Margaret Veronica Phillips - September 19, 1920 - December 09, 2023

Departed: 12/09/2023 (No. Richmond Hill)
Obituary Preview: After a remarkable 103 years of life, Margaret Veronica Phillips passed away on December 9, 2023. She leaves behind a devoted family and cherished friends who all acknowledge their incredible fortune at having been part of her life. Margaret is survived by her loving daughters Veronica (Alan) and Margaret (Scott), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William, her siblings Josephine
and George, her son William, and her daughter Gwendolyn.
Born in 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, Margaret was the second of three children. Raised on 118th Street in Richmond Hill, she often recounted tales of playing with her siblings Josephine and George in the streets, trailing the
paddy wagons to the 102 precinct, and petting the police horses. Growing up during the Great Depression deeply influenced Margaret, instilling in her a profound sense of gratitude and a commitment to the welfare of others. She shouldered immense responsibility from a young age, caring not only for her parents and siblings but also engaging in advocacy and humanitarian work with the United China Relief. This experience taught her the values of diplomacy, patience, confidence, and determination. It was also where she honed her skills in preparing outstanding Chinese cuisine, developed an appreciation for Chinese
calligraphy, and met Charles William Phillips. Margaret and Charles exchanged vows in 1943 at Holy Child Jesus Church in Richmond Hill. Together, they welcomed four children—William, Veronica, Gwendolyn, and Margaret. Despite her role as a mother, Margaret remained devoted to serving her community. Alongside raising her own family, she devoted time to aiding those in need, visiting and caring for the sick, volunteering at the Holy Child Jesus Church's Thrift Store, and looking after her parents and in-laws. Margaret led by example,
instilling in each of her children the values of responsibility and service. These values shaped their careers and passions, leading them to fields such as education, nursing, military service, social justice reform, religious
counseling, and advocacy. Beyond her selflessness and nurturing spirit, Margaret possessed a quiet strength and unassuming intelligence that endeared her to many. Her innate understanding of people left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Most notably, Margaret exuded quiet confidence, never
seeking recognition or acknowledgment for her good deeds. Her devoted family will forever carry her legacy of kindness, goodwill, and dedication to serving others. Margaret's enduring legacy echoes the celebration of angels at the birth of Christ: 'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men' (Luke 2:14). To Margaret, nothing was more important than fostering peace and goodwill among her fellow
human beings. In Lieu of Flowers the Family of Margaret Veronica Phillips kindly asks for donations to the Northshore Animal League

Born with a passion for movies and theater, he pursued his undergraduate studies at SUNY New Paltz and later earned his Master's degree in theater from Brooklyn College.
Ed's journey through life saw him engage in a variety of trades, from sprout delivery to working with the MTA. However, it was in the realm of high school theater in Mount Vernon, NY, where he truly found his calling. Ed thrived in his element, orchestrating shows and leaving a lasting impact on the students he taught.
Above all, Ed cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife Terry and their three children, Galyn, Fiona, and Aidan, and daughter-in-law Viktoriya. Departed: 07/01/2023 (No. Richmond Hill)
Obituary Preview: On November 29, 1934, Anne Marie was born to Thomas and Anna Flanagan at Jamaica Hospital. Anne Marie was the middle of three children, Thomas was her older brother, and Katherine was her younger sister. When the children were young, their mother passed away unexpectedly. The siblings were raised by their father with the help of their beloved Aunt Marie and Uncle Randall in Richmond Hill,
where they attended Holy Child Jesus School. Anne Marie went to Dominican Commercial High School and then attended evening classes at St. John’s University while working at IBM. Anne Marie’s husband, John McGrath, was an attorney. They met at a dance and were married on January 10, 1965. Anne Marie and John bought their house on 113 th Street in 1968, where they raised their five children, Katherine (Joe), John Paul (Laura), Anne Margaret (Andy), William, and Susan (Lionel). Anne Marie and John’s nephew, Timmy (Eileen), was like their kids’ sixth sibling. 113 th Street was a big playground for all the neighbors, especially the Morris, Brady, and O’Hare
kids. Anne Marie and John sent their children to Anne Marie’s alma mater, Holy Child Jesus. With his uniquely special qualities, Willie attended special education classes during the week and Holy Child
Jesus’ Saturday program. Anne Marie’s sister Katherine also raised her family in Richmond Hill. Katherine’s children, Anne Marie, Tommy, Michael, and Timmy attended Holy Child Jesus School. Our families celebrated every holiday
and birthday together. Anne Marie’s brother Thomas and his wife Terry raised their five children, Nancy, Thomas, Susan, Moira,
and John Patrick, in Bellmore, Long Island. Anne Marie had many lifelong friendships through her volunteer work at Holy Child Jesus and during her
years at IBM and NBC. On April 23, 1990, Anne Marie’s beloved husband, John, passed away. Despite her heartbreak, she
continued to lovingly care for her children. In 1996, Anne Marie was delighted to welcome her first grandchild, Katherine, and shortly thereafter,
William, followed by John, Liam, Sarah, Joseph, Emily, and her “baby” Matthew.
Anne Marie was heartbroken when her beautiful son Willie passed away suddenly on March 5, 2016.
Prayer and her strong faith helped her through the sorrow. Anne Marie’s love for her family was immeasurable. There was never a day she did not spend time with an adoring family member. Anne Marie’s kindness, compassion, intelligence, humor, and generosity
made her loved by all who knew her. Grieve not… nor speak of me with tears… but laugh and talk of me…
as though I were beside you. I loved you so
‘twas Heaven here with you.

Muriel Sallie - May 09, 1934 - June 27, 2023

Departed: 06/27/2023 (No. Richmond Hill)
Obituary Preview: Muriel Sallie (nee McAllister) was born May 9, 1934. A Harlem native, she was the daughter of John Thomas McAllister Sr. and Mary Louise Mc Allister (nee Davenport). Muriel was the eldest of her siblings. She had 3 brothers, John Jr. (Sonny), Justin, John Jr. and Johnny. Muriel had one sister, Arlene.
Muriel began her schooling at PS 113, which was right across the street from her home. Segregation was alive and well at that time! Harlem was a separate world in which black people lived happy, harmonious lives. They loved, they lived, they danced and ate and drank themselves to sleep most nights. Muriel attended Wadleigh Junior High School, which was two blocks away from her home. She later entered Textiles High School in Lower Manhattan.
Muriel started her career at Bell Telephone Company when she was 18 years old in 1952. Her diligent work habits, clear headed decision making, calm demeanor, and loveable personality allowed her to be promoted to supervisor at a time when that was not the norm. The next phase of her career took her to Queens County Court where she worked as a stenographer for 30 years. As you can imagine, she was a favorite at the court!
Muriel was quite civic minded. She provided superb leadership as president of the Tenant’s Association at Wave Crest. She also served as president of the board at The Texas Owners Corp, the place she called home for decades. Muriel received many awards for her outstanding commitment to her community.
Muriel married Carroll W. Sallie Jr. in 1952. Three children were born to that union: John, Lisa, and David. The family spent many happy years in Hollis. Muriel especially loved hosting family events during the holidays. Her loving, calm, and caring manner was present in all she did for her family. Muriel was a grandmother to Aver II, Sharriese, Shantel, Andre and Tyrell. She also had a great granddaughter, Sophia. She was lovingly referred to as ‘Grandmaymer’. Muriel was well loved by all she encountered. She’d go out each day and ‘hold court’ with the neighbors who passed by. She even carried treats for the pets who stopped by for a visit. Muriel was an animal lover. She had many pets over the years: Butch, Lady, Bromley, Gunther, and Einstein. She loved them all!
Her neighbors were especially caring during covid, supplying her with hand sanitizer, masks, and offers to go shopping. Muriel looked out for her neighbors as well-she made yummy treats for them. She also purchased groceries for neighbors who may not have been able to get to the store.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Mc Allister Sr. and Mary McAllister, brothers Justin McAllister, John Thomas McAllister Jr., and Johnny Ponzie, Father-in-law Carroll Sallie Sr., mother-in-law, Inez Sallie, husband, Carroll Sallie Jr., brothers-in-law Richard Sallie and Newton Downing; sister-in-law Leigh Sallie; niece Yvonne Sallie and nephew Edward Staggers.
Muriel leaves many to mourn her loss: sister, Arlene Chase; sons John C. Sallie and David M. Sallie; daughter Lisa Y. Hamilton; Son-in-love Aver Hamilton Sr.; Grandsons Aver Hamilton II, Andre Hamilton, and Tyrell Brelland; Granddaughters Sharriese Y. Hamilton (Jesse Reyes) and Shantel R. Hamilton; Great Granddaughter Sophia Reyes Hamilton; brothers-in-law Alfred (Yvonne) Sallie Sr. and Anthony Sallie; sister-in- law Yvonne Downing; nephews Brian Staggers, Onzelo Markum III, Alfred Sallie Jr. and Christopher Sallie; Grandnephews John A.Thomas Jr., Charles B. Markum, Robert L. (Reese) Markum, Hayden J. Markum, Christian R. Markum; Great grand nephews Isaiah A. Hay-Thomas, Izavier A. Hay-Thomas, Mekhi A. Thomas; nieces Jennifer Sallie, Barbara E. Marquez, Andrea G. Markum-Harris (George); Grandniece Madison S. Markum, Great grand nieces Mia R. Markum and Marinn C. Markum; long time friends Anne Friend and her son Anthony Friend and Mildred Miliner-Dennis as well as a host of neighbors and friends.
