Rita was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed. The loves of her life were her grand and great-grandchildren. A day did not go by without talking about all of them. She spent countless minutes on the phone or FaceTiming them but there was nothing better than a visit. Her beautiful smile became radiant as she enjoyed being Grandma and Gigi. That smile was admired by so many people in her life. Their home was always the center of festivities. She was so kind and welcoming to everyone. Rita was a fabulous cook and could flip from Polish to Italian dishes in a heartbeat. She was well known for baking THE best cookies, cakes and pies. Her specialty were her nut and poppyseed rolls (Kolachi). She enjoyed sharing stories with her children about her mother Mary whom she had inherited her baking skills and kindness to others.
Rita and Ron loved taking trips together. When their children were young they never went anywhere without them. Even as adults she enjoyed girl trips with her daughters, granddaughters and nieces. When first wed they lived in California for over 7 years taking the kids to the beach, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and area parks. In 1967 they loaded up their station wagon and drove 3,000 miles with three young children in tow to finally come back home to Pennsylvania.
The center of her world was her husband Ron. They did everything together. She struggled for over 35 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis and as it got harder Ron stepped in to be her hands and feet. She always wanted to be engaged in life around her and no matter how bad a day she was having, she found a way to be present. Rita was always up for a card game of Hand and Foot. Her family would join in and they would laugh for hours over who really should have won. She was quite fond of Linda’s dog Charlie. In the past few years he became more theirs than Linda’s with whom she resided. Rita’s legacy will always be her family.
