Obituary Preview: Jackie “Jack” Miller, age 87, of Pierceton, Indiana passed away on Friday September 1, 2023 at Kosciusko Lutheran Hospital.

Jack was born on February 17, 1936 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky the son of Malcolm and Rhoda Miller. He was united in marriage to Mildred Stephens in 1954 who passed away in 1984. He married Gloria Miller in 2002 who survives.

He worked as a machinist making airplane hooks for Arnolt Corporation in Warsaw. When Arnolt closed their production Jack worked at Medtronic retiring in 1999. He enjoyed fishing and farming. He loved working in his gardening and canning his crop. Jack enjoyed watching Christian television programs and would often sing the old gospel hymn the Great Speckled Bird in church. He was a member of the Silver Lake Water of Life Church.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gloria Miller of Pierceton; sisters Gail Blevins of Ohio and Judy K. Whitaker of Kentucky; daughter Brenda (Daryl) Beattie of Bradenton, FL; stepdaughters Beth (Ben) Cass of Henderson NV, Lisa Lang of Rhinebeck, NY, and Lynn (Tom) Van Ness of Palm Bay, FL; and sister-in-law Julie Kling of Bremen, IN.

Together Jack and Gloria have one granddaughter, six grandsons, 12 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife Mildred, Jack was preceded in passing by five brothers, Lewis, Paul, Bud, Terry, and Gary Miller and three sisters, Katie Sharp, Patsy Tackett Spencer and Infant Betty.

Visitation from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday September 26, 2023 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 105 First St. Pierceton.

Funeral services in celebration of Jack’s life will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday September 27th at the Pierceton Chapel with Pastor Henry Arnett JR officiating.  Interment will follow in Grove Chapel Cemetery 8693 S. 100 W. Claypool, Indiana. The family kindly request the memorial donations to: Water of Life Church

He was a graduate of Warsaw Community High School class of 1980, where he was an avid sports player for the Tigers.

His family and friends knew him as Papaw Jim, who was a sports encyclopedia and always had the ESPN highlights on. He also enjoyed live music and was a “gearhead” who loved all things automotive. Papaw Jim loved his grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed being with his family.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his children; Chandler (Ashley) Tenney, Syracuse, Brittney (Brent) White, Leesburg and Chase (Tara Creighton) Tenney, Winona Lake; his stepmother Georgia Tenney, Pierceton; a brother Richard (Shannon) Tenney, Fort Wayne; and sisters Leslie (Troy) Stapleton, Leesburg, and Jeanene (Brian) Walls, North Webster, and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in passing by his father Robert G. “Bob” Tenney on January 13, 2022, and his mother, Christine (Sellers) Anderson on March 15, 2013.

Dorothy was born in Rensselaer on September 15, 1926, the daughter of (the late) George and Bertha (Pollex) Fleck. She graduated from Laketon High School with the Class of ’44 and on October 4, 1946, Dorothy married Alton Brown in Wabash; he preceded her in death on January 3, 1989 after 42 years of marriage.

She loved working the family farm, and also enjoyed caring for her substantial flower garden at her home. Dorothy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Rosary Society, women’s groups and the Altar Guild, where she provided fresh Altar flowers from her garden for many years. She was a dedicated wife, mother & grandmother who cherished & enjoyed her family; she was an accomplished cook & baker and known for her wonderful pies. She also enjoyed sewing and crochet, creating the baby blankets for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her children; Steven (Tami) Brown of Greenfield, Annette (Dan) Knepper of Warsaw, Stanley (Elaine) Brown of South Whitley, Scott (Kim) Brown of Warsaw, Spencer (Penny) Brown of Leesburg, Phillip Shannon (Susan) Brown of Converse and her nephew Jeff (Joie) Lotz of South Whitley; her brother, Howard Fleck of Cincinnati OH; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela Brown; grandsons, Kameron Brown and Joshua Brown; nephew, Max Lotz; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

His exact age is unknown. He was rescued from a shelter in 2018 and immediately became a part of the Hartman household. He loved to take car rides and was on a first name basis with the servers at the McDonald's drive up windows. He enjoyed swimming in the ditch and his special evening treats. Bogey was the constant companion of Grandpa Bill and a protector of the grandsons when grandpa teased them. Of all the love our family gave Bogey he returned it tenfold.
