Obituary Preview: Maria (Marina, Marusya) Gerasimova was born in Polish village Cieplice on February 27, 1945, a few months before the end of WWII, to the family of Russian soldier Vladimir and Ukrainian woman Anastasiya. She grew up in Ukrainian town Shchyrets, and lived a large portion of her life in St. Petersburg, Russia. Maria passed away at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in the city of Novi, Michigan, shortly after she turned 79.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents Vladimir Boryshnyak and Anastasiya Wolczasta, as well as her father-in-law Sidor Gembel and her two brothers Peter and Roman Gembel. Maria is survived by her husband of 52 years Vladimir, her three children Anna, Ivan, and Anastasiya, and her six grandchildren Ivan, Andrey, Nikolas, Ekaterina, Yaroslav, and Elizabeth Jane, along with other extended family members in Ukraine and Russia.
Maria was a rarely beautiful soul, always admiring God’s creations and in awe of the world’s beauty. Despite her life-long health struggles, she was always very friendly, warm, and social, always looking for personal connections with people, even strangers. Selfless, open and honest to the core, willing to give away her last belongings, she has had the biggest heart and the softest, warmest hands in the world. There were two things Maria loved the most: her family and her God, the Lord Jesus Christ. There wouldn’t be a day when Maria wasn’t talking with admiration about her own mother Anastasiya, her grandchildren, or The Lord. Every day and every night she was praying for love, health, and peace for her family, and thanking God for everything. She was deeply loved and will be tremendously missed by her family and friends, and her memories will be cherished forever.
Friends may visit and say goodbye to Maria on Saturday, March 30, 2024 between 11:00am and 2:45pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home. There will be a religious service for her at the same location around 2:00pm. Maria will be buried at the Walled Lake Cemetery at 3:00pm following the service ceremony. There will be a “Celebration of Life” gathering after the funeral at the community room of the Walled Lake Villa Apartments.
