John Martin Woznick - July 02, 1931 - May 21, 2024

Departed: 05/21/2024 (Delhi)
Obituary Preview: John Martin Woznick, 92, of Bloomville, NY passed away in his home on May 21st, 2024.
Son of John Patrick Woznick and Wilhelmina Augusta Moseman, he was born on July 2, 1931. John was the second of four children, including his older sister Virginia Williams (deceased), younger sister Marie Norton, and younger brother Herb Woznick (deceased).
His adolescent years were spent working alongside his uncle Herb, learning trade skills that he, his family, his friends, and neighbors would come to rely on for more than a half a century. He had several other odd jobs including setting pins at the local bowling alley while also begrudgingly attending school. On the heels of World War II, he decided at the young age of 17 to join the Navy with his mother’s permission. He served four years in the Navy, 1948-1952, attending electricians mate school in Chicago, Illinois and eventually being stationed in Treasure Island, CA on the USS Kearsarge where her steam boilers were in his care.
After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he, and Theresa Marie (Terri or Marie) McGowan were married and began their family on Cedar Street, Seaford, NY with the birth of their twins, daughter Kathy and son David. Soon after, their third child, daughter Margaret arrived followed a few years later by their fourth child, daughter, Maryann.
John chose a career in plumbing, working for the NYS Park Commission out of Babylon, NY. He and his team were responsible for the plumbing in all the State parks along the Long Island coast. He is credited with inventing the first handicapped water fountain used in New York State parks, receiving recognition from then Lieutenant Governor, Mario Cuomo.
John was an avid sportsman and spent some of his free time hunting in the Catskills. This is where he found his forever “ace in the hole” on the top of a mountain in Bloomville. He and Marie (Terri) made the bold choice to relocate their family. Traveling “upstate” each weekend with supplies, together the family built their future home. Soon after, their fifth and final child, daughter, Patricia was born.
For 14 years, John continued the commute to Long Island for work returning home to Bloomville each Friday night with a toothpick in his mouth and a week’s haul of groceries. As he reached the top of Palmer Hill, the “Tinman”, his CB handle, signaled to his family with a “How ‘bout you Tin-man Base?” that he would arrive home within the hour. His kids waiting at the door to help unload the groceries. As Sunday afternoons crept in, it was time to grab his lunch box and coffee filled thermos for the trip back downstate. Reaching the corner at the end of the road, he would signal “I Love You” with the tap of his brakes 3 times and a wave of his sun-tanned arm out the window to tell Marie and the kids goodbye for another week. The “Tinman” eventually retired to the hills and never looked back.
John was a long-time member of the Bloomville Fire department, serving as a fireman and fire commissioner. He supported the community and his family with his jack of all trade skill set, teaching all who were interested in how to get things done “the John Woznick way”.
In his retirement years he fostered the do-it-yourself drive in his children, building their family homes alongside them. John and Marie, until her passing, enjoyed watching their family expand. Grandchildren; Lindsay (Margaret and Bob Coager), Ian (Kathy and Wayne Tompkins) Matt, Zach, Conor (David Woznick and Donna Meadowcroft), JB, Nora, Patrick (Patrica Woznick and Sean Trimbell); step Grandchildren Jackie, Christine and Daniel (Maryann and Dan Owens); Great Grandchildren; Addy and Finn (Lindsay & Ben), Nyomi (Zach & Emma), Charleigh and Ellie (Matt & Megan); step Great Grandchildren Aidan and Sasha (Jackie) Ava and Gia (Christine), Mila (Daniel & Krista).
John was lucky to find love and close friendship again in his life with Dawn Bals.
John was a pure reflection of the silent generation, there were no need for words when a little elbow grease and ingenuity would get things done. He will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
We will celebrate the life of John M. Woznick with a graveside service with military honors in Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville, NY at 12:30pm on Friday, May 31st, 2024. A luncheon will follow at the Bloomville Firehouse at 1pm.

William D Thomson, Jr. - May 27, 1948 - January 23, 2024

Departed: 01/23/2024 (Delhi)
Obituary Preview: William D. Thomson Jr., 75, passed away on January 23, 2024, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY.
Those who knew him called him Bill, Mr. Bill, Will, Willem, or Tommy – as well as many other names that can’t be repeated.
To many, he was a legend. The reasons are varied, but it had much to do with his personality. To be around him was to be surrounded by witty and crass humor, generosity, self-deprecation, sage advice, competitiveness, kindness, goofiness, stubbornness, and dogs. Dogs loved him.
He was born on May 27, 1948, and until the age of seven lived in Andes, NY. Many of his childhood photos capture a boy with a playful grin and a dimple in his chin, who was always outdoors. Camping, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the whims of life as children do. He grew up in Delhi, NY and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1967. More than once, he told the story of how he was almost kicked off the DA basketball team for refusing to cut his hair. Bucking the system, when justified, delighted him.
He lost his only brother, James Thomson, in a tragic accident in 1963. This would be one of several defining experiences of his life. The next would come at the age of 19, when the military draft called his number for the Vietnam War. He was trained as an Army radio teletype operator and served a term in Vietnam. This time greatly impacted him and fueled many of the complexities of who he was. War has a way of doing that.
In 1970, he met and fell in love with Julie Card. They married in March of 1972 and had three children: Jason, Seth, and Kylee. The family remained in Delhi, with William holding a mail carrier position at the USPS for approximately 35 years. His position kept him fit for all the years he skied, played town softball, and rough-housed with his boys in ‘mini-ball’ at home.
One more name he held was Grampa Bill. He was a proud grandfather to Joselyn and Lauren (of Jason/Amanda); Carson, CT, and Connor (of Seth/Katie); and Ellery and William, his namesake (of Matt Lindberg/Kylee). When asked to share their fondest memories of Grampa, they listed playing cards, catching minnows, pillow fights, four-wheel rides, wiffle-ball lessons, seashell searches, and campfire chats. They all adored his Donald Duck voice; he adored using it to make them giggle.
His years in retirement were filled with him spending time with his family, snow-birding with Julie in Vero Beach (FL), sharing his amusing adages with anyone who would listen, playing solitaire, and eating late-night snacks and sweets. He was known for eating ice cream off a plate; just one more way in which he followed his own set of rules.
The days leading up to his passing were filled with visits from his closest family members. More jokes, more laughs, some tears, and even a few more rounds of Pitch with his cousin, Charles (Chuck) Thompson, whom he considered his honorary brother. We imagine he is off somewhere mingling and partying with his parents, his brother, and all the other family members and friends who passed before him. The dogs surrounding him, begging for his treats, as always.
A celebration of William’s life will be held from 2-5PM on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at the Delhi American Legion, 41 Page Ave., Delhi, Military honors will be held at 3PM.
Donations in memory of Bill may be made to Delhi American Legion Post 190, 41 Page Ave., Delhi, NY 13753.
