Ella was born December 25, 1929, in the Central Station Community of Doddridge County, WV, a daughter of the late Ezra Jacob and Corma (Dotson) Garner. She worked as a seamstress in the former garment factories of Harrisville, Pennsboro, and West Union. Ella was most proud of being a homemaker for her loving family. She greatly enjoyed reading, puzzles, gardening, canning (making homemade jelly), sewing, playing cards, quilting, crocheting, spending time with her family and friends, and her 4-legged friend, Sam.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Michael Walton (Sharon) of Williamstown, WV; Jeffrey Allen Walton of Pullman, WV, and Brian Scott Walton (Diane) of Cairo, WV; daughter in law, Brenda Walton of Greenwood, WV; her sister, Jean Ferebee; her brother, Marion “Buck” Garner (Pat); her grandchildren, Brenda Walton, James Walton, Aaron Walton, Shawn Walton (Arthur), Jason Walton (Jamie); Nikki Walton (Russell Becker), Ryan Walton (Katie), Jessica Walton, Makayla Walton (Marlin), Colton Walton, along with 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Walton Jr.; son, Ezra Burton Walton, and sister, Shirley Towner.
Graveside services will be 11am, Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, WV. McCullough Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Leslie “Ray” Freeland, 76, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024 at his Palatka, FL residence following an extended illness. A native of Pennsboro, West Virginia, Ray was a graduate of Pennsboro High School and had attended the Methodist Church in Smithville, WV. He had relocated to Putnam County, FL, only a year ago. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and following his military service, had worked as a reclamation contractor in the oil and gas production industry.
In his leisure time, Ray enjoyed his projects, his horse, listening to music, and working on antique cars—including his 1970 yellow Oldsmobile. He also enjoyed flying small aircraft and owned his own Cessna airplane. He was a very loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, John and Goldie Freeland; Ray was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Aubrey Wright.
Ray is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jacqueline Freeland; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kimberly Freeland, Matt and Lisa D. Freeland, and Mark and Lisa E. Freeland; one step-daughter and spouse, Courtney Nicole and Mike Drymple; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Sally Freeland, Pearl Leon and Linda Freeland, Gary and Cindy Freeland, and John and Renee Freeland; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosie Wright, Vera and Garvin Talkington, Judy and Eddie Hart, and Vickie and Dave Williams; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff of Haven Hospice, EMS and Fire Department responders, and the doctors who attended Leslie Ray.

He was born February, 26, 1950, in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late Victor Blaine and Belva Louise (Dilly) Noland.
Richard graduated from St. Marys High School with the class of 1968. After high school Richard married the love of his life, Sandra Kay on January 9th, 1969. He then went to work as a truck driver for over 17 years for Criss Concrete, then Smith Concrete. Richard had a passion for farming and could always be found on one of his many tractors. He even enjoyed plowing snow with his tractor during the winter. He liked hunting, weedeating, riding in the side by side with his dog, Bud, having cookouts on the open fire and roasting hot dogs. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they always brought a smile to his face.
He is survived by children, Rick Noland Jr. (Sharie), Mindy Burns, and Beth Bennett (Frank Martin) all of St. Marys, WV; grandchildren, Joey Burns, Chelsey Bennett (Bub), Ricky Noland (Brittney), Dalton Bennett (Kelsie), Abbey McCloy (Derrick), Bradley Noland, Kacey Bennett (Michael), Hope Bennett (Aaron), Haley Bennett, Meridith Bennett, Ethan Bennett, Kinzie Bennett, Nick Bennett, Megan Finley (Josh), Kayla Six, and Valerie Randoph (Scott); great grandchildren, Elizabeth Burns, Gabe Gaston, Elena Noland, Charlie Noland, Levi McCloy, Caleb McCloy, Brynnlee McCloy, Braylie Bennett, Finnley Gaston, Eston Stull, Oakley Bennett, Reese Finley, Riley Finley, Zayden Six, Isla Bennett, and Kaydence Randolph; siblings, Victor “Bart” Noland Jr. (Cheryl) and Treva Dodson; brothers-in-law, Ralph Maston (Linda) and Russell Maston (Susie).

David Robert Lawrence - February 13, 1928 - April 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: On the evening of April 19, 2024, David “Dave” Robert Lawrence, Christian follower, peacefully passed from this life in Ellenboro, WV. He was 96 years old.
Dave was born in Washburn, WV, to Archie R. and Dessie Snow (Smith) Lawrence on February 13, 1928. Following his mother’s passing, he and his two older sisters, Gene and Janie, were reared by their maternal grandparents, D.H. and Jane Smith.
On May 8, 1950, he married Grace Joanne (Morrison) Lawrence. They celebrated 73 lovely years together as husband and wife. A life-long Ritchie County resident, he dedicated much of his free time and retirement to community service, wearing many hats and always lending a helping hand.
He attended Harrisville High School, then enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from 1946–1947. In 1950, he was called to Korea as an active reservist where he was wounded and became a Purple Heart recipient. After his military service, he drove a truck for Chuck Rutherford and Joe Lambert. He had a thirty-eight year career at American Cyanamid from 1952–1990. After retirement, he delivered and picked up cars for Allen’s and other local car dealerships. He made one of his last trips when he was 89 years old with his son, Chuck. They traveled 1,070 miles in a brief 21 hours to Chicago, IL, to pick up a car. He also was the driver for the “Ritchie County Express” (Dave, Bob Wilson, Harold Shive, and Clyde Hopkins). On one occasion, when venturing deep into a rural area, they wound up needing to be rescued from an unsuccessful creek crossing. He loved being on the road!
He was also very active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church (now Pennsboro United Methodist Church) where he was a trustee, a Sunday school teacher, an usher, and the special music director, always available to help with any and all projects for the church. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter Snake State #14 and VFW Post #355. He was a Little League coach and also umpired many games. He kept score for both the Pennsboro Cardinals and Ritchie County Rebels basketball teams starting in the 1960’s, attending thousands of games until his retirement in 2004. He loved Bluegrass music, pitching horseshoes, playing dominoes and Scrabble, solving sudokus, and listening to his beloved wife’s quartet sing. He was a jokester and always had a funny story for anyone who would listen. His friends fondly referred to him as “The Mayor of Hursher’s Run.”
He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Snow, his step-mother Maverine (Doddrill) Lawrence, his beloved grandparents D.H. and Jane, his wife Grace, sisters Gene, Janie, Joretta Lou, Nadine, and Patricia, daughter-in-law Annette, son-in-law Kendall, and his beloved first grandchild David Duane.
He is survived by his four children, Carol Ann Hart (Roger), Chuck Lawrence (Lil), Dick Lawrence (Sheri), and Susie Goodwin (Kendall); brother Daryl Lawrence and his wife Ann, other sisters-in-law Mary Gay Morrison and Carol Ocheltree, brother-in-law Dave White, and his “sister-cousins” Annetta Whippen, Frances Wolfe, and Karen “Shorty” Stanley; his grandchildren, Ryan, Lee, Jay, Ashley, Zach, Megan, Liz, and Shayla; his great-grandchildren, Katie, Keylee, Darion, Alexia, Logan, Kaytie, Natalie, Seth, Drew, Madelyn, Kolt, Dax, and Cameron. He was also “Uncle Dave” to many nieces, nephews, and others who knew him.
He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at McCullough Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV. A visitation will take place from 11am-3pm, prior to the service. According to his wishes, Dave will be cremated, and his remains will be laid to rest at King Knob Cemetery near Harrisville, WV, at the convenience of the family.

She was born September 28, 1951, in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late James William and Donna Elizabeth (Davis) Maston.
Sandra was married to the love of her life, H. Richard Noland Sr. on January 9th, 1969. She went to work for Ron Casto at West Virginia Glass for several years as a glass handler. Her family was her whole life. She loved spending time with the grandchildren and the great grandchildren, and was always fixing big meals for her family.

Gordon Terry Clovis - October 27, 1936 - March 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Gordon Terry Clovis, 87, of Pennsboro, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at WVU Medicine, Camden Clark.
Terry was born October 27, 1936 in Parkersburg, WV a son of the late Arthur R. Clovis, Jr. and Georgia Maxine Cantwell Clovis. His parents and younger brother, Jerry George Clovis, preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in 1954 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Ohio University at Athens, OH. Terry was commissioned an officer in the United States Air Force where he served as a jet bomber pilot on combat crews for over eight years. Upon his discharge, he worked in various areas of management pertaining to the insurance and financial industry. For a number of years, he was the owner/operator of Clovis Farm of Deerwalk, WV until his semi-retirement in 1998.
He was a lifelong sports enthusiast, both as a spectator and a participant. In his senior years, he especially enjoyed attending local high school sporting events and his association with the Parkersburg South High School sports family. He was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity since 1956, Woodmen of the World since 1958, and a member of the Legacy Society of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation that established the Gordon Terry Clovis Memorial Masters Degree Scholarship Fund.
He is survived by his cousin, Meghan Clovis of Pennsboro, WV and dear friends, Don and Rebecca Offenberger of Parkersburg, WV.
He was baptized in the Methodist Church in his early teens and subscribed to the True Christian Faith. There will be a graveside service 11am, Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Cairo IOOF Cemetery with Chad Emrick officiating and full military honors conducted. In accordance with Terry’s wishes he was cremated and McCullough Funeral Home of Pennsboro, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Obituary Preview: With sadness in our hearts, we announce that Deborah Lynn Parsons, 68, of Cairo, WV (Glendale Community) departed this life on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at WVU Medicine Camden Clark, following an extended illness.
Deborah was born February 27, 1956 in Parkersburg, WV a daughter of the late Lloyd and Rozilla (Valentine) Prather. She worked as a loving and caring homemaker for her family. Later in life, Deborah worked for the Ritchie County Board of Education as a school aide, cook, and janitor that she took great pride in. She loved being a caregiver for the elderly and for children and greatly enjoyed trying new recipes, camping, working on her farm, and riding horses. She was a longtime member of the Glendale Woman's Club and the Goose Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lester Parsons; daughters, Rosanna Spencer and Lottie Miner (Harry) both of Cairo, WV (Glendale Community); grandchildren, Cierria Sams, Natoshia Britton (Corey), Devinn Britton, Morgan Miner, Casey Miner, Joshua Miner (Shiann); great grandchildren, Lila Britton and Jackson Miner; brother, Allen Prather (Pam) of Elizabeth, WV; adopted son, Joe Hendrickson of Cairo, WV; special niece, Cindy of Elizabeth, WV, and lifelong friend, Debbie Rummer of Longs, SC.

Obituary Preview: David Bruce Sandridge, aged 68, of Salem, West Virginia, passed away on March 18, 2024. He was born on September 30, 1955, in Cheverly, Maryland, to the late James W. Sandridge Sr. and the late Emma Louise
Sandridge. Bruce was a man of many talents and passions. He began his career as a bricklayer, showcasing his skill and dedication through his work, including his most recent role as maintenance personnel for Doddridge County Schools. His commitment to his profession was evident to all
who knew him.
Beyond his work, Bruce was a big supporter of the Doddridge Bulldogs. His love for sports extended beyond the sidelines, as he cherished
moments spent hunting, fishing, and enjoying the great outdoors. Baseball held a special place in his heart, but his enthusiasm for
running was unparalleled. Bruce's athletic ability was evident from a young age. As a High School All-American runner for Parkdale High School, he left a mark on the course, breaking records and achieving remarkable feats. Notably, in 1972, he claimed the title of Eastern States Cross Country Champion at Van Cortlandt Park, NY. He continued his running career at
Villanova and the University of Maryland. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Gaver of VA; his brother, James Sandridge Jr (Laura) of Augusta, WV; sisters Catherine Bryson of Augusta, WV; Brenda Trammell of Pennsboro, WV; Linda Whitacre (Mark) of Capon Bridge, WV; Barbara McKinney (Matt) of West Union, WV; and
godmother, Frances McColl Stewart of Courtland, VA. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Anna Stevens; his paternal grandparents, George and Anna Sandridge; and his brothers-in-law;
Jimmy Edgecomb, Billy McCauley, and Mike Trammell. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday March 26th at
McCullough Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV, with visitation from 12-1 PM.
Burial will follow the service in the Duckworth Cemetery near Greenwood, WV. Family and Friends are welcome to gather at the Greenwood Fire
Department for a meal starting at 3PM.

She was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1978. She was an avid marble and pin collector and enjoyed crafting, gardening, and being outdoors. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Jones) Hardman of Jacksonville, NC; her grandchildren, Raven, Cassie, Cole, Steven, and Olivia; brother, Jeff Hurst (Brenda) of Pennsboro, WV; sister, Pam Summers (Tom) of Pennsboro, WV; son in law, Colin Hardman of Harrisville, WV, along with her loving nieces and nephews

A celebration of life dinner will be held at the Smithville Community Building on March 30, 2024 from 4:20-7:20pm. She attended the Blandville Methodist Church and she loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, Herman Hart; sons, Terry Ross (Cricket) of West Union, WV and Earl Hart (Lisa) of New Milton, WV; daughter, Sara Burnside of New Milton, WV; grandchildren, Taylor, Teresa, Heidi, Sofia, Sadie, Kole, Kale; step grandson, Mike Montgomery and family; step granddaughter, Angie Campbell and family, and her ex-daughter in law, Dorene Hart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Smokey and Mike Ross, and her sister, Barbara Sue Stemple.

He was born July 29, 1938 in Harrisville, WV a son of the late Harold and Nellie Snodgrass Goff. Nelson attended Harrisville High School and was a veteran of the US Navy. He had previously attended the First Baptist Church in St. Marys, WV and enjoyed traveling and auto racing.
He is survived by his daughters, Marlinda Wyers (Harlan) of Pennsboro, WV and Sherry Morris (Rick) of Parkersburg, WV. Two grandsons, Michael Wyers of Virginia and William Morris of Parkersburg, WV; two sisters, Eva Johnson (Richard) of Virginia, and Linda Mashburn (John) of Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Hayward, Forest (Bud), and Wendell, and sisters, Betty Tanner, Helen Lambert, and Jean Crooks.

Harvey Lewis Cunningham - July 26, 1935 - February 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: Harvey Lewis Cunningham, 88 passed away peacefully at his home in Hebron, WV, Pleasants County, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 26, 1935 in Hanover, Pennsylvania to the late Oliver and Mary Bailey (Cunningham). He was the last surviving member of the family.
Being born during the depression Harvey left school in the 8th grade to start work in the timber business alongside of his father and brothers. He was instrumental in running electric lines in the French Creek and Calcutta areas. He worked various jobs in the Chester, and East Liverpool areas. In 1954 he married Frances Williamson and started a family. In 1963, he bought Maple Lane Farm and move the family to Hebron. Harvey drove school bus for Pleasants County Schools for 27 years and was a bus mechanic for 14 years before he retired in 2004.
Harvey was a quiet man and to truly know him you needed to spend some time with him in his element. He touched many lives and left a lasting impression on each one. He was a hard worker and was not afraid of it. Harvey had a passion for farming, raising crops, baling hay, and milking cows on the farm for 25 years. Passing the love of farming on to future generations meant a lot to him. He loved to drive John Deere tractors. Above all he was a wealth of knowledge when it came to motor repair. Harvey was self-taught and had no fear of tackling anything. From washing machines at the early age of 5 to hay balers he loved a challenge. Nothing brought a smile to his face quicker than to help a fellow farmer in a time of need by repairing their square baler and getting him back to the field before the rain came. He played guitar and liked bluegrass music. He enjoyed sitting with friends and family and sharing stories and memories of his childhood and life experiences.
Along with his wife of 69 years Frances, he is survived by his 3 children, daughter Deborah and Keith Hadley, sons Kevin Cunningham (Angela Dotson), Eric and Audra Cunningham all of Hebron, WV; grandchildren, Sarah Hadley, Jesse (Amanda) Hadley, Heidi Cunningham, Joshua (Nikki) Cunningham, Erica (Tony) Bennett, Nathan (Karley) Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Paisley and Marshall Hadley, Xxavier, Jaydan, and Bentley Cunningham, Callie and Luke Bennett, Yaden, Kyleigh, Bexley and Kalem Cunningham.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Grace (Bob) Dawson, 7 brothers, Denton (Erma), Robert (Anna Mary), Arthur (Lola) William (Marjorie), Harry (Carol), James (Cleora), and Clayton (Janice) Cunningham. Many nieces and nephews, and close friends Chuck and Mary Jane Hunt.
A service will be held at 11am, on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at McCullough Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV with Pastor Tom Blake officiating Burial will follow at the Maple Lane Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 2pm-8pm on Friday, the night prior.

Paul completed his childhood dream of becoming a truck driver and traveling across the country. He drove truck for years, until he was unable to anymore. He loved to race and watch others race, rather that be go carts or dirt track racing. He also liked riding motorcycles, his favorite being the Honda Goldwing. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his best friend and son, Cody.
He is survived by his children, Cody Wickham (Elizabeth) of Pennsboro, WV, Ronald Wickham of North Carolina, and Kimberly Jones (Scott) of Massillon, OH; grandchildren, Leah and Kylie Neely; siblings, Carl Murphy, Sue Johnston, and William Trader.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Adams.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lynne Galvan Logan of Apollo, PA; son, Kenneth Joseph (Amanda) Galvan of Saxonburg, PA; Grandchildren Colton Edward (Christina) Logan, Clinton Kyle Logan, Clayton Kenneth (Carley) Logan, Tyler James Galvan, and Mia Rose Galvan; Great-grandchildren Annalise Mae Rust, Lorelei Sue Logan, Dexter Reed Logan, Ethan Edward Logan, Marlee Noelle Logan, and Owen Kyle Logan; a niece and nephews; and her companion Dennis Afanador.

He liked to cook, going squirrel hunting with his wife and son, and always dreamed of building his own cabin. Mathaniel was known for being friendly and would strike up a conversation with anyone.

Gail was born April 16, 1949 in Greenwood, WV, a son of the late Wilford and Gaynell (Fletcher) Cogar. Gail was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served his country during the Vietnam War era where he earned a Purple Heart. He later retired from the United States Army where he had served as detachment 1st Sgt. for 20 years. Following his military career, he worked for the United States post office where he served as a mail carrier in Parkersburg, WV for 20 years. He was a member of the Arnolds Creek Christian Church and in the early 2010s, Gail joined the Pennsboro Vol. Fire Dept and was very active up until 2019 when his health declined. He greatly enjoyed his 1948 Plymouth, feeding the deer, woodworking, and talking on the CB radio.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia L. (George) Cogar; children, Linda Cuciniello (Tony) of Cross Lanes, WV; Brenda Wainwright (Brian) of Newtown, VA; Teresa Donley (Charles) of Central Station, WV, and Aaron Cogar (Ellen) of Paden City, WV; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Gene Cogar of Cabin Run, WV; Raymond Cogar of Davisville, WV, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Emma Louise Sandridge, aged 89, of Greenwood, West Virginia, embarked on her final journey on a day of special significance - her 89th birthday, October 18, 2023, at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on the same date in 1934, in the heart of Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late William V. and Anna M. (Gallagher) Stevens. Emma dedicated most of her life as a loving and caring homemaker for her family. During her time in Maryland, she worked at Highs Dairy Store and Subway. Later, in Greenwood, West Virginia, she and her late companion owned Frank’s Diner. They were also devoted members of the Real Life Ministries Church.
Emma was a woman of many passions and talents. She was well known for her cakes, creating cakes for weddings, birthdays and special events. She loved tending to her garden, sewing, caring for her animals, including her devoted Lady Bug, and her cat, Itsy. In her younger years, baseball and softball games were among her cherished pastimes. Most importantly, Emma's love and devotion to her family was her greatest joy.
Emma is survived by her children: James Sandridge II (Laura) of Augusta, WV; David Bruce Sandridge of Salem, WV; Catherine Bryson of Augusta, WV; Brenda Trammell of Pennsboro, WV; Linda Whitacre (Mark) of Capon Bridge, WV; and Barbara McKinney (Matt) of West Union, WV. Her legacy continues through 29 loving grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Anne “Teenie” Huffman of Lanham, MD, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her companion, Frank Hubbard, as well as her grandson, Nathan Joshua Trammell; granddaughter, Melissa Ann Bryson; great-great-granddaughter, Olivia Ann Bryson; and brothers, William Raymond Stevens, William Vernon Stevens, Jr., and James Eugene Stevens; and her son-in-laws: Michael Trammell Sr., James “Jimmy” Edgecomb, and William “Billy” McCauley Sr.
The celebration of Emma's life will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the McCullough Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro, West Virginia, where her son, James Sandridge II, will officiate the service. Following this, she will be laid to rest at Duckworth Cemetery near Greenwood, West Virginia. Prior to the service, a visitation period will be from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. The family will gather at the Ellenboro Community Building following the burial.

She owned and operated Jackie’s Beauty Shop in Chelyan, WV and later she helped fill in at the former Creative Cut N Curl of West Union, WV. She greatly enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working in her flower gardens, and making ceramics. She was also an avid bowler and golfer. She attended the Chelyan Baptist Church, the Briar Creek Tabernacle, and most recently the Emmanuel Methodist Church of West Union, WV. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Britton whom were married on May 4, 1957; her daughter, Bonita Whitehair (Donald) of the Leeson Run Community of Doddridge County, WV; granddaughter, Missy Whitehair of the Cabin Run Community of Doddridge County, WV; great grandchildren, Alexia Whitehair and Kavon Newman; sisters, Joan Altizer (Doug) of Barboursville, WV and Kathy Holland (Kent) of Ormond Beach, FL, along with her dear friend, Anita Wilson of Greenville, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Whitehair in 2010; brother, Teddy Lusk, and step sister, Juanita Ball.
