Departed: 12/26/2023 (Malverne)
Obituary Preview: Your life started with your dear Mom and Dad and brother Roddy (Gerard) in Borough Park Brooklyn. Oh the memories were tremendous. You had wonderful ALONGI and LiCausi families who always stayed together and shared much love. You were a Boy Scout. You played softball, ice hockey and even won a golden glove award. You were a great athlete. You worked many jobs: driving trucks all over the tri-state area, driving Hasidic children on busses to school, working at the famous CooCoo Mike’s in Sunset Park.
Sure you hit a rough patch but came to Long Island to straighten out and straighten out you did. You attended Apex school and became an air conditioning heating specialist at Martack.  And you always loved the Yankees and the Giants; Yankees more! You learned to know and love Jesus. You met me while in Malverne and our friendship grew into marriage. You ‘found’ Akitas while visiting my house upstate and a new love was born. You and I grew into each other’s families with deep love and respect. I loved our lives together. I loved meeting your dear treasured Brooklyn friends; they are now my friends too.
We had 35 years of friendship and 32 years of marriage. You and I taught each other so many valuable things. My love for you grows every day. I miss you but will carry on with you in my heart and lovely memories. So glad we had each other for the time that we did; my crazy funny Valentine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online, or in a funeral program to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the passing. They can also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the death, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, an obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. The writer will gather information from the family and create a concise and respectful summary of the person's life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary should include the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, and any notable achievements or accomplishments. It may also include information about surviving family members, memorial services, and charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's preferences. Typically, it should be around 100-200 words, but some publications may allow for longer or shorter notices.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the notice and provide a visual memory of the person.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication and the length of the notice. Some newspapers and online platforms offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge by the word or line.

Can I write my own obituary?

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed notice that includes biographical information and other details about the person's life.

Can I publish an obituary online?

If you notice errors or inaccuracies in an obituary after it's been published, it's usually possible to make corrections. However, this may depend on the publication's policies and deadlines.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publish an obituary publicly, you can still create one for private distribution among family and friends. You can also choose to publish it online with privacy settings that restrict access.

Can I include humor or personality in an obituary?

In some cases, yes. If new information becomes available after an obituary has been published, you may be able to update it with corrections or additions. However, this may depend on the publication's policies and deadlines.

What if I want to write a longer tribute or memoir instead of an obituary?

Can I republish an old obituary from years ago?
