Visitacion Marinas - May 07, 1928 - February 10, 2023

Departed: 02/10/2023 (Whiting)
Obituary Preview: In the company of her family and friends, Visitacion Marinas entered eternal life on February 10, 2023 at 12:30pm. Her final days illuminated the fingerprints left on the lives she touched. Her daughters recounted how their parents would regularly host family and friends for large gatherings in the Philippines. Visitacion would spend all day cooking in preparation and delight in the company of those she loved. Her grandchildren laughed while reminiscing on all the lessons they learned from her, usually in the form of an airborne slipper launched in their direction. Her friends praised her devotion to God and the Church of Christ community. She was always sure to attend service even while traveling on vacation. Together, these stories spoke to a life that was unburdened by excess, but that was celebrated by others for its peaceful simplicity.
Visitacion Marinas is survived by her four daughters, Lourdes, Paz, Deborah, and Girlie; her son, Mark; her sister, Pat; and several adoring grandchildren, Leng, Michael, Sara, Ojhay, Joshua, Jason, Gabriel, Brent, Ysabella, Jersey, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren. Let us all share in her example of loving the small things we are given and the people in our lives with whom we are truly blessed.
A viewing for those who wish to pay their respects will be held at Manchester Funeral Home in Whiting, New Jersey from 12pm to 3pm on February 12, 2023. Entombment FEB 13 (ET) Whiting Memorial Park 600 Route 530 Whiting, NJ 08759

Ellen Ilene McCambley - August 17, 1942 - December 18, 2022

Departed: 12/18/2022 (Whiting)
Obituary Preview: McCAMBLEY, Ellen Irene
Passed away on December 18, 2022, at Aristacare in Whiting, New Jersey. Born August 17, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to William Norbert McCambley, Sr. and Muriel Kent (Bartlett) McCambley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Andrea Lorenz D'Alessandro, Sr. Dana Elise McCambley, SSJ; brother William Norbert McCambley, Jr.; and dear aunt, Norma Dale Bartlett of Whiting.
Ellen is survived by her siblings: Sr. Anne McCambley, SSJ, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Carla Ortegon (Pedro), of Greenwood, Indiana; Rosemary (Jack) Conners, of Pennsauken, New Jersey; Maris McCambley (Mark Fowler), of South Charleston, West Virginia; and Joseph McCambley (Joan Zimmerman), of Fairfield, Connecticut. Ellen is also survived by the nieces and nephews whom she loved to care for as children and visit with as adults: Marta and Dana; Sean, Chris, and Jay; Elisabeth and Michael; Kate, Mary, Kevin, and Gregg; and Luke, Will, Jake, and Elysse.
She will be mourned and deeply missed by her lifelong friends and beloved cousins, Sr. Nora Cunningham and Rita Cunningham, as well as her extended Canadian clan, with whom she took every opportunity to visit at the McCambley family homestead in Venosta, Quebec, Canada.
Ellen spent her earliest years with her large family in a tiny Philadelphia rowhouse on North Hollywood Street, attending Corpus Christi Elementary School and Hallahan High School, before the family's move to Northeast Philadelphia.
As a student at the new Cardinal Dougherty High School, she threw herself wholeheartedly into both studies and extracurricular activities, becoming captain of the girls basketball team (despite a hip disability that kept her on crutches) and editor of the student yearbook. In her spare time, she roped her sisters into appearing with her in musicals at the social hall of their new parish, Presentation B.V.M.
Upon graduation in 1961, Ellen became a teacher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School, where two successive classes of fifth graders had the privilege of learning from a talented, creative, patient, and intelligent woman. In the Autumn of 1963, Ellen was called to join the Dominican Sisters of Elkins Park. For six years, she dedicated her life to furthering the religious, educational, and ministerial mission of the Sisters, before returning to life as a layperson. As an educational consultant for the Archdiocese of New York, her work resulted in the establishment of a Lay Leadership development center on New York's Lower East Side.
After her move to Manhattan, Ellen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College, CUNY in New York in 1975, and was awarded a Master of Arts degree from Fordham University in Bronx, New York in 1977. She was fortunate to have a wide and varied career, encompassing the academic, religious, business, and political arenas. At every stage, she sought to find the light that resides in each of us, and to nurture that light into a force for good in a troubled world. Her raison de'tre was the releasing of the creative spirit that is trapped under layers of life experience. She saw the creative spark in young children, which gradually dulled as they grew older, and was convinced that this creative flame needed to be rekindled.
While Program Director at the American Management Association, she drew upon the expertise of well-known management experts, such as Peter Drucker, to educate CEO members on critical issues. However, Ellen's managerial and educational talents became manifest during her tenure at Bell Atlantic Corporation and its successive iterations (NYNEX and Verizon). There, after planning, creating, and managing a technologically state-of-the-art corporate law library for in-house counsel, she turned her talents to implementing the Accelerated Succession Affirmative Action Pilot, designed to recognize and promote talented minority and female employees. As Executive Development Staff Director, she was prescient in introducing executives to the benefits of distance learning via the Electronic University, and teleconferencing via the Bell Atlantic network. And as Tuition Plan Administrator, she spearheaded the Education Assistance Program that brought continuing education programs to a multitude of employees via home study, distance learning, and on-site classes.
In her spare time, Ellen volunteered her considerable talents to the New York State Ministerial Advisory Board, the Religious Society of Friends New York Yearly Meeting, and the Powell House Retreat and Conference Center.
Visitation will be held at The Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 11 a.m. - 1 pm. Interment will follow at the Church of Elizabeth Ann Seton, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ. Family and friends will gather immediately afterwards at Heritage Family Restaurant, 108 Lacey Road, Whiting NJ.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The primary purpose of an obituary is to share the news of someone's passing with others, providing essential details about their life and legacy. It also serves as a way to honor and celebrate the deceased person's life, achievements, and contributions.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries are often written by family members, close friends, or a funeral home's staff. In some cases, a professional obituary writer may be hired to craft the notice.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also mention any notable achievements, awards, or charitable work.

How long should an obituary be?

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides a more detailed account of the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help personalize the notice and provide a visual tribute to the deceased.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can ensure that your life story is told accurately and with your own voice.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the person's passing, you can opt for a private obituary or limit its distribution to specific individuals or groups.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including meaningful quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and personality to the obituary.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an obituary?

If you discover an error in an already-published obituary, contact the newspaper or online platform immediately to request corrections. They may issue a revised version or publish a correction notice.

What if I want to include a charity or memorial fund in the obituary?

Can I republish an obituary at a later date?

In some cases, you may be able to republish an obituary on significant dates such as anniversaries or birthdays. Check with the original publication source for their policies on republication.

How do I find old obituaries?
