Patti Sue Good - March 18, 1961 - April 29, 2024

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Springfield)
Obituary Preview: Patti Sue Good, 63, of Springfield, died on Monday, April 29, 2024, at her home.
She was born on March 18, 1961, in Eau Claire, WI, the daughter of Roger and Harriet (Henrichs) Wanner. Patti married Gregg Good on September 19, 1981, in Wausau, WI.
First and foremost, Patti was a faithful and loving partner to her husband, Gregg, for 42.5 years, and a loving and wonderful mother to her sons, Andrew (AJ), Thomas, and Tucker. Her life exemplified sacrifice, faithfulness, and service to her own family and to many families from around the world.
Her most important and loved job was that of being “Mom.” She left full-time employment as Sales Director for the Hilton Hotel in Springfield to become a full-time Mom when AJ was born. Despite losing the income, she knew God would provide. Brothers Thomas and Tucker soon arrived, and together they were the reason for her existence. She was always there when they got off the school bus with a snack, warm cookies, and a questioning of how their days went, ensuring that they strived each day for “A’s” and nothing less. To make financial ends meet throughout the years, she started a DCFS-regulated day care in her home, followed by doing medical transcription work largely late into the nights after the kids went to bed.
Throughout the years, Patti (with a little help from Gregg) hosted over 20 foreign exchange students in their home from around the world. She not only was Mom to her three sons, but to each of these eager teenagers who left their homes to learn about America. She loved hosting so much that she became statewide coordinator for AYUSA, the umbrella organization that brought students to the USA. That AYUSA experience allowed her to travel the world, experiencing, learning, and tasting different cultures, foods, politics, and religions.
While always a mom, her “post-Mom” years saw her in an almost unimaginable role as building manager for HD Smith properties in Springfield. This job she so deeply loved solidified that she had the gift and will to do anything she put her mind to.
While she liked to garden, her greatest love was being an outstanding baker. No one could match her sourdough, lemon twist, or Easter breads. And as their t-shirts stated, she made sure granddaughters Lucy and Abby were “Bakers in Training.” She served on numerous church groups and, together with Gregg, taught Sunday School for years. She had a heart for and assisted the First Step Women’s Center in Springfield who show would-be-mothers that abortion is not the only way out. She was a strong woman who never backed down to those that challenged her values and beliefs. She taught her sons how to love and dedicate their lives to her three wonderful daughters-in-law, to think on their own two feet, to face consequences when necessary, to be kind and respectful, and that “Goods don’t quit.”
Despite beating cancer 28 years ago, she never quit fighting her two-and-a-half-year battle with metastatic melanoma that ultimately could not be stopped despite seven courses of treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. To her dying breath, she showed her loved ones how to face death with bravery, and a belief and reverence to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without it, her husband Gregg would never have made it through her hospice days and ultimate departure from this earth.
Words cannot describe what she meant to Gregg, his one and only true love and partner in life. She will be sorely missed by him and by those she met, served, and touched. She now has angels’ wings and promised to send signals to her husband and sons that Heaven is indeed a wonderful place and that she will see and hug them once again.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Patti is survived by her husband, Gregg Good of Springfield; sons, Andrew (Bethany) Good of Springfield; Thomas (Kelly) Good and Tucker (Samantha) Good, both of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Lucy, Henry, and Abby Good; siblings, Jeffrey (Sherri) Wanner, Randy (Charlene) Wanner, and Gina (Bruce) Maatta, all of Wausau, WI.
Cremation was provided by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used in Patti’s memory at a later date.

Andy was a proud military veteran, who honorably served his country in the United States Army. Having a keen aptitude for auto mechanics and business, Andy was an entrepreneur, owning gas stations in Chicago, IL and Rolling Meadows, IL. In 1978, having become disenchanted with harsh winters and wanting to pursue other opportunities, Andy relocated to Orlando, FL, where he embarked on a successful second career as a real estate broker. During his “retirement” years, he enjoyed delivering ambulances all around the country for Wheeled Coach. He was passionate about traveling, loved to share stories about his many adventures, and was proud to have visited 46 states. Most of all, Andy was a devoted and loving family man. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He took great interest in whatever they were involved in - from soccer to piano and guitar performances to playing video games - Gramps enthusiastically participated! He would often say there wasn’t anything more important to him than his family, and his engaged involvement with all of us showed he meant every word.

The family will deeply miss our one-of-a-kind, fun, independent, self-determined, fixer-of-anything, devoted and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He would want us to remember what he often said, “I have had a great life!" Some of his last words to us were “Enjoy Life Out There” — it would honor him to do just that.
