Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at the First Christian Church, Bethany. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the services Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Bethany. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Martha was born November 24, 1942, in Mattoon; the daughter of Orville F. and Eden L. (Lane) Barrow. She married Larry H. Mescher on April 14, 1990; he survives. Martha was a member of the First Christian Church in Bethany, where she served as a Deacon for over 30 years, sang in the church and community choirs; she also helped with youth activities at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Larry of Bethany; nephews, Michael (Elizabeth) Bartimus of Mt. Zion and David (Julie) Bartimus of Naperville; sister-in-law, Linda (James) Bartimus of Decatur; brother-in-law, Dwaine (Jane) Mescher of Mt. Zion; she is also survived by her special friends, Keith and Nancy McReynolds.
She was preceded in death by parents and several cousins.
The family would like to give a special thanks for the care Dr. James Wade and the Cancer Care Center of Decatur gave to Martha.

Robert was born on December 4, 1930, in Ivesdale; to Horace and Mary Edith (Long) Brewer. Robert married Dora Darlene Tipsword on December 17, 1950, for 73 years of marriage; she survives. Robert was a lifelong farmer in Moultrie and Shelby Counties. He was a Bethany High School graduate, winning the state FFA mechanics award and holding the disc records for many years. Robert was a 60-year Mason member, one of the first “certified” electricians, a 20-year ASC committee member, a 50-year NRA member, a Farm Bureau member and a member of the Findlay Christian Church.
Robert and Darlene raised 5 children, the late Samuel (Linda) Brewer of Bozeman, MT, Kathy (Bill) Smith of Bethany, Debbie (the late Van) Cruit of Findlay, Mark (Justine) Brewer of Bethany and Peggy (Norm) Wood of Sullivan.
Robert is also survived by grandchildren, Jeremie (Tammy) Smith, Stephanie (Kevin) Cain, Kari (Shane) Ruppert, Jason Brewer, Dustin (Jenny) Cruit, Derek (Jenny) Cruit, Chelsey (David) Ziebler, Aaron (Asia) Wood and Kaleb (Morgan) Wood; 14 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son Samuel and son-in-law Van Cruit.

(Patty) Jones, Jr. of Oconee; daughters, Lucy Ford of Oklahoma City, OK, and Angela (Bill) Benslay of Bethany; sisters, Marsha Jarvis of Hillsboro, TN, and Cindy (Mark) Humes of Salisbury, MO. Lucy is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Krystal Dixon of Bethany; grandsons, Zachary Richards and Levi Richards; uncle, William Carmichael of Prescott, AZ; cousins, Bryce, Matt and Andy Carmichael of Arizona.

Larry was born September 27, 1940, in Decatur; the son of Paul Eugene and Olive Fern (Cox) Meredith. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Larry married Madonna Lee Dowd on February 21, 1969, in Decatur; she preceded him in death on August 24th, 2014. He was a member of the George A. Sentel Masonic Lodge #764, the Bethany American Legion Post #507, and the Decatur VFW Post #99. He was a retired Conductor for Norfolk-Southern Railroad. He enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing. Larry loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Kennette (Ron) Chenoweth, Chelie (Jamie) Petri and Larry (Melissa) Meredith; grandchildren, Nichole (Jerod) Mercer, Dustin (Tessa) Chenoweth, Brittany (Adam) Payne, Jordan (Jami) Meredith, Tyler (Morgan) Petri, Travis (Holly) Petri, Jamison Petri, Paige (Ridge) Tippit, and Devon Meredith; sisters, Karla (Arla) Thomas and Darlene Stobaugh. Larry is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.

She married Lester Hartman on March 27, 1987 in Decatur. Kathlene was a member of the Moundford Free Methodist Church, Decatur.
Kathlene is survived by her husband, Lester of Decatur; son, Phillip (Lisa) Spracklen of Bethany; daughter, Pam Smith of Decatur, AL; step-brothers, Walter Norman of Moweaqua and Lester (Jamie) Norman of North Augusta, SC; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed her family, friends and her cat Molly. Susan loved all of her “Angels” with all of her heart.
Susan is survived by her sons, William (Carol) Shain of Sullivan, Steven Shain of Champaign and Bobby (Kim) Garcia of Litchfield; daughter, Gayla (Mark) Jones of Shelbyville; sister, Vicki (Bob) Kniceley of Wheaton. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He preceded her in death on December 26, 2016. Isabelle loved her grandchildren, gardening, watching and attending Illini Basketball games and enjoyed music.
Isabelle is survived by her son, Steve Tipsword of Bethany; daughters, Linda Weddle of Bethany and Sherry Hiser of Decatur; grandchildren, Corey (Danelle) Weddle of Ames, IA, Carson (Rosario) Hiser of Bethany, Logan (Abbey) Hiser of Decatur and Cody (Ashlynne) Hiser of Decatur; 5 great grandchildren.

Peggy was the only child of Herman and Pauline Trinkle, sharing her mother’s birthday of May 5th. She married Donald Mulvany on July 20, 1963 and they share two children, Kendall and Anita.
After raising her children, Peggy worked many years at International Paper. Upon retirement, her and Don spent 16 years traveling the country in their motorhome, along with their dog Niki. They often traveled with friends, but spent their winters in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, where they met many new and dear friends.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Don, son and daughter-in-law, Kendall and Sandy Mulvany, daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Tom O’Brien, grandson and wife, Daniel and Erica Mulvany, granddaughter Alisha Eadie , granddaughter Kylie Hickmon and grandson and wife, Tom and Jessica O’Brien, along with great grandkids, Josh, Amelia, Elijah, Lyra, Karlena and Persephone.
She also leaves behind sister-in-laws Jean Clark, Carolyn Page and Dely Mulvany, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Carol and Mary Mulvany and Lindell and Brenda Mulvany, many nieces, nephews and friends, as well as her best friends, Wanda, Evelyn and Sheryll, her neighbors of almost 50 years.
Peggy was proceeded in death by her parents and grandparents, father and mother-in-law Clyde and Pansy Mulvany, brother-in-law Darrell Mulvany, grandson-in-law Abel Hickmon, her beloved cat Sweetie and beloved dog Niki.
Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Memorial Hospice, and Angela Robinson for their care and kindness and special thanks to Janice Romine for her compassion, kindness and friendship. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in rural Bethany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and riding bicycles.
Billy is survived by his wife, Arletta of Bethany; son, Larry Robbins of Allenville; daughters, Glenda Rigg of Mt. Zion and Cheryl (Mike) Kidwell of Bethany; grandchildren, Michelle (Greg) Owczarzak, Todd (Kristi) Rigg, Nathan (Sara) Robbins, Quinn (Jeremy) Richardson, Laniesa (James) Robbins, Daniel (Lauren) Kidwell, Derick (Kaylee) Robbins, Travis (Deniel) Robbins and Taylor Robbins; brothers, James, Eugene; half-brothers, Steve, Gary (Joan) and Karl (Barbara); step-brother, Kenny (Ruby) Butt; step-sisters, Doris Prater and Betty Clevenger. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Goetz Morgan of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren, David, Joshua and Chris Morgan all of Hendersonville, TN.

She was born in Bement, IL., the daughter of Charles and Tressie Rodgers Cornelius. She married Joseph V. Griffin on August 1, 1942, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Bethany, IL. She and Joseph were married for 78 years before his death in 2020.
Lena is survived by her 3 children, Valerie (Mike) Adams of Jacksonville, IL., John C. (Mary) Griffin of Ft. Collins, CO., and Starla Griffin Born of Jacksonville, IL. She leaves 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.
During WWII while her husband was serving in the European Theater, Lena left nurses training and worked at Camp Bowie as a civilian discharge nurse. Lena then returned and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria in 1945. She worked as an R.N. in Champaign, Arthur, and Kankakee State Hospital. Lee retired from Manteno State Hospital as a nurse administrator. After retiring, Lee loved to winter in Arizona and to become a gifted quilter. While residing in St. Anne, she became a member of Kankakee Needleworkers Guild and was a charter member of the Kankakee Quilter Guild. Over the years, Lee made many quilts for family members and displayed numerous quilts in the Quilters Guild annual quilt shows. Quilting was her Passion!
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held on October 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery, Bethany, in conjunction with her husband, Joseph. Military Rites will be presented by the Bethany American Legion Post #507. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery.
