Rafaela V Moreno - October 24, 1942 - February 04, 2023

Departed: 02/04/2023 (Nyssa)
Obituary Preview: Rafaela Vega Moreno was born on October 24, 1942 in Nogales, Sonora. She was the eldest and even at a young age she was a natural caregiver, helping to raise her siblings. After meeting Carlos in Mexico, they settled there and grew their family. Later, they moved to Oregon and laid down roots.
Rafaela enjoyed being creative and displayed her talents in cooking and baking. Her grandchildren tell stories of the delicious aromas that always filled her home. Some of the classics were peanut brittle, cookies and of course her famous flour tortillas. She also enjoyed cross-stitch and embroidery.
She took her talents into her everyday life and worked as a cook in a number of local hospitals and care facilities. One of her greatest joys was sharing her cooking with others. Her other great joy was her family! She loved to be with her kids but her grandkids and great grandkids were truly her heart. Her face would light up when they ran in the house yelling “Abuela!” To say she left a legacy is an understatement in the number of lives she has touched.
She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on February 4, 2023. She had recently celebrated her 80th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Moreno; infant son, Guillermo; younger sister, Naomi; and nephew, Manuel Rosas Moreno. She is survived by her children Dan and Tina Moreno, George and Irma Moreno, Dolores and Pastor Ramos, Angie and Rick Olvera, Anna and Jose Diaz, and Theresa and David Clark. As well as dozens of grandkids and great grandkids.

Steven D. Eavenson - August 25, 1958 - December 11, 2022

Departed: 12/11/2022 (Nyssa)
Obituary Preview: Steven Duane Eavenson of Nyssa, Oregon passed away at home on December 11th, 2022. Steven was born in 1958 to Ralph Duane and Norma (Hurley) Eavenson and was raised mostly in Parma, Idaho where he graduated from high school. Steven then joined the Army, though was not physically able to complete his MOS training. He traveled around the west, often playing his guitar with different bands in the Reno area, and then spent a couple of years working in western Montana.
Steve finally returned to Parma in 1990 and met his future wife, Mary Ann Chadwick. Steve and Mary Ann hit it off right away and married in September 1991. They settled into married life near Nyssa in a small farmhouse that had been in Mary Ann's family for generations. Steve worked for area farmers and drove trucks for a moving company for several years.
Early in 1997 Steve and Mary Ann met the baby who was destined to be their son. He came into their home when he was just a few months old and the whole extended family celebrated when Scotlyns adoption was finalized in 2001. Steve and Mary Ann spent many of their proudest moments supporting Scotlyn's school achievements both in the Nyssa schools and Adrian High School.
Steve was active in the Lions Club and was quite involved in his church. Though his military service was cut short Steve did what he could to support veterans' organizations and events. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with friends and family. Steven also enjoyed attending the Chadwick family reunions, frequently missing the Eavenson reunions to spend time with Mary Ann's family. Steve loved his pets and always had a dog and several cats around the house.
A misdiagnosis and mistaken treatment resulted in Steven's kidneys failing. He spent many years on dialysis and finally received a kidney transplant in 2014. Mary Ann was a faithful caregiver through all those years despite struggling with unexplained tumors herself. In recent months Mary Ann developed melanoma and Steven struggled with the caretaker role. Unable to take adequate care of them both Steve missed doses of his anti-rejection meds which shortened his life. Steve went on hospice but did not linger.
He went home to Jesus, knowing it would not be long before his wife joined him. Over the years Steve was active in the Church of the Nazarene in Nyssa, Parma, and Weiser, Idaho. Steve would like to be remembered for his love of God, family, music, and telling jokes. Preceding Steven in death were his grandparents and parents.

John Russell Holliday - Unknown - October 27, 2021

Departed: 10/27/2021 (Nyssa)
Obituary Preview: John Russell Holliday was born August 13th,1940, in Dayton, Ohio. After 81 years on this earth he joined his parents, Russell and Clarys (Sutton) Holliday, in heaven on October 27, 2021. His body was tired but not a victim of Covid.
John was a jokester who loved the Lord with all his heart. He echoed this love to everyone and made each feel special. He excelled in athletics throughout his youth; playing hockey and football until he graduated high school in Michigan in 1958. He then enlisted in the Army where he continued his football career until he was honorably discharged in 1962. He completed his degree for Cooling & Refrigeration from Ferris State in 1966. The adventure didn’t stop there – it was, in fact, just beginning. One day as he was stuck in a traffic jam in Detroit, he looked up at the Marlboro man billboard and became inspired to be a cowboy. He went home, packed up his family and headed West, eventually landing in Ontario, Oregon. He attended Treasure Valley Community College and majored in Agriculture. He later met and married his wife Janice in April of 1975. A husband, provider and TV hog of 46 years, Janice will miss his laugh but enjoy discovering there are more channels than ESPN.
His older sister Judy (Holliday) Chervenak is left with the memories of her ornery little brother and the laughs and love they shared. His siblings-in-law, Dennis and Diane McCrady, Connie and Don Bullard, Frank and Cheryl McCrady, Mike McCrady, Myron and Leila McCrady, as well as many nieces and nephews will cherish the good times shared. He loved his three children and adored his seven grandchildren beyond measure. His daughter Stacy (Fenton), husband Mark and their children Tyler and Abbey; son Scott, wife RoseAnna and their children Christian and Kevin; his son Jodi, wife Teri and their children Lacy, Mitch and Gabby, will all find peace in their memories of the headstrong yet loving man they called Dad, Grandpa and Papa. His hugs will be felt and laughter will be forever heard as his legacy is passed on through an argument over Boise State games yet to come.
John enjoyed athletics in all forms, whether he himself was playing, spectating his children and grandchildren, or watching on the television. He was always smiling and happy to help anyone who showed need. He found a day on the green or watching a game on the screen both refreshing - just don’t forget the beer. A dedicated ranch/farm hand, he worked for several families in the Harper, Westfall, Vale and Nyssa area until his body begged him to stop. He, of course, didn’t stop completely and went to work for the Farmers Supply Co-Op in Vale until he finally retired (or maybe he was asked to please stop working….) He refused to let his Co-Op family go and continually brought maple bars every Wednesday until he couldn’t. John was a great man who was truly enjoyed by everyone he encountered.
He will be missed by many but forgotten by none. Cheers, Papa.

Obituary Preview: Nova Dennis “Denny” Fowler of Parma, was born April 5, 1932 and peacefully passed into his eternal home surrounded by his loving family October 23, 2021 due to complications from a recent heart attack. Dad had 89 ½ years between the “dash“and lived it fully!
Denny was born to Nova F and Inez Pearl Fowler in Cincinnati Iowa. He attended schools in Cincinnati and Centerville Iowa.
In 1951 Denny married Florene Efaw and to that marriage, Melissa Jane and Denise Elaine were born. Denny and Florence were later divorced.
In 1958, Denny traveled to Oregon to work on the Hells Canyon dam project as an equipment operator. When arriving in Halfway, Oregon he went into a small café where he met his future bride, Sharon Gover. They were married August 2, 1958.

In 1968 they moved the family to Nyssa, Oregon where he opened up a Shell Station (where the current M & W Express is) and later started D & J Enterprises in 1971 (an excavation and trucking business). He spent many, many years contracting to Amalgamated Sugar Company (hauling mud, beet pulp, beet tailings, lime rock, sugar and oversized loads all across the US), Even though Dad didn’t’t finish high school, he had a great business mind, worked tirelessly, and built a very successful business! Dad was well known for his custom painted Peterbilt ‘Sugar Daddy’ truck. They retired and sold the business to Bruce in 2000.
Upon their retirement, they made many wonderful memories traveling in the RV to all the lower 48 states and three trips to Alaska where Dad loved to fish on the Kenai River. Annual trips to Wallowa Lake were a highlight of all summers from 1972 through 2012, until Dad’s health wouldn’t allow for travel there. Crabbing on the Oregon Coast and cat fishing in the Snake River were also some of his favorite activities. Dad also enjoyed watching the grandkids in their various sport and rodeo activities. Every time they’d leave on another trip, Dad would sing “On the Road Again’! The family would love for you to share your memories of Denny with us via an open mic at the service, or a box will be available for a written memory if you would like to leave one.

Glenn M. Walker - Unknown - July 21, 2021

Departed: 07/21/2021 (Nyssa)
Obituary Preview: Glenn Millard Walker was born on September 25, 1940 to Don and June Walker. He had three brothers, Don, Frank, and David. They moved several times in their youth, spending time in Idaho Falls, West Yellowstone, and Inglewood, California until an earthquake scared them to Nyssa, Oregon.
Glenn graduated from the infamous class of ‘58. He ran track and field, which was his favorite sport. His favorite was the 4x100, which he ran with his brothers, everyone wanted to beat the Walker brothers. Glenn attended Boise Junior College and ran track for the legendary Ray Lewis, who was one of the most influential men in his life. Coach Lewis helped Glenn get a scholarship at Central Washington in Ellensburg WA, where Glenn flourished and earned the nickname “Scooter” because he was so fast. In 1964 he had a qualifying time for the 100 yard dash for the Olympic trials. At Central, Glenn joined the fraternity Elwood Manor, where he met some of his greatest friends. Growing up we were entertained by numerous stories of Elwood Manor.
In August of 1966 Glenn married Sally Holmes. They had three children, Jeff, Nikki, and Casey. Glenn was a PE and Health teacher at Nyssa; he also coached football, wrestling, and track. Glenn was a player’s coach who would stay later after practice so his athletes could get extra reps at the pole vault. There were times he had to shovel snow off the track so kids could get an early start. There was nothing he loved more than coaching, he had a gift of seeing kid’s hidden talents.
Glenn decided to become an Administrator after teaching for several years. He received his Masters from Brigham Young University. The Walker family moved around the state of Oregon. Glenn’s first job was a Superintendent at Dayville, next came the Dean of Students at Fremont Middle School in Roseburg, then Principal at Stanfield High School, and Principal of Lakeview. In 1989 Glenn came home to Nyssa and retired as the Principal of Nyssa High School. After retiring he decided to try teaching again, and became a PE/Health teacher at Harper School. He ended his career doing what he loved most, teaching kids.
Glenn had several hobbies: he loved photography and won several blue ribbons at the Malheur County Fair. He always had a book nearby and was known for reading an entire series from start to finish. Glenn loved watching movies, his favorite was Shane, he watched it every time it was on TV. He saw Spiderman with Chase in the theatre six times. Glenn’s favorite Saturday activity was watching sports, he loved college football, Indy-car races, the NFL, and Yankees baseball.
Glenn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. He had a strong testimony of the restored gospel. He served in several church positions but his favorite was serving at the Ontario prison. He truly loved those inmates, who would call and visit him when they were released. He was never judgmental with them and showed them genuine love.
Glenn is survived by his son Jeff, his daughter Nikki her husband Chad and their four kids Cayla, Ally, Payton, and Gus, his son Casey, his wife Krissy and their four kids, Olivia Chase, Laynee, and Jesse and one special Great Granddaughter Bea. Glenn loved his grandchildren more than anything. He spent hours driving to all of their sports activities. If you ask the grandkids, they would say they had the coolest Grandpa around. Nothing meant more to Glenn than family. When Sally passed, he visited her grave almost daily for many years. Sometimes during the winter someone would shovel a path so he could get to her gravesite. After an eight year separation, our Mom and Dad are together again. The family wishes to thank all of my Dad’s friends who helped him during the last eight years of his life, as well as the great doctors: Kido and Lovelace, Page, Elam, Nowierski, the pharmacists at M&W, and others. Finally, and most importantly, the family wishes to thank Nurse Bekka and the other nurses at Saint Luke’s Telemetry in Meridian, who personally oversaw his final moments. They are proof that angels walk the earth. Condolences to the family at www.lienkaemper/thomason.com
