Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Beverley Seidel, 96, of Rouses Point, New York on May 12, 2024. Beverley was predeceased by her late husband, Laine G. Jamieson and survived by her husband, Gene V. Seidel, as well as her children, Donald Jamieson (Robynne), the late Gary Jamieson (Susan) and Joanne Tusas (Vic) as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Beverley was born in Montreal, Quebec, and during her career as a nurse and X-ray technician at the Royal Victoria Hospital helped many patients overcome their various illnesses. Bev moved to many places due to her late husband's job, and wherever she went she always made many friends which lasted a lifetime.

When she moved to Rouses Point she found The Three Steeples United Methodist Church. Gene and Bev were avid church-goers, and she became very involved being head of the women's group for many years. She was quite the organizer so this suited her very well. Bev had a love for nature and enjoyed gardening, and had the most beautiful gardens for many years. Bev and Gene loved going to their cottage on the lake at Riviere Beaudette, Quebec during their summers. It was the family's gathering place which always brought wonderful times and good laughs. Her family was everything to her.

Bev will be greatly missed by her family and extended family as well as many friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 a.m. followed by a service inside the Chapel on Friday, May 17, 2024 at the M.B. Clark Funeral Home at 148 Lake Street, Rouses Point, NY. Services will conclude with interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Champlain, NY.

James F. Rochester - January 08, 1927 - April 29, 2024

Obituary Preview: James F Rochester, 97, passed away at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, NY with his loving family beside him on Monday, April 29, 2024. He was born in Burlington, VT to Hiram and Agnes (Goddeau) Rochester. He graduated from Rouses Point High School in 1944, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in WWII in the Philippines and Occupied Japan. After he completed his duties in the U.S. Army he attended Champlain College in Burlington VT. He then worked at various jobs, the Davey Tree Company, Napierville Junction Railway, Getty’s Electric, the North Countryman and then the Press Republican retiring in 1986. In 1960 Jim founded The Border Press, a commercial printing company in Rouses Point that is still operating today.

Jim was so inspired by a scrapbook his mother Agnes compiled of newspaper clippings of local servicemen and women during WWII, he decided to take it a step further. Well into his 80’s Jim decided to expand his mother’s idea and committed himself to compiling and documenting the local veterans military history. He spent hours interviewing the veteran or their family member collecting stories, photos, newspaper clipping, etc. so that these stories would never be forgotten. Jim’s efforts over the years resulted in 2 books “Scrapbooks I’ and “Scrapbooks II” that was a labor of love and a gift to the community that will always be treasured and preserved. “Remembering Point au fer” was a book that Jim compiled and published in 2009, The book includes photos, sketches, historical documentation and most importantly Jim’s recollection of Rochester family folklore. This folklore included stories of generations of the Walker, Rochester and Scales families, the original settlers and property owners of Point au fer.

Jim was an avid fisherman and waterfowler, he enjoyed boating, swimming, taking long walks with his dog Belle. He was a skilled wood carver of bird, duck and fish decoys. Jim was a music lover, he sang and played acoustic and steel guitar and performed in various bands through the years thus having the nickname “Jaz” by his close friends. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Choir in Rouses Point, a 60 year member of the American Legion Post 912 in Rouses Point, NY.

Jim was a family man, he loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with all of them especially his grandchildren, fishing, carving and sharing stories of his life.

James is survived by his daughters Pamela (Russell) Gadway, Elaine Cloutier, Debra Collins, his son Daniel (Annie) Rochester; his grandchildren Herm (Martha) Gadway, Tyler (Heather) Gadway, Bryce (Andrea) Gadway, Lacey (Josh) Smith, Devan Collins, Richard (Kristen) Collins III, Katelyn (Stephen) Saunier, Jordanne (Jeff Campbell) Rochester, Duncan (Chelsey) Rochester, Brent (Anna) Langlois; Herm’s children Lena and Hannah; Tyler’s children Chelsae, Ethan, Gavin, Ella, Ava; Anna’s children Allie and Evan, Bryce’s children Emma, Caden, Elliott; Katelyn’s children Oliver and River; Jordanne’s children Avril and Liam; Duncan’s children Erin and Harrison; great great granddaughter Eliana; ex-spouse and friend Doris (Trombley) Neale.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Robert J., Richard L. and Clifton E.; grandchildren Anna Gadway Langlois, Brandon J. Gadway, Heath Mundy, son-in-law Paul Cloutier.

Special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers that allowed Jim to live in his own home in his final years, Brenda, Janie, Patti, Marilyn and a special thank you to his nurse Shirley Gladd. Thank you to the wonderful staff on the 3rd and 7th floors at CVPH for the care given to Jim. Our family is deeply grateful to the 2nd floor staff “Chestnut Grove” at Meadowbrook Healthcare for all the loving care.

Jerrod D. LaBombard - December 16, 1971 - January 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: Jerrod Daniel LaBombard, 52, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH surrounded by his loved ones. He battled an aggressive lung cancer for 7 months and is now at peace. Jerrod was born at the same hospital on December 16, 1971, the son of Sandra Kelley LaBombard and Daniel LaBombard.

Jerrod graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central School in 1990. After several different career paths in his younger years, Jerrod found his true calling in the restaurant business. He worked for years with his mother, Sandra, at her restaurant, learning her recipes and how to run a business. He then trained at high end restaurants downstate and in Myrtle Beach, SC. In 2012, Jerrod moved back to his hometown of Rouses Point. That same year, he opened his first restaurant, Green Mountain Café in St. Albans, VT and his place was a huge success. So much so, that in 2020, he opened his second restaurant, Apple Lodge Eatery in Chazy, NY. He loved great food and he loved serving his customers great food, taking immense pride in this. He could often be found going table to table asking customers how their meals were and if they needed anything.

Jerrod loved his son, Hutch, more than anything, and he treasured all the time they spent together watching NASCAR and football. Jerrod had an incredible sense of humor and he loved to make people laugh, even in his final days. Jerrod was a member of the Lyons Club in Chazy, NY. He will be forever missed.

Survivors include his son, Hutchinson, of Champlain, NY, his mother, Sandra, of Rouses Point, NY, his sister, Erin Frisbie and her husband, Andy, his nieces, Katelin, Caroline, and nephew, Connor, all of New Woodstock, NY, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel, his grandmothers, Mabel and Electa, and his grandfathers, Clarence and George.

Jerrod’s family would like to thank their family and friends for their condolences, kind words, and prayers. We also want to thank CVPH R5 nursing staff, their care was amazing. Thank you also to Champlain/Rouses Point Ambulance service for their great care.

Calling hours will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 4-7pm at M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point, and the funeral Mass on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 11am at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the spring.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patick’s Church on Saturday January 6, 2024 at 11:00am with Father Nicolas Revilla officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of M. B. Clark Funeral Home.

Marc was born in St. Justin Children’s Hospital in Montreal, QC to Coleen Vance and Michel Payette of Montreal, QC on June 5, 1986.

At the age of 14 Marc was placed in Residential Schooling. He was then moved to Agency-based housing where his needs could be best addressed by those professionally trained to do so. In 2010, at age 24, Marc moved home to be able to receive the kind of unconditional love and nurturing care that he needed.

Marc overcame and endured many physical, emotional and mental obstacles in his short 37 years, but his life story defined the kind of love that brings good people together. It was with the support of these people that Marc was able to grow, live comfortably, and accomplish many things people did not realize he was capable of.

Marc is survived by his mother and father, his sister Julie Payette (34) and brother Mathieu Payette (30), his maternal grandmother Louise Walsh Vance, and grandfather James Vance and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Andre and Marie-Paul Payette.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to those who loved and cared for Marc, those who encouraged him to be himself, and accepted him for who he was to include his family and friends, long-term caregiver Jovi Perez, and Dr. Stephen Heintz.

Marc’s energy and laughter will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace in God’s tender and loving hands.

Obituary Preview: In loving memory of Penny Devost, who left us suddenly on November 15, 2023, at the age of 68. An amazing Mother, Sister, Daughter, friend and family member, Penny's warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She was not only also the best mother-in-law ever but also a cribbage champion extraordinaire.

Penny is survived by her son, Thomas Letourneau, her daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and Patrick Canning. Penny's love lives on through her adoring grandchildren, Dean, Shane, and Sophia. They'll forever treasure the fun times with their Grammy and Gram-Cracker, and they will love her forever to infinity and beyond.

Penny's lively spirit is also remembered by her brothers, Jim MacCallum, Greg MacCallum, and his wife Sherri MacCallum. Her extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and additional family in New Hampshire also mourns the loss of their beloved Penny.

Penny was predeceased by her husband, Dean Devost, her brother Tim MacCallum, and her parents, Leo and Barbara. For those who knew her well, they'll also remember Penny's loyal sidekick, Mindy Sue, who crossed the rainbow bridge last year. Penny is now reunited with loved ones who went before her.

Penny spent her entire career providing amazing food for the people she loved. From her time at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home to the Pfizer pharmaceutical plant and beyond, her culinary skills and caring nature left an indelible mark. Whether crafting meals for residents, colleagues, or simply making a grilled cheese for her grandkids, Penny approached every dish with love. Her dedication to bringing joy through food was unwavering.

Per Penny's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral, as she didn't want to make a big fuss. Instead, we'll honor her wishes with a celebration of life on a bright and beautiful day in the spring. Penny wanted to leave with a smile, and what better way to give her an amazing send-off than to celebrate the joy she brought to all our lives? Details for the celebration will be shared with friends and family as we come together to remember Penny and share stories that capture the spirit of her lively and loving personality.

In memory of Penny, donations to the UVM-CVPH Foundation would be most welcome. The folks at UVM-CVPH played a crucial role toward the end of Penny's life, helping her recover against all odds from a sudden illness a few months ago and employing life-saving measures that tried to keep her with us longer. Dear brother of Niko (Litsa) Galanis, Sia (Ed) Toliopoulos, and the late Stella (the late Nick) Antonoglu. Cherished son of the late Panagioti and Angeliki Galanis. Dear uncle, cousin, and friend of many who will miss him.

George was a devoted family man, who immigrated to the United States (via Canada) in the 1960’s from Kallithea Greece.  He left his homeland in search of a better life.  Thirty years later he returned to live there in retirement.  He had a passion for nurturing his olive trees.  Every fall he would talk about how he looked forward to the harvest.

He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, demonstrating the importance of hard work, resilience and dedication.

He married Eve Manley on May 30, 1959 at Saint Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, NY.

Bernard graduated from Saint Michael's College. He retired from the Food and Drug Administration in 1987. Bernard loved sports - professional, semi-pro, college and high school. He was affixed at his children's sporting events. He was unsuccessful in getting his children interested in chess, although they all share his enthusiasm for cards and dominos. With Eve, he spent many exciting hours at Turning Stone and Akwasasne.

Bernard returned to Rouses Point after his professional career to be near his siblings after assignments in Massachuesetts, Connecticut, and Syracuse, NY.

He was a member of the American Legion, and was devoted to the church, the Knights of Columbus, and Right to Life.

Bernard is survived by his wife Eve, as well as his children Sheila, Maureen, Maria and Matthew, his grandchildren Jeremy, Andrew, Megan and Carson, and great-grandchildren Ivy and August.

Including his parents, Bernard was predeceased by his grandchild Kristin.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Kim Parrott, Carol Shannon, Barbara Pease, and the neighbors on Rose Avenue.

Obituary Preview: Lina Marie LaBonte, 94, of Rouses Point, NY passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at UVM-CVPH Medical Center with her care givers of 12 years, John and Gina at her side. She was born August 15, 1929 to Joseph and Matilda Ethier.

Lina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lina had a love for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, and always looked forward to taking vacations with her daughters and grandchildren when they were young. She was an avid cruiser and very adventurous. From Alaska to Hawaii to the Caribbean she was always ready to sight see and try something new. Water super slides, hot air balloons, to 800 feet under the ocean in a mini-sub, she was game. Lina babysat local children for 25 years and would get a call or card from many. She loved being with her family and they greatly loved her. She will truly be missed.

Lina is survived by her son John (Gina) LaBonte of Rouses Point, daughters Carol (Willard) of Chazy, and Claire (Mark) Anctil of Rouses Point, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren, her sister Maryann Stewart of Plattsburgh and last but not least, her beloved small dogs Mulan and Gracie.

Lina was predeceased by her husband Alfred (married 62 years), her son Phillip LaBonte, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Obituary Preview: Herbert Carl Jones, 84, of Rouses Point died Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his home. He was born in Norfolk, NY, the eldest child of the late Ralph William and Eunice Mary Becker Jones.

As a young child, his father taught him the steel guitar, which he continued to play during his high school years, long into adulthood.

From 1960-1987, Herb's jobs included machinist at Sheridan Iron Works, later Harris Graphics, then as a manufacturing engineer. He then worked for A. Schonbek Lighting in Plattsburgh as an engineer manager until retirement in 1998.

Herb enjoyed playing his steel guitar, built miniature steam engines and various mechanical projects in his home machine shop. He had a life-long passion for railroading, and he and his wife had a love of sailing Lake Champlain.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Denice D. (Barcomb) Jones of Rouses Point, a daughter Tammy Jones of Derby Line, VT, 2 grandsons, Sam & Tyler, 2 sisters, Mary (Joe) Satterthwait & Cora Lee (Terry) Robinson and many nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his mother in 1948, and by his father in 1965.

Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann (Bechard) Bleau passed peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 19, 2023 at the UVM-CVPH medical center in Plattsburgh, New York. Pat was born in Plattsburgh on Sunday, December 10, 1950 to Marcel and Wanda Bechard.

She grew up in Rouses Point, attending school and graduating from Champlain Central School in 1969. Pat worked at Northeastern Clinton Central School as a custodian for several years. She then worked as a production operator at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point, where she retired in 2010.

Pat was the ultimate sports mom; traveling near and far to take her boys to hockey or baseball. She could single-handedly pull off a holiday feast for her large family, clean her home in no time, or finish daily loads of laundry without so much as a sigh. She always gave and never asked for anything in return.

Pat enjoyed over twenty years of camping at Blue Haven Campground in Ellenburg, NY where she and her siblings stayed in the summer months. Her little piece of paradise by the babbling brook was perfect for her. Pat also enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, attending Plattsburgh State Men’s Hockey games, playing Bingo, and enjoying time with her family.

Nana/Nanny, as her young grandchildren loved to call her, especially enjoyed watching them grow up. She was happiest when they would stay for sleepovers, make cookies, ride in the golf cart, or sit by the campfire.

Pat is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Thom) Roberts, Debbie (Allen) Tetreault and Denise (Michael) Terry, her brother David (Donna) Bechard; her sons; Scott (Mary) Bleau, Kevin (Starr) Bleau, Shawn (Erin) Bleau, her daughter Lindsay (Anthony) Adorboe-Biko, along with her husband, father to their children, and friend Sherman Bleau; her grandchildren; Erin (Ian) Ducharme, Kayla, Brielle, JD, Lily, Gavin, Marley, Maddox, Olive, and Makafui; and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was pre-deceased by her parents, Marcel in 1992 and Wanda in 2009.

Arrangements are entrusted to the M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. Calling Hours will be held at their location on Lake Street on Saturday, September 23 from 10:00-12:00. A graveside service will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Church Street in Rouses Point on Sunday, September 24 at 1:00 pm.

Catherine "Kate" Desautels - March 14, 1948 - September 10, 2023

Obituary Preview: Kate Desautels passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023 at her home in Rouses Point, NY with her family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. We lost a beautiful, kind-hearted lady with a big smile, but heaven has gained an angel.

Kate is now watching over all of us. Kate greeted everyone with a big smile and was a friend to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Kate was born on March 14, 1948 in Hanover NH to William and Janet Carey. They pre-deceased her.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 53 years Stan Desautels, her daughter Karen (Mark) Searles, her son Joseph (Kathy) Desautels and her grandson Ben Searles.

Sisters Pat Carey and Rita (Mike) Fay, brothers Bill (Anne) Carey, Dan (Gail) Carey and Jim (Kathy) Carey. She is also survived by Stan's family: Sisters in law Ann Bilow, Michele (Ken) Gladd, Colette Saucier and Noelle (Eric) Mesunas.

Brothers in law Michael (Diana) Desautels, Phil (Teresa) Desautels, Ross Desautels, Stephen (Tina) Desautels and Christopher Desautels.

Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Frank and John and a sister Georgianna.

He is survived by Tracey Ross of Montreal, Quebec, Anne Bedard and Kylie Gorski of Rouses Point, his mother Patricia (Manor) Bedard of Plattsburgh, his sister Crystal (Joe) Rodarte of Cumberland Head, his brother Marty (Kathy) Bedard of Point au Roche, several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Randy was predeceased by his father, Leo Bedard, his grandparents on both sides and several aunts and uncles.

Randy had an excellent work ethic and was very ambitious. He worked for Smith and Sons, he owned and operated his own excavation and property maintenance business. He was employed by NCCS as a bus driver and had several miscellaneous jobs.

Randy thought the world of his inquisitive feline, Zoey. He adored his first car, a cranberry red 1964 souped-up Ford Falcon, and his awesome red Harley. In his spare time he enjoyed his friends, playing cards, sitting on his swing by the fire with a Coors Light and riding his Harley.

A graveside service will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rouses Point, NY on Saturday August 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow at American Legion #912 in Rouses Point at noon.

(Barcomb) Ducharme who died in 2019. John moved to Chazy to raise his family before returning to Rouses Point for the remainder of his life.

John is survived by his daughter, Tonyea Warren and her husband Francis Warren, grandson Justin Bodah, great-granddaughter Harper Mei Bodah, and son John Ducharme, Jr. John also has five living brothers and three living sisters Rodney, Peter, Paul, Mike, and David, Harriet, Gail, and Jane and their families. John has many nieces and nephews a few living cousins and aunts and uncles. Many friends and his chosen non-biological children such as Amber, Shannon, and Jeff.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and lawn care. John was a general contractor laborer for many years since the age of 16. His first job was with Vic West, then moved to Trahan Construction, then Robert Glode Construction where he retired.

Patricia A. Cronkrite - February 11, 1962 - June 22, 2023

Obituary Preview: Patricia (Patty) Ann Cronkrite, age 61, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 22, 2023. She was born on February 11, 1962 to Milton & Rita Cronkrite.

Patty was born into a loving family that included her older brother, “Big George”, whom she adored. Patty was both a stubborn and sweet child. Her milestones did not come as quickly as most children but she had them nonetheless. Her father taught her to walk by coaxing her with countless chocolate bars. Her childhood summers were spent at camp on Lake Champlain, where Patty learned to swim very well. The loss of her father, Milton, at a young age created an unbreakable bond between Patty and her mother Rita.

Rita was an unwavering and courageous mother to Patty and the family is grateful for her commitment to keeping Patty in the family home. During their time together, Patty & Rita traveled to FL to visit Disney and Patty often spoke of that trip, recounting her love of Mickey Mouse, whom Patty insisted was not a mouse but rather “Mickey Dog”. The loss of her mother as a young adult, brought Patty a tremendous amount of sorrow but also opened a new chapter in Patty’s life where she would be welcomed into the home of her brother George, his wife Louise, and their young family. During these years, Patty would further blossom into her most independent years.

As a young adult, she was a very active member of the Clinton County ARC organization where she found a purpose in serving the local community. Patty would often work in the local churches, where she would help wipe down church pews and straighten prayer books. Her favorite work activity was shredding documents donated by local companies for destruction. She was very proud to show everyone her “office” in the solarium where she would listen to her music and shred papers. During this time Patty was able to experience another childhood of sorts. Alongside her young nephews and nieces Patty would enjoy wonderful summers on the Lake with her family. Countless hours of swimming, going on the jet-ski, and tubing behind the boat with her nephews and nieces were some of Patty’s favorite activities. Her loud hoots of laughter could be heard all along the shores of Point Au Fer.

In her later years, Patty would take an even larger role in the ARC community when she transitioned to assisted living homes. Here she gained even more special and loving friendships that she would cherish forever. Patty will always be remembered for her non-traditional swear words, her feisty attitude, her infectious smile, her choke hold hugs, and her unconditional love of family and friends.

Patty is survived by her sister-in-law and caretaker of almost 20 years, Louise Cronkrite, nephew Milton Cronkrite, nephew Brian and wife Missy Cronkrite, niece Tammy and husband Chad Poirier, niece Kelly Cronkrite. She is also survived by great nieces & nephews – Destiny, Alexia, Baylon, Owen & Jake whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on Thursday June 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church to be immediately followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00am.

Susan M. Duquette - February 15, 1967 - June 15, 2023

Obituary Preview: Susan M. (O’Neill) Duquette, 56, of Rouses Point, New York, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont on June 15, 2023.

Susan attended Northeastern Clinton Central School and graduated in 1985. She was a passionate figure skater and instructor at Rouses Point Civic Center for more than a decade. Susan worked at Wyeth/Ayerst. She was also a Sunday school teacher and active member of the Altar Guild at Christ and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Champlain, New York, along with her family.

Susan is survived by the love of her life, Joe Duquette, husband of 35 years and father of their son, Ryan Duquette. Susan was a very proud and devoted mother to Ryan. Susan is also survived by her father, Bob O’Neill of Venice, Florida, her siblings Lee (Megan) Smith of Westport, Connecticut, Beverly Gover of South Burlington, Vermont, Elizabeth (Beth and Andre’) LaFountain of Venice, Florida, nieces and nephews Christopher, Caroline, Claire, and Sophie Smith, Michael Gover, and Brandon and Cole LaFountain, Uncle John and Aunt Jean Snow, and extended family.

Susan was predeceased by her mother, Sue O’Neill, father-in-law Joseph O. Duquette, Aunt Bev, Uncle Chiefo, and cousin Bobby Wilkins, Uncle Bud and Aunt Helen Snow, and cousins Jari Snow Thwaits and Kim Snow.

Susan’s many interests included crafting, book reading, gardening, painting, interior and outdoor holiday decorating, and following the work and magic of “The Shabby Tree Lady,” a Facebook crafter and artist. Everyone enjoyed Susan’s artistic and craft work.

Susan most enjoyed spending lots of time with Joe, Ryan, and the family’s cocker spaniel, Snowy. She will be dearly missed by all who know her.

Public calling hours will be in Rouses Point at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 148 Lake Street, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Susan’s funeral will be at Christ & St. John’s Episcopal Church at 18 Butternut Street in Champlain on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 1:00 pm; burial will be in Rouses Point at St. Patrick’s Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

Rose Jean Marie Moore - August 28, 1929 - May 04, 2023

Obituary Preview: Rose Jeanne Marie Patnode Moore, 93, was received into God’s loving arms on May 4, 2023. She was the beloved and amazing mother of 10 children, as well as “Great-Meme” of 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Rose, daughter of Jeannette Langevin Patnode and Samuel W. Patnode (formerly Patenaude), was born at the home of her maternal grandparents, Augusta and Paul Langevin, in Ellenburg on Aug. 28, 1929, the fourth of 12 children. She was named for Roman Catholic stigmatist Little Rose Feron, whom she revered throughout her life. Rose attended a one-room schoolhouse in Ellenburg, then, through eighth grade, a new centralized school in nearby Ellenburg Depot. She attended high school at St. Joseph’s Ursuline Academy in Malone, graduating in 1947, then graduated from Loretta Business Institute in Plattsburgh the following year. She then worked as a switchboard operator at Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh.

Rose and Stanley N. Moore were married Oct. 28, 1948, in Fort Jackson in St. Lawrence County, then made their home in Rouses Point.

Mom, whose sense of humor was stellar, was an amazing cook and baker; her hearty soups, galettes, homemade breads, pies and other specialties were a labor of love for her family and neighbors in need, She was a talented seamstress who could create her own patterns and sew anything. A devout Roman Catholic, she loved and respected all God’s children and was a stalwart and passionate champion of the pro-life cause as a member of Champlain Valley Right to Life and supporter of Champlain Valley Birthright. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point and later at St. Mary's in Champlain, holding various offices in both the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar and Rosary Society over the years. She was also a supporter of both POW/MIA and North Country Mission of Hope.

After her husband's death, Rose moved to Northern Tier Housing in Champlain, where she was always grateful to those who welcomed her there. Her daily life continued to be punctuated by prayer for every family member, for the unborn, for all in need. During her time in Champlain, gardening with caregiver and friend Ursula Rocheleau fulfilled Mom's passion for nurturing growing things, whether flowers or vegetables; she shared her harvest with the church and local food shelf and canned endless jars of tomatoes. In 2019, she became a resident at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.

Over the years, Mom enjoyed visiting her widespread family whenever possible, whether by car, train or plane. While she was at Meadowbrook, family members traveled to see her, including during yearly “Moore the Merrier” reunions. A big “thank you” from Rose and her family goes to all the wonderful people at Meadowbrook who cared for her in so many different ways — God bless you.

Mom was predeceased by her daughter, Frances Rose Moore, who died at birth in 1955; husband, Stanley; her brothers Sam Jr., Joseph and Paul; and sisters Rita Pelotte, Marie Walco, Gemma Moore and Jeannette Stacey.

She is survived by her children: Sharon (Bill) Reynolds of Branford, Ct.; Jeffrey (Sue) Moore of Plattsburgh; Paula Cormier of Plattsburgh, Bryan (Suzanne) Moore of Coopersville in Champlain; Thomas (Chong) Moore of Egypt and Las Vegas; Stanley (Lori) Moore Jr. of Binghamton; Mary Carson of Charlottesville, Va.; Rose Sowers of Cincinnati; Teresa (Chris) Benash of Carbondale, Il.; and Joe (Marcia) Moore of Selinsgrove, Pa.; grandchildren: Steven and David F. Reynolds; Ryan and Danny Moore; Ben, Sarah and Josh Gooley; Liz Jackson-Moore, Brittany Moore-Murray and Shelby Moore; Jamie Dubois; Michael and Rachael Moore; Tess Womeldorf, Kirsten Norris and Connor Mathews; Gina and Veronica Martin; Molly and Sean Mulligan; and Gavin Moore; and great-grandchildren Ada Rose, Adoniyas, Blake, Bryson, Cerise, Charlotte, Christian, Clara, David, Ethan, Gabe, Helena, James, Julia, Lenora, Logan, Mason, Misgana, Oliver, Rosabelle and Sidise. Visitation is set for 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. and interment to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. A reception will then take place in St. Patrick's Church hall.

Obituary Preview: Lucille L. Monette passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Rouses Point Sunmount IRA. She was born in Rouses Point on September 24, 1931 to Frances Potvin and William Monette. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Raymond.

Lucille was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and had a very strong faith. She loved to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist.

She spent many years caring for her mother and father, and also helped many other people. She loved to knit and made many afghans for her favorite friends. Always a fun and loving person, she loved to tease everyone and everyone loved to tease her.

Lucille is survived by many friends, especially her housemates at Sunmount, along with her special friend Grace Cardin, who took such good care of her and whom she loved dearly. Throughout her years, she considered her many friends to be her family and they considered her family as well.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday April 5, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point, NY. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the Spring.

Her parents were Delores Herne (Jock), who passed away in 2009, and Joseph R. Herne, who passed away in 2008. She was widowed by her husband James (Robert) Grant in 1997.

Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Our mother was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

Growing up, Bennette was always there for us, whether we needed someone to talk to or just a shoulder to cry on. She was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. Our mother was a true role model who we will always look up to.

She is survived by her daughter Bethany Grant and her son Neil Grant and his wife Abrianna, as well as her brothers and sisters: Robert and Alda Herne, Brian and Patt Herne, Barry and Darlene Herne, Belson and Theresia Herne, Brenda Johnston, Belinda and Vernon White, Bernadine Herne, Briana and Phillip White, Benjamin Herne, and several neices and nephews, as well as her grandchildren: Haley, Hudson and Kateri.

Gene J. Mossey - October 01, 1941 - December 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gene J. Mossey, 81, of Rouses Point, NY passed away on December 14, 2022 at UVM-CVPH Medical Center. Gene was born in Plattsburgh, NY on October 1, 1941, son of the late Gordon and Edith Papin Mossey. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Goven Mossey, and also brother Alfred Mossey.

He attended St. Patrick’s School and Rouses Point High School. He then worked several part-time jobs, and in 1963 enlisted in the U.S. Army Artillery for 3 years, serving in the Vietnam War. He received basic infantry training at both Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC and Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. He then received advanced artillery training at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK.

Gene served a 13-month tour of duty in South Korea along the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea. After returning to the states he served at Fort Knox in Louisville, KY in the armored calvary. From there Gene went to Fort Mead in Baltimore, MD serving on a Hawk Air Defense Missile crew. He then went to Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX also in the air defense. He attained the rank of Sergeant during his service and was honorably discharged at Fort Bliss in 1966.

He then worked at Harris Bindery in Champlain, NY and General Services Administration at the Champlain border crossing. He later became a Patrolman for the Village of Rouses Point, NY and was the police officer in charge for the last two years of his employment with the village. He then became a New York State corrections officer and worked at Great Meadow maximum security prison in Comstock, NY. Then Gene became a State University police officer and worked at Plattsburgh State University where he later was promoted to Lieutenant and served in that position for 10 years until retiring in 1996.

He was a member of the Rouses Point Sportsman’s Club, National Rifle Association, a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8722 and a member of the American Legion Post 912 in Rouses Point.

His loving family includes his children Mark Mossey of Rouses Point, Lori Peete of Champlain, Jefferey Mossey of Rouses Point, grandchildren Justin Peete, Chelsea Peete and her fiancé Jeremy, step-daughters Teegan and Makayla, Cheyenne Mossey and her fiancé Trevor, great-grandchildren Jaiden, Kason and Wyatt, his sisters Ila Daley and her husband Mike of Peru, Irene Honahan and her companion Bruce of Keeseville, NY.

At Gene’s request, there will be no public calling hours or services. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Champlain. Contributions in Gene’s memory may be made to the Meals on Wheels or to the Rouses Point EMS.

Tina was a member of the Catholic Daughters Court in Rouses Point, St. Patrick’s Church, and the South Burlington Senior Center. She was also a founding member of the Rouses Point Fire Department Auxiliary. She was always proud of her business career, her last employer being Trans-Border Customs Services, Inc. in Champlain, NY.

She loved music and dancing, especially with her husband, Andy. Her love for her family was never ending, and she was a devout mother and friend to many.

Tina was pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years Andrew Garrant, brothers Raymond Jubert, Harold Jubert, Arnold Jubert, Herman Jubert and his wife Jean, Maynard Jubert and his wife Virginia, sisters Marquerite and her husband Leo Provencha and Madeline and her husband Lester Sharron, as well as brother-in-law Bud Garrant and sister-in-law Sally (Garrant) Bechard.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey and his partner Dean Pratt of South Burlington, VT, sisters-in-law Barbara Jubert (Rouses Point, NY) and Jacqueline Jubert (Plattsburgh, NY), several nieces and nephews, and many friends. A special thanks to her dear friend Cathy Dumas who made weekly trips from Mooers, NY to visit her and to the entire staff at Birchwood.

Virginia was born July 10, 1939 in Rouses Point, the daughter of Earl and Ruth Legnard. She married Robert Guay on September 2, 1961. She worked as a secretary and receptionist at F.W. Myers, Northeastern Clinton Central School District, and Delagar Products. She will be remembered as a devoted and caring mother who, along with her husband, raised three sons, and as a grandmother who loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by son Terrence and wife Pattie Guay of State College, PA, son Wayne and wife Eileen Potash of Philadelphia, PA, granddaughter Jewely Guay of Pinetops, NC, granddaughter Haley Guay of Washington, DC, granddaughter Laura Guay of Harrisburg, PA, grandson Nathan Guay of Ithaca, NY, great-grandchildren Enola Guay and Elan Guay of Pinetops, NC, sister Shirley Bechard of Rouses Point, brother George Legnard and partner Faith Lamberton of Rouses Point, sister-in-law Theresa Venne of Plattsburgh, sister-in-law Bernadette Halstead of Peru, brother-in-law Frank Guay and wife Sue of Middletown, NY, sister-in-law Mary Ann Coopy and husband Bill of Remsen, NY, 15 nieces and nephews and their families, and long-time friends Theresa and Noel Hinerth and Linda and Bruce Gaudette of Rouses Point. Virginia was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years Robert C. Guay, son Neil Guay, grandson Robert A. Guay, parents Earl and Ruth Legnard, brother Earl Legnard, and dear friend John Rowe.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

She loved to share the history of Rouses Point and stories of the past with family and friends. Laura married Gerald Pelkey in 1956 and they lived in Germany while he served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon their return, they resided in Rouses Point where they raised six children. Laura held various jobs, including at F.W. Myers & Co. and UPS. She was appreciated by her co-workers for her outgoing, lively personality and sense of fun. Laura was happiest surrounded by family and friends. She had a youthful, light-hearted attitude and was fun to be around. She was a long-time, avid Boston Red Sox fan and for years proudly flew their flag in her front yard. She also followed college basketball with a passion and was a loyal Duke fan. She is survived by four children; Gerald (Bonnie) Pelkey, Donna (Jacques) Giroux, Marty (Laurie) Pelkey and Barbara (Donald) Guay. She also leaves behind two sisters; Dorothy Gibson and Gloria Ashline; six grandchildren; Ryan Bahry, Alexandra Bahry, Mathew Pelkey, Meagan Pelkey, Hilary Converse and Cameron Hurlburt, as well as three great grandchildren; Carter Baxter, Maeve Baxter and Max Converse along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Gerald; two children Linda Pelkey Bahry and Dean Pelkey and son-in-law Gordon Hurlburt. She was also predeceased by siblings: Gerald Ashline, Elizabeth Mary Ashline, Adeline Barnes, Helen Root and Veronica Gonyo.A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday April 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Coopersville at a later date.
