Obituary Preview: Gloria Olynick 93 of Charleroi, passed away on Thursday Septemeber 2, 2021 at Rolling Meadows, Waynesburg. Born in North Charleroi on June 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schwer. Gloria was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church Charleroi and was retired from the former Millers Store in Charleroi.
Gloria is survived by her caregivers and close friends; Mark and Betty Mazanetz of Charleroi, Sarah (Dennis) Bussell of OH, Susan Mazanetz of Charleroi and Carol Stotka of Bentelyville. She is preceded in death by her husband John Olynick and her brother Charles Schwer.
Visitation will be held on Thursday September 9th from 9:00am til 9:30am at Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle Church Charleroi site. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Nathan Matthew Paydo - May 31, 1979 - June 12, 2021

Obituary Preview: Nathan Matthew Paydo, 42, of Monongahela was called home to the Lord on June12, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.  He passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Born on May 31, 1979, he was a graduate of Ringgold High School and served the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 251 for more than 20 years. Nathan was a coffee connoisseur and film fanatic, especially horror movies. He enjoyed mountain biking, fishing, gaming, holidays, ice cream cakes,a fine bourbon, and heavy metal music. He was quiet and generous; hilarious and brave. And, he will be missed beyond measure.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Charles and Barbara Paydo of Monongahela; a sister and brother-in-law, Emily and William Pope of Mt. Lebanon; aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the care teams from AHN/Jefferson and Amedisys Hospice for their tireless efforts, care, and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

David worked as a deck hand on several coal carriers and was an avid fisherman.
Besides his mother, he is also survived by his 2 sons; John Stablein of California, PA and Jake Stablein of Monongahela, a daughter Mackenzie Stablein of Canonsburg, 3 brothers; George (Deborah) Stablein of Monongahela, Mark (Kay) Stablein of Columbus, IN, and Michael (Tina) Stablein of Whittset, a sister Teresa (Tom) Perry of Rostraver Twp., his girlfriend Gina Basel of Belle Vernon and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 21, 2021 from 3pm-6pm at the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi where services will begin at 6pm with Rev. Reagan Fike Rager officiating.
Interment will be private.

Obituary Preview: Debra L. Susick, 67, of Charleroi passed away on Wednesday April, 21 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born November 8, 1953 to the late Stephen and Dorothy Harford Novak. A graduate of Bentworth High School, class of 1971. She married John Susick on December 20, 2013.  She retired from Eastman Chemical as a utility worker. Debra's favorite hobby was enjoying her precious time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert Parola of Charleroi; step-daughter Jackie (George) Saula of Irwin; granddaughter Kaitlyn and many family and friends.
At the request of the deceased, there will not be any public services, and Debra will be entombed at Mon Valley Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc., Charleroi.

Obituary Preview: Margaret [Powlowsky] Valdiserri, formerly of Fallowfield Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at Manor Care Bethel Park, PA.  Marge and her husband Lou were owners of the former Valdiserri Bakery in Bentleyville.
She was born January 15, 1932, the daughter of the late Michael and Petronella [Shamitis] Powlowsky.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Valdiserri, five brothers, Valentine, Victor, Albert, John and Thomas Powlowsky, two nephews Eugene and Kenneth Powlowsky and two nieces, Nancy Matz and Betty Jo Rhea.
She will be cherished in memory by nieces and nephews, Deanne Powlowsky, Richard Powlowsky, Terry Frederick, Lani  D'Alfonso, Jay Paul, Linda Sturdivant, sister-in-law Margaret [Stunda] Powlowsky and several great nieces and nephews.
Marge will be remembered by family and friends for her kindness and generosity, her love of animals and the "sunshine" baskets she made for family and friends when they were recovering from illness, as well as many happy memories spent at the bakery shop.
Visitation will be held on Monday April 5 from 8:30am-9:30am at the Leonard M. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband James Visco who passed in 1994.

She was a  1967 graduate of Charleroi Area High School. Jean was a kind person that would do anything for her family and friends.
She is survived by her son Joseph M. (Robin) McKito of Canonsburg, a daughter Janet (David) Anderson of Donora and 3 grandchildren; Jared Anderson, Logan McKito and Adelina McKito. Besides her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother Frank R. Erbe.
Due to current restrictions, the family held a private blessing service on Wednesday January 6th  at the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi and interment followed at Monongahela Cemetery. The family requests that memorials in Jean’s name be made to any local mental health organization.

Philip R. Bongiorno - November 02, 1932 - December 10, 2020

Obituary Preview: Philip R Bongiorno peacefully passed away to join his loving wife Wanda on December 10, 2020. Philip was a proud Naval Chief Petty officer serving his country for over 25 years. He was employed by US Steel as a supervisor. In his retirement, Phil and his wife Wanda were active members in the Charleroi Elks where he served as Exalted Ruler for 3 years. He was a member of the Italian Club, Knights of Columbus and the USS Laffey Association. Phil and Wanda were well- known antique dealers traveling throughout country. Phil was an avid golfer and loved to hunt with his brothers and grandsons.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, first wife Rose Clausi, daughter Pam,  infant daughter Paula, brothers Sam, Alfred and Jerry.  He is survived by his sister Vivian, 2 daughters Patty Zocco and Phyllis Bongiorno, and 2 step-daughters Beth Bell and Susan Thomson. Phil will be sadly missed by his family, grandchildren Brandon, (Kimberly) Bongiorno, Kayla Bongiorno, Destinee Bongiorno, Nicholas,( Ashley), Zocco, Matthew Zocco,  Brian and William Thomson and great grandchildren Chase Forbes, ( Destinee),Stella Zocco, ( Nicholas Ashley). He  was so proud of all their accomplishments and cherished their visits.
Philip is now at peace, as he struggled following the passing of his wife in April. In honor of Philip’s final wishes, a memorial service with his wife will be held once our COVID crises allows. There will be a private military ceremony to be announced and is being arranged by grandson Brandon.  A special thank- you for the wonderful care he received from Cathy Bongiorno and the Residence at Hilltop staff. As he requested, donations for his memory may be sent to the Wounded Warriors or charity of your choice.

Besides his parents he is also survived by his step-mother Patricia Sezawich of Stockdale, his step-father Steve Daily of Florida, a brother Joshua Sezawich of Florida, a niece Savannah Sezawich of Florida, maternal grandmother Cleo Gales of Charleroi, paternal aunts and uncles; Matthew and Rebecca Sezawich, Madeline Rice, Christine Dankle, Ruth Matz, George and Michelle Toohey, Mary Murphy, John and Lisa Toohey, Michael and Sandy Toohey, Kathleen and William Smith and Paul and Jeanne Toohey, maternal aunts Denise Miller and Dorsey Gales.
Preceded in death by paternal grandparents; Matthew and Dorothy Sezawich and maternal grandfather Joseph “Fireball” Gales, maternal uncle Joseph Gale, Mary Toohey and numerous cousins.
A special thank you to everyone at the Donnell Hospice facility for all their love and care and a very special thank you to Pastor Dave Lettrich and Bill’s friends and family in Pittsburgh.

Michele is preceded in death by her aunt Renee Chalfant.
Visitation will be held on Sunday September 20 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi where funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday September 21 with Pastor Robert Prinkey. Interment will follow at Belle Vernon Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: James W. “Jimmy” Jackson, 72 of Charleroi died Friday May 8, 2020 at his home. He was born in Pricedale on February 28, 1948 a son of James Coleman and Mable Bowman.
Jimmy was retired from the former Corning Glass in Charleroi and was a member of the Corning Retirees. He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the US Army. He served as a scout for his infantry and was distinguished as a marksman and sharp shooter.
Jimmy is survived by a sister Betty Lawson of Pricedale, 2 daughters Alaisha Williams of Los Angeles, CA, Ria Johnson of Monessen, a son Corey Johnson of Charleroi, 2 stepdaughters; Nadia Sullivan of Columbus, OH, and Michelle Johnson of Monessen, his Godson Vondre Smith of Aliquippa, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by 5 nephews Thomas Craigway, David Craigway, Kenny Pone, Jimmy Lawson and Henry Lawson Jr., his cousin who was like a brother Robert Stewart and his wife Sandra, his close friend Carol Arnold and a host of great nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 aunts; Maise Newbill and Martha Stewart. “Pappy” will be deeply missed.
Interment will military honors will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements were entrusted to the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi.

Wanda Bongiorno - March 03, 1927 - April 16, 2020

Obituary Preview: Wanda Bongiorno passed away peacefully on April 16, 2020. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved antiques, cooking, and most of all her husband Philip. She is survived by her husband Philip, loving and wonderful caregiver CathyBongiorno, daughters Susan (John) Thomson, Beth (partner Rick), step daughters Patty and Phyllis. Wanda is survived by 2 siblings, John and Irene.   She had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who she adored. She was preceded in death by her first husband Melvin Bell.
When you remember me, it means you have carried something of who I am with you, that I have left some kind of mark of who I am on who you are.
It means you can summon me back to your mind even though countless years and miles stand between us.
It means that if we meet again, you will know me.
It means that even after I die, you can still see my face and hear my voice and speak to me in your heart. (Frederich Buechner).

Carol A. Claybaugh - July 11, 1943 - January 25, 2020

Obituary Preview: Carol Claybaugh,76 of Fallowfield Township, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday January 25, 2020 in Allegheny General Hospital while surrounded by her family.  She was the daughter of the late Mary and Michael Sematic.
Carol is survived by her husband Gerald F. Claybaugh, Jr, her sons Brendan (wife Tracy), Brodie (wife Becky), and her grandchildren Brenna, Braedan, Benjamin, Logan, and Royce.  In addition, Carol is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Gloria and John Gombala and her sister-in-law Geraldine Yowonske.
Carol was a graduate of Charleroi High School. As a Charleroi High School Cougar Marching Band alumna, she was the featured Twirler and Drum Major.  While marching and twirling with pride,one of her most memorable events was leading the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City in 1960.  In 1962, Carol twirled for the Pittsburgh Steelers cheer leading squad, The Steelerettes, as the Steeler Strutter. She was founding member of the Mon Valley Super Stars (Candy Stripers) baton twirling group of Charleroi in 1962.  The Super Star students marched and twirled in parades, festivals, shows, and competitions for 57 years.  Carol was an instructor and sponsor of the Charleroi Area High School Majorette, Color Guard, and Cougarette teams of the Cougar marching band for almost three decades.  She was also a National Baton Twirling Association Judge.  Carol loved teaching and twirling baton which she most often called her art form.  Most importantly, she loved all of her students and all the great times they had together.
Carol was the Vice President of the Charleroi Area School District Education Foundation Board. Membership and affiliations include Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce-Team Charleroi Promotions and, Blast From the Past show committees, Charleroi American Legion Post 22 Ladies Auxiliary and Mary Mother of the Church Charleroi. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes Inc., 235 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, PA 724-489-9551, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  on Friday January 31, at 10 a.m. at the Charleroi Campus of St. Andrew the Apostle Church. Shirley May Rodgers - March 12, 1927 - November 12, 2019

Obituary Preview: Shirley May (Adams) Rodgers was born on March 12, 1927 and passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019 in Charleroi.
Shirley was the daughter of Edward and Lillian Denike Adams. She was born at home in Detroit, MI and the family relocated back to Ontario, Canada in 1939.
At the age of 12, she worked in her father’s Hamilton, Ontario drugstore serving customers at the soda fountain and delivering prescriptions on her bicycle. A few years later, she started a new job at a candy store called The Sugar Bowl, where she made chocolates and served lunches. At age 16, she worked in the lab at the Westinghouse Plant, mixing the powder that went inside neon lights. Shirley enrolled in nursing school in 1946 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital Training School for Nurses. That year, in the very same drugstore where she first worked, she also met her beloved husband Leroy. They met in Canada while he was on leave from the U.S. Army and they were married on September 16, 1950.
Shirley spent most of her nursing career as a medical-surgical nurse at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. She also worked as a plant occupational health nurse at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel prior to retiring. She was a long-time member of the Mon Valley Nurses Association.
Throughout Shirley and Leroy’s 60 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling with the Charleroi Elk’s Club Lodge #494 for Ritual Competitions & participated in the local senior mixed bowling league in Bentleyville. Early on in their romance they loved to jitterbug and go to the roller-skating rink. Shirley’s life was full of many fascinating experiences & wonderful achievements, but the greatest source of pride and joy for her was making a good life for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Shirley was loved by many and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Shirley was the cherished mother(mother-in-law) of Linda (Dennis), Michael (John), Deborah (Allan), Janet (Larry);Grandma to Heather (Liz), Erin (John), Paul (Elly), Sean (Alex), Keyton (Becky), and Kierra (Zach); and Great Grandma to Rowan and Adam. She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy (2010) and son Paul (1974)
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17 from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm at Leonard M.Pavlic Funeral Homes Inc. 235 Fallowfield Ave, Charleroi, where funeral services will be held on Monday November 18 at 10:00am with Rev. Bob Hanna officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Twp.

After graduating from W&J, he completed a 43-year career, pioneering modern nuclear power plant startup/shutdown chemistry. He traveled to South America, Asia, and over 30 trips to Europe, including visiting family in Croatia and Slovakia, eventually leading him to meet his wife. He always practiced his Roman Catholic faith, especially as a lector at Mary, Mother of the Church, and was generous with his time and talents. Dad was passionate about his hobbies including competitive field trials with his beloved English Setters, playing tennis, coaching baseball, writing published articles, planting orchards, as well as gardening, Twilight Borough council, photography, classical music, and many others. Above all, he was a caring father, husband, and provider for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Zorica Jarnjevic; daughter, Dr. Karen Kormuth, Ph.D.; his sister, Mary (Gary) Echard; and many loving family around the world, as well as his son and daughter, Michael Kormuth and Jennifer Gallingane, and 5 grandchildren.
There will be no public visitation. All are asked to gather on Tuesday June 18, 2019 at 10:00am to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at Mary, Mother of the Church Charleroi with Rev. Kevin Dominik officiating. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery Charleroi.
