Theresa Ann Oglesby - March 22, 1951 - April 14, 2022

Departed: 04/14/2022 (Cartersville)
Obituary Preview: Mrs. Theresa Ann Rogers Oglesby, 71, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery, 165 Old Tennessee Rd NE, Cartersville, GA 30121. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.
Due to COVID-19 regulations and guidelines, physical distancing practices may be in place, and MASK ARE REQUIRED for those who will be attending the service.
On April 14, 2022, Theresa R. Oglesby, one of God’s most resilient angels on earth transitioned to receive her ultimate peace and reward in heaven.
Theresa was born on March 22, 1951 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Betty and James Rogers. She was preceded in death by her brother James Rogers, Jr. and her parents who she committed her life to caring for during each of their final years.
A five-time cancer survivor, Theresa epitomized faithfulness, courage, and strength. Her life was a living testimony, and she never hesitated to tell others about the goodness of God.  Always an advocate for her family, friends and community, Theresa was an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee, Les Savants, the Afro American Social and Civic Association and many other community groups. Perhaps one of her greatest accomplishments and sources of pride was being an educator for nearly 40 years. Theresa impacted hundreds of students and colleagues throughout the years with her tough but caring style always demanding and believing the best of those in her classroom. Her teaching didn’t stop there though as she considered it her duty to push any and every one to believe in themselves and seize every opportunity to learn whether it be helping the little ones memorize the longest Easter speech she could or pushing the teens to attend a Kennesaw Youth Department meeting even if it was an early Saturday morning after the senior prom.
Theresa worked hard, but she also took the job of being the life of the party very seriously. Attending Albany State Homecoming with her college girlfriends, hosting family birthday dinners or starting the community Harvest Festival on the Hill are just a few of the ways she made sure everyone stopped to celebrate and fellowship with each other. Before her physical challenges began, she would cut a rug with the best of them and challenge anyone to stay on the dance floor longer than her. She loved to get dressed up but also knew she was pretty in a t-shirt and would tell you just as much. No one should leave the house without a red lip and a smile in her opinion.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy, particularly those grands. Known as Mother/Mubee, she would do anything to make them smile and was the perfect example of a loving grandparent. Theresa leaves to cherish her memory her husband of almost 38 years, John J. Oglesby; her beloved children, Saundra D. Rogers, Stephen Raymone George (Eowyn), and Terrica Bailey (Mike); her grandchildren, Bethani and Brooke Pickett, Jaiden and Elliott George, and Reese and Parker Bailey; her sister and best friend, Carolyn Rogers Davenport (Roy); a special niece and great-nephew, Misty (Daryl) and Tripp Grayer; countless friends; loving in-laws; and a host of other relatives, colleagues, and church family. He was the sixth of seven children born and raised in the Pine Grove Community. He was born premature and so small that he could fit in the palm of your hand. His mother was bedridden after giving birth and could not care for him, so his Aunt Mable Ellis Jackson cared for him for about six months until his mother was well enough to care for him. He was given the nickname “Tiny” and this nickname was known by many.

The greatest thing about his tour was that in 1969 he come back to the United States alive.
After serving his country on the battlefield he returned to Cartersville Georgia. Willie always acknowledged that the Lord protected him during that time, and he owed his life to serving and bringing as many as he could to the Lord.
While Willie was out witnessing in various cities, he met the love of his life Lucille King in Gainesville Georgia in 1969. In 1973 they were united in holy matrimony and together their lives began; raising a son and later blessed with a daughter. A few years later they were also blessed with raising a granddaughter whom they loved as their own child.
He was one of the founders of Macedonia Pentecostal Holiness Church where he joined in 1972. He was baptized in Jesus name under the leadership of the late Elder Milton McSpadden and later continued to serve under the leadership of the late Pastor Elsie Pruitt. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at Macedonia Pentecostal Holiness Church of Cartersville Georgia. He served as a faithful and dedicated member, church bus driver, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and lastly installed as a Deacon. He exuded dedication and consistency serving the Lord, because he believed in putting God first in all things. He always greeted everyone with a cheerful “Praise the Lord”. He was a member of the Georgia State Counsel of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World for 50 years.
He was also blessed to retire from Shaw Industries in 2014 after 30 years of service.
Deacon Willie Ellis was preceded in death by his wife Lucille King Ellis, his parents; sisters Joann Ellis Sullivan and Pastor Elsie Ellis Pruitt; brothers Clifford and Warren Darnell Ellis; father in-law Edward King; grandson, brother and sister in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was the first freshman in the Coach Jimmy Dorsey era to make varsity, and even scored a touchdown in his first game. As a sophomore, Corey led Cobb County in touchdowns and was nicknamed, “Hero Holmes” by the Marietta Daily Journal. Corey spoke with his actions and showed how humble he was as he quietly set the ball in the end zone after scoring touchdowns week after week. His love for the game of football rivaled his love for baseball, as he consistently ran down fly balls as a center fielder for McEachern. Corey’s passion for athletics carried on from being a player, to being a coach. He coached middle school football at McEachern from 2010-2019, and coached baseball at East Cobb and McEachern from 2011-2022. Corey’s love for the game was second to his love for the kids that he had an opportunity to impact. Corey did what few adults do...He did what he loved, and that was coaching. Corey was an amazing son, brother, cousin, nephew, teammate, and friend. He loved the Lord, and he loved people, and that was reflected in the way he lived.
Corey is preceded in death by his mother, Janice, his Uncle Ricky Holmes, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew (Lillie Sarah) Holmes.
Left to cherish his memories are his brother, Armand Rashad Posey, Aunt Carol Holmes, Uncle Reginald and Aunt Perrie Holmes, Uncle Randy Holmes, Aunt Sana Holmes, cousins Maisah Houston (Mario), Rwanda Holmes, Ryann Beasley (Terrell), Brandi Crews (Dedrick), Chloe and Colin Holmes. He enjoyed a very special bond with his honorary family: the Blunschi family, the Brown family, the Burge family, the Bullard family, and the Stretch family, along with a host of loved ones, extended family and friends.

It is no doubt that she was a charismatic and loving individual, always seeing the best in everyone else. She was very respectful of others and always meant well with the word. Why are obituaries important?
