Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to share news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community members. They provide an opportunity to celebrate the person's life, share memories, and offer condolences to those who are grieving.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also assist with writing and publishing obituaries.

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for 1-2 paragraphs at most.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to find out their submission guidelines and deadlines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary?
