Bishop Dan L. Carr - September 29, 1932 - March 05, 2024

Departed: 03/05/2024 (Crab Orchard)
Obituary Preview: Bishop Dan L. Carr, 91, of Stanford, KY passed away Tuesday March 5, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
Dan was born September 29, 1932 in Corbin, KY to the late Rev. George N. Carr and late Elizabeth Fields Carr. He was raised in Harlan, KY, with his 5 brothers and sisters who he loved dearly. He was proceeded in death by his brother Bishop Charles Carr, and sisters Mabel Bayse, and Rosetta “Jean” Wilson.
Dan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and after returning home he was called to preach the gospel. He was an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, Cleveland, TN. Dan was an evangelist and often held revivals with his father George spanning several states. He loved tent revivals the most.
At age 32 he married the love of his life, Doris Helen Short Carr. They were married at Danville Church of God on June 5, 1965. Immediately after the wedding, Dan had a revival booked the next day (what a way to spend your honeymoon!). They were married 58 years, during which they pastored Danville Church of God (Earl Street), Bernard Ridge Church of God, Lancaster Church of God, Geneva Pentecostal Church, and would retire at age 70 from Crab Orchard Church of God where they pastored 18 years. Not mention the countless revivals that he held in between pastorates and after retiring.
Dan was a collector of books, radios, watches, and electronics. He loved to go junkin’ with his wife Doris, especially in Florida where they spent winters after they retired. He loved all things sweet, but nothing compared to Christmas candy from his sister-in-law JoAnn Elliott. Spending time with his daughter, Laura, and his grandchildren, Lenna and Lauren was his favorite pastime, and he managed to put up with his sometimes favorite son-in-law Jeff.
It must be noted his passion above all else was Jesus and loving others. Countless hours were spent visiting hospitals, sitting by bedsides, officiating weddings and funerals, preaching, praying, and preparing sermons. He walked with people through some of the most joyous seasons of their lives as well as the worst. He knew how to pastor people, he loved without judgement, and shared the love of Jesus whenever he could, either by word or deed.
Dan is survived by his wife Doris, daughter Laura Finley (Jeff Finley), granddaughters Lenna and Lauren Finley as well as his brother Eddie Carr (Marguerite) and sister Lovelle Eastridge along with many nieces and nephews.
He has left a legacy of love.
