Obituary Preview: Frances O. Gonzales was born November 1933 to Lola Sandoval and Antonio Olmos in Miami, Arizona.

She had fond memories of her beloved great-grandfather and her grandmother. Frances had a large family around her there in the small town.

She had many aunts, uncles and cousins. They had family roots in New Mexico.

Sometime around the start of World War II, Frances with her family moved out west to California. They lived mainly in the Los Angeles area. She did spend sometime living in Santa Maria, CA on the coast north of Los Angeles. She enjoyed telling her own children what these areas used to look like ‘way back then’.

Frances went to high school in Los Aneles County and met her future husband, Alex V. Gonzales there in her neighborhood. The two of them later married in 1952.

The couple went on to have 6 children and 6 grandchildren. Her husband, Alex, predeceased her as well as many other family members.

Her favorite job was home caretaker for Dick Clark. She worked for the Clark’s for several years and was always a big fan. She adored them and they were good to her.

After retirement, she and Alex moved to Harstine Island, WA.

In her lifetime she enjoyed drinking glasses of icy coca-cola at the corner drug store, meeting new friends, going to the movies, chatting, taking care of her pets, light gardening, shopping, sewing quilt tops and car rides. Frances also liked watching movies and television (T.V.), listening to music from her younger years, reading and working on crossword puzzles. She enjoyed parties and…...especially visits from her grandchildren.

Frances will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Virginia Gravatt Peterson Blauvelt (Ginny)

Virginia was the first of four daughters born to Harold and Marjorie Gravatt on October 5,1940 and she died on May 12, 2024 at home in Shelton. She spent her childhood at Lake Quinault. She married Gary (Pete) Peterson with whom she had four children. She and Pete divorced; later she married Dick Blauvelt and they had one son. Ginny and Dick spent 20 years living in Alaska, primarily on the Kenai Peninsula and Thorne Bay, Prince of Wales Island, where Ginny continued her lifelong working in mills and with wood products, sometimes specializing in what she called “music wood,” making guitar soundboards.

In 2010 after Dick’s death, Virginia moved to Shelton to live with her daughter Dorothy Jane. Later her daughter Tracey moved there too and Ginny enjoyed the conscientious care she received from them.

Ginny is survived by her 5 children: Dorothy Jane and Tracey Peterson of Shelton, Gary Robin and Harold Peterson (Patty) of Tacoma and Walt Blauvelt (Brandi) of Anchor Point, Alaska. She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Ginny is also survived by her 3 sisters, Jane Fishel (Dale), Carolyn Bowles and Marnie Schumacher (John.) She is also survived by a dear friend and helper, Idy Almos.

From a young age Ginny loved animals, especially horses and dogs and had cats named Marmalade and Napa, who she found at an auto parts store. While living in Alaska she taught herself to knit and also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

There will be a private family celebration of Virginia’s life later in the summer.

Arden was a lifetime resident of Mason County. During his early years of growing up on the Hood Canal, he developed his love of the great outdoors. He served in the U.S. Army, as a medic in the Korean War and went on to have a successful career as a Christmas tree grower, owner and operator of his own tree farms. In 1979, he wed his wife of 45 years, Faye. After retirement he and Faye traveled all over the United States in their motor home. They especially loved visiting Alaska. Arden John Pierce was known for his kindness, and his

giving, generous personality. He had a love for his pets and spending time at Mason Lake with his family and friends.

Arden will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Faye, daughters, Cindy Ramsfield (Jay), Tina Pierce, Linda Drogmund (Rob), Lori Davis (Dave), and Cathy Crabtree (Shawn). Arden loved his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Rick Warren.

Born on December 21, 1930, in Olympia, WA to George Sylvan and Elizabeth Richards Lycan of Tenino, she was a lifelong resident of the Olympia area. Eleanor graduated from Tenino High School and Western Washington University. She married William (Bill) J. Ward, Sr., her high school sweetheart, in 1952. They were married for 57 years until Bill's passing in 2009.

Eleanor was a teacher in the Tumwater School district for nearly 30 years. In addition to teaching, she was a devoted coach’s wife for football, basketball, track, and golf. In 1991, she retired from teaching and operated Top O’ the Morning Espresso & Deli with her husband and family for several years. Eleanor loved the beach, gatherings with family and friends, and taking trips with her kids and grandkids. She regularly enjoyed recreational swimming, singing, and dancing with Bud and friends. Eleanor was a gifted and caring individual, who always greeted people with a smile, hug and laugh to immediately make you feel at home.

Eleanor is survived by her three children Bill (Janine) Ward, Louisa (Alan) Shimamoto and Patrick (Cheri) Ward; grandchildren Kevin (Jenny) Ward, Erin Ward (Kellen Harris), Kyle Ward, Kalani (Kelsey) Bunda-Shimamoto, Elizabeth Shimamoto; great-grandchildren Jack, Talie, Kase, Calla, Ryan; sister Enid Dempster and sister-in-law Marge Lycan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Bill, sister Elaine McDonald, brother Edward Lycan, and sister-in-law Marge Hopwood.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Mills & Mills Funeral Park in Tumwater on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 12 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at Rivers Edge restaurant in Tumwater at 1:30 pm.
