwater, FL and James R. Minor of Kansas City, MO; 12 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren, many extended family and an abundance of friends.  Preceding him in death was his daughter, Jennifer Minor Kusterbeck of Atlanta, GA.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, December 29, at 7:00pm with a Prayer Service following at 7:30pm at Medford-Peden Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, 770-427-8447.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm, Thursday, December 30, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock, GA with Rev. Fausto Marquez presiding.  Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta, Ga.
