Brenda Brossett - May 13, 1950 - April 04, 2024

Departed: 04/04/2024 (Stigler)
Obituary Preview: Brenda Gail (Greenhaw) Brossett was born May 13, 1950 to William “Willie” and Millie “Ellean” (Tate) Greenhaw in Porum, Oklahoma. At the age of 73, she made her passage to Heaven on April 4, 2024 from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Brenda is survived by: Three daughters: Crystal Fisher and fiancé, Alan Jackson, of Porum, OK Amanda Campbell of Freeport, Texas Felicia Montgomery and husband, John, of Porum, OK One son: Jason Phillips and wife, Shawna, of Eufaula, OK Two sisters: Kathy Belanger and husband, Joseph, of Warner, OK Doris Blankenship and husband, Curt, of Muskogee, OK One brother: J.L. Greenhaw and wife, Oleta, of Porum, OK Nineteen grandchildren Sixteen great grandchildren Ten nieces and nephews Sixteen great nieces and great nephews and many great-great nieces and great-great nephews Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Brossett, Jr.; her parents, Willie and Ellean Greenhaw; her brothers, Dwayne Greenhaw and Dexter Greenhaw; and her grandson, Justin Phillips,
Brenda loved and honored her parents. Being the only girl for 15 years, she was definitely Daddy’s girl. In fact, Brenda was one of four children for several years before her parents decided to have two more children. Brenda became a mother hen to her baby sisters, taking them with her whenever and wherever she could. Brenda was a nurturing soul. She loved people and loved to talk. She spent many years in the customer service industry, from nursing homes to grocery stores. Brenda loved God and He blessed her with such a beautiful gift in her love of others.
Brenda also loved to garden. It was not an uncommon sight to see her tilling her own garden, planting and reaping her crops. She was no stranger to work (being the daughter of Willie and Ellean), in fact, you rarely saw her still. She never let the fruit of her harvest go to waste. She loved to can her bountiful crops and share them with loved ones.
Brenda was a fantastic cook and she enjoyed doing it. She made the best desserts around. The only downside to her good cooking, from the kids’ point of view, was that she gave them adult sized portions of food during meals and expected them to eat every bite before they could leave the table. Rumor is that the kids became pros at “hiding” food.
Brenda loved her family beyond measure. She was blessed with three daughters and one son of her own. When they gave her grandchildren, she was in Heaven! That mother hen mode kicked in again and she loved and nurtured each one. She was so happy with her family and felt so blessed that God gave each of them to her.
When Brenda became ill with dementia, she was taken care of by her children. During her last years, Felicia Montgomery, her daughter, and Sasha Sims (who Brenda loved as her own) took very good care of her in her home. Brenda loved sitting on the front porch with Felicia and Sasha and considered it their girls’ day each time they did it. She loved them tremendously. Brenda was truly a blessing to not only her family but others along her path. She was a bright, shining smile that made a difference in this world. She will be truly missed

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online, or in a funeral program to inform friends, family, and acquaintances of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They help to notify others of the funeral arrangements, allow people to pay their respects, and provide a sense of closure.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, the funeral home or a professional writer may assist with writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral service details and any charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise, around 150-200 words. However, some online platforms may allow for longer tributes.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process. They may have specific requirements for formatting, word count, and deadlines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words. However, it's essential to discuss this with your loved ones and make sure they're comfortable with the idea.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I publish an obituary online?

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or platform. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several days or weeks.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the passing, you can opt for a private or limited-circulation obituary. This might be shared only with close friends and family or published in a local community newsletter.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems that resonated with the deceased can add depth and meaning to the tribute. Just ensure you have permission to use copyrighted material.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an obituary?

If you notice mistakes in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform immediately. They may be able to correct the error or issue a retraction.

Can I write multiple obituaries for different publications?

Yes! You may want to tailor separate obituaries for different audiences or communities. Just ensure consistency in essential details like dates and names.

What if I want to create a memorial website instead of publishing an obituary?

A memorial website can be a beautiful way to celebrate someone's life. Many platforms offer tools and templates to create a lasting tribute with photos, stories, and condolences.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media platforms can be effective ways to share news of a passing with friends and acquaintances. You can share a link to the published obituary or create a post with essential details.

How do I handle condolences and sympathy messages after publishing an obituary?

Bereaved families often appreciate condolences and sympathy messages. Designate someone to collect cards, flowers, or donations on behalf of the family.

What if I'm struggling emotionally while writing an obituary?

Grieving is a natural process. Take your time when writing an obituary, and consider seeking support from loved ones or professionals if needed. Remember that this is a celebration of life – focus on sharing fond memories and honoring your loved one.
