Obituary Preview: Luigi "Louie" Purro, 94, a lifelong resident of Federal Hill, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Anna (Palmieri) Purro.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Santarella (DiScuillo) Purro.
Mr. Purro worked for the City of Providence School Department for many years before retiring.  He served in the Naval Armed Guard from 1944 until 1946.  As an active parishioner of the former St. John’s Parish Mr. Purro was a Boys Scouts Leader for Troup 77 and co-founded its Bugle and Drum Corps.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Dillon Council and was a founding member of New Homes for Federal Hill.
He is survived by his four children, Louis Purro, Michael Purro Sr., Richard Purro and Annette Purro and her partner, Pauline Patchis; a brother, William Purro, four sisters, Gloria Barbato, Marie Fairbrothers, Sandra Martinelli and Angela Calderone; six grandchildren, Michael Purro Jr., Mario Purro, Stephen Purro, Allegra Strickland, Ariana Purro and Emma Jenkins-Purro; a great grandson, Leo Purro and his Godson, Robert Gallo.  He was the father of the late Stephen Purro, father-in-law of the late Denise Purro and brother of the late Dorothea Gallo, Kathleen A. Caduto and Nancy Purro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence.  Burial will be private and visitation is respectfully omitted.  Donations in Mr. Purro’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Diane worked as a social worker for several years helping adults and children within the Rhode Island community.
She was the sister of Donald A. Alberico of Port St. Lucie FL and the aunt of Jamie D Alberico, Joshua S Alberico, Peter W Alberico and Donald A Alberico Jr. of Rhode Island, Florida and Massachusetts.
Burial will be held at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston at a later date with a small ceremony for immediate family.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her four children, Pedro A. Lopez, Yovanny Lopez, Fausto E. Lopez and Jacqueline Lopez; her sister, Justina Reyes; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was the sister of the late Fela, Armando, Martin and Perla Lizardo.

Obituary Preview: Richard W. Hyatt, 74, of East Greenwich, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Richard Hyatt and Alma (DeRoker) Phillips.
Ricky was a registered nurse and worked as a charge nurse at John Clarke Retirement Center in Middletown, retiring in 2015. He was passionate about gardening, music and dancing. He was the former owner of Reflections Hair Care Salons in New Jersey where he had his own line of hair care products called Sure Shot. He was also the owner and operator of the Captain Thomas Brewer House Bed and Breakfast in Newport.
He is survived by his son, Ian C. Hyatt; his sister, Sharon Theroux, his niece, Tamy Potts, and his grandson, Jonathan Hyatt.

(Calcagni) Ricci, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2020, at Brentwood Nursing Home.  She was the wife of the late Armando Ricci.   She was born in Arce, Italy, the youngest child of Gaetano and Maria (Polselli) Calcagni.  She was the stepdaughter of Josephine Fanelli Calcagni.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She is survived by her two sons, Anthony R. Ricci, MD and his wife, Patricia Ricci, MD and Ronald Ricci and his wife, Giovina; five grandchildren: Marcus Ricci and his wife, Soo Kim, Felicia, Tessa, Ariana and Alyssa Ricci and two great-grandsons, Julius and Leon Ricci.  She is survived by her sister, Dina Calcagni Marzilli of Sydney, Australia.  She was predeceased by her siblings: Gina Calcagni Ceccarelli of Rome, Eleuterio Calcagni of Arce, Bernardo Calcagni of Arce, Guiseppe Calcagni of Sydney, Australia, and Guido Calcagni of Rocca Secca.
At the age of 20, Velia emigrated to the United States, without travel companions, on a nine-day transatlantic voyage to Ellis Island.  At the time, she could only speak Italian.  She was to meet her future husband while diligently studying English at the Federal Hill House.
She worked in several manufacturing companies and, with her husband, established a successful business, Armando Ricci and Sons.
Velia had a vibrant, magnetic personality and she loved to sing Italian songs.  She performed at various Italian festivals in RI and upstate New York.
She was a wonderful cook and was renowned for her homemade gnocchi, manicotti and pizzelle.  She and her husband loved traveling together.
The family is deeply appreciative to the Brentwood Staff for their exceptional care. Velia touched the hearts of many throughout a lifetime that was well-lived.  She will be sorely missed.  We will tearfully bid her goodbye with the very words she often joyfully said to her dear friends: Ciao Bella!

Obituary Preview: Leo Perrotta, 85, of North Providence, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.  He was the beloved husband of Norma (Rattenni) Perrotta for 60 years.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John and Filomena (Lubrano) Perrotta.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 6 children, Leo J Perrotta (Debbie) of Portsmouth, Michael Perrotta (Rhonda) of Cranston, Lisa Hanch (David Lefort) of North Providence, Patricia Martineau (John) of Johnston, John Perrotta of North Providence, and Thomas Perrotta (Rachel Kane) of Brooklyn, NY and his cherished grandchildren; Jessica Hanch, David and Eric Martineau, Rachael and Nicholas Perrotta, and Paul and Sean Perrotta.
He also leaves two brothers, Ralph Perrotta (Inge) and John Perrotta (Donna) and his sister, Linda Perrotta (John Rao).
Leo served in the US Army from 1955 – 1957 and was a house builder and cabinetmaker and took great pride in his work.  His greatest enjoyment in life was being with his family, especially on Sundays when he made meatballs and sauce for his children and grandchildren, which became a family tradition.
The family would like to thank Hope Hospice and Palliative Care for their kindness and compassionate care.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sisters, Carol Cappuccilli,  wife of the late Joseph Cappuccilli, and Josephine and Richard Mancini.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his aunts and uncles, Josephine and Donald Jones of Sun City, Arizona and Eleanor and Nicholas St. Angelo of North Providence, Rhode Island.  He is the nephew of the late Mary and John Bordieri, Charles Cipressi, and Filomena and Lillian Antonuccio. Additionally, he is survived by many cousins, brother in-laws and sister in-laws.
Vincent was a graduate of Rhode Island College. He loved playing Santa Claus every year at Christmas bringing gifts to all his nieces and nephews in his big red Santa bag. He was a faithful friend, loved hockey, was a fan of baseball, and loved his dogs. Vincent worked as a carpenter and served his country proud as a member of the United States Army.
Vincent’s funeral and burial with Military Honors will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held when Vincent’s Family and Friends are able to get together.

Owner of EZ REG RI, Matty provided top notch registry services for over 25 years. He was the first cellular phone salesperson in RI. In addition to his entrepreneurial spirit; Matty was best known for his keen sense of humor and big heart.

Joseph Pagliarini, 60, of North Providence, Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 1st, 2020 after a long battle with Cancer and Kidney Failure.
Raised in Warwick, he was the son of Richard and Elaine Pagliarini. He was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, class of ’77, and Providence College, class of ’81. He married the love of his life, Elisa [Reynolds], in 1981 and went on to have four amazing children, whom he loved greatly. In his professional life, Joe was a 30-year veteran of the banking industry, specializing in home financing. In his personal life he loved cooking Sunday dinner for his family, going to local paint nights with his wife Elisa, and visiting with his adorable grandchildren.
Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Elisa. His four children and their spouses: Victoria (Kevin), Christopher (Stephanie), Richard (Heather), and Thomas (Julia). His six grandchildren: Elliana, Ezra, Joseph, and Robert, as well as two more grandchildren that are on the way. He is also survived by his parents Richard and Elaine [Palumbo] Pagliarini, and his two sisters Beth Carroccia and Amy Quinn.

Robert Colannino - January 15, 1930 - July 30, 2020

Obituary Preview: ROBERT COLANNINO, 90, of North Providence passed away peacefully on July 30, 2020 surrounded by his wife and family.
Bob was born in the Mt. Pleasant section of Providence on January 15, 1930, the son of John and Elizabeth (Paolino) Colannino.
After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1948, Bob joined the 3rd Cavalry Regiment Army Unit nicknamed “Brave Rifles” and spent a total of 5 years full time and reserve duty. Bob later joined Jencks and Ballou as an architectural draftsman then branched off into the steel end of the construction industry, working as an estimator and trouble shooter in the field. During this time, he attended RISD and then Roger Williams Jr. College evening classes. During the 1970’s Bob owned Cal’s Liquors on Elmwood Ave. After that he and his friend Teddy Rampini started Metro Steel Erection in the mid-1980’s which operated for 10 years. Finally, he worked at JD Cement until he was 89 years old.
Bob was a long-time dedicated member of the OSIA Grand Lodge and the Sons of Italy Salvatore Mancini #2440. His many duties included serving as treasurer as well as volunteering his services. In 1984 he became a member of the Grand Lodge of RI and served as Trustee and Corresponding Secretary. For two years he was Chairman for the Grand Lodge Scholarship and Charity Benefit Raffle. He was also in charge of the weekly high low jack card session.
Bob dedicated much of his time to community service including filming the local cable cooking show Cucino di Nonna for his wife Gilda and friend Jean Restivo, volunteering for The Ronald McDonald House and driving the church bus for the Mary Mother of Mankind parishioners. He loved playing golf and exploring and keeping up with new technology.
Bob and Gilda (Amicarelli) were married in Holy Ghost Church on September 6, 1952. He is survived by his wife; three sons and their spouses: Robert Colannino (Mark) of Kinderhook, NY, David Colannino (Mary) of Providence, RI, John Colannino (Becky) of Bangor, ME; six grandchildren: David, Meghan, Molly, Patrick, Nathan and Elizabeth. He was the brother of the late John Colannino, Evelyn Calderone and Sandra Resse.

Justine was born in Providence. She was the loving daughter of the late John and Anna Capaldi, sister of the late John Capaldi and Claire Botelho. She grew up among a very large group of beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. She was married to the late Joseph DeAngelis whom she shared her life for 48 cherished years. Justine is survived by her three adoring children, Nancy Tullie and husband, Chris Canton, Joseph J. DeAngelis, Esq. and his wife, Ann Mary and Lynda Lisker and her husband Steven. Justine was grandmother to Meghann Tullie, Hannah Lisker, Samantha Capece and her husband Jordan, Julia DeAngelis, Eliza DeAngelis and Ben DeAngelis and many nieces and nephews that she will miss dearly.
She graduated from North Providence High School and Bryant College. Upon graduation she was employed by CW Knibb Co where she worked until she started her family.  Justine was selflessly focused on everyone around her and dedicated her life to her family and friends. Justine had a gift of gardening. She was always the person to take on sick or dying plants and reviving them to prior beauty. She also enjoyed music and animals, but her greatest enjoyment was attending and celebrating her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and life accomplishments. She loved her pets and being a grandma to three dogs and two cats. Her true joy and blessings were being mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered as dedicated, fun-loving, compassionate and being a loyal friend.

Besides his wife of 39 years and his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Mya D’Amico; his sister, Donna Mendes, and his loyal dog Maxwell.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence. Burial will be private. Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob” P. DiGiacomo, 74, of Cranston, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Angela (Russo) DiGiacomo. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Garofalo) DiGiacomo.
Bob was a welder and fabricator for Perfecto Iron Works and United Fence. He was an antique car enthusiast who enjoyed attending car shows. He owned and customized an award winning 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery. He loved playing cards with his friends and going to casinos. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Besides his loving wife of 52 years, he is survived by his daughter, Rosemarie Buerman and her husband Fred; a brother, Joseph DiGiacomo and his wife Emily; a sister, Diane Vescera and her husband Mike: two granddaughters, Meghan and Hannah Buerman and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert DiGiacomo.

John W. Ranucci - December 29, 1946 - July 15, 2020

Obituary Preview: John William Ranucci passed away peacefully on July 15, 2020 in the company of family and friends.
The son of Joseph Ranucci and Andrianna “Anna” Ranucci (née Imonti), he was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1964 and then studied biology and mathematics at the University of Rhode Island, graduating in 1968 with distinction and as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.
Shortly after starting a career in teaching and the birth of his first child, he served in combat in Vietnam between 1968 and 1970, where he received multiple medals, including the Bronze Star.
In the early 1970’s, he and a friend started one of the first local neighborhood bike shops, A.J. Spokes, which was located on Hope Street on Providence’s East Side. Always looking for a new challenge, John changed paths and attended University of Connecticut School of Law, where he served on the law review.  After graduation, John returned to Providence and practiced law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts until his retirement.
John is remembered as a man with a brilliant and analytical mind, who was full of intellectual curiosity. Although he chose to practice law, it was math, science and engineering that motivated him. He pursued those interests through his many hobbies including, restoring vintage German cars. He was a self-taught mechanic and he became a neighborhood fixture in Federal Hill working on his cars into the late hours of the night.
John found peace passing at his home in Federal Hill. He is survived by his children, Leighlan Ranucci and John Ranucci; daughter-in-law, Lauri Reitzammer; grandson, Lucas Ranucci; brother, Joseph Ranucci and sister-in-law, Carolyn Ranucci.
A private memorial gathering to celebrate John’s life will be announced in the near future.

Armond "Arnold" Ruggiano - Unknown - July 12, 2020

Mr. Ruggiano was the co-owner and operator of Quality Glass in Cranston.  He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his companion, he is survived by his son, Tracy Walton; two grandchildren, Jamie and Stephanie Walton; and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Bobby Ruggiano.
Visitation will be held on Friday Morning, July 17, 2020 from 10 – 11 a.m., immediately followed by a Prayer Service in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence.  Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Mr. Marcoccio worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, before retiring.
He is survived by his two sons, John and Robert Marcoccio; three grandchildren, Tricia Ann Marcoccio, Kimberly Margaret Kucal and Brian Marcoccio; two great grandchildren, Samuel and Emma Kucal; and a sister, Sue Simonelli.  He was the brother of the late Phyllis Reedy, Larry, Joe, Frank, Armando and John B. Marcoccio.

Sean worked as a Pharmacy Technician for CVS Health.  He was a graduate of Johnston High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Alyssa Casalino; his maternal grandmother, Claire (Delisle) Blanchette; and his fiancée, Hannah Parente.  He was the brother of the late Ryan J. Casalino and grandson of the late Robert Blanchette, Marino and Anna (DelSanto) Casalino.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 6, 2020 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence.  A maximum of 25 people will be allowed in the facility at one time and face masks must be worn in accordance with Federal, State and Local Mandates.  Sean’s funeral and burial will be private.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Paul Ferrer and his wife Ann Marie; three daughters, Gail Wilbour and her husband Doug, Diane Savard and her husband Michael, and Irene Phaneuf and her husband Don; a sister, Jane Stallwood; five grandchildren, Jennifer Vieira, Kevin Gosselin, Daniel Ferrer, Lindsay Ferrer and Mathew Wilbour; and two great grandchildren, Sophia and Brianna Vieira.  She was the sister of the late Louise Elks and Helen George.

Gloria leaves two devoted daughters, Lydia Scungio and her Husband Pasco of Johnston and Patricia Lucciola of North Providence.  The youngest of seven children, she was the sister of the late Angela Ricci, Joseph Congio, Lena Zambarano, Jennie Schenck, John Congio, and Benjamin Congio.
Gloria was a 1948 graduate of North Providence High School. After graduation she was employed as a receptionist for Wooster Textile, a secretary for Kay Jewelers, an executive secretary for Providence Washington Insurance Company, and a private secretary for Affiliated FM insurance company.  Gloria was also an active member of the North Providence PTA from 1962-1970.  She was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles, floral arranging, arts and crafts, and the TV show Jeopardy.  She was also a devout Catholic deeply immersed in her faith. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.

Oddo, III and Syana Tehrani; and five great grandchildren, Dana, Ariana, Joseph, Johnny and Dylan.  He was the father-in-law of the late Vincent J. Oddo, Esq. and brother of the late Rose Santangelo.

Obituary Preview: Flora A. (Porreca) De Luca, 89, of Providence, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Francesco De Luca. Born in Cervinara, Avellino, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Onofrio and Pasqualina (Silvestri) Porreca. Flora first came to the United States on January 24, 1951, crossing the Atlantic on the ocean liner, Independence, and settling in Providence. She returned to Italy in April of 1954 on the Volcania, intending never to return. Duty called and she returned to Providence in November to be the godmother of her nephew, David. She again returned to her beloved Cervinara for her mother’s funeral in 1958. She departed on a four propeller air plane on June 24, 1958 on an 18 hour flight. She again vowed never to return but then met the love of her life and husband of 50 years. Flora returned to Providence on May 18, 1960 on the Leonardo Da Vinci, this time staying to raise her loving family.
