Joanne C Corcoran - Unknown - June 21, 2020

Departed: 06/21/2020 (Florham Park)
Obituary Preview: Joanne C. Corcoran, 78, of Convent Station, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2020. While Joanne worked many years as a Banker for Mid-Atlantic National Bank in South Orange, she had many passions outside of work that sustained her.  She loved traveling to Bermuda each year, truly enjoying the laughter and wonderful times she had there with family and friends.  Joanne was an avid reader.  She devoured romance novels. Whether it was M.C. Beaton Hamish Macbeth mystery or a Harry Potter tale or a narrative on British Royalty she was always eager to join the journey. Those who knew her best knew of Joanne’s love and support for what she called “the NJ Jets”. She would regret having not lived to see her team “finally” win another Superbowl.  But above all else Joanne loved her family most.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  Joanne often said, “when the lord calls me home it will not come a minute too soon”.  Comfort can be taken by those who loved her in knowing she is reunited with her husband, Martin, whom she has missed all these many years.  As a proud Catholic and woman of deep faith, she took great comfort in the kindness of others and a peace she found in her nightly prayers with the blessed mother.  Joanne is not gone but rather has gone on.  We will see her again.
Joanne is survived by her children Chris Corcoran, David Corcoran, his wife Ellen, Donna Tallia and her husband Ed.  A loving grandmother to Hannah, Margaret, John, Katie and Kevin.  Dear sister of Eugene Altieri and Ann Scallia.  She is pre-deceased by her husband Martin T. Corcoran and her parents Albert & Marie Altieri.
Funeral services held privately.
Donations can be made in Joanne’s name to your favorite charity.

Jeanette T Besen - Unknown - May 10, 2020

Departed: 05/10/2020 (Florham Park)
Obituary Preview: Jeanette T. (Lynch) Besen, 94, of Florham Park, NJ, formerly of Carle Place, NY, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2020.
Born in The Bronx, NY, Jeanette was also known as Jean, Aunt Jean, Nana, Mom, or Ma. She lived a full life and raised three children with her husband, Martin. She returned to work in her 40’s as a banker in Manhattan, then enjoyed traveling in retirement with her husband. She loved being at the ocean by the water listening to the waves. Jeanette’s greatest joy in life was having her family all together. And if there happened to be an occasional martini or Asti Spumante served, so much the better! As she grew older, she never lost her love for reading, board games, cards, Scrabble, bingo, Rummikub, word games, and crossword puzzles.
While strong in opinion, she was careful in expressing it — “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” A quiet, patient listener, she rarely judged during the process. She was fiercely independent and lived alone until the age of 93. She worked hard in everything she did and did it without much fanfare. Jeanette was a kind, loving, and very generous person to all.
Jeanette was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Martin R. Besen, her granddaughter, Kelly Jeanne O’Day, and nine siblings. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Richardson; her children Dan and Kim Besen, Deborah and Michael O’Day, Barbara and John Bartolomeo; her grandchildren Katie and Steve Dantonello, Colleen O’Day, Danielle Jeanette Besen, Victoria, John, and Joseph Bartolomeo; great-grandchildren Ava and Nolan Dantonello; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held at a future date.
Donations in memory of Jeanette can be made to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.

Lorraine was born and raised in Newark, NJ.  She graduated from West Side High School and then moved to the Vailsburg section of Newark in 1958 when she married. She raised her children in Vailsburg before moving to Florham Park 43 years ago.  Some of Lor’s fondest memories are of her childhood on South 6th Street in Newark and the many friends and relatives who gathered in her house all those years.  Lorraine was an only child who often commented that she never felt like she was an only child because of the many friends and relatives who enriched her life.

Lorraine was an inspiration to all who knew her.  Despite being widowed young, Lor moved forward with life to continue to nurture a loving environment for her children.  She loved Frank Sinatra, shopping-especially for shoes, ice cream, the Jersey Shore; especially the beach and mini-golf where at 92 could still score a couple holes in one. She also loved all animals with her favorites being dogs, elephants, dolphins and cardinals.  Hobbies included watching continuous episodes of Law and Order, reading and traveling with her trip to Italy being one of the highlights of her life. Lor cherished dining out and car rides with her son. Most of all, she just loved spending quality time with her children and extended family and friends. Lorraine was a smart, sweet, strong, caring person who found the good in everyone. As a close relative so eloquently put it “She was a very easy person to be around”. Our Mom was simply awesome and the best mother you could ask for.! We will miss her immensely.

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their surviving family members, funeral arrangements, and any notable achievements or accomplishments.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a permanent record of a person's life and legacy.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also assist with writing and publishing obituaries.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorial donations, and any other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's wishes. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs.

Can I include photos or other multimedia in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and some print publications allow you to include photos, videos, or audio clips to enhance the tribute.

Are obituaries only published in newspapers?

No, while traditional print newspapers were once the primary medium for publishing obituaries, today they can be found online on various websites, social media platforms, and funeral home websites.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication, word count, and any additional features such as photos or online links. Some online platforms offer free or low-cost options.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they want to be remembered and to spare their loved ones from having to do so during a difficult time.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
