Obituary Preview: Arroyo Grande native Geraldine E. Quaresma,87, died at home on April 2, 2022. She was born to Santino and Louisa Cecchetti, at home in rural Arroyo Grande, CA on May 30, 1934. Their seventh child, two children having died in infancy.
Gerrie, as she was known in adulthood, attended and graduated from Branch Elementary and Arroyo Grande Union High School, class of 1951, where she was active in chorus and school newspaper staff. She was active in St Patrick’s Church, choir and the Altar Society, serving in several offices, Huasna School parents, St. Patrick’s School and Parents Club, and Genealogy Society. She began studying genealogy in 1967 and continued until her death, tracing her family and her husband’s family. Gerrie enjoyed cooking, flower arranging, oil painting, cross stitch, knitting and crochet, crafts, singing, music. She played the piano, organ and accordion for her own entertainment. Gerrie and her husband loved to travel and made several trips to visit their daughter and son when they were in the military. She also made several solo trips to Alaska and a trip to the East Coast with her sister, Ida.
She wrote a book for her grandchildren “The Grandkid Book” about her and her husband’s growing up and early marriage years. She also wrote an accompanying cookbook, “Granny Q’s Kitchen” with family and new found recipes, both of which were recently reprinted.
Gerrie was a devoted sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. The most important things in Gerrie’s life were her family, friends and her Catholic faith.
She was not an athlete and detested exercising. She often told us that had God wanted her to exercise, He would have encouraged His disciples to write an exercise book instead of the Bible. Later in life, se recanted and regretted not being more fit.
Gerrie is survived by her children: Terry (Mike) Peterson of Arroyo Grande, Tina (Wade) Howatt of Bloomfield, KY, Mark (Bettina) Quaresma of Arroyo Grande and Neal (Jean) Quaresma of Arizona. Her 12 grandchildren; Matt Peterson, Erin Peterson, Joseph (Summer) Quaresma, Neal Jr (Jessica) Quaresma, Nick Quaresma, Chris (Rebecca) Howatt, Brittany Quaresma, Ashley Quaresma, Mary (Jeremiah) Johnson, Kyle Quaresma, Sarah (Joshua) Edwards and Eric Howatt. Eighteen great-grandchildren; Jeremy Mitchell, Grace Peterson, Dillon Quaresma-Uc, Ethan Quaresma, Alexis Quaresma, Adam Quaresma, Kyliegh Quaresma, Justin Peterson, Bradley Quaresma, Cora Edwards, Emily Quaresma, James Edwards, Beau Quaresma, Austin Johnson, Rowdy Peterson, Carissa Howatt, Nevaeh Nodal and James Peterson. 1 great-great grandchild Elijah Mitchell.  She is also survived by her Greats-of-the-Heart; Valerie, Jocelyn, Trey II, Castiel, Mason, Johnny, Jameson and Kolton, several cousins, many much loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephew (s, and lots of dear friends.
Gerrie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 38 years, Bill, hear dear son Dennis, grandson Alex, parents Santino and Luisa Cecchetti, siblings; Ida (Tony) Gularte, Nellie (Manuel) Gularte, Ada (Waldron) Grant and George (Elsie) Cecchetti, as well as members of her husband’s family.
Family and friends are invited to Viewing 4pm and Rosary 6pm to be held on Friday April 8, Marshall Spoo, Grover Beach. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s; Church, Saturday April 9, 11am, with reception to be in parish hall immediately following. Burial will take place, Monday April 11, 1 pm AG Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: William Brooks was called to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 31, 2022.  Born on February 6, 1929, William was a native to Oklahoma and moved to California in April, 1942.  Bill served in the Army during the Korean War, VFW Post 97 Bakersfield. At 16, he became a Merchant Marine and traveled to Italy, Philippines and South America. Coming from very difficult beginnings, the grace of God allowed William Brooks to forge his legacy in the oil service industry. His own inventions proved to be pioneering at the time and he was able to found Brooks Oilfield Services. In addition, he loved sailing and took great passion in being on the ocean, especially with his family.  Until the Lord called him home, he used his quick wit to make his family and many friends smile and told stories of his core beliefs; hard work, honesty and perseverance. He is survived by his son, Stephen (Earlene) Brooks; son-in-law, Rod Paine; grandchildren, Justin (Kate) Brooks, Jessica (Nessen) Schmidt, Scott (Stephanie) Paine, Mark (Nancy) Paine, David (Devin) Paine; his brother, Albert (Dorothy) Brooks of Arizona, nieces Sandy and Donna, as well as 8 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Brooks, his daughter, Jenise Paine, and his mother, Jesse Brooks. Visitation will be at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 8th, 2022 from 9 am to 11 am. The memorial service will begin at 11 am. A private family burial will follow.

Obituary Preview: Betty Jane Whittaker, 78, of Grover Beach, California passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. She summoned all her strength, stayed positive, and never complained throughout it all.
Betty grew up in Grover Beach enjoying the sand dune roads, catching horny toads, and spending time having fun in Pismo Beach. She attended local schools in Oceano, Pismo Beach, and Arroyo Grande. In youth and young adulthood she enjoyed playing softball, roller hockey, and women’s roller derby. She loved music especially songs sung by Elvis Presley and Jimmy Swaggart. Dancing to songs of her youth brought her great pleasure. She was always happy to dance a little jig, swing, twist, or twirl.
In 1959, Betty married Kenneth Whittaker, her devoted  husband of almost 63 years. For 25 years, Betty bowled with her Tuesday morning team at the Pismo Bowl. Betty’s main focus throughout her life was her family. Whether it be for triumphs and success, or trials and tribulations, Betty would always be there  to support any member of her family, immediate or extended. Most of her adult life was spent being a homemaker while occasionally working a part-time job because she enjoyed it and the friends she made. Over the years, Betty and Kenny built several custom homes designed to their liking to enjoy the good life. Kenny would call Betty a Fairy Princess or Miss Prissy, because he treated her like one.
Betty Whittaker is survived by her loving and devoted husband of almost 63 years Kenneth Whittaker of Grover Beach, Daughters: Kimberly Mills and husband Larry of San Luis Obispo, Kristie Whittaker and fiancé Caleb Russell of Chino Valley, Arizona, and  Son: Jeffrey Whittaker of Santa Maria, Grandchildren: Lindsay Mills, Joshua Mills and wife Kyndra, Colton Mills, Kelsey Prevatt, and Grant Prevatt, Great-Grandchildren: Callie Prevatt and Paisley Alba, Sisters: Shirley Allcorn and Karen “Kay” Oliveira, nephews: Lester Allcorn and wife Kelli, Gary Allcorn and wife Karen, Chad Oliveira and wife Amie, Richard Oliveira and Niece Jennifer Ney and husband John  and Baby Puppy Roxy. Betty is predeceased by her parents Cleo and Ruby, daughter Janice, and brothers Cleo Jr., Gary, John, and Tommy. Betty’s family will have a small private family service to celebrate her life.

Obituary Preview: Linda Tourdot of Arroyo Grande, California, died March 26, 2022. She was 64 years old.
Born May 30, 1957 to Marilyn and Don Tourdot in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Linda was proud to back the Beavers and found her Packer community wherever she lived.
The Reedsburg library was where Linda fell in love with books, and she always had one close by.
Linda became Lulu to her siblings as a nickname, but in the end, Lulu was on the lips of her many new friends. And she was a good and loyal friend, very generous and kind.
Lulu was always the one animals came to first, so her gentle soul was recognized often during her visits to the dog park.
Lulu’s home-going was sad but tender and just what she wanted, surrounded by family who loved her, laughing, talking, comforting.
She is survived by sisters Kathy, Nancy, and Sandi and brother Paul. Also her loving stepmom Fran, nieces Dana and Taylor, nephews Jackson, Austin and Justin. Important in-laws Stacey, Jeff and Eron round out the family Lulu cherished. Auntie Bev continues to inspire and comfort us all.

Obituary Preview: Martha Elizabeth Pearson, age 91, of San Luis Obispo, CA went to be with the Lord March 24, 2022. She was born to John and Rosanna Mosier on June 11, 1930 in Madison, Indiana. She married Taylor Pearson on December 2, 1950 in Marion County, Indiana. Her daughter Debi was born in 1954 and daughter Dinah in 1957. In 1960 the family moved to Arizona, first to Mesa and then Scottsdale. In the 80’s, Martha and Taylor moved for a short stint to Olathe, KS before returning to Scottsdale. Martha and Taylor moved to Morro Bay, CA in 1994 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. In 1998, Martha and Taylor moved to Arroyo Grande, CA. Martha lived her life dedicated to the service of the Lord Jesus Christ by volunteering for Nazarene Church Outreach Services. She served at Biltmore Nazarene in Phoenix, AZ., College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, KS, El Morro Church of the Nazarene in Los Osos, CA and New Life Community Church in Pismo Beach, CA. Martha was preceded in death by her parents Rosanna and John and her husband of 58 years, Taylor. She is survived by two daughters, Debi Pearson of San Diego, CA and Dinah Davison (Brian) of Atascadero, CA; four grandchildren, Renay Behrmann (Nathan) of Boise, ID, Staci King (Zack) of Atascadero, CA, Bryce Davison (Kristian) of Chico, CA, and Brandon Davison (Ilse) of Tigard, OR; and, eleven great grandchildren, Kaeli, Alyssa, Ian, Leanna, Zoey, Collin, Charlotte, Oliver, Christopher, Lucas and Haley.

Obituary Preview: Shannon was born in December 1969 in Fresno, CA and passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022 in Arroyo Grande, CA. He is survived by his daughter, Keirsten Clay, grandson Elijah Konig, granddaughter Christine Clay and Keirsten's mother Charlotte Story, all from Brownwood, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Jeffreys, Mandy Connley, brother Jason Jeffreys, all from Fresno, CA.  Shannon was a long time resident of Grover Beach and Oceano.  He is remembered as the owner of "Flashbacks" a popular antique and collectible business on Front St. in Oceano that he ran for many years.  A favorite of his customers at Flashbacks was the Quarter Room. He had many friends in the Oceano area and was well known for his hard work ethic, sense of humor, and positive attitude even during the hard times.  He loved visiting with people and helping out with chores and projects. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.  He loved music and would walk around singing Elvis songs and other favorites from 38 Special. Shannon's daughter Keirsten says: "I remember him taking me to the beach a lot, singing to me a lot, and that his favorite song to sing to me every night was "Loosely" by 38 Special. He taught me how his job ran. I remember him and Leah buying me my Christmas bears every year I was with him. I remember him teaching me how to play pool, "the right way" whatever that means. I also remember his walk and crooked grin and that he always carried the world's largest bundle of keys on his belt loop.  I remember our dog duke and our cat Sassy. He would always tell me my mom was the most beautiful person he ever met and was happy that they created me and brought me into the world."  Shannon will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  There will be a memorial service in Oceano, date to be announced soon. Obituary Preview: Aurelia Cabatic -Nartatez, "AURING", passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on March 23, 2022. She was 81 years of age.
Aurelia was born in San Vicente Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines on October 24th, 1940. She was the youngest of the seven children of the late Narcizo Cabatic and Gregoria Rabot-Cabatic. She married Patrocinio Arenas Nartatez, a Businessman, on June 1961. Aurelia helped raise her three children Alexander Sr, Marites and Noraliza, with patience, discipline and humility. They managed their own business to provide everything and send their three children to college.
In 1989, Aurelia and husband Patrocinio, moved to the United States of America. She worked in several different companies from Philippines to USA and the last was at Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo, as Human Services in ICU Department until she retired in 2012.
Aurelia is survived by her daughter Marites and Son-in-law Chris Jacaban; another daughter Noraliza and fiance Scott Naten; nine grandchildren; Aeron Nartatez, Zyra Nartatez, Xyruz Nartatez, Ivan Nartatez, Joanna Nartatez, Kristina Jacaban, Alexander Nartatez Jr., Ian Nartatez and Ashley Jacaban and four great grandchildren Jacob, Jaiden, Kyzia and Serenity Durso. She was preceded in death by her husband Patrocinio and only son Alexander Sr. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and also who knew her.
Last viewing will be held on March 29th, Tuesday 4:00pm at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel. Catholic Mass is scheduled at St. Patrick's Church, Arroyo Grande at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Arroyo Grande Cemetery.

Perez  November 25, 1948 - March 16, 2022                                  TIME IS EVERYTHING:                      TIME IS QUALITY                                    -Javier Bardem- Robert (Bobby) R. Perez, 73, was called to meet with our Lord on March 16, 2022 in Nipomo, California. Bobby passed away peacefully at home, with his sister Linda by his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer.  Bobby was born on November 25, 1948  to the late Joe Regalado & Rosie Rodriguez Perez.  He was a native Californian.  He made Texas his home away from home.  Bobby graduated from Chaffey High School, Class 1966. He went directly from High School into the US Army. He was deployed to Vietnam and served as 1st Cav LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) 5th Special Forces.   His accomplishments were many. He took an early retirement to  care for his step-mother, the late Elsie Perez who suffered from Alzheimers.  He loved  & was devoted to all of his family.  Always to welcome everyone and was never without a smile.  Family and friends always reached out to him for various reasons. He was always there for each of them.  Most importantly,  Bobby's shining light was his  daughter, Tisha Anne Perez. They are now together, as she greeted her Daddy at Heavens door.  Bobby was an extremely devoted and loving son to his Mom, Dad, Brothers and Sisters.  He is preceded in death by his Daughter, Tisha Anne Perez, Father Joe R. Perez,  Mother, Rosie R. Perez.  Brothers, Ray R. Perez,  Joe R. Perez.  Step Mother, Elsie Perez.  Survivors are his 2 sisters and 1 Step Sister.  Linda P. Wilson of Nipomo, California, Joanne Vicory of Emory, Texas and Step-Sister,  Margaret Walker of Nipomo, California. Sister-in-laws Linda Perez (Joe) & Debbie Perez (Ray).   Niece's, Cara (Robert) J. Pat was born in Paso Robles on March 17th 1945, to Claire and Dudley Elliott and was the youngest of 4 children.  He graduated from Atascadero high school, where he met his future wife, Marilyn, and then attended Mortuary College in San Francisco.  After college he spent his career working in San Luis Obispo County Funeral homes either as owner or employee; and finished his career at the SLO County Sheriff’s Coroner’s office.  He contributed and volunteered to the community through many different school, church and social organizations, usually leading a BBQ crew.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Jerry Elliott and son-in-law Michael Miller.  He is survived by his sister Joyce (Jerry) Decou, brother Terry (Georgiana) Elliott, wife Marilyn Cooper Elliott, daughters Kelly Escobar, Claire (Andy) Fetyko, Melanie Miller, Patrice (Dan) Hagstrom, Catherine Elliott and son Michael (Christina) Elliott.  Grandchildren, Alex (Cassie) Ortiz, Samantha Escobar, Madison, Chase and Spencer Fetyko, Cameron (Cheyanna) Miller, Parker and Peyton Hagstrom, Abilene Elliott, Connor Anderson and Great Grandson, Liam Ortiz.
As Pat would say, at this time “the bladder behind my eyes is acting up.” Let us all cherish the wonderful memories as Pat’s legacy lives on through his family, friends, and community.

Obituary Preview: Daniel Carl Fink, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 72, on October 28th, 2021. Danny was very proud to be an Arroyo Grande native. Growing up he was active in 4H, and even became a grand champion with his prized lamb. He graduated from AG high school in 1967 where he was involved in many sports and clubs including, marching band, football, tennis, and baseball. He continued playing baseball after high school in the semi-pros and passed his talent as an amazing pitcher to his son.
He was stationed in Vietnam from 1970-1971 as Military Police, achieving the rank of Spc4 for the United States Army. Shortly after returning home from overseas service, he met and married Debbie Marie Morris (49 years). He is survived by his wife and best friend, Debbie, their son, Daniel Jr, and their daughters, Tudie (Marshawn), Brittni (Nick), his sister, Judy (George), and his grandchildren, Jaydon, Marshawn Jr, Myles, Bella, Braxton and Warren, along with several brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dan is predeceased by his parents, Francis and Mary Lou Fink.
Dan took great pride in running his ranch and horse boarding facility on his 5 acres, and the tight-knit community he created. He loved riding horses, BBQing, holidays, watching sports, family get-togethers, and the small things in life like banana splits and almond roca. His biggest joy in life was being with his kids and grandkids and watching all their sporting events and activities as their #1 fan. Dan was a helper, and someone you could always depend on.
