Gregory Dean McCormick - January 22, 1967 - March 26, 2022

Departed: 03/26/2022 (Montclair)
Obituary Preview: Gregory Dean McCormick was called home to glory suddenly on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
Gregory was born January 22, 1967 and grew up in Montclair, New Jersey.  He matriculated in the Montclair public school system and was a graduate of Montclair High School where he wrestled and excelled at football.  For a brief time, he attended Essex County College. Greg loved nothing more than going with his family on their frequent trips to Lake Hopatcong and to Red Bank for fishing and crabbing. He was such a fishing enthusiast, he would take the bus on his own down to Belmar, NJ to cast his line.  Greg also enjoyed fellowshipping with his family where food was involved! There are quite a few excellent cooks in this family!  In his youth, you could often find him at 19 Wheeler Street hanging out with his Grandma Bea (Beatrice McCormick), down in Bloomfield with Uncle Junie and Aunt Josephine, over on Tennis Place with his Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Wilbert or on the corner of Claremont and N. Willow at Grand Mama’s.    You may have seen him spending time at Aunt Leafy’s house in Orange, NJ.  However, growing up, Greg was often in the company of his cousin and Best Friend, Billy, who was truly, as he would say, his “Road Dog”!  Gregory was a fierce protector and defender of his younger siblings, Joey and ‘Riss’ and would do absolutely anything for them.  It was not out of the ordinary for Greg to show up at one’s door bearing gifts. He continued this manner of sharing throughout his life.
As a child, Gregory invited Jesus into his heart, was baptized and became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he sang in the youth choir and played basketball with the Baptist Youth Fellowship.  He was a beautiful child of God who demonstrated Christ’s love by his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, especially someone older.  Greg was known in the community as a person you could count on to assist with various tasks such as bringing in groceries from the car, unloading a delivery truck and running errands.  He worked for a time at Kings Supermarket in Verona, a job he truly enjoyed, and recently was a regular volunteer distributing food at the soup kitchen at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Elmwood Avenue, in Montclair.
Gregory is predeceased by his brother Bryon Joseph Andrews and his mother, Beatrice Margo Andrews and Maternal Aunt Sylvia Spivey (Rev. Wilbert Spivey-deceased).  He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Rev. Joseph Andrews, Step-mother, Adrienne Andrews, his sister, Marisa Gabrielle Andrews, Maternal Aunt, Josephine Haskall (Junie Haskall-deceased), Paternal Uncles Vincent Andrews and Michael Andrews (Patricia), Paternal Aunt Jacinta Gullieum (Julian Gullieum-deceased) plus numerous cousins, extended family members, friends and neighbors.
So when we think about your life, We won’t dwell upon its close; We’ll remember all the good times, And forget about life’s blows. We’ll remember all the happiness, The joy and not the tears; The assurance and the confidence, And not irrational fears. Our lives have all been better, Because you have been there; So now we leave your memory, In God’s all-loving care.

Tom K Robinson - February 13, 1934 - December 31, 2021

Departed: 12/31/2021 (Montclair)
Obituary Preview: On Friday, December 31st, 2021, Tom Karl Robinson I, devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather passed away at 87.
Tom was born on February 13th, 1934 in Mountainside Hospital, Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Sadie and Benjamin Robinson. Longtime resident of Montclair, he graduated from Montclair High School in 1951; he served in the U.S Army as a Private 1st Class. After returning to Montclair, he encountered and soon courted the love of his life and future wife, Miss Ada Roberts. They married on August 25th, 1963, and from their union came Tom Karl Robinson II.
Tom’s primary career was a production plant manager; he worked for many manufacturing companies such as Art Metal and Hartz Mountain. Driven and resourceful, he always sought ways to learn and grow; from owning his own trucking business to investing in real estate; his ingenuity led him down many professional paths. While pursuing these endeavors and providing for his family, he returned to school earning both his Associate’s at Essex County College and his Bachelor’s at Rutgers University.
Tom is best known for his passion for classic cars. A car aficionado and self-taught master mechanic, he would often recount to family and friends (and all who would listen) learning how to drive at a young age, participating in amateur racing circuits, and restoring antique vehicles. Known to some as the “Buick man”, he was a proud Buick owner that revelled in his personal restoration of at least 6 of them, the first being a 1942 Buick Special. His collection also included classic beauties like the 1961 “Deuce and a quarter” Electra 225 and, his pride and joy, the 1941 Buick Limited Limousine- of which he owned only one of seven in the entire country.
From his automobile ardor, Tom also founded, along with eight other car enthusiasts, The Nostalgic Automobile Society of Montclair(NASM) and served as the president of the club for 31 years. In addition to enjoying national car exhibitions and local “cruise nights”, he would often bring along his wife and family to parades and cultural events. Sometimes he would even convey a bride and groom to their reception in one of his antique cars, including his grandson with his wife. Nearly 60 years married themselves, Tom and Ada set the example for an unbreakable union. This loving bond was on display to all when Tom was “cruising” with his one and only.
Tom will be remembered for his great sense of humor, kindness, patience and all of the qualities that are the true attributes of a man of substance and character. Patterson and Maude Patterson.  He was the eldest of four children, Earl, Lois, Maude and Jean.  He married Sarah Patterson in June 1968 and began to reside in West Orange, NJ and Oak Bluffs, MA for the summers. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community. They provide an opportunity to honor and celebrate the person's life, and can be a meaningful way to process grief.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend writes the obituary, although it may also be written by a funeral home or other organization. In some cases, the deceased person may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, and surviving family members. It may also include hobbies, interests, achievements, and other personal details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's usually between 100-500 words. The most important thing is to include the essential information and any personal details that help tell the story of the person's life.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to add a personal touch and help readers visualize the person being remembered.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

The process for submitting an obituary varies by newspaper, but typically involves contacting the newspaper's obituary department or using their online submission form. Be sure to check their guidelines for length, format, and deadlines.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for a long time?

Absolutely! While it's common to write an obituary shortly after someone passes away, there's no time limit on when you can write one. You may want to consider writing an obituary for a loved one who passed away years ago as a way to honor their memory and share their story with others.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life and legacy.
