Rex Kenton Thompson - December 28, 1949 - May 22, 2023

Departed: 05/22/2023 (Calhoun)
Obituary Preview: Rex Kenton Thompson, 73, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023. He was born on December 28, 1949, in Verdunville, West Virginia, to the late James Harold Sr. and Evelyn Mae Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rhonda L. Thompson; son, Mark (Alisa) Thompson of Wheeling, West Virginia; brother, James (Joy) Thompson Jr. of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Robert (Kayley) Thompson of Morgantown, West Virginia, Savannah Thompson of Calhoun, Georgia, Abigail Thompson of Wheeling, West Virginia, Emma Thompson of Wheeling, West Virginia; nephew, Michael Thompson of Cleveland, Tennessee; the Cleaning Stuff family and friends.
Rex was born in a West Virginia coal camp house with four rooms and a path. Some of his earliest memories were "holding the light" as his father added a bathroom and indoor plumbing to the house.
Rex began working full-time jobs while in high school to have money for a car. His first car was a 1951 Jaguar XK120 two-seater sports car that he bought from a local millionaire for $500 that now sells for some $250,000.
With the Vietnam War raging, he enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school graduation, as college seemed an impossible economic option. In 1968 and 1969, Rex served with the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. Rex was diagnosed with several forms of cancer in 2011 due to "agent orange" exposure during his time in combat in Vietnam.
In his business career, he was President of four companies. He met the love of his life through business. Rex and Rhonda married in 2000 and soon chose to leave the security of working for big companies and use their combined talents to start their own business, "Cleaning Stuff," marketing janitor supplies nationally over the Internet.
His passions were always first, the love for his family and second, West Virginia University football! He also loved carpentry, learned from his grandfathers and a love for cars.
Rex felt his life could not have been happier because he succeeded to love and be loved and found self-worth.
The United States Marine Corps will provide a memorial service with military honors at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00 am.
The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Rex Thompson.
