Benjamin Jones - April 28, 1943 - May 18, 2024

Departed: 05/18/2024 (Conway)
Obituary Preview: Rev. Benjamin James Jones, Jr. was born in Conway, SC on April 28, 1943. He transitioned to glory on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Conway. Before his death he had been hospitalized for about 29 years after suffering a head injury in a vehicular accident.
"Benji" was the eldest of the three sons of his late parents, B.J. and Lula Alysee Bellamy Jones. He joined and was baptized at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He attended and graduated from Whittemore High School in 1961. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and later graduated from Morris College in Sumter, SC with a B.S. degree in biology.
He was a pastoral assistant at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years, and was an educator with Horry County Schools during that same timeframe. In summer months he worked at Family Kingdom Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach, supervising rides and parking.
During his childhood he was a boy scout and explorer and was very interested in examining living things. He observed and examined the make-up of insects, particularly bees, as well as worms and frogs. He also learned to build things; dabbling in carpentry, brick masonry and mechanics. Eventually, he was able to construct a go-kart and a merry-go-round.
From his teenage years to his early to mid adulthood, he was a very successful entrepreneur. As a teenager at his childhood home on Powell Street in Conway, he would charge neighborhood kids a dime to swim in the family's swimming pool. Later he sold fireworks from a front yard stand during Christmas time, and snacks and drinks from a built-on backroom of the house at other times. As a young adult he was the proprietor of a clothing and merchandise store, Jones Variety Store, at the corner of Bayside Avenue and Temple Street in Conway. He also ran a mobile business selling shoes and other clothing items across Horry County.
"Benji" was a true man of God. He believed in the Holy Spirit, and encouraged others to have faith and trust in the Almighty. He spread the gospel wherever he went via a mobile ministry that was not confined to constructed halls and walls. He was truly a very loving person.
"Benji" leaves to cherish his memory four loving and caring daughters - Tanya L. Jones of New York, NY; Stephanie Johnson of Conway, SC; Beverly Gowans-Carter of Conway, SC; and, Mascilla Johnson of Calabash, NC; as well as 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. One grandson, Quentin Johnson, Sr., preceded him in death. "Benji's"  two brothers, Retired Staff Sergeant Donald C. Jones, who he affectionately called "Duck", and Dr. Carl E. Jones, who he affectionately called "Little Bruh", will always cherish their memories of him. A host of other relatives, friends, classmates, clergy, church members and professional colleagues now and forever will cherish the times spent with him. He will be truly missed by all who knew h

Mrs. Doris Jean Foreman Posey - July 30, 1931 - December 22, 2023

Departed: 12/22/2023 (Conway)
Obituary Preview: Doris Jean Posey lived a full life with style and verve. She was born to John Wright and Margie Foreman on July 31, 1931 in Chambers County, Alabama. After graduating from high school, Doris relocated to Nashville where she pursued her dreams to provide quality health care to others. Doris began her career as a nursing assistant and later became a licensed practical nurse (LPN) after attending Jane Adams Vocational School. She then obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing at Cuyahoga Community College. She graduated from Ursuline College with her Bachelor’s of Science in Health Administration.
Doris was an avid lover of fashion and modeled for the National Association for Negro Fashion Designers (NANFD). She loved to shop and prided herself on being fashionable and walking in stilettos. She was a passionate member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a non-profit business and professional women’s organization. She served in elected positions in the sorority at both the local and regional levels. She enjoyed attending and coordinating national, regional, and local Eta Phi Beta events and socializing with her fellow sorority sisters.
Doris loved cooking and delighted in baking and preparing large meals for family and friends. She believed that as a host you should never run out of food and made sure there was more than enough for any person who sat at her table. Doris enjoyed dining out and trying different cuisines and loved to share that with her grandchildren. Doris never met a stranger and you were destined to be subject to her wisdom, criticism, and life lessons if you had the pleasure of conversing with her. Her whip smart come backs and unfiltered truth were given to all who met her.
For much of her career as a nurse, she served in supervisory capacities and she ran a tight ship at any facility she was employed. She gave an expert level of care to all patients she encountered. Her dedication and service in the health care industry inspired her daughter to walk in her footsteps.
Doris is predeceased by her husband, Newman Posey. She is predeceased by siblings Roy Foreman and Delo Foreman and she leaves a daughter, Deborah Crawford- Butler, and three step-children: Newman Posey, Jr., Michelle Posey, DeWayne Posey (deceased) and Drew Posey (Jacquie). She leaves 7 grandchildren: Shariff (Yasmine) Crawford, Jason Butler, Nefetari (Joshua) Bladen, Amanda Butler, Drew Posey, Jr., Dashon Posey, and Shardé (Dennis) Crawford; 9 great grandchildren Kalib Crawford, Allyana Alston, Serenity Bladen, Justus Bladen, Michael Butler, Isaiah Crawford, Dennis (Trey) Bellamy III, Alliana Brown, Promise Bladen, and Angelique Bellamy; and one great-great grandchild Elijah David Seymour.
