Jessie Rebecca "Becky" Newlin - February 01, 1945 - May 18, 2024

Departed: 05/18/2024 (Elk City)
Obituary Preview: Proud Mexican immigrants, Joseph and Mary Borjas, brought Jessie Rebecca “Becky” into this world as the first and only girl of seven children on February 1, 1945 in Chanute, Kansas. Becky went to walk the streets of Heaven Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Inspired by her parents’ determination and her father’s service to our country in the military during World War II and the Korean War, Becky quickly pursued a college education after graduating from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1963. It is at Central State College (aka University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond, Oklahoma, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Language in 1967, and also met her husband, Ed Newlin, during her Senior year.
Ed and Becky were married on June 9, 1967 and moved to Cushing, Oklahoma where they both taught school for five years. They started their family in 1969 with the birth of twins, Rhonda and Ronald, and added their second daughter, Renee, four years later. Ed’s career change into commercial printing moved the family to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1972. In Elk City, both Ed and Becky became very involved in the Jaycees organization. She was an active member of the Women’s Guild at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. As well as held many positions within the Beta Sigma Phi organization.
Becky helped establish a Hispanic group, G.I. Forum, in Elk City in 1975 with the support of the Oklahoma City Chapter because her parents were members of that chapter. She held many officer positions, including President, while involved and made many lifelong friends from that group.
Becky was the Founder of the local Zeta Zeta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota (Teacher organization), which was established in 1995 and was their first President. She was also the History Chair for the State of Oklahoma Kappa Kappa Iota.
Becky was known by her students as “Senora` Newlin” where she taught for twenty four years in Oklahoma (she taught Spanish, English, French, Yearbook/Newspaper, and also received Teacher of the Year during her teaching career in Elk City). She also taught for ten years in Kansas before retiring.
Even after retirement, Becky continued her involvement holding many Chair positions within the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA). Some of her recent positions over the last few years include the following: Chairman of Volunteer Hours Committee, Regional 3 Empathy Chair, and Philanthropy Chair.
Though not driven by accolades, her commitment to her community led to numerous recognitions by peers as well as a special acknowledgment by the Governor of the State of Oklahoma in 1979. Becky was selected as one of three “Outstanding Young Oklahoma Women.” She served on the Oklahoma Hispanic Leadership Board, then was recommended for the Western Oklahoma State College Board of Regents, where she served a term of seven years. Becky was the first Hispanic to serve on a State College Board of Regents in the State of Oklahoma.
While being retired, she enjoyed exploring and camping with Ed, spending a weekend at their home in Arkansas, and traveling to see her children and grandchildren in Texas and Washington. Becky always looked forward to seeing her Coffee Group (Steel Magnolias) friends on Friday afternoons and spending the afternoon with her Lunch Bunch friends (Wednesday Lunch Group and the Mexican Ladies).
Becky’s service to others was only surpassed by her deep faith and the love of her family. Many have been blessed by the grace of her presence, and her influence will still exist for many years to come.

Bill graduated high school in Canadian and was recruited to play football for numerous universities from South California to the East Coast. Bill ended up choosing to play football at Oklahoma University. He said he chose OU because, being a small-town boy, he wanted to stay closer to home.
Bill and his high school sweetheart, Betty Schaef were married. Their union was blessed with three sons, Billie Wayne, Lonnie, and Scott. At a later date, Bill attended Sul Ross to obtain his Masters in Education.

He led a colorful and adventurous life, eventually leaving his coaching position and moving his young family from Texas to Walla Walla, then later Toppinish, WA while spending a few years in the banking business and teaching accounting at the Walla Walla State Prison. He played the electric guitar and would sing different songs to his boys, a favorite of his being "Church in the Wildwood'. While in Washington State they owned a vineyard and sold their concord grapes to the Welch's Company.
He brought the family back to Miami, Texas, seven years later when his father had a stroke so they could run the family ranch. He  started up an oilfield company, Hines 57, a fiberglass business, and several other businesses. He later moved his fiberglass business from Texas to Oklahoma during the oil boom.
Bill re-entered Education again, returning in 1990 as a coach, at the request of some school board members. A few years after is when he transitioned to a Principal's position. Bill is survived by his three sons, Billy Wayne and wife, Cathy of Elkhart, Kansas, Lonnie and wife, Laura of Brownwood, T, Scott and wife Sherrie of Elk City OK, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, nieces Kathy Liedtke (Doug), and Charisse Topper, and nephew Garrett Helton, along with extended family and friends

Born on January 27, 1935, in Cement, Oklahoma, Carolyn was the daughter of William Charles and Willie Pearl (Cobb) Smith. She attended Cement schools as a child where she met the love of her life Lloyd Purcy Walker and married him on January 18, 1951. Their marriage was a love story that spanned an incredible 72 years. Alongside Purcy, she built a life rooted in entrepreneurship, owning Walker Oil and various gas stations as well as founding her own cosmetics line, Vree Cosmetics.
Carolyn's life was a testament to the power of faith and community. As an active member of the First Assembly of God Church, she dedicated herself to serving others through teaching Sunday School and played an active role with the Women’s Missionary, Missionettes, and Sweet Adelines.
Her passions stretched beyond her faith and community. Whether lifting spirits through gospel song alongside her son Purcy, tending her garden and cooking homemade feasts for her family, she found joy in the simple things in life. In every season of her life, Carolyn's greatest treasure was her family. Whether fishing under the warm summer sun at the farm west of Elk City or chasing her grandkids down the mountain snow skiing in Breckenridge, from making homemade plum jelly and Christmas candy to hosting family weenie roasts down by the creek, she cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carolyn's legacy is one of love, faith, and boundless generosity. Though she has left us on this earth, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness and grace. May her memory inspire us to treasure each moment, embrace life's simple pleasures, and love deeply, just as she did.
