Delores "Dolly" McGuire - January 08, 1932 - May 13, 2024

Departed: 05/13/2024 (Highland)
Obituary Preview: Delores "Dolly" Viola (Plaza) McGuire, a spirited soul who graced the earth with her presence for 92 years, died on May 13, 2024 at CrestRidge Senior Living in Dodgeville, Wis.
Born on January 8, 1932, she was the only daughter of Michael Jr. and Viola (Sobieski) Plaza. Dolly's life was colored by the hard work of rural life in South Fork, Wis. She was one of four graduates who earned a high school diploma from South Fork School in 1949, a time when many kids were needed at home for work. As a young single woman, she explored life in the city, living with family and working in Milwaukee.
Dolly tied the knot with Urban McGuire on October 28, 1955 and moved to Highland, Wis. Five children graced their home in rapid succession: Ann McGuire, Castle Rock, Wis; Peggy McGuire, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Michael (Karen) McGuire, Dakota, Minn; and twins Lisa (Dan Nondorf) McGuire, Highland, Wis., and Lee McGuire, Grand View, Wis.
She believed in hard work and as a mother of five, she worked outside the home. Dolly's Dew Drop Inn was an early venture cafe on Highland’s Main Street. Beyond the kitchen, she worked at local dental and medical clinics, volunteered with EMS and, later in life, returned to the kitchen at Highland Schools. She cherished the camaraderie of the school community over the years, both the staff and the kids.
Dolly's fiery Polish spirit shone brightly through her love for the color red and her staunch tradition of donning it on St. Patrick's Day, a subtle protest against her husband's Irish heritage. The foods of her childhood remained comfort foods for life; kapusta (cabbage) in all its forms and Easter morning borscht, a tradition carried on by family.
Dolly found joy amidst the bounty of her garden and in the hum of her lawnmower. The lively strains of polka music, especially Molly B,, kept her toes tapping. A bit of harmless gambling and traveling adventures, including skydiving, river rafting and hot air ballooning, added spice to her days, a testament to her adventurous spirit. She even enjoyed causing a bit of mischief in teaching the caregivers at CrestRidge some choice Polish words.
Dolly loved all of her grandchildren: Heather (Frank) Rose, Errin Nondorf, Lacy Zielinski, Chad Nondorf, Ethan (Marissa) McGuire, Alexandria McGuire, Hayli (Dan) Russell and Jacob McGuire. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, too: Ava, Brynn, Cora, Grayson, Anna and Reya. Dolly was proud to be twice blessed as part of five living generations following the birth of her first granddaughter and then again with her first great-granddaughter, crediting good Polish genes for the longevity.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her brother, Carl Plaza; great-granddaughters Hope and Brooke; and parents-in-law, Leo and Magdalene McGuire. Dolly will be missed by her family, including sister-in-law, Rosemary Laufenberg, and cousin and lifelong friend, Jeanette Kramer.
Her faith was steadfast as a member of the Ss. Anthony and Philip Parish. Join her family to bid her farewell and celebrate a life lived by an independent spirit on Friday, June 7, at Ss. Anthony and Philip Catholic Church in Highland, Wis. Visitation will be held from 9:45 AM until 11:45 AM, with a memorial mass following at 12 noon. Please plan to wear red in her honor.
The family wishes to thank the staff at CrestRidge Senior Living for their patient care.
Reszta w brzoskwini, Delores.

Alfred "Al" Michek - January 12, 1939 - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Highland)
Obituary Preview: Alfred “Al” Michek, Jr., 85 of Highland, died very peacefully on April 28, 2024, in the comfort of his home with family members and his wife, Rosemary, by his side. Family, faith, and service to his customers, community and country were his priorities. We shall address his life in that order.
Al was born on January 12, 1939, to Alfred and Teresa Michek; he was the fifth of seven siblings. Al married the love of his life, Rosemary (Hasburgh) Michek, on July 7, 1967. From that day forward he lived his life hand in hand with Rosemary, through sickness and health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse. They were inseparable. Together they raised a family, helped out wherever needed with extended family, built a business that focused on customer service which lasted for more than 50 years, performed countless acts of community service, shared a brandy every night together while discussing the day’s events, played countless games of cards, and enjoyed travel together, sometimes with siblings or other family members. His florist knew when he could expect an order for Rosemary and exactly what flowers he wanted sent. But his favorite times with family involved the kids and grandkids playing in the BEST back yard on Grand Street, a Weber charcoal grill, a good Ribeye or T-Bone steak along with all the fixins’ and dessert prepared by his wife (particularly a freshly-baked loaf of bread heavily smothered with butter), and “happy hour” while the grill was cooking.
Their children, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are as follows: Neil (Julie), children: Nate, Alex (Tessa), and Addie; Jeff (Teri), children: Carissa (Kurt) their children, Estie, Hudson, and Maren; Cody, and Brooke (Ryan); Jill (Kevin) Zajicek, children: Karter, and Kole (Olivia); Greg (Valerie), children: Ashton, Nolan, Jaycee, and Grayson; Todd (Amy), children: Chloe, her boys Lux and Krew; Mya, Ava, and Lucas.
Al’s siblings included Ray (Jean) Michek; Rosie (Virgil) Kosharek; Mona (Bob) Hennessey; Melvin (Kate) Michek; Bud (Ursula; Vera) Michek; and Gil (Theresa) Michek. Al’s in-laws included Theresa (Gil) Michek, Mike (Rita) Hasburgh; Dennis (Liz) Hasburgh, and Jerry (Carol) Hasburgh. The extended family of nephews, nieces, and their spouses and cousins count easily over 100. Al was preceded in death by Ray, Jean, Rosie, Virgil, Bob, Bud, Ursula, Vera, and Liz. Al was also preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Teresa, his father-in-law Eugene Hasburgh, mother-in-law Emily Hasburgh, Eugene’s second wife Doris Hasburgh, and grandson Jackson Michek.
Al was active in his service of our Lord Jesus Christ both in direct participation in Catholic Church activities, but even more so in the support of those in need. Over the years he was a Eucharistic Minister, usher, lector, and a member of the church council. He also enjoyed helping set up the church for Christmas, taking particular pride in ensuring that the Christmas trees were just right.
Al impacted the lives of everyone he met and in return his life was impacted by everyone he met. Al taught all of his children that a good day’s work would provide lasting rewards. During his years of owning and operating Michek Oil Co, along with Rosemary and son, Jeff, his focus was always on meeting the needs of the customers he served. He knew that they counted on him, and it didn’t matter whether he needed to deliver fuel in the middle of the night due to a furnace running out, or on the weekend due to a farmer needing fuel to get the crops in. When time allowed, he loved to sit down and have a cup of coffee and talk to his customers and get to know them.
Upon graduation from Highland High School in 1957, Al served two years in the United States Army. Al’s service to the community is a very long list: He was a founding member of the Highland Ambulance Service. When he retired from EMS in 2023, he had been licensed for just over 50 years, the longest active EMT in the State of Wisconsin at the time. He was an active member of the Highland Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years. He was an active member of the Highland American Legion Post and served in the delivery of military honors for as long as he was physically able. He served on the Village Board for the Village of Highland for 18 years. He served on the Board of Directors of Memorial Hospital of Iowa County (now Upland Hills) for eight years, including several years as the Board Chairman. He served on the Board of Directors of the Cobb State Bank (now Royal Bank) for approximately 20 years. He volunteered and coordinated Red Cross blood drives in Highland for many years. He volunteered at the monthly food pantry distribution conducted at the Ss. Anthony and Philip Parish Center.
Al thoroughly enjoyed life, including all of the hard work. No matter the challenges he faced, he met them head-on knowing that he had the support of his wife and family. He was a positive influence on so many, and we are so thankful we could share him with you. This obituary, like any, can’t capture an entire life of goodness. However, it is important that each and every one of us carry on our lives in the manner in which Al taught us. If you take care of each other with love and compassion the rewards are returned many times over.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ss. Anthony and Philip Church in Highland on Saturday, May 4, at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, along with full military honors. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, May 3, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. and again on Saturday from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM.

Norbert "Bob" Klar - October 13, 1928 - September 18, 2023

Departed: 09/18/2023 (Highland)
Obituary Preview: Norbert “Bob” Klar, aged 94 of Highland, WI passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023. Bob was born on October 13th, 1928 in Platteville, WI to Cyril and Hazel (Buss) Klar and was the second oldest of ten children raised on the Klar Farm south of Platteville. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley, on June 13th, 1959 in Racine, WI.
Bob was an extraordinary storyteller and never missed the opportunity to retell his incredible adventures. Bob lived an impressive and full life. Bob served with the Wisconsin Air National Guard and United States Air Force and flew in B29 Bombers while using radar during reconnaissance missions to find enemy ships and planes during the Korean War. After his military service, Bob worked at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with NASA developing navigational systems on many Apollo shuttles, including the lunar module as well as the lunar rover. If that wasn’t exciting enough, he also worked for General Motors developing electronics. He also surveyed power lines throughout the state of Wisconsin. Bob took over his family’s farm north of Highland and farmed for many years until his retirement in the early 1990’s.
Bob had numerous hobbies, which included traveling the globe with his wife Shirley, woodworking, fishing, reading and playing cards with his family. His woodworking was more of a side job, as he created numerous crafts, kids toys, puzzles, and he never went anywhere without his smart sticks, so he could challenge whoever he could. He was the first to admit when his wife out-fished him, and he was always armed with a good joke. He was a kind and compassionate soul and was always found helping others.
Bob was a disciplined father, with the hopes that his trickster ways from his youth might not rub off on his children. Bob had a habit during his early college years of hotwiring his friends’ car seats, electrifying lab tables, and relocating the rival team's mascot during homecoming.
Bob is survived by his children: Barbara (David) Stanek of Highland, Kathy (Al) Woolford of Platteville, Mike (Julie) Klar of Dodgeville, and Peggy (Doug) Bomkamp of Highland. He is further survived by his nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Hazel Klar, his beautiful bride Shirley, his brothers Francis and Richard Klar, his sisters Bonnie Iverson, Marilyn Klosterman and Jeanne Phalen, his granddaughter Shelbey Bomkamp, and many in-laws, cousins, and nephews.
The world will surely be a quieter place without his stories and laughter, and we know his memory will live on through those tales. He didn’t leave anything unsaid or any adventure undone on this wild ride.

Rita Ann Imhoff - July 04, 1929 - March 12, 2022

Departed: 03/12/2022 (Highland)
Obituary Preview: Rita Ann Imhoff July 4, 1929 ~ March 12, 2022
Rita Ann was the middle child of Mayme and Ed F. Prochaska, born on Castle Rock Ridge and grew up on Snow Bottom. Her childhood was rich with an appreciation for animals and nature, gardening, and hard work, traits she carried with her all her life. She always had a huge garden and passed on that ability to her children and her children's children, putting up the bounty for winter enjoyment. She had cherry and apple trees, a yearly radish contest with her son Bob and before that, with her brother Lavern, as well as asparagus, raspberry, and rhubarb patches beyond compare. She never met a weed she didn't like…to pull. Like her Mother before her, Rita loved roses, both traditional and wild. It was a favorite gift to her on any occasion. Sewing or mending was another trait. No knee or bottom patch was too frayed to fix. All PJs and other clothing of her children's youth were made by her. She also made the bridesmaid dresses for the weddings of Anita, Bernadette, and Kathy.
Rita Ann met Bob Imhoff at a dance and for Bob, it was love at first sight. They were married nearly 60 years when he passed in 2009. Such great memories that included watching the magic that took place every time they danced together, billions of card games of so many kinds, going to Packer games, golf games, and raising eight children, who were the greatest joy in her life. She experienced more joy as her grandchildren came into this world, enriched even more with their own children, thus continuing the family tree of life. How she loved spending time with them all.
She was an active member of the Ss. Anthony and Philip Church of Highland, where for many years she sang in the choir, helped in the kitchen or served food when needed, was a member of the Mother of Perpetual Help Rosary Makers, and taught religion for forty years. Other roles she took on include becoming an EMT, a CNA in the maternity ward at Dodgeville Hospital, a clerk at Pierick's Dry Goods Store, working at Lands’ End, and making 46 visits to the Red Cross resulting in 24 pints of her valuable Rh-negative blood. She also played the piano superbly while singing, often times at her children's bedtime. Whether singing alone or with her sisters, the experience was enchanting to all listeners.
Rita Ann was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; sister, Loretta (Pat) Thym; brothers, Bernard, Lavern, and Ervin Prochaska, sisters-in-life, Catherine Imhoff, Margaret (Henry) Busch, Mary/Dolly (Ed) Conway, Leone Reynolds, Vivian (Verne) Imhoff, Lenore (William) Fernan, Elaine (Joseph) Nondorf, Mary Jane (Charles) Messersmith, and Betty (Robert) Rooney, and brother-in-law Verne Imhoff.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Sherpe; Charlie; David (Diane); Anita (Jim) Lightfoot; Mary Ann (Randy) McGuire; Bernadette (Rodney) Carter; Robert Jr. and Kathy (Brian) Ballweg; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Roselyn (Guerdon) Voigts; Mary Ellen (Willard/Bud) Bowers; a sister-in life Jean (Ervin) Prochaska and a brother-in-law, Pat Thym; numerous nieces and nephews, and lest we forget, Babby her beloved cat.

Annie was born in Stevens Point to Jim and Joyce Fritsch on June 28, 1960. The family moved to Highland when Annie was a teenager, and she met the love of her life, Brad, while attending Highland High School. She and Brad married on June 9, 1979. Annie worked as a nurse for almost 40 years at various locations, including Richland Center, Madison, and Dodgeville; however, her nurturing personality did not stop there. She also served as an adopted mother to four foreign-exchange students: Emina Hasovic (Bosnia), Beatrice Uriate (Spain), Lisa Müller (Germany), and Michael Wallner (Austria). Annie also stole scenes as an actress in community theater, and she was handy in the kitchen—often gifting others with her jellies and jams; she was a talented crafter who knew her way around a sewing machine, and she especially had a deep love for furry creatures, rescuing several animals from local shelters.
