Bettye S. Simpson - May 21, 1958 - March 24, 2024

Departed: 03/24/2024 (Ontario)
Obituary Preview: Bettye Sue Simpson was born to Bill and Bettye Simpson on May 21, 1958 in St. Helens, Oregon. When she was three years old the family moved to Ontario, Oregon where her father was a state policeman. She attended school in Ontario and graduated in 1976. Bettye worked for Mountain Bell and then AT&T for 31 years. She transferred from Boise to Seattle, to Phoenix, and then to Birmingham, Alabama. Upon her retirement she moved back to Ontario. It was always her desire to live close to family.
Crafting was always part of Bettye's life. She enjoyed jewelry making, counted cross stitch, crocheting, cooking, and reading. Many of her loved ones enjoyed receiving cards she had made with rubber stamps. Bettye loved movies and videos, but she especially loved Disney. She could come up with an obscure referece or an actor's name quicker than anyone else we know. She was clever and funny and so much fun to be with. Bettye was the queen of the snappy comback. She enjoyed skewering the men in the family in particular.
The last few years of Bettye's life were difficult as she had multiple health issues. She lived with Doris Ann for around ten years. Just as she had with our parents, Doris Ann cared for Bettye in all the ways needed through many good times as well as some very rough periods.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Kurt Deters. She is survived by her siblings Doris Ann Simpson of Nyssa, Oregon, Toni Saathoff of Torringon, Wyoming, Patti Deters (Don Deters) of Meridian, Idaho, Ben Simpson (Terri Jensen) of Meridian, Idaho, and Charlotte Cose (Cordell) of Orland, California, plus nieces Tracye Bernard, Kate Deters, and Claire Deters and nephew Billy Wade.
The family is extremely grateful first and foremost to Doris Ann who went above and beyond every day. We are grateful to Billy Wade and Sacora Carter who helped keep Doris Ann sane many times by their loving support and assistance. Also we appreciate the ambulance and hospital personnel in Nyssa, Ontario, and Boise who showed compassion and humor in caring for her.
The family will have a private celebration of life at a future date.

Susan Y. Matsumoto - September 26, 1946 - March 07, 2024

Departed: 03/07/2024 (Ontario)
Obituary Preview: Susan left us on March 7, 2024, following a “long goodbye” to her family and friends. She had been residing at Sunset Villa in Ontario, Oregon for almost two years prior to her death. Even as she continued to experience a decline in her functioning, she managed to engage staff, other residents, family and friends with her humor and personality.
Susan was the first child born to Toby and Marjorie Matsumoto. She and her parents lived in Brogan , Oregon where her father was employed on a farm. The family later relocated to Ontario, Oregon when her parents found jobs in town , and Susan was joined by the birth of her brother, Nolan. Much of her childhood was spent with her Murata cousins, and an expanded family developed. Susan has always been a part of the Murata family. Although she’d moved away, she returned to care for her mother until her death in 2009. Later, she made numerous trips back to Ontario to visit and help care for her Auntie Grace….frequently taking her on trips, outings and simply being present. The Murata family will forever be grateful for her presence during that time.
Susan also remained in touch with her Mother’s family, engaging in events and maintaining relationships with the Yoshida families. She valued those family ties as evidenced by their ongoing contact and their concern for her wellbeing.
After graduating from Ontario High School, she attended Treasure Valley Community College. During that time , she was employed at Eastside Florist, where her love for plants and flowers flourished. Later, after moving to Tucson, Arizona, she was again employed with another floral business. In 1977, she became employed with the Tucson City Police Dept. as a dispatcher/ first responder. When she retired, 33 years later, she was was honored as an outstanding officer, noting her “dedication, humor and an incredible work ethic”. However, her job was was not only a “job”. Many of her co-workers and their families became Susie’s “Tucson family”. She regularly shared her culinary delights ( homemade goodies and cooking)with these friends on holidays, their family gatherings/special events and “ just because”. Her generosity and thoughtfulness were well known. She has been rewarded by their continued contact, support and love.
Mostly, Susan will be remembered for her love of animals. She rescued homeless cats and dogs, making them a part of her personal family. She saved many of their lives, giving them a quality of life that many of us would envy. Her volunteer and advocacy work at an animal shelter occupied much of her retirement interest as she used her own resources to provide them with safety and integrity. In return, they gave her loyalty and love becoming the heart of her home. In 2021, Susan was diagnosed with a progressive debilitating disease. Despite her stubbornness and desire to remain independent, she took a leap of faith to return to her family in Ontario and accepted assistance for her safety and long term care needs. Although she didn’t like giving up her independence, she expressed her appreciation for the comfort and care she received . We thank her friends and caregivers at Sunset Villa and Signature Hospice for their compassionate care, and to her “Tucson family” for their ongoing support and efforts to encourage and involve Susan in their lives. And to all those pets she took in, “ thank you” for the unconditional love that only pet groupies can give. Thank you, Susan , for being a part of our lives,,,,
A Farewell Memorial Gathering will be held at Lienkaemper Chapel in Ontario, Oregon on March 25,2024, between the hours of 3-5 pm. The family invites you to share your memories /stories and “goodbyes” to Susan.

Willis M. Tipton - April 28, 1931 - January 29, 2024

Departed: 01/29/2024 (Ontario)
Obituary Preview: Dr. Willis Tipton, 92, went to be with Our Lord on January 29, 2024. He passed away peacefully at his home in Ontario surrounded by his devoted family and dear friends.
Willis was born to Willie Northway Tipton and Ethel Irene McWilliams in Crystal, Idaho between Payette and Weiser, on April 28, 1931. They lived in a tarpaper dwelling that his father built himself. Fighting the ravages of the Great Depression, his father jumped a freight train to find work via the hobo jungle of Portland, Oregon armed only with a sack of cornbread and onion sandwiches. He found work in Klamath Falls where little Willis and his mother joined him. Willis attended three different grade schools there, and another six in various towns of the Pacific Northwest, including Coquille, Gold Beach, and Norway, Oregon where his brother Melvin was born in 1937. In 1941, his father took welder’s training and in 1942 got a job building Victory Ships at Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, Washington. Willis attended five different schools in the Portland-Vancouver area during that period. In 1944, the family moved on to Grants Pass where his father worked in the timber industry and Willis attended school from seventh grade on. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1949.
After high school, Willis took a job at a sawmill where an injury would prove to be a fortuitous event and pivotal moment in his life; for it was his visit to the X-ray department that set him on a new career path and led him to his bride. In 1950, he began X-ray technician training at Mercy Hospital in Nampa, Idaho under the supervision of head technician and Basque beauty Alice Gabica. He completed training in June 1951. That October, Willis joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On February 6, 1952, while on leave, Willis and Alice were married at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Nampa, Idaho. He was stationed at Amarillo air force base, and subsequently at Anderson air force base in Guam where he served as Staff Sergeant and Radiology Specialist. In 1955 Willis enrolled at the College of Idaho from which he graduated in 1959 with a degree in zoology. He began medical school at St. Louis University in 1959 and graduated in 1963, the year of the birth of their first child, Lisa, at the Saint Louis University Hospital, Fermin Desloge. In June of 1963, the trio moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Willis would serve his internship and complete his radiology residency. Willis graduated from medical school in 1967, the year their second child, Rhett, was born.
After living briefly in Nampa, the family took up residence in Ontario where Willis began work at Holy Rosary Hospital as its first full-time radiologist in July of that year. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1996. He worked six days a week solo in that position until he took an associate, Dr. Kirk Hayes in 1982. For many years he worked in Weiser one day a week and Nyssa one afternoon a week reading and interpreting X-rays, he also sometimes worked in Council. Over his nearly three decades at Holy Rosary he witnessed and mastered many innovations in imaging technology, helped countless patients and served as friend and mentor to many staff members who expressed their thanks for his patience and guidance throughout the years. He was a good and fair person who eschewed hierarchies. The X-ray techs who worked with him regarded him as a “real” person who was never difficult or “above” the rest of the team.
Willis was devoted to his family that was his pride and joy. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and was actively invested in his children’s and grandchildren’s futures devising educational games and art projects to work on together. He was a life-long learner and transmitted that kind of curiosity to his children. He was an accomplished photographer and left a legacy of thousands of photographs, slides, home movies and videos chronicling over seventy years of special events and everyday activities. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing with his children and grandchildren and at Tipton family reunions. Willis loved a good joke and telling his own homemade ones. He also enjoyed gardening, lawn care, and working in his shop, making frames for many of his photographs among other things. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic church.
He is survived by Alice, his loving wife of 72 years, his daughter Dr. Lisa (Enrike) Corcostegui; his son Dr. Rhett (Maria Barinaga) Tipton and their children Angela (Ethan) Sabala, Elena (Josiah) Radcliffe, Garrett and his fiancée Alisha Rogers, and Daniella Tipton; brother Melvin Dean Tipton of Grants Pass; nephew Tobin Tipton; niece Lori (Gregory) Heck; nieces Inez (Elias) Jaca, Marilyn Jacobson, and Margene (Richard) Eiguren; numerous great nephews and nieces; and cousin Jerry (Jan) Condit.
He is preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, many cousins and brothers and sisters-in-law Charlotte (Frank) Gibson, Richard (Benita) Gabica, Louise (Don) Storey, niece Dianne Richards, and nephew Lyle Jacobson, and great-nephew Jay Hall.
Willis was a true survivor. He battled four different serious cancers and beat them all. His tenacity was admirable and fueled by his devotion and love for his family. He will be missed more than words can express.
His family would like to thank Heart and Home Hospice for their compassionate care and especially Paula, Trina, Amanda, Janela, Anita and Chaplain Page; long-time aide Jessica, and Doctors Mark Christenson and Paul Gering. A special thank you to Dr. Kirk Hayes, Father Joseph Thomas and to Father Rob Irwin.
A Rosary at 10:30am will precede the funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Friday, February 9th at 11:00am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ontario with a lunch to follow at the Kirkpatrick Center. Burial will follow Sturday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Nampa.

After Norm’s death, Margaret decided it was time to travel. And travel she did. She made numerous new friends and travel buddies in her trips to all corners of the US, Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. For many years she traveled with a group to Ashland, Oregon to see plays. After being satisfied with enough travel, she continued to concentrate on her garden, and being a part of her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren’s lives. On July 28th, 2018, she married her final companion, Ralph Cammack, and spent the next 4 years at home until his passing in November 2022.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl Rosti and Jim Rosti, husbands Norman Taylor and Ralph Cammack, and grandson Spencer Taylor.
Margaret is survived by her children, Michael (Jeri), Carolyn Wikegard (Herje), Gary (Elaine), grandchildren Jeanette (Jason), Brett (Megan), Annsofie (Todd), Marcus, Haliegh, Destiny, and great grandchildren Madison, Mason, and Aurora, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for the joy, enthusiasm, and zest for life that she shared; her boundless love of family and friends, and her eagerness to help others.
On February 6th, 2024, a private interment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery at 10:30 am.
At 11:30am, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Ontario Community Church, 240 SE 3rd Street, Ontario, Oregon 97914. Following at 12:30 will be a lunch at the church.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Iwasa for his many years of friendship, special and generous care given by Dr. Dan and his staff, and Benny Seiders and his crew for keeping Mom’s yard looking beautiful. We also want to thank Edgewood Assisted Living staff including the special care by Jeanie and the All Care Hospice team.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a donation in remembrance to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
