Gerald "Jerry" Meyer - September 13, 1942 - August 24, 2023

Departed: 08/24/2023 (Clever)
Obituary Preview: On August 24th, 2023 Jerry Lee Meyer, of Clever Missouri, passed away at home surrounded by his family and friends after a valiant fight with cancer. He will be dearly
missed by his loved ones and all those that knew him. Jerry was 80 years old. Born in Peoria Illinois on September 13th, 1942, he was the oldest of 13 siblings and grew up in Rawlins, Wyoming. Upon leaving home, he joined the National Guard in which he served as a cook. After his service he would teach himself his lifelong craft of becoming a master upholsterer, among many other carpentry trades, he was truly wonderful with his hands and there was nothing he could not accomplish with them. He traveled the country and its big cities, working for large hotels and companies, all the while building the incredible work ethic, creativity and optimism he was known to
possess. On his journey he met the woman that he would devote his life to for the next 37 years, Kayla, with whom they raised a family and created a home in Clever Missouri. Settling down and opening a shop, it is here that he and Kayla created their own business, Jer-A-Ka (a Jerry and Kayla metamorphosis). Together, with the help of his kids, they would build, restore, recreate, and at times, make the impossible possible. He helped out many of the surrounding areas businesses and people, chances are you have seen
or relaxed amongst his work and not even known it. Jerry was known for many things, his craftsmanship, hard work, and a kind heart, but he excelled at being a husband, father and grandfather. He had a knack for making teddy bears and countless pieces of amazing furniture from scratch for all of them, spoiling them the best he could along the way. His passions though, were making uniquely wonderful artistic pens in his shop or cross stitching, with some coffee, while listening to the bible or old time music. Chances are if you brought him something to work on, you’d leave with a new pen and a guided tour of his gallery of stitchings. He would give pens to people he met to brighten their day and bring a smile into the world. He loved giving or doing what he could to make people feel special in all he did. He was a caring member of the community, strong in his faith and quick to help if needed. He will be
missed by all those that had the fortune to know the man he was. Jerry is survived by his wife who he loved so very much, Kayla; his four siblings, Brenda, Connie, Roger and Roseanne; his four children, Josh, Shanna, Kristy and
Kathy; and six grandchildren, Erin, Collin, Grayson, Owen, Fred and Amelia.
His celebration of life will be held at the Meador Funeral Home in Clever Missouri.

Michael Brees - July 19, 1958 - May 14, 2023

Departed: 05/14/2023 (Clever)
Obituary Preview: Michael Lee Brees, 64, of Clever, MO passed away peacefully in the early morning on  May 14th, 2023. He was born to Arlene Luella Brees nee Schott and Clarence Edwin Brees on July 19th, 1958 in Castro Valley, California and spent most of his childhood creating mischief in Black Forest, Colorado. While he never talked about it, we found out that he spent time in band as well as football while he was a student, but it probably comes as no surprise to those that knew him that he might have been just a little more interested in deviance than in straight A’s.
Michael was a hardworking, respectable, and honest man. He owned and operated Clear Creek Drywall in Idaho Springs, Colorado and was also responsible for singlehandedly renovating multiple homes in the area. After moving to Missouri, he created his remodeling company, M & M Diversified, and was also a caring and responsible landlord for multiple tenants. As a handyman, there was almost no task that he wouldn’t take on rather than call someone else to do the project.
He was an outdoorsman; as a young man he enjoyed rock climbing and gold panning, and from a tender age, Michael always had a canine companion to spend his time with. Animals large and small fell under his spell, and he passed his devotion to his pets down to his son Michael. The hobby he was most passionate about was, of course, fishing. He believed that the fish bit better in Missouri than in Colorado and looked forward to every trip out on his boat.
Michael was a man of measured words. He took his time before he spoke and had an opinion on just about everything. Most of the time you could see a little playful twinkle in his eyes when he spoke about something he knew he was right about.
His thirty-three years of sobriety were his proudest personal achievement next to raising his son, Mike. Michael first got sober at meetings at the Edit House in Lakewood, Colorado and his thirty-three years of sobriety were his proudest personal achievement. He touched countless lives as a friend of Bill W.
He is survived by his son Michael Edwin Brees and his wife Rayna; his siblings Roger Brees, Tim Brees, and Laurie and their children and grandchildren. He is dearly missed and will never be forgotten.

She was born July 16, 1949 to Elton Richard and Lillian Elsie (Bungum) Graff in Austin, Minnesota. Janet was born the year when Elton, her father, decided not to farm with horses anymore and bought a tractor. It was also the year her parents had born to them their first daughter after having 3 sons. Needless to say, there was a BIG shout of joy when she came into this world!!
Thru the years Janet grew up to be a woman of many talents and careers. In grade school she received excellent grades, member of 4H earning many ribbons of excellence, and started playing violin at a young age thru her school curriculum. She figured that would be an inexpensive way to travel throughout the United States and then the World. Unfortunately, back in 1967 there was a height requirement for flight attendants. Janet was 5 foot 3 inches. You could be no shorter than 5 foot 4 inches. So, she could not do her dream. After being disappointed, she regrouped and moved to Rockford, Illinois where her older brother and family lived and was hired as a bookkeeper for City Bank of Rockford. Janet had many different jobs throughout her lifetime. Here is a list:
Baby Sat children all thru high school, Bookkeeper, Secretary for Rock Valley Community College, Personal Secretary for the President of the Rockford Airport (Janet organized Rockford Airport’s first Air Show Back in the 1980’s), Personal Secretary for 2 different Law firms, Purchase Rep for Books 4 US thru Toys R US, Taught English to Spanish speaking students thru Ida Library in Belvidere, IL, Secretary for Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA, Claims Recorder for Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance, Claims Recorder for United Health Insurance, volunteered secretary for Hope Lutheran Church in Republic, MO, Taught Sunday School, and started her very own alpaca ranch in 2017, and took care of her aging widowed Dad for 15 years.
Janet was never idle. She took various College Courses from 4 different Community Colleges in her lifetime and also learned to speak Spanish, Japanese, and Norwegian.
Janet was married in 1970 to Gerald Zdeb and was married for 10 years.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Lillian Graff of Clever, MO, 3 brothers, Douglas Graff of Purdy, MO, Bryon Graff of Rockford, IL, and Larry Graff of Clever, MO, her younger sister, Karen Bassett of Everton, MO, and niece, Rebecca Bassett of Kirkland, IL.
