Obituary Preview: Age 76, of Mt. Morris, died Sunday, May 19, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am, Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Flint. Fr. Carl Simon to officiate, with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Mawrisio’s family will be present to receive friends from 11:00am to 8:00pm, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services. At 7:00pm, family, friends, and parish will gather to pray the Rosary. On Wednesday morning, Mawrisio will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Mawrisio “John” was born in Saginaw on January 3, 1948, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix and Epiphania (Vasquis) Gatica. Educated locally, John attended Beecher High School. Heeding the call of duty, John enlisted into the United States Army on October 22, 1968, and proudly served during the Vietnam War. While serving, Specialist Mawrisio “John” Gatica earned his National Defense Service Medal, Marksmanship - M-14, Sharpshooter - M-16, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and two Overseas Service Bars. Specialist Mawrisio “John” Gatica received his honorable discharge on May 25, 1970. John met the love of his life, Shirley Fursiter, and the two were united in marriage on November 3, 1969. Upon his return to the States, John started his career working at General Motors where he worked on the Assembly Line until his retirement. John enjoyed drinking his Grey Goose Vodka and orange juice that he kept mixed in the refrigerator. He loved woodworking and building things with his hands. John could often be seen fishing in the U.P. in Seney at the duck refuge. John loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews camping as well as going on casino trips with his cousins, especially to the Paradise Casino. John loved “cheating” at poker while playing with his family and playing croquet in the yard. He had a fantastic sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his beloved wife of 54 years, Shirley; children: Tanya (Ricky), Candice, Michelle (Anthony); grandchildren: Courtney (Justin), Ashley (Nate), Zack (Autumn), Chanz, Chase; great-grandchildren: Caleb, Ryker, Ava, Myla, Nola; sisters: Connie (Mike), Gloria; brother, Felix (Ester); several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Randy was born on June 12, 1952, in Newberg, Oregon, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Beldon and Beverly (Petit) Hasselblad. Randy proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1969 during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Germany as a Postal Clerk until his discharge in 1972. On August 24, 1979, Randy married the love of his life, Gayle Calhoun, in Springfield, Oregon. Randy was the proud owner of his own business, New Horizons Painting, and also enjoyed working as a truck driver as well as he worked for Asbestos Abatement. Painting was his passion. He loved to take old “dog houses” and turn them into “doll houses.” Randy proudly professed his life to Christ. Going to car shows was one of his favorite pastimes. Randy was the proud owner of several classic cars and enjoyed showing them off at car shows where he won several trophies including one for his ’42 Plymouth. Randy had a hot rod that could throw flames and enjoyed entertaining his family by lighting bonfires with his car. Randy also was a lover of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and was the proud owner of over 28 bikes over the years. Randy was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time at home with his family, including his puppies. Randy was the most complimentary man you would ever meet. He always had something nice to say to others. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed. She lived in Royal Oak and worked at Hollywood Market before living out her final years in Mount Morris, MI. Anne enjoyed gardening and her Bichon Frisé dogs.

Billy was born in Flint on July 11, 1946, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Mary (Butterfield) Templeton. Educated locally, Billy graduated from Flint Northern High School with the Class of 1964. Billy's career path would lead him to AT&T, where he worked as a supervisor for the company for 35 years, until his retirement. On November 14, 1988, Billy married the love of his life, Lila “Lou” Sammons. Billy loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, or boating, everyone knew outside was Billy's happy place. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family. He taught his beloved grandchildren how to fish, golf, bowl, and play softball. He loved coaching their little league. Billy enjoyed traveling and took many trips to the mountains, Las Vegas, and the Upper Peninsula. He also owned several racehorses and had a love for his dogs. But most of all, Billy loved his wife, children, and grandchildren and will be dearly missed.

Donald “Donny” was born in Flint on July 8, 1953, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arlus and Mildred (Wright) Daniel. Educated locally, he attended Clio High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. After graduation, Donny began his career working at General Motors-Buick Division as a Technician for 22 years, until his retirement in 1998. Donny was active in many sports from the time he was in high school until after his graduation. He was a real athlete and played basketball as well as softball on a men’s league for the UAW, shooting pool and playing shuffleboard. There wasn’t a sport that he tried that he didn’t excel at. Donny not only enjoyed playing sports, he was also an avid watcher of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, as well as watched the NCAA matches. Donny enjoyed playing cards like Euchre, online poker, and KENO. Donny was a very social person and loved to be around his friends and community, but especially his family. He was the kindest most loving soul you would ever meet and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Donny’s memory are his brothers: Arlus Daniel, Terry and wife, Paula Daniel, and Teddy Daniels; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Dale was born on December 11, 1955, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce and Joyce (Witter) La May. Educated locally, Dale graduated from Hamady High School with the Class of 1974. Dale would pursue a career in the trucking industry, working as a long-haul truck driver. Proud of his Native American Heritage, Dale was a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe. Dale enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He spent many years bowling in several bowling leagues. He also enjoyed shooting pool. When he felt luck was on his side, Dale enjoyed going to the casino to play Poker or Blackjack. Dale was a huge animal lover, his faithful companion, Dusti, was always by his side.

Eugene was born on April 24, 1935, in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Florence (LeBeau) Fish. Educated locally, Eugene graduated from St. Michael’s Catholic School with the Class of 1953. In 1958, Eugene was drafted into the United States Army where he served in Korea during Peacetime until his honorable discharge in 1960. Upon his return to the States, Eugene continued his education and obtained his master’s degree from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Connecticut. Eugene was a member of the Church of the Holy Family and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He started his career as a carpenter at GMI until his retirement. Eugene was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time outdoors. As a carpenter, Eugene loved woodworking and building cabinetry. He was a very social person and was musically inclined and loved to sing. Eugene had a heart for others and donated to over 40 charities in the United States as well as overseas. Eugene was an avid traveler and has taken many trips to Europe including his favorite places, Rome and Italy. In his free time, he enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish Eugene’s memory are his children: Lori (Mike) Wiskur, Terri (Rollie) Gilbert, Jean Marie (Phil) Nobach; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Bertha was born on October 20, 1926, in Norman, Oklahoma, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Rosie (Mayhan) Hopkins. Educated in Oklahoma, Bertha graduated with the Class of 1944. Bertha met and married the love of her life, Wallace Lloyd. Their union was blessed with eight beautiful children. Sadly, he preceded her in death in May 1980. Bertha worked for General Motors, AC Spark Plug Division for 30 years until her retirement. Berth had a strong faith and loved the Lord. She enjoyed reading her Bible and Christian novels. Bertha was up for any new adventure, including learning how to Ballroom Dance, where she traveled and competed all over the county. Spending time in her garden planting her vegetables or just going for her daily walk was something she looked forward to. Bertha was an amazing seamstress and made many outfits for her grandchildren as well as aprons and pillows to name a few. In her free time, Bertha enjoyed coloring, painting, and thrift shopping. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Frank was born on February 4, 1953, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Noreen (Januska) Talas. Frank proudly enlisted in the United States Army on April 29, 1977, where he served in Alaska during Vietnam until his honorable discharge on March 25, 1985. Upon his return to the States, Frank obtained many skills and also became a certified RV technician where he worked until his retirement. Frank met his beautiful wife, Phyllis Mitchell, and the two were united in marriage on February 2, 1974, at Snow Hill Chapel in Fort Richardson, Alaska. Frank loved to fish anywhere he could find water. He also enjoyed art projects and building and painting models. History was his favorite hobby. He was very knowledgeable and enjoyed learning as much as he could about history. Frank enjoyed listening to many genres of music and was very eclectic. He had an amazing collection of baseball hats. Frank was a survivalist and a huge animal lover of all kinds. In his free time, Frank enjoyed playing World of Warcraft. He will be greatly missed.

Jenny met the love of her life, George Hayes, through a mutual friend and they were united in marriage on June 12, 1976, at St. Frances Catholic Church. Jenny was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and grandmother. Spending time with her family was her favorite pastime. Her granddaughter was her pride and joy. Jenny enjoyed going on road trips. One of those road trips included taking her granddaughter to the Mall of America. Jenny also enjoyed going to Bingo every Friday night for many years. In her free time, Jenny enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles, sewing, cross-stitch, coloring, and reading. She will be greatly missed.

Ryder was born February 20, 2017, in Flint, the son of Mr. Michael Liggins and Ms. Jenna White. Ryder loved all things Paw Patrol, and Rubble was his favorite character. Watching his shows on his tablet and lining up his letters were just some of the things he enjoyed. Ryder loved snacks, especially Cheez-Its and Pringles. He always had a bowl of snacks next to him. Ryder also loved drinking milk. Learning and going to autism therapy were the highlight of Ryder's days. Swinging, jumping on the trampoline, playing with bubbles and swimming in his pool are just some of Ryder's favorite activities. Ryder loved to snuggle under a blanket. He was very smart and clever. He loved to go on car rides where he could stick his hand out the window to feel the air through his fingers. When he was on a car ride, he enjoyed going fast and loved the hills that "tickled his tummy." Ryder was a gentle, loving little boy and will be greatly missed.

Kenneth was born in Hillsborough, Oregon, on March 23, 1959, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth and Elizabeth (Sauer) Parker. Educated in Oregon, he attended Vernonia High School and graduated with the Class of 1977. After graduation, Kenneth would pursue a career in the safety and maintenance field; eventually leading him to J&J BMAR, working in management. His skill set would lead him to Japan, where they incorporated his training for their OSHA certifications. Kenneth met the love of his life, Pamela Kleinmark, and the two have been inseparable for 23 years. He was a very intelligent man and loved to read and learn new things. Kenneth was an exotic foodie and enjoyed trying a variety of unique foods. He recently took up a love for grilling and became a wonderful grill master and grill smoker. Kenneth enjoyed tinkering with his 1970 Roadrunner car, working on it and fixing it up in his free time to ensure it was at its best for racing. The faster the better was always Kenneth's motto. In his younger years, Kenneth enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, and to this day was an avid woodworker. His favorite pastime was shooting his bow and guns. Kenneth also enjoyed exercising and taking care of his pool. He was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Patricia “Patty” was born in Flint on May 21, 1962, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman and Phyllis (Gilbert) Stewart. Educated locally, Patty graduated from Elisabeth Ann Johnson High School with the Class of 1980. After high school, she went on to obtain her optician certificate and became a Certified Optician, where she used her talent at several places, with her longest place of employment being Neuenfeldt Eye Care. Patty married the love of her life, Ronald Konieczka, on April 11, 2003. She enjoyed attending Country Music Concerts as well as some Rock and Roll Concerts. Patty enjoyed traveling and spent several years watching the birds and wildlife at the cabin Up North in Glennie. She was a member of the Clio Eagles and enjoyed spending time with her friends there. Patty just bought her winter home in Florida this year and enjoyed her time spent there. Patty had many hobbies and interests that included going on cruises, Morell mushroom hunting, Bluegill fishing, tubing trips, bowling, and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Patty was well known for the love and care she gave to her plants. She especially loved her Christmas cactus. She loved spending time with her family and could often be found playing games with her grandkids like Skip-Bo and Euchre. Her most recent favorite game was Cribbage. She was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Eve was employed with the State of Michigan at MESC for more than 20 years and was the best typist at the agency. She was a longtime member of Dom Polski. She loved going on deer cruises with her husband, Mike, playing Euchre with friends, gardening, mowing her large lawn, going out to eat with her MESC friends, and telling jokes to anyone who would listen. Eve also enjoyed singing the theme songs to old television shows such as Green Acres, playing KENO, and Break the Box with her husband Mike. She will be greatly missed.

Earline was born in Paragould, Arkansas, on November 13, 1937, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Monnie (Akins) Chunn. Educated locally, Earline graduated from Beecher High School with the Class of 1955 and went on to obtain college courses through Mott Community College. Earline was married to her first husband, Robert Leroy Cross, for 10 years, until his passing on Sept 15, 1967. Being left to raise her four children, God sent her a husband, Ernest Loucks. Together, they raised their nine children. In her younger years, Earline was saved and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a Billy Graham revival at the high school in Paragould, Arkansas, and was Baptized in a local pond. Earline was a longtime member of North End Baptist Church. After she raised her children, she began working outside of the home. Her work included Michigan Bell Telephone Company and several retail positions, but her favorite job was working at the library. She was an avid reader and loved books, so the library was her home away from home. Earline was a member of the Red Hat Society. Traveling to Texas to visit her family, and camping at her cabin in Gladwin were just some of the hobbies she enjoyed. Among the other hobbies she enjoyed, Earline loved to sew, complete crossword puzzles, and go clothes shopping. She was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed.

On May 28, 1965, Sally married Dennis Maher. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 16, 2006. Sally worked for AC Spark Plug until she had her children. She then stayed home and raised them until they entered high school. At that time, she went back into the working field where she held many positions in retail, restaurants, and group homes. Taking care of people was her passion. She played a huge role in raising her grandchildren throughout their childhood. Sally was an active member of New Beginning Missionary Church in Mt. Morris for many years. In her younger years, Sally enjoyed going clogging with her sister, traveling to Northern Michigan, and canoeing down the Au Sable River. Sally loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling down South to visit her relatives. One of Sally’s favorite hobbies was going thrifting and to garage sales. She passed that passion down to her daughter and granddaughters. She also enjoyed spending time at the casino in Standish. Sally was a lover of animals and any stray that showed up at her door was never turned away. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all.

He also spent some time working as a truck driver. There wasn’t much he wasn’t able to do. Wally loved to take his boat out on the water and go fishing all day. Walleye was his favorite fish so he always tried to find places where they were, but it didn’t matter much to him, as long as he was able to go fishing and could teach his favorite people to fish. Wally also enjoyed camping and playing darts. Watching the Detroit Lions was his passion, and he never missed a game. He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. Wally was a wonderful family man who loved his dogs, nieces, and nephews. He was known as all of their favorite uncle and the best Papa Wally. He will be dearly missed.

She absolutely adored working with the public, and making a new friend every chance she had. Jill was a long-time member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3609 in Clio. In her free time, Jill enjoyed shooting pool, gardening, traveling, crafting, watching sports, boating, and being social. Jill also enjoyed completing word puzzles, playing board games and shooting dice with friends while enjoying a few adult beverages. Despite many tribulations throughout her lifetime, Jill was a genuinely happy person who enjoyed making others around her happy.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: son, Michael Wright; daughter, Kelly and son-in-law, Joe Ross, her beloved grandchildren: Ryan and Madayln; all three of her siblings; aunts, uncles, cousins, and two nieces and a nephew; as well as her dog, Piper.
