Mary Elizabeth Souder - May 01, 1926 - May 09, 2024

Departed: 05/09/2024 (Milford)
Obituary Preview: Mary was born in Detroit living in the house that her father designed. She often reflected on climbing the fruit trees in the yard, collecting the fruits with her father, and taking them to the grocer to trade for sugar and other supplies. Mary enjoyed childhood escapades with her twin sister, Barbara.
Mary earned her bachelor degree from Albion for education. During her time at Albion, she spoke fondly about her sports, especially playing field hockey. She received her master’s degree in art education from the University of Michigan.
Although Mary spent most of her spare time painting, she loved all forms of art and shared that love in her teaching. She often told a story about her teaching experience at Redford Union High School. Mary was 5’2” tall and always looked young for her age. Her fellow teachers, who hadn’t met her yet, would scold her for being in the halls after the bell had rung.
Mary’s love of art continued through her life. She joined several art groups including the BBAA, the Pallet and Brush, the Garrett Gallery, and more.
When she was in her twenties, Mary and her family moved to Beverly Hills where she met Jack. Mary and Jack were married in 1955 and moved to West Bloomfield. Years later she moved to Milford. Mary has three children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mary is survived by her children, David Souder, Ann Solce, and Nancy Scherr; her grandchildren, James Solce (Stefanie), Kristin Guise (Robert), and David Solce, Danielle Scherr, Allison Scherr, and Rebecca Scherr, and her great-grandchildren, Violet and Penelope Solce, and Cailin and William Guise.
In addition to Mary’s love of art, was her love of photography and travel. She and Jack enjoyed trips that included several visits to the Southwest, Alaska, Germany, Switzerland and the Scandinavian Countries. All of her trips are preserved in photographs and in her artwork.
Mary was known to be stubborn and that showed right to the end, making it to her 98th birthday on May first.

Donna Marie Kozlowski - October 27, 1946 - May 08, 2024

Departed: 05/08/2024 (Milford)
Obituary Preview: Donna M. Kozlowski, a longtime resident of Highland Twp., MI passed away in the morning hours of Wednesday, May 8, 2024. She was 77 years old.
Donna Marie Campbell was born in Detroit, MI October 27, 1946. She grew up in Detroit where her parents owned a small grocery store. Donna’s childhood in Detroit was during a very special time in the city’s history, when it was more like a small town than big city. She graduated from St. Hedwig’s High school in 1964. She enjoyed sharing memories of her younger years with her daughters, such as going out dancing, taking trips over to Windsor, and having fun with friends doing the things young woman enjoyed in the 1960s. After high school Donna worked as a clerk at Lincoln Hospital, where she met Trudy Walker. Donna and Trudy have been good friends ever since. She met her future husband in Detroit in 1968, where their first date was a Red Wings game. According to Bob she hadn’t even heard of hockey, let alone been to a game. But it only took one, and she was hooked for life. Bob says she loved how fast the players zoomed around the rink, but her absolute favorite part were the fights!
Bob and Donna Kozlowski wed in 1970 at St Anne’s church in Detroit. A favorite family memory is of their first apartment together in Dearborn. Their one room apartment had a Murphy’s bed, which could only be set up each night if they moved their only dresser in front of the exit door. Donna discovered another life long love/passion in the early 70’s. She and Bob took a trip to Disney World in 1973 only a few years after the parks grand opening. Donna has been to Disney many times since.
Donna and Bob’s first home was in Westland, Mi. They lived in a tight knit neighborhood. Every summer they would have incredible block parties with all of their neighbors. Donna loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. During the families’ years in Westland her 3 daughters all participated in ice skating. Donna took them to every practice and competition, loving every minute of it. During the years in ice skating, Donna met her longtime friend, Kathy Beckelhammer, with whom she remains friends with to this day. Other fond memories of that time, are spending family vacations at camp Dearborn. The girls would spend the week running from one activity to the next while Bob and Donna enjoyed relaxing around camp playing one of their favorite games, Boggle.
In 1988 Bob and Donna bought land in the then, tiny town of Highland. They built their forever home there, much of it with their own two hands. Every Christmas for over 20 years they hosted Christmas Eve dinner with the family. Donna always enjoyed hosting the party and seeing everyone get together. The girls went to high school in Highland. Michelle and Karyn both joined the band. Donna quickly volunteered to be a chaperone for the band trips. She loved going with the kids all over MI, and many places beyond. She loved it so much she eventually became the bands’ head chaperone. Kelly chose cheerleading and Donna always enjoyed watching her youngest cheer at sporting events.
Donna never stopped loving her Red Wings. Once her children were grown, she joined the Wings’ booster club, helping out at the Joe when ever volunteers were needed. Sometimes she would travel to other cities around the country, and Toronto as well, for club events and to watch games.
If you had the privilege to know Donna Kozlowski you know the most importing thing to her was family, there was nothing else that even came close. She loved each of her grandchildren with a devotion rarely seen in someone so tiny! Her passion for family and time spent together was remarkable. The only thing that rivaled her love for family in her life was her devotion to church. Even after she was no longer physically able to attend mass; she would dutifully watch from home every Sunday morning.
It is difficult to compress a person’s life into such a short summary. Especially one who had a life of so much fun and adventure. A life that saw so many changes in the world around her. Family memories of good times, from all night girl scout events at the Henry Ford Museum to being the High school “friend Mom” that everyone loved, to Christmas nighttime visits to Greenfield village for bonfires, hot chocolate, singing Christmas carols, and rides in old model T cars. Donna loved it all. She was a woman of character and strength. A strength that always put the needs of those she loved in front of her own. She will be tremendously missed.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert Kozlowski; her daughters, Michelle Kozlowski, Karyn (Phil) Macheca, and Kelly Kozlowski; her grandchildren, Wyatt, Jacob, Marcus and Isabella; her canine companion, Ginger as well as many close friends and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Kozlowski, and her parents, Louis and Alva Campbell.
Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 2:00PM - 8:00PM. A Rosary service will begin at 7:00PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce St, Milford, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11:00AM with gathering to begin at 10:00AM. The Rev. Fr. Placido Pereira to officiate. Burial to follow in Highland Cemetery.

Alice Apolonia Caminsky - February 26, 1925 - May 08, 2024

Departed: 05/08/2024 (Milford)
Obituary Preview: Alice Caminsky was born on February 26, 1925, on Commor Street in Hamtramck, Michigan, at the family home of Walter and Mary Luniewski. One of two Luniewski children who survived into adulthood, after the death of her sister Jessie in 1945, Alice was the sole surviving child of the immigrant family who lived long enough to see children and grandchildren come into the world.
As a little girl attending St. Ladislaus School in Hamtramck, Alice was so impressed with the nuns who taught the classes that she dreamed of being a teacher herself, often arranging the kitchen chairs into a classroom where she could teach her dolls all the subjects she was learning in school. Years later, attending Hamtramck High, she was summoned into the principal’s office from her secretarial classes, and was relieved (if baffled) to be told that her teachers wanted her to transfer into the college-prep classes, telling her that after impressing her teachers, they wanted her to consider going to college, and would help her family find the scholarship help needed to finance her education.
Impressing her English teacher with one of her essays, Alice was taken to meet the school’s debate coach, Mrs. Olmstead --- who became her friend and mentor, and whose highly skilled debate team included Alice and future congressman Lucien Nedzi, who became a close, lifelong friend. Though her argument received high praise from the judges, their team’s chance to win the state championship probably foundered when they drew the negative side on debating the question of instituting universal military training, when the finals occurred shortly after Pearl Harbor.
After graduating from Michigan State, Alice met and married Wallace Caminsky, whom she met when her future husband and his friends crashed a wedding…leading to a wedding of their own on November 27, 1948. They soon moved to a small house in Royal Oak, where their first son, Jeffrey, joined them. The family moved to Redford in 1954, shortly before greeting their second son, Christopher, and where they became members of St. Valentine’s parish. There, the family formed many lasting friendships, and she became a second mom to a host of neighborhood kids.
Having achieved her childhood dream of becoming a teacher, Alice began her career at Warren High School, where she taught English, and was the school’s drama coach. Paying forward Mrs. Olmstead’s inspiring example, among the many students she mentored was a bright young girl named Regina who --- with Alice’s encouragement --- went on to college, law school, and eventually became a judge. After a hiatus spent trying in vain to corral two mischievous sons and their friends, she returned to teaching in the mid-1960s, first as a substitute teacher, and later founding the English as a Second Language program for Redford Union Schools, where she taught students from all over the world.
After she and her husband retired, Alice spent much of her time spoiling her grandchildren, Jason and Julie --- and later her great-grandchildren, Alana, Elise and Ethan --- while also continuing her interest and involvement in politics and public affairs, history and education. They enjoyed spending winters in St. Augustine, Florida, where the extended family spent many weeks enjoying (and getting burned by) the Florida sun, the ocean, and the many attractions Florida offers to folks fleeing the northern Winters.
Wallace died in 2014, leaving a hole in her heart, and soon Alice moved to Milford, to be close to family. There she enjoyed good health, and a razor-sharp mind, becoming a fixture in her senior community until her frail body started to wear out.
Alice slipped away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 99, leaving her own large hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Navona) and Christopher (Catherine) Caminsky, her grandson, Jason Caminsky, and granddaughter Julie (Scott) Goldman, and great-grandchildren, Alana Wozniak, and Ethan and Elise Goldman.
Memorial visitation will take place from 3:00PM - 8:00PM at Lynch & Sons, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. A Time of Sharing and family led Rosary service will begin at 7:00PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica,
2100 Twelve Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48073.  Friends and family may gather at the church beginning at 9:30AM.

Fred Stanton - February 04, 1947 - April 26, 2024

Departed: 04/26/2024 (Milford)
Obituary Preview: Gary Frederick 'Fred' Stanton, a beloved resident of White Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on February 4, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to George and Beatrice Stanton, Fred cherished his early years in the city before eventually moving to the suburbs.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy; his daughters Jennifer (Paul) Fuga and Elizabeth (Billy) Kepler; his grandchildren Harrison and Alexandra; his sister Judy (Roy) Hannan, and numerous extended family members and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Stanton.
Fred and Nancy shared a deep and enduring love, creating a warm and welcoming home in Highland where they raised their two daughters. Their residence on White Lake was not only a place of comfort for family but also housed Stanton Business Forms, where Fred worked diligently alongside Nancy for nearly 38 years. Known for his exceptional work ethic and integrity, Fred earned a stellar reputation as the go-to guy in the business community, with clients across Michigan and beyond touting his expertise with the phrase, "Call Fred, he can do it!” Fred was also really talented in many different trades, being able to engineer, fix or create anything he put his mind too.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Fred found joy in simple pleasures such as, boating on the lake, participating in boat parades, and indulging his passion for motorcycling alongside Nancy. An active member of charitable organizations, Fred generously offered his time and resources to those in need. His love for nature, hunting, and loud music (the louder, the better) reflected his zest for life, but above all, Fred was a true Patriot who cherished his faith, family, and country, considering them gifts from God. Upon retiring in 2015, he delighted in escaping Michigan winters for the sunny tranquility of the Florida Keys.
Fred's legacy will be forever cherished by his family—wife, Nancy (Babe); children Jen, Paul, Lizzy, and Billy; his greatest gifts from God, grandchildren, Harrison (Grand), and Alex (Wild Cat). His kindness, dedication, and vibrant spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be held privately.

George Grinnell Martin - April 12, 1943 - April 25, 2024

Departed: 04/25/2024 (Milford)
Obituary Preview: George Grinnell Martin, Esq. of Milford, died on Thursday, April 25, 2024 in Minneapolis/St. Paul where he’d moved to be near his daughters and son as he struggled with complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 81 years old. Born April 12, 1943 in Detroit at Women's (Hutzel) Hospital, he was the son of George Beyster Martin and Ellen Grinnell granddaughter of the founder of Grinnell Brothers Music in Detroit and Ann Arbor. Raised in Palmer Woods he attended Hampton Grade School where he was one of four Gentiles in the class, many of whom were the sons and daughters of Jewish families who escaped the Holocaust and World War II. He regarded it as a gift that he learned early what it was like to be in the minority, to feel like “the other.”
George went to Cranbrook High School where he boarded, thence to Dartmouth University majoring in Economics. Graduated Dartmouth in 1965, where he was in ROTC and went as second lieutenant in 1966, with the US Army, Fort Bliss Texas, Fort Jackson, SC and then to Korea where he lived a year. Commander of Hawk Missile Battery - anti aircraft missile. Came home on his 25th Birthday in 1968, and went to University of Michigan Business School, working for Ernst & Ernst in Detroit. Won Paton Award for the highest score on Michigan CPA Exam while there. After discerning that lawyering would be more interesting than just accounting, he attended Michigan Law School starting in 1976 graduated in 1979 and went to work with Miller Canfield in Detroit from 1979, working in Hospital Financing, writing bonding documents for Ford Hospital, incredibly complex deals were done during the expanding days of medicine and health care, but he noticed, working for the large firm that "billable hours," kept on an alphabetical list would take precedence over quality of work in determining a lawyers worth. George left Miller Canfield and opened his own practice in Milford, Michigan on Union and Liberty Street where he practiced since moving to Milford in 1978. Lived on Buno Road in Milford Twp.
In 2007 he attended his 50th Grade School Reunion. People from all over the world attended and reconnected through email and Facebook. Of his grade school classmates, more than half went into the professions, lawyers, doctors, college professors. Education was very important to that generation.
He married Barbara Draper and though they later divorced, they maintained a cordial relationship. They had three children: Kate (Rick Dallmeyer) Martin, Joseph (Mary) Martin and Ellen Martin.
Since April 1, 1974 he learned to take one day at a time in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, proving, George claimed, that “any fool could get sober, because he did.” He spent eight years going to New York as past chair of the Board of Directors of the AA National Service Board. He gave the keynote address at the General Services Conference in 2013 and practiced the principals of the fellowship in all of his affairs which made him in every aspect, sober, humble, happy, joyous and free. He served on the board of Debtors Anonymous. Constantly curious and erudite, he was an attorney, a CPA and a lifelong learner. He learned to speak Spanish in his 70's and was a teachers’ assistant in the Philosophy Department at Oakland Community College, Orchard Ridge. He was a voracious reader, a good listener, a vegetarian and an easy man to admire and love, and always signed off with “Be of good cheer!”
George was a Member of Milford Presbyterian Church, Men’s Bible Study, Old Farts Coffee Club, Michigan and American Bar Associations, Detroit Golf Club, Detroit Athletic Club, and loved University of Michigan Football, long road trips, old and new movies, proper punctuation, good bargains and genial conversations. He traveled all through Western Europe and Australia, driven the Alcan Highway to Alaska and tried never to pay for things he could do himself. He was pleased to have voted twice for Barack Obama and never for Donald Trump, but otherwise kept his politics and religion to himself.
He received a letter from the church once that said he was an “inactive member,” possibly because he spent more time in the church basements at AA meetings than in the sanctuary. He promptly made a donation and was renewed as a member in good standing, leading him to remark, in characteristic good humor, that there are the “praying kind and the paying kind.” He was happy to be both.
After fifty years of uninterrupted sobriety, after assisting and sponsoring countless other recovering drunks, George had developed a rich internal life and believed that the spiritual life is not a theory; one had to live it.
In addition to his daughters and son, George is survived by his granddaughters, Cecile Crosby Dallmeyer and Julia Mae Dallmeyer, his sisters Marilyn Keil of Chicago and Hendrieka (Gerry) Bloom of Troy, and a wide circle of friends who join with his family in mourning the passing of a good man and giving thanks to God for his life among them.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday June 8, 2024 at Milford Presbyterian Church on Main Street at Liberty Blvd. in downtown Milford. The Reverend Doug McMunn will officiate.
Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 404 E. Liberty, Milford on Friday, June 7th from 4-9PM.
George’s ashes will be buried in Alden Cemetery, near Torch Lake where the family had a summer cottage, later in the summer.

Claudette Marie Bourseleth - February 13, 1946 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Milford)
Obituary Preview: Claudette (Claude) Marie Bourseleth, 78, of White Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 15th 2024 after a brief battle with ALS.
Claude was born on February 13th, 1946 to Lawrence and Mildred Flum in Detroit, Michigan. She was the third of 6 children and was raised in Detroit and Oak Park. Claude graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1964 and began her career working for a plumbing company as an office administrator. Claude enjoyed traveling with her family on ski trips in the winter and to the lakes in the summer. The sisters were skilled in sewing and would often spend their time making matching dresses and trying to copy the latest McCalls pattern design.
Her childhood memories are fondly tied to spending family time with all her aunts and cousins and enjoying the closeness of such a large family. It was one of her aunts that was best friends with her future mother in law that made the introductions where Claude met the love of her life, the late Thomas Bourseleth. They were married August 22nd, 1970. They were together 15 years until Tom’s quick battle with cancer and passing in 1986.
Claude and Tom welcomed three girls into their family in the 1970’s: Anne, Claire and Ruth. They moved from Detroit to White Lake in the search of having space for the girls to play outside and enjoy the lake living to share Tom's love of boating and fishing. While the house was full of barbies for many years, they still found a way to raise their girls to appreciate the outdoors with hiking and skiing and enjoy many nights camping year round. During the girls' elementary years, Claude was an active classroom parent and participated as the picture lady sharing her love of art with the students. She also made sure to bring the girls to the art museums whenever they visited a new town and could be found with her stencil and oil paints in the living room at nights.
After Tom’s passing, Claude was a young single mom trying to do her best to raise three spirited young girls. She went to work at Hudson’s in the drapery department for several years before deciding to pursue her secondary education and obtain a bachelors in education from Eastern Michigan University. There she found her passion to teach special education students and especially focused on those with visual impairments. She then continued her educational pursuits and obtained a Masters in Education at Oakland University. She spent her teaching career at The School District for the City of Pontiac and then retired in July 1, 2008.
She was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland, MI for almost 50 years. From her own grief after her husband passed, she found great comfort in service to others with the Funeral ministry and participating in grief support groups as well. She was also active in the Women's Club and participated on many of the religious pilgrimages the church coordinated.
Claude was deep in her convictions and beliefs and fought tirelessly for many years to obtain a service connected death for Tom’s passing from his time in the Army in Vietnam. She finally was approved this year and should be commended for her resilience and all the detailed notes she kept over the years for this mission and not giving up when so many doors were closed.
She was a woman of service and also raised two puppies for the Leader Dogs of the Blind to help those with visual impairments benefit from having a seeing eye dog.
Claude was diagnosed with ALS in February 2024 and her body rapidly declined over the last few months. Her bravery and conviction of faith held her in comfort during these moments when her body failed to respond. She was able to express her deep love for her family and friends and wanted to let everyone know she loved them dearly. She touched the lives of many from her students at school to her church groups. She was always there to help those in need.
While we mourn the loss of Claudette's physical presence, we take comfort in knowing that she has been called home to be with her Heavenly Father and reunited with her beloved. May her legacy of faith continue to inspire us all, reminding us of the power of belief, the beauty of redemption, and the promise of eternal life.
Claudette is survived by her three children, Anne (Jeff) Mitchell, Claire (Terry) Richardson and Ruth Bourseleth, her four grandchildren: three grandsons Emmett, Jordan and Donovan and one granddaughter Camille. She is also survived by her loving sisters Barbara Ashley, Mary Banny, Patricia (Eric) Bushon and her departed brothers Jerome Flum and Thomas Flum, brother and sister in law Dennis and Rosemarie Robak, countless nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family will deeply miss her.
Claudette loved flowers so while the family did not want to discourage this offering they also wanted to share that she wanted to donate to a scholarship fund for single moms going to college.
A fund will be set up in her honor, details are still pending.
Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381 on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 from 2 - 7pm. A Rosary will be held at 6pm.
